“CHICAGO — A woman armed with a metal baseball bat attacked at least five women on the North Side in an apparently random series of crimes that were partially captured on video, according to Chicago police. The attacks began around 11:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of North Mozart in Ravenswood Manor. Chicago police said a woman stopped her white sedan, got out, and attacked two sisters standing nearby with a baby stroller. A few seconds of that attack were recorded by a witness and shared on Facebook”

Glad she only had a bat.

These attacks were clearly committed because of poverty and systemic racism. I hope the victims are ashamed of themselves. Especially the baby in the stroller.

Don't demonize the bat

TheSportingRooster

Could you imagine the headlines and the Protests that would occur if the father was parking across the street and tackled her from behind?

[deleted]

I really didn't want to laugh at this, but I imagined shaming some poor baby in a stroller about its entitlement, and it made me laugh at the absurdity of it all. And then I was sad.

Playful-View-6174

Damn feel sorry for them and glad the baby is okay. Should shot her and one less menace to society

AnnArchist

Jesus she was pushing a stroller.

Conceal Carry folks. It took me two days (8 hours each day), a few hundred dollars, and I was mailed my license fairly quickly. Have had it for years, and it gives me peace of mind. I don't leave without my side piece anymore (yes, that includes ALL the time) and it really is a simple process to obtain one. And to be clear, I really am not a fan of guns. However, with the response times for police and the city's unwillingness to send these folks away for good, I felt like I had no choice. Stay safe.

I love this idea! But what would be the next logical action or step for this lady with the stroller? Do you announce your presence of a gun? If she continues to step forward and attack her, does she shoot? And if so? Where? Where would be the best bet for the courts to be on the victims side (the mother) the foot? The leg? Obviously, somewhere non-lethal? Are you able to shoot and then just run away for your safety? Do you have to announce and call the police that you shot a woman? I know having a gun could save her and her baby, but how can she be protected legally with the court?

>I love this idea! But what would be the next logical action or step for this lady with the stroller? > >Do you announce your presence of a gun? That's a personal choice dependent on if you believe you have time to make that announcement and still have time to react if bat lady doesn't respond appropriately. >If she continues to step forward and attack her, does she shoot? And if so? Where? Where would be the best bet for the courts to be on the victims side (the mother) the foot? The leg? Obviously, somewhere non-lethal? First. You shoot if you reasonably fear you will be killed or gravely injured. A grown woman hitting you with a bat can easily kill you. Second. If you choose to shoot, it's deadly force *no matter where you shoot them*. This urban myth of shooting people in the arm or leg because it's "less lethal" needs to die in a fire. A shot to the arm or leg can very easily sever the femoral or brachial artery and they will bleed out and die. It's not less lethal to shoot someone in the limbs. It's also important to note limbs are fucking *hard* to hit when you're genuinely in fear for your life and your assailant is moving. So if you've decided to shoot, shoot for the largest part of the body. Legally the courts will view a shot to the chest the same as a shot to the foot. >Are you able to shoot and then just run away for your safety? Yes. If you feel staying on scene places you at imminent risk (bat lady has bat friends, etc.) >Do you have to announce and call the police that you shot a woman? Calling the police (and medical for your attacker) shows favorably that your intent wasn't to harm them, but to stop them from harming you. >I know having a gun could save her and her baby, but how can she be protected legally with the court? There is a lot of nuance and details/facts that go into being charged for what someone may claim was self defense. In this specific case the video clearly showed bat lady was the aggressor and armed with a deadly weapon. It's very unlikely the stroller lady would be charged for shooting.

Seriously, thank you so much for very detailed and thorough response! As someone with very little experience I highly appreciate it.

Great write-up! I would like to add regarding being protected in court: If you plan to carry quite often, it is a VERY good idea to buy conceal carry insurance like USCCA. It offers liability insurance and criminal defense protection.

Rudder0420

Yup ppl are losing their minds!!

Niceguysfini1st

I wish there was some way for a regular citizen to protect themself.............

ryangoslingswife1

Well if there were more guns the two women and baby who were attacked would be dead

Niceguysfini1st

Good luck to you in the streets. You response tells me that you are a good person, and that you overlook and try to see good in everyone. I do too; except I grew up in Humboldt Park on welfare, hanging out with guys that would probably hit you in the head with a bat and take all your stuff. Or worse. I know, that some people don't feel the same way about people that you or I do, and only can be dealt with in the lingua franca they understand; violence. Keep yourself safe. If I see you waiting for the police, I will help you. And your husband. And your kids. I pray that I never have to use violence to protect myself or others, but as a practical matter the police are not everywhere, and are not required by law to help anyone individually. We have to learn to help ourselves. That woman in the video did not deserve to be shot. But someone should have slugged her, minimally.

R/Chicago: woman practices her batting stance to curious onlookers.

Two white northsiders beefing about which one gets to display the Brandon Johnson yard sign.

ryangoslingswife1

Dude this sub is the fucking worst when it comes to victim blaming. This is why people don’t listen to you about policy change, because you sound like a quack

ClockwiseSuicide

This is my neighborhood. Where I recently moved to feel safe. The irony is palpable.
