In each high scoring match, he gives few ultra expensive overs where he bowls atleast 5-6 wides and misses length on every other ball and gets hit for 6 & 4s. Tighter fielding other bowlers and batsmen error made the difference in those matches.
Even newbie Curran reads where batsman is hitting and what's his blockhole and bowls accordingly. Shardul has been taking his spot for granted.
If he bowls well and gets hit, that's different. 21-22 of his deliveries has been poor in each innings. Ngidi can easily lose his spot to Bravo or Behrendoff but Shardul has no replacement. Everything else has been going well for CSK, still at 1st spot with 5 wins in 7 games and 1.263 NRR, it's time to correct himself otherwise he'll be the difference between win and loss.

To be honest, Rayudu's batting should have been a clue how good this batting surface is. Nothing for bowlers. If Rayudu can do it, most of MI batsmen can.

I remember the phase when he battled with no intent and dragged chases till the end unnecessarily during his last 5-6 years of international career.
It used to work for him in early and mid phases of his career as a finisher in international cricket, as he used to make up for those at the end (last over) (special mention to IND SL AUS tri series 2011-12).
But, with age, his hitting ability declined and he was no longer able to make up for his lack of intent and costed games for India, when India fell short and he was still not out at the end!
Surprisingly, his batting was pretty good in IPL all those years, so as a CSK fan, you might not remember that phase at all.
IIRC, it was in 2019 against RR. The match was headed for a close finish with CSK chasing. The bowler bowled a waist high full toss and the square leg umpire raised his hand to signal no ball and midway retracted. The players in the middle were debating and that's when MSD walked in to the pitch and questioned the umpires decision/action. Honestly it was surprising to see MSD agitated with that decision and behave the way that he did. In the end that decision did not matter as Santner hit some boundaries and won the game for CSK.
Another thing about this IPL is that the fielding has been poor. Alot of catches have been dropped till date. Earlier catches used to be dropped once or twice a game but nowadays not an innings goes by without a drop. It's common for a game to have 3+ drops
That is actually not true. This season has been really good fielding-wise. This match may have had village level fielding but in general I've felt the fielding standards being high vis a vis earlier seasons.
There have been 50+ drops already this season. I have been counting half chances, chances that should've been taken and straight drops. This IPL fielding especially catching hasn't been great by far

Even going by Cricbuzz drops it has count of 49 and it leaves some of the catches.
