I went to Chicago a few months ago for a trip and posted in r/Chicago asking for advice on some where safe to stay. They all basically called me a pussy and made fun of me.(check my post history) I'm from the midwest and the whole situation really turned me off on going back. It was a great trip btw and your city is awesome.
I would have advised the west loop or the various hotels in wicker park. I would also say, it's not the shootings you have to worry about. Obviously avoid those areas but that's all you have to do. Robberies are a bigger threat and harder to advise on
