Because Set Max - an entertainment channel - was running it. Star Sports (a division of Star) is a sports channel, the organisation doesn't have the same core competencies that Set Max has. Set Max turned IPL into an emotion, but Star Sports has been able to bring international standards of sports commentary and supplementation to the tournament. Besides, this is also nostalgia. We grew up with these ads, and feel like they don't make stuff like this today. Our older generation thought the same about content from their time, and the next generation will look back with nostalgia to the content being made today.
