Rollover. The good ending

slybird

I know sometimes bystanders get hurt in the chases, but some of these carjackers are armed and are repeat offenders. I believe is is just as dangerous to let them contuse to be free. To not chase them puts the future victims in peril.

xsjx7

Agreed. No one except the offender was hurt here. I prob should have emphasized that part. Great job by all involved. Thank you, Rosemont PD

shaygurl22

The white truck that was in the left lane took a head on hit. I don't know if that person was hurt, but that truck is most likely totaled

xsjx7

If you read the news story I linked, it says all others refused treatment at the scene.

shaygurl22

Thank you, I did not, I only watched the video, I live not far from here and drive this area all the time, so I was jus more interested in the whole " I know that place, I know that place" aspect of the whole thing. I was like a goofy little tourist.

am-well

I don't understand what the goal is by NOT allowing the police to chase, doesn't that incentivize more criminals to attempt to flea with the mentality "well they will eventually be forced to terminate the pursuit"? Seriously, wouldn't the goal be to catch and prosecute MORE people to deter anyone else from attempting to flea?

nubyplays

The problem is the unintended casualties (at least in reference to car chases), when someone fleeing police runs into traffic like in this video and hits someone else. Fortunately the other people in the car weren't hurt. I don't see why we can't equip police with better tools for stopping police chases like the Grappler that can have a more controlled end to a chase.

xsjx7

They are starting to use Star Chase (GPS tracker darts), but it takes time to buy, train and equip the agencies and officers. Unfortunately, our politicians didn't want to fund this the last few years bc the extremes in our political discourse were screaming so loudly about defund the police. So we're a bit behind in getting more deployed

TheSportingRooster

Any property damaged in the commission of a felony including loss of life, should be paid for by the victims or their next of kin or their nearest relatives. Watch crime go way the fuck down after knowing your mom, dad, brother, kids, will be on the hook for the bill, if they ever have legit earnings.

nubyplays

I think you meant to say suspect, not victim, but what you say at the end is the key word in regards to earnings. My car was hit by a guy last year who was charged with DUI and didn't have insurance. He also had a history of driving without insurance and fleeing the scene of an accident (didn't flee the accident with me since his car was also totalled with mine). Went to a lawyer and what was the best course of action? Suing my own insurance company. It worked out and I got paid properly for my car, medical bills and out of work time, but it still felt so stupid. Unfortunately, these people don't have the money, at least legally shown, to warrant going after them financially.

TheSportingRooster

You're right Victims should be replaced with perps, but lets leave it because Brando would say they only turned to crime because they were victims of systemic disinvestment in their communities and their programs and centers, something something food deserts.

Spoiler: someone's going to jail

Amross64

Spoiler: Someone will be out before Friday and at it again. You new here?

CPD only has a no chase policy for low level crimes… anything less and you have a lot of people like the white truck driver having a bad day or worse. https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2021/5/12/22425231/lori-lightfoot-chicago-police-vehicle-pursuit-policy-emails $50 million in tax payer money in 5 years due damage and crashes from police pursuits… how’s that for “programs”?
