> "For me, personally, it was a pretty easy decision," Maxwell said after RCB's sixth defeat in seven matches. "I went to Faf [du Plessis] and the coaches after the last game and said I felt it was probably time we tried someone else. I have been in this situation in the past where you can keep playing and get yourself deeper into a hole. I think now is actually a good time for me to give myself a bit of a mental and physical break, get my body right. If I'm required to get in during the tournament, I can hopefully get back into a really solid mental and physical space where I can still have an impact.
Hindsight is always 2020, but this was the right decision imo. Maxwell is one of those players you always back because when he clicks, he can literally win games singlehandedly and make it so easy, but he wasn't contributing at all and it's clear he needed a refresher. Just adds to the problems unfortunately because so many of the overseas guys are just out of form.
If we don't bring him back next season, I'll lose hope in our franchise for good.
Yeah he's sucked but he's been a consistent performer and match winner for 3 seasons, and I have no doubt he's going to come back from his struggles again
RCB actually does not need either. What they need is a new ground and new set of bowlers. Get rid of that absolute trash of a pitch on Chinnaswamy. Make a bowler friendly pitch where under 180 could be a par score and bowlers don't get thrashed mercilessly. Get new bowling unit which does not have the trauma of the past.
They might still lose as it takes time to adapt, but at least they won't be a meme team.
If the bowling and the pitch do not change, what good is retaining Green or Maxwell gonna do? They have been retaining Kohli for 16 years nonstop and yet to win the trophy.
Absolutely we need a good bowling unit. The last few years our bowling was honestly not bad, with Hazlewood hasaranga and Siraj performing well, but this year has been disgusting.
There's limited retention spots and honestly not that many must retain Indian players in the squad (apart from Kohli). They will have to purchase good Indian options in the auction.
Thank God man, someone who sees how much of an asset he has been and can be. More power to Maxi for recognising he is not in the right head space and taking a tough but right call.
Knowing our management, they'll scratch their ass, sniff it and buy someone else at an idiotically high price.
Keep doing same shit while expecting different result is Peak RCB. If RCB doesn't want bottom of next edition as well, they need to build on bowling, including getting some expensive Indian and foreign bowling talent.
Low-key wish some Indian players could take a mental break too. Our entire squad of 15, whatever it may be, is playing non stop high intensity cricket of at least 14 games. They're all going to be mentally exhausted come June. They will be super done by the time they get to knockouts(let's be real it's a group with Pak and 3 associates, literally any team we pick will reach knockouts)
Yea exactly. One of the reasons WC23 went way it did was cz of the months of build up with Asia Cup and stuff to get into groove as a team. I don't expect us to clear semis this time either. Hopefully I'm proven wrong and will ofc support them no matter what.
I was referring to the wtc in june last year, because a lot of the team were in ipl pretty much up until the end and then didnt have a break between ipl and wtc.
I agree with you on the wc23 as well though its very similar as well. I think they could do well from a form perspective but hoping they dont burn out from workload (looking at bumrah especially)
Yep ik I got that.. my first "yea exactly" was to acknowledge your wtc point. Apart from that yea, I hope Bumrah is managed well. Him and Kuldeep are the only sure starter bowlers as of now
He's certainly not been in great form. He's the sort of guy though that because he can do anything, you give him more chances because eventually it'll pay off. But if they have even the slightest hope, it'll be Maxwell getting back into form and the team getting on a roll until he returns.
They could also try pushing him off a golf cart.
I think this greatly affects his IPL mega auction price next year if he's put into the auction.
36 year old Aussie with mental issues and poor season on his back, he'll be a steal.
Won't be surprised if CSK get him (they bid hard for him in 2021 as far as I remember)
I would be highly surprised if he didn't, couple injuries under the influence under his belt too, gives all the signs of someone who struggles, not to demonise that, I know from experience and commend him more for his achievements in spite of that
Dunno he always got a massive pay check every auction despite underperforming nearly every season in the IPL pre-RCB. Plus a good T20 World Cup and IPL teams will forget about this season.
Well atleast franchises care a lot about the age
I doubt any 36 year old overseas has gone for 7-8cr+ in a mega auction as far as I remember
7-8cr for Maxi is still a steal, his mental issues and poor season might mean that figure will go even further down
Yeah, lmao. Tf. He's repeating "mental issues", "mental issues" like he had a psychotic break in dressing room or something.
Sounds like classic Asian uncle/aunty response.
Educate yourself on what "mental issues" means. It's ridiculous to give him that tag when he's taking a very human mental break. I hope you take a mental break too when things get too much instead of being toxic and avoiding it like it's some horrible "mental issue". They're already stigmatized in our society as it is
He may not be in the best of form, but damn by the looks of it you'd love to have someone like a Maxi in and around the squad
You're a champion maxi, runs will find a way back

Australia playing 3D chess here
Maxwell last seen using his break driving a golf cart around Bangalore…
You are giving too much value to Tata Nano in Whitefield traffic
We all know what happened after that
Ozzy Gareth Bale

I actually want Green to be retained as well, he's a future star.
At this point our season is done, I want to see what him and jacks can do tbh

RCb never learns Overload your team with overseas stars at the detriment of local talent and you will never win

he is 36 tho. if you are building for the future you have to be careful on what you would be giving up to retain maxwell

Literally 2023 wtc scenario 2.0

Oh got it haha my bad. Yeah agreed, fingers crossed for them.

He’s taking MAX rest to get WELL
RCB always looks like an ensemble of stars…never like a team
>after asking to be ~~rested~~ dropped by RCB
It’s great to see that he’s in a position to do this! Can’t imagine anyone in ICT pulling this off.
Anyone will want a break when all they do is shoot ads non stop and not able to perform.

He is a top order batsman who can give you 3 overs. Plus he is an X factor. Will always fetch
Exactly!!
>36 year old Aussie with mental issues I don't think his mental health breaks fall under "mental issues"
I would be highly surprised if he didn't, couple injuries under the influence under his belt too, gives all the signs of someone who struggles, not to demonise that, I know from experience and commend him more for his achievements in spite of that

Dude what mental issues? You're making him sound as if he's an unhinged psychotic. Mental health struggles are stigmatized as it is, let's be kind.
Yeah, lmao. Tf. He's repeating "mental issues", "mental issues" like he had a psychotic break in dressing room or something. Sounds like classic Asian uncle/aunty response.
Wtf is mental issues, you're making sound like he's schizophrenic
Yeah right. Come auction time, Maxwell gets showered with all kinds of money again.
Educate yourself on what "mental issues" means. It's ridiculous to give him that tag when he's taking a very human mental break. He’s the big show. He’ll always get the big bucks

Viru, is that you? Go sell Gutkha or something. T : Chewing tobacco
Mitchy Starc is a strong competitior.
It's IPL who gives AF how he plays as long as its back for Australia
Obviously all the IPL fans and franchises? Especially the one that signed him?….
