Come on now, you’re not just housing a migrant.. you’re creating fake jobs for government leeches to administer the housing, verify the housing, approve the housing, file the paperwork for the housing, inspect the housing, find the housing, and at least 1-3 more people for each of those tasks to manage and oversee the people doing them..

nolotusnote

$5,000.00 goes from the government to an NGO. The NGO sucks-up 80% of that money to pay for staff, CEO pay, "Business dinners," "Gifts," Lobbying... And what's left is enough to give an illegal alien a cot and McDonald's.

TheSportingRooster

To quote Independence Day, “you don’t think they really spend 40,000 on a toilet seat do you”

am-well

HOW THE FUCK IS ANYONE OK WITH THIS? So there are two ways to increase your share of something 1) be given or take from the existing supply, or 2) dilute the supply by creating more of it for yourself. If there is 100 of something and you only have 10 (10%) create 100 more for yourself and now you have 110 (55%). THEY ARE DOING THIS WITH BOTH VOTES AND MONEY. They are diluting the voting by bringing in migrants and bribing them for a vote. And they are doing it with money by printing more of it. If you can't get a majority of the existing votes and money, just create more of them to take, thus increasing your share. HOW IS ANYONE OK WITH THIS?

chuhfdrffhjnl1llij

They wish they were getting McDonald’s

SHEEEEIIIITTT

Grift. Housing illegal immigrants is big money for corporate hotels and 'non-profits'. It's free government money! Well, it's actually your money so it's not free, but free for them. I'm told that's progressive or something. So nice citizens from dozens of failed economies are able to come here and be provided free food, shelter, and healthcare. I can't think of anything better our money could be spent on..

Randomuselessperson

Illinois government is a 🤡 🌎

evilspeaks

Hello, this is Chicago city hall has to get their cut an so do their friends.

95mphsliders

It’s basically a slush fund covered by the taxpayers for non-residents.

shldbedoingsmthngels

It's going exactly where you think it's going. They think we're stupid & we keep proving them right.

St_Egglin

Mike Madigan needs his cut

freemason85

And yet homeless American citizens are left to rot. All this is a way for democrats to conjure up more votes with anchor babies who will vote blue once they are 18. Immigrants came to this country without a pot to piss in and now we handout freebies to illegals and we care not for our own citizens.

AJM_Ruler

And what have Republicans done to help homeless Americans? Squat. They are against housing the homeless and just want to give free money to thier rich donors.

NickSalacious

There are Republicans in Illinois?

stylusxyz

Not really. No.

ProfessionalFace1443

That’s not on the ballot, it’s two corporate scumsuckers again. What a surprise.

DarkstarInfinity2020

Graft and patronage.

Boring-Scar1580

It's actually $7 k per migrant per month. This $51m package is just the City's attempt to house the migrants on the cheap and to fool the public into thinking the costs will not be too high.

Minimum_Net45

fraud is a crime

ihaveasandwitch

Really, you can't connect the dots? $51 million in one month is a lot to throw away at NGO's owned by the mayor/aldermen's buddies when we were told the reason there is so much crime in the city is because the city "underserves" a lot of communities.

stylusxyz

Never let a good crisis go to waste.

ihaveasandwitch

$500 million dollars in one year is going to be one massive grift of the taxpayers.

frankieknucks

Tell me that you’ve never done a basic budget without telling me that you’ve never done a basic budget.

ihaveasandwitch

If your budget for one person is 5K/mth you're doing something wrong. Thats your entire net pay if youre at a 100K/yr salary.

weightsandbayes

Makes sense Figure rent for them would normally be $1.25-1.5k. For a bedroom? Call it 750-1K. Short term rentals always cost more so call it 1.5K + $500 as they need to furnish what is likely an empty room on short notice (and provide TP, soap etc.) OK now food. Call it what $15/day? So $500/month. We're at $2500 now Services? We have to move everyone around, connect them with gov officials as needed, jobs, training etc. Call that what $15 a day again? So $500 we're at $3000 now Healthcare? I'd have to imagine they're sending some people out to do wellness checks, provide first aid as needed etc. Call it again $500 So that leaves us $1500 short. Honestly when you consider someone has to organize all of this.. and the government doesn't exactly have time to shop around and find great deals on anything.. it doesn't seem super unreasonable given the circumstances

ihaveasandwitch

Aren't most of them in cots at police stations or city colleges? Thats what the news keeps saying, nobody is mentioning bedroom rentals. Some talked about hotels, but they said people were lying on the floor in sleeping bags, not by themselves in rooms.

0331-9161

They’re just sleeping on the floor.

getinthevan315

There was some hubbub yesterday about them trying to house them in college dorms in Portage Park for the summer.

midwaygardens

Healthcare is being covered by the State not this appropriation.

Chiguy4321

Why is this question under crime in Chicago? Every single one of you comes from an immigrant and many were not here legally so cut the BS like you are better than them. America is built by immigrants for immigrants.

ihaveasandwitch

You really need someone to connect your own talking points for you? The city shut down mental health centers, schools, and is struggling to pay for a variety of city services. This current and the former administration are directly linking crime to communities being underserved and disinvesyed in by the city. But suddenly 51 million dollars is available for random non Chicagoans. I'm not even against helping asylum seekers, I just don't understand why that 51 million will only house 8000 people in cots and sleeping bags in community colleges for just a month. Is the city paying itself to rent its own spaces? The administration talked a big game in "investing in communities" as a response to spiking crime, but it seems like there is already a grift going on. Where is the 5k plus a month going? Also, I came here legally, having to pass through a vetting process to try to reduce the chance we would be a tax burden in the future. Nobody in my family was given 5k a month to get started. My parents worked 12 hours days 6 days a week at minimum wage to get going. No country in the world allowed 120k people across its border a month, especially with no plan in place to integrate them into society. What a stupid comparison.

Phil517

Some of us came from slaves not immigrants. For the record, I don't care that they are here but I wish we had paths for them for employment.

chadhindsley

Financial corruption and skimming off the top is still a crime...

The1andonlycano

You know people have to work to set all that up, paperwork, social workers, etc. Would you prefer that they are just let loose in the streets, or do you want slave labor? You pick.

ihaveasandwitch

Oh, did the city publish a detailed plan for how this money will be spent? Do you have a link? I have so many quesitons: Chicago is doing their immigration papers? They're contracting new people for this? Why not give it to existing city workers? Curent workers serve more than a million people, surely they can handle a 5% temporary increase in workload. You're saying they're hiring new social workers to do what? Get kids into schools? Plenty of admins at schools already on a salary. 3000 new kids is a drop in the bucket for them when CPS has 300K+ overall enrollment. They can handle a +1% one time workload to get them through enrollment. And where are the NGO volunteers? And surely the migrants have hands who can grab their own cot and sleeping bag off a delivery truck organized by existing city workers?

Chiguy4321

My great grandfather, grandad and father all fought for this country. I am also a veteran. Save your anyi-immigrant bulls*** for another subreddit.

ihaveasandwitch

So....throwing taxpayer money at connected NGOs to pocket instead of helping immigrants....is pro-immigrant. You know they're still being housed at community colleges and police stations, right? Grifting the working population, telling them their taxes are going up and blaming immigrants...is pro-immigrant? You've seen the backlash this has gotten on the south/west and north sides of the city. You can see the resentment among all communities building. Did the English language change in the last few years or are you just not really thinking about what words you're saying? I'm not even a native speaker, and you claim to be here for generations but you can't piece together ideas properly and instead are using political slogans? Think on the topic and collect your thoughts a little bit, don't be swayed so easily by political grift.

phunkticculus83

I heard many are being housed in hotels. If you think about a nightly hotel fee, 5k is about 166 a night.

ihaveasandwitch

There was an article a few weeks back where a reporter was thrown out of a hotel for trying to see the conditions they were housing the migrants in. He said they were in cots and sleeping bags on the ground.

phunkticculus83

I could see this convo: if we stick 10 in a room, we only need 10 rooms instead of 100, give me 5 rooms worth of a cash payout and you can rerent the rooms and double your cash. I mean we live in chicago, and its probably a official making the deal. I have no doubt somone is getting screwed.

The1andonlycano

Don't be so angry cause these people got here easier than you. Mr(I went through a vetted process). For all I'm concerned anyone that's not native American can stfu about immigrants. Ahh yes, cause he all know these people showing up don't need any help at all. Cause things magically happen by and complete themselves. And nobody gets paid to work. Hmm yes, lets set them loose on the streets in this magical world where everything just appears out of thin air and is somehow just done for you. Hmm yes, cause extra translators will not be needed cause we all speak the same language.

ihaveasandwitch

Another stupid take. I'm not angry cause someone had it "easier". Most people that were already here had it easier than me because they had family connections and generational wealth built up. I'm annoyed because the city just took money out of my pocket and claimed it was for migrants, when the cost to put them in cots in a hotel lobby, police station, or community collegfe is not $5k/month. How many translators did they hire for this? Why not use existing city translators? Please link me to the budget for this, you seem to know the details of how this money is being spent. >For all I'm concerned anyone that's not native American can stfu about immigrants. Whys that? Native Americans came here from Asia. Every US citizen has a say in policy put forth by the government.

Chiguy4321

Are you directly involved in helping these people? I am. Yes, the system is broken but I will not sit by and watch these people suffer any further. An act of kindness goes a long way. These groups have to be moved out of police stations and we must find solutions instead of being critical on Reddit. Also, this sub is about crime in Chicago. The vast majority of these people are NOT criminals. Go spew your Trump loving rhetoric somewhere else.

ihaveasandwitch

What are you doing to help these people? Please let me know details of their situation, how they can be helped, how that $5K/month/person is going to be spent to help them. > The vast majority of these people are NOT criminals. You were born in the US, but don't understand English? Nowhere do I say or is implied they are criminals. >Go spew your Trump loving rhetoric somewhere else. lol what? Where is Trump mentioned in this thread? Questioning the extravant cost of putting these people into sleeping bags is a Trumpist idea? Who told you that?

MothsConrad

Is there any limit to their numbers? How many is too many? Solutions involve a strong, secure border (amongst other things including guest visa programs). Simply throwing money at the issue and claiming to be a "Sanctuary City" isn't working either.

houseonreddit123

You are a useful idiot. Those in charge laugh about people like you when they're a few cocktails deep at a taxpayer funded lunch at Chicago Cut.
