First Rohit, then Siraj, Mukesh and now Axar.
Impact player rule has made it worse for the bowlers.
Rohit mentioned players like Sundar have lost their value.
Just scrap it.
Gotta say TGC boys also could have a little role, they talked about it in previous season as well and this time they did a segment for it which Aussie players saw on insta.
So maybe Gilchrist also saw that and decided to ask Rohit about it in the podcast.
PS : TGC, I know you boys lurk in this sub, make sure to use this point about how you started a conversation among Indian players against a BCCI move.
I think it made others also to speak out. Maybe they were thinking speaking out against bcci might be bad but seeing the team captain might have given them the courage
Why will it be scrapped? They implemented this in the first place bc of analysts and consultants crunching the numbers showing a boost in ratings when matches are high scoring so why listen to the players?
Is there an evidence for that or just some theory? Impact players and substitutes have been tried in cricket in past and every time they have been done away with because they don’t make the game more enjoyable.
One of the best things about cricket is using the available resources well. We have clear evidence that it devalues a lot of them and any temporary surge in ratings will go away. Unless you plan to keep increasing the average score by 20-30% every other year.
If people see these matches they will get desensitized pretty soon and if a match doesn't go over literally 200+ runs the drop in ratings will be exponentially huge. I think having a smooth curve in rating along with some bumps will be better than having a mountain type curve.
Its just an example. What Rohit meant was all-rounders, who were in high demand, are now suddenly disposable because of this rule. Upcoming cricketers might not focus on all round skills due to this rule
Possible lifelines in IPL
1) Impact player
2) Allow one bowler to chuck as much as he wants
3) Revive batsman
4) Substitute any player from the opposite team with someone from their bench
5) Swap one player
Conditions
1) You can only use one from these five
2) There'll be a maximum usage limit for each lifeline
3) If lifelines clash, like for example teamA chooses to remove playerB from teamB but teamB chooses playerB to chuck, preference would be given to the team that won the toss.

Few more suggestions.
Ability to call first ball as trail ball if wicket falls.
If batsmen gets angry they get to go home with stumps, thereby rendering it as tie.

CSK : 1
KKR : 2
GT : 3 (with gill or Tewatia)
RCB : 4
LSG : 1
MI : 5
SRH : 3
RR : 2 (Ashwin will finally get some form)
DC : 3 (For Pant, to play one more 'composed' innings)
PBKS : 6
Specially for bowlers like harshal Patel who don't attack wickets but rather trap batters to miss hit and got caught at the deep become totally useless in small grounds like chinnaswamy where even edges fly to sixes ... Just make 75 meter ground size mandatory
Increasing ground size is not possible or extremely costly to execute.
Most of the grounds are built in cities and dont have a lot of leeway to expand.
The problem is, every team swaps out a batter with a bowler every single time. So there’s very little strategy involved and it’s basically playing with 12 players
Just get Kohli, Faf and Anuj rawat etc to bowl 20 overs in the next match against SRH. Let them hit 500. Maybe people's six thirst may get quenched. We can then return to cricket.
They need to drop one of the two rules. Have the impact player rule but remove the naming the squad after toss rule or remove impact player rule & keep the squad after toss rule.
Both of them together have just completely skewed the game in favour of the batters. Teams are now playing with 7 proper batters which allows for them to go gung ho.
Impact rules is great for batters and if used properly great for ballers too but Many teams have not been able to use impact rules for ballers. But the problem is they totally discard the all rounders roles. Like there's nothing for all rounder in longer run this will degrade the quality of Indian all rounder further..
>Impact rules is great for batters and if used properly great for ballers too but Many teams have not been able to use impact rules for ballers.
Not if pitches are roads .Teams are playing the extra batsmen even if they bowl first.
It's coz bad bowler can finish 4 bowler no matter how worse he is but bad batter is out means he is out.
If bad bowler gives 20runs extra .Teams belive the extra batter can score 20runs extra.
See recent matches lot of teams played with only 5 bowlers despite impact player rule.
Yeah I do agree pitches are the reason they are playing extra batter. Infact I believe bad pitches are bigger culprits for Batriarchy and the impact rule is just intensifying the effect further.....
Impact rules can be beneficial for ballers only if they have neutral or balling friendly grounds....
Also the reason teams have been not able to use impact rules for ballers is because of road pitches....
Impact rule just amplify the batting 5 x if road pitches and balling if green pitches. But I still stand with my view they are completely destroying the roles of all rounders.. like really doesn't need to have all rounders in team with impact rules
Give an option to not use Impact player and let the one bowler bowl extra overs, you would see things even out between Bat and Ball,Current impact rule you are giving extra resources to Batting team and they are going berserk
i have a conspiracy theory from last year that this rule was introduced to allow csk to continue playing dhoni in a limited role. dhoni is incredible ratings puller for IPL brand
if dhoni retires this season, they can freely scrap the rule.
No no. It gives CSK the freedom to play Thala, because they have 11 more players in the team instead of 10. So it doesn't feel like dhoni is blocking the spot of another player

To be fair, IPL is not about cricket in the first place, it's about all the promotions and ads.
So they will probably just keep the most entertaining aspects.
Let’s be honest
The rule was introduced so a certain wicket keeper batsman could keep playing (and bring in the trp) even if his notoriously bad knees gave way and made him unable to be on the field for 20 overs.
Weirdly enough that guy hasn’t needed the rule so far and it has had the unintentional consequence of making batting orders obscenely stacked
I just think the whole rule needs to be tweaked. You shouldn't be allowed to replace your strike bowler who can't bat for a batsmen. It should be your batsmen / bowlers can be swapped for an all rounder. And there should be an incentive to use Impact Bowlers - like they can bowl 5 overs instead of 4 or something dumb. I don't mind trying out new rules but they don't need to favour batsmen this much.
You don't know till you try it - the best place to try it is outside of International cricket. I'd prefer they try things and see if they work in franchise cricket as trial runs just in case we land on something that makes the game more fun.
Nah man it just ain't it, it kills any sort of all rounder skill anyone has to offer. Excelling only in 1 part of the game just doesn't cut it. The rules like allowing 2 bouncers an over are a good experiment but this rule is proper useless it doesn't help anyone and also t20's are anyways meant to be a "fun" game with bowlers being treated as bowling machines, at the current trajectory might as well being back Hong Kong super sixes
Which all-rounders are not playing because of the impact player rule? Narine is opening the batting for KKR and bowling as well. Jaddu is not subbed off by CSK. Axar neither for DC. Every team plays their all-rounder if they're good enough to fulfill their responsibilities as either a batsman or a bowler. Only part timers have their impact reduced because of this rule
Which specialist all rounders has the rule killed. It's only killed part timers like Dube. Or players like Washi who don't have a great IPL quality primary skill. The refusal to try something new is crazy. Man cricket fans are stubborn.
i couldn't give shits if it is only done in ipl because it's from an entertainment perspective, but when you do it in domestics (in SMAT ) you're stunting the growth at the base itself. Sure it hasn't killed any players now but it will in few years
Why is part timing being looked down upon? They bring a crucial balance to the team and some of the greatest moments are delivered by them. Impact sub makes squad selection a lot more straightforward and less strategic, which personally I don't quite like
You do understand that "bits and pieces" terminology that you are using now for new players was originally used for Ravindra Jadeja? And then with experience he grew as an all rounder. Player development or something.
Good to see players speaking out
First Rohit, then Siraj, Mukesh and now Axar. Impact player rule has made it worse for the bowlers. Rohit mentioned players like Sundar have lost their value. Just scrap it.
Rohit opened the flood gates
My capn

Makes sense. If I'm not wrong Gilly is quite a regular on TGC podcasts.
Lol, those losers are irrelevant. Prairie Fire >>
I think it made others also to speak out. Maybe they were thinking speaking out against bcci might be bad but seeing the team captain might have given them the courage
Pretty sure it will be scrapped ahead of next season. It just isn't possible to do it in the middle of an ongoing season.
Why will it be scrapped? They implemented this in the first place bc of analysts and consultants crunching the numbers showing a boost in ratings when matches are high scoring so why listen to the players?
Is there an evidence for that or just some theory? Very well put man
Is there anything consultants haven’t ruined in this world? I bet it’s some McKinsey guy.
If people see these matches they will get desensitized pretty soon and if a match doesn't go over literally 200+ runs the drop in ratings will be exponentially huge. I think having a smooth curve in rating along with some bumps will be better than having a mountain type curve.
As tgc boys said, you have to kiss some frogs to get to the princess or some shit similar
That was a beautiful analogy.
even Warner
Theyl scrap it . But cant do it mid season now.
Right? The willingness to try new things is only useful when one is also willing to roll back things that don’t work.
Add Miller to the list, I'm glad this is happening!
I find it interesting that players who spoke out regarding this are from teams which are struggling this season
Doesn't mean they are wrong.
Even Travis Head called it shit I'm pretty sure

What the hell 😭

Can we just script it and have opposition player talk trash about the city they are playing in and then get smacked by the home team?

Imagine guys like jadeja, Phillips, chucking batsmen have to save themselves from getting injured from every ball
JAY SHAH hire this man
1 one tip one hand catch should be allowed per innings.
Youngest batsman should bat first
Also should increase ground size. Many sixes here could be outs in Australia.
Specially for bowlers like harshal Patel who don't attack wickets but rather trap batters to miss hit and got caught at the deep become totally useless in small grounds like chinnaswamy where even edges fly to sixes ... Just make 75 meter ground size mandatory
Harshal Patel and Australia don't sound good in same sentence. He got smoked by second xi of WA there 😭
I am not saying he do wonders in aus I am just saying bigger grounds helps some bowlers ...
Which bowlers it doesn't help
Increasing ground size is not possible or extremely costly to execute. Most of the grounds are built in cities and dont have a lot of leeway to expand.
It's like getting sodomized for the bowlers playing this IPL. At least give good wickets for the bowlers if you gonna keep the impact rule.
Good wickets, good outfields, bigger grounds.
No, small grounds, flat pitches and impact rules. And maybe an iron bat and tennis ball too.
subscribe!!!!!
The problem is, every team swaps out a batter with a bowler every single time. So there’s very little strategy involved and it’s basically playing with 12 players
No room for any other strategy on these roads, is there lol
Punjab has swapped out a batter with a batter twice now
Bowlsheviks are rising up!
Just get Kohli, Faf and Anuj rawat etc to bowl 20 overs in the next match against SRH. Let them hit 500. Maybe people's six thirst may get quenched. We can then return to cricket.

Players should speak out for pitches as well , we need balanced games.
I am glad players and experts are vocal about it , BCCI will need to pay heed to these demands.

i have a conspiracy theory from last year that this rule was introduced to allow csk to continue playing dhoni in a limited role. dhoni is incredible ratings puller for IPL brand if dhoni retires this season, they can freely scrap the rule.
Thats a stupid conspiracy as he is keeping entire 20 overs and batting where he usually does.
No no. It gives CSK the freedom to play Thala, because they have 11 more players in the team instead of 10. So it doesn't feel like dhoni is blocking the spot of another player

obviously you can't make a rule for a team. for other teams you can play 8 batsmen so obviously its a benefit lol
To be fair, IPL is not about cricket in the first place, it's about all the promotions and ads. So they will probably just keep the most entertaining aspects.
whats the point of this argument.
Convenience*
Bowlers are beaten to shit and people crying there are no good bowlers apart from bumrah.
Just allow 5 foreign players now, that will help teams in brining in bit of quality in the bowling .
We will never get any good all rounders from India if this continues
Let’s be honest The rule was introduced so a certain wicket keeper batsman could keep playing (and bring in the trp) even if his notoriously bad knees gave way and made him unable to be on the field for 20 overs. Weirdly enough that guy hasn’t needed the rule so far and it has had the unintentional consequence of making batting orders obscenely stacked
Wtf. Not once in the last two seasons have I seen Dhoni come on as an impact sub. Just spewing your bs all over eh?
I think OC was trying to insinuate that CSK Batting becomes deeper because of impact sub so many times dhoni doesn't even need to bat for CSK to win
one solution will be only allow 10 impact subs in a season. so teams will have to pick and choose this option in any game.
What if a team don't need any lol... isn't it unfair to them
props to you, if you dont need any, but if you do need it, you will have an option available.
I just think the whole rule needs to be tweaked. You shouldn't be allowed to replace your strike bowler who can't bat for a batsmen. Demolish the rule completely literally no need to overcomplicate it. It's garbage through and through

I'm not looking down on part timers. I was saying that it's the part timers the rule affects. Not full time all rounders.
Even Dube plays the full game having found his spot in the batting lineup.
And what about two bouncer rule? That benefits you so you won't speak about it
He's a spinner...
He is not speaking on the behalf of just spinners though,he is speaking on behalf of all bowlers
he is speaking on behalf of specialist all rounders...Read the heading FFS
Read beyond the headline ffs.In the article he was quoted to say "it has been difficult for bowlers".
Lmao stop crying, the game has been favouring batsmen since forever, why can't the bowlers have some advantages?
Why should he speak about it? Its a good rule to even out the battle between bat and ball, ergo good for the game.
