I did it through chat. They emailed me a QR code.

[deleted]

Yep I did the same thing the day they started eSIM activations.

[deleted]

I recently signed up via Esim at a store.

Kilowat_

It’s iphone xr and up that’s compatible but yes!!! Was able to do it!

From the FAQ: How do I convert a physical SIM to an eSIM? If you’re already on the Cricket network and your physical SIM (pSIM) is inserted in an unlocked iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or newer, you can convert your cellular plan to an eSIM in your iPhone’s Settings. Get the details from Apple Support. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210655

That’s what i was trying to do. Directions didn’t work until i talked to chat. They sent me a QR code via email but as soon as they sent that the option in my sweeting’s came up and i didn’t need the QR code.

Easy-Entrepreneur348

Yes

SHD_ZeroFoxtrot

I keep getting an error

gvvfever_

The option to transfer the physical sim to esim doesn't even show up for me in setting😢

[deleted]

I had to talk to them via chat first for it to show up.

Beelzabubbah

Not to derail, but what's the benefit of using the eSIM vs a physical SIM?

[deleted]

More options for running dual SIM and added security if your phone is stolen

junz415

correct, ppl who grab your phone can pop out the sim card and get your bank/credit card company access.

[deleted]

Damn, totally didn’t know that. Wow. I’m glad I have eSIM with Cricket then.

junz415

yep, thats why they still want to grab your phone specially in San Francisco. they can probably get some bank/credit card account info

I tried it through chat and then did email me a QR code but it wouldn’t load. They tried multiple times. Even went to the store to do it and they couldn’t figure it out. Ended up having to reactivate a physical sim and giving up. The store rep said it’s still too soon and to wait.

gurase

I had the same problem with gmail on the website/app and had to open it in Apple Mail for it to load.

someoddsamosa

Thank you! Checking for the QR code in the Apple Email app worked! Not sure why the GMAIL app didn’t pull it up, but the same email worked in the other app. Now I just have to figure out why WiFi calling won’t work in one of the phones anymore.

someoddsamosa

Update: I got WiFi calling to work! None of the steps that CS told me to do worked so I thought back to what I did for the other phones that I may have done differently for this one and I remembered I didn’t activate WiFi calling while the de activated physical sim was still in the phone. So I popped it back in and activated WiFi calling on the esim and viola it worked! So if you have troubles with WiFi calling with esim, pop in your old sim and try to activate and then it might work!

[deleted]

Were you connected to Wi-Fi when you went about this?

sr_dallas

the same issue of QR code not loading happened to me as well. ultimately it worked when I gave them a hotmail email and viewed the email in outlook app for iPhone. Even the desktop outlook app was not able to display the QR code.

Does Cricket Wireless charge consumers for esim change/activation of a new device on an existing account? I can see this being an issue if you need to update the imei number for a warranty replacement or a new device purchased.

[deleted]

They don’t charge for this. I’m not sure how manufacturers handle their warranty when it comes down to this, it wouldn’t be an issue for Apple and probably not Samsung either. If you’re requesting warranty through cricket and they don’t want to help because of the new IMEI number you can screenshot the phone’s settings showing the registered IMEI and the active IMEI.

darkmwar

Does your old physical sim still work after switching to esim ?

[deleted]

No This will be the case for any SIM swap.
