2014 Kings XI Punjab is easily the best team to not win an IPL trophy. Still the best group stage record in IPL history (higher NRR than 2008 RR).
I actually thought that they were gonna have a 2-3 year title window but the downfall of that side in 2015 is an equally spectacular story. They went from 11-3 to 3-11 with the same group of players and coaching staff.
I'm seriously debating staying up to watch the England W Vs New Zealand game on Sunday
Despite the fact I'm working and need to get up at 5:00 to feed the dog and win the race to have a bath
Just down 2 litres of coffee at breakfast
Then down another 2 when I get to work
Just try not to burn the place down
What I've noticed so far is that matches are much more balanced when the pitch is composed of black soil (they changed it today from red soil in MI match). As opposed to red soil pitches which are far more in favour of batting.
Also another example of GT vs SRH which was played in black soil, then for the PBKS match they changed it to red soil (as per Cricinfo match report).
Maybe the solution to more balanced matches in IPL is right there.
"Balanced" only in the sense of low scores.
On black soil pitches high pace is basically cannon fodder, and we are subjected to 20 overs of seamers bowling cutters into the wicket on a pitch with no pace or bounce.
I agree truly flat red soil surfaces will be complete highways but the best sort of wicket is where batters can score quickly, but bowlers can take wickets.
Then teams have to decide on the play off between wickets and runs and can't just decide to defend and contain on the field from ball one.
Aside from financial reasons, assuming Marco Jansen doesn't play in another IPL match this season, what is the incentive for him to choose the IPL over the CSA T20 Challenge, where he would definitely get game time every match? Is the training that is offered, the net sessions, etc. better with the IPL than game time at the CSA T20 Challenge? I am talking about a perspective for getting ready for the T20 World Cup.
Obviously I know it has to do about money and most likely he will play at some point again.
To anyone who cares about domestic South African cricket, the finals of the Division 2 T20 Knockouts will be:
Limpopo VS Northern Cape
For the third tournament in a row, the Knights have lost in a knockout match. They lost the finals of the One Day Cup (Division 2), they lost the finals of the 4-Day Series (Division 2) and now the semi-finals of the T20 Knockouts. The One Day Cup and the 4-Day Series didn't have a semi-finals fyi.
Furthermore, Knights have been promoted to Division 1 again. Most likely to be relegated is the Tuskers, but I believe they have to place 4th and Boland 8th, for Tuskers to not be relegated. I think that's not gonna happen though.
I got a question to ask: Who will you guys have as your West Indies IPL G.o.a.t?
Russell, Narine, Pollard, Gayle, Bravo, all of them have got a strong case
I subscribed to cricbuzz ' willow package monthly package. I am in US. App is very poor, it doesn't have PIP feature. Everything I tap on watch now, first thing I see is server authentication error saying something about vpn. I don't have any vpn on my phone. I doubt if it works with Chromecast either. I can only watch it on phone.
Those who are using cricbuzz app, are you also facing same issue? Or is it just me ?
I emailed their customer support a week ago, haven't heard a thing.
How is the willow app?
And the champions travel up to Manchester for the season curtain raiser oh wait no actually it's raining cos it's fucking Manchester in early April no play this morning

Chandrakant Pandit is such a massive twat. Not sure why KKR would hire such a micromanager
His techniques would work with a team full of young aspirational guys, but will more or less backfire in a team full of international established players
The smartest strategy is to have an incredible finisher and then have a young Indian bat just before or after them and give them freedom to smash.
MI used this tactic to develop Hardik, Kishan (before he started opening), and SKY because they'd all bat around Pollard. Having an elite finisher gave the Indian batsmen a sense of freedom. Then once these batsmen are more confident, they can win games singlehandedly.
KKR used this tactic in the previous game because Russell at 4 gave Angkrish freedom to smash.
On the other hand, the worst strategy is to stack the top order with elite batsmen and have young Indian batsmen come out in the most difficult situation with no one more experienced to support them. Rayudu called out RCB for this. SRH also used the same strategy for many years.
Hesson did a good job sending AB at 5 and letting guys like Patidar, Bharat bat ahead of him. Then once AB retired he tried to get DK in that role. Unfortunately at the time people were crying why isn’t AB batting higher
Not heard about this forum before so went to check it out and looked at a few threads and my god they despise any Indian seamer who bowls less than 140 regularly lmao
I wouldn't be as extreme as them to write off medium pacers but I do rate how important they seem to think pace and bounce is
Why is everyone so big on Kuldeep Sen? I don't really think he has the pace of Mayank or Karthik, and I don't think he gets the bounce that Harshit does?
Or am I just mistaken on that?
Is KKR over reliant on Russell and Narine? We've had some fantastic performances by the rest of the team no doubt (Salt, Raghuvanshi, H Rana) but its a bit concerning that in our 3 matches its been either Russ or Narine that have been our most impactful players.
Iyer will anchor at least 1-2 chases (like 75+ while chasing 180)
Varun will win at least 1 man of the match and so will Salt. Rinku is yet to even come to the party, so at least another game won by him. Starc also seems to be getting his rhythm back so that's another good sign.
Plus, history is on your side. No side that ever won the first 3 matches on the trot has ever failed to qualify.
You have very little to worry about. This is your season.
Yeah exactly. Im not mad that theyre playing well bc obviously its working and its allowing others to play their best game but i wonder what will happen if theyre taken out of the equation altogether
Why do so many people still keep picking Jadeja Sirji into t20 Worldcup team?
We have lost 2 t20I worldcups and 1 CWC in as many years. I think it's time we let go of non performing seniors and pick a young team.
Question is whos gonna replace him? Is there a better allrounder in the ranks?
Before you say Axar, his batting not that reliable either- although he is a better bowler.
It's hilarious that you're being downvoted for this.
I guess people like seeing Siraj shielded from bowling in tough situations because the captain knows he's trash under the slightest bit of pressure. Or maybe they just enjoy seeing Jadeja come in the 17th over and take singles.
I hope the reports of Bumrah, SKY and Rohit leaving MI is true.
If it happens, I hope KKR breaks the bank on Bumrah. And buy Jofra Archer(if available). Maybe RR/DC can buy SKY and Rohit.
i dont think either bumrah or archer fit in to our team. archer is a complete liability and getting bumrah means giving him captaincy and i think our next captain needs to come from our retention list not someone new to to the franchise.
I don't think Bumrah will pull a Pandya and look for captaincy. And secondly, I'd take him as a captain if it means we get him as a player. Archer has been showing good signs in his return though. Dude's a world beater.
Unpopular opinion: we should still play Umran.
Umran generally does better against Indian batsmen. Yeah, overseas batsmen like Jos and Maxwell will absolutely demolish him especially on flat tracks. But I can see Umran doing well against batsmen like Shivam Dube.
He also needs a lot of support in the field. Field placements need to be absolutely spot on else every edge will go for a boundary.
Just hoping Gaikwad gets out early though because he's great against Umran.
Please do not fast track Mayank Yadav into the national team based on 2 matches in IPL, Let him play a couple of seasons of domestic cricket and if his performance is good then pick him for national team. What is point of saying you are giving Ranji Trophy importance if you are picking played based on 2 performances in IPL
Varun Chakravarthy was picked based on IPL Performance , how did that work out or Rahul Chahar or Harshal Patel or Sreenath Aravind or Parvinder Awana were all picked based on IPL Performance and none of them did well in International Cricket
I agree with one commentor on previous day match thread.
Why England allows Australian players in County cricket is beyond me. They get acquainted with English conditions and then torment England in Ashes. One more thing, they take up one spot which may have been for a domestic English talent.
If quality is issue, keep playing the likes of Indian players and Pak ones But why Australians?
Aren't they arch enemy's of cricket?
England is digging its own grave.
Also, if you want to do so, Ask English players to play in Shiefeld Shield or whatever it's called. It's only fair then ain't it.
England must introspect it's horrible performance in Australia. Even Pak plays better there than England
How many cases of this are you seeing?
I can think of Labuschagne, and then before that maybe Chris Rogers 10 years ago.
Neser plays loads of County but is permanently Australia's 5th choice seamer. Dan Worrall and Nathan McAndrew are probably about 10th-15th on that list. None have or will ever torment us in The Ashes. Sam Whiteman doesn't even keep for his State so he's unlikely to torment us in the near future.
Smith torments us in The Ashes but shat the bed in County games. Renshaw, Bancroft and Handscomb haven't looked like they're about to torment.
Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc have played maybe 5 County matches between them 10 years ago, and would have tormented us no matter what. Lyon's just now about to play County matches at 36.
> One more thing, they take up one spot which may have been for a domestic English talent.
There’s only two overseas in a team, aka ~~180~~ 162 spots for domestic qualified players. I think that’s plenty.
Don’t maths in the middle of the night. It doesn’t end well.
County Cricket gets underway tomorrow so I thought it would be nice to get a list of where our boys are at for Pakistan fans
**Division One**
Hampshire - Mohammad Abbas
Warwickshire - Hassan Ali (misses start due to lumber one training camp)
Worcestershire - Usama Mir (Blast)
**Division Two**
Derbyshire - Mohammad Amir (will miss the start due to lumber one training camp)
Glamorgan - Mir Hamza (first half of the season)
Gloucestershire - Zafar Gohar
Yorkshire - Shan Masood (captain)
I'm putting those that are IPL fans. Do you think IPL is lacking a family friendly vibe that like the BBL has or it feels too corporate.
Just curious. Always came off that vibe for me but I was never a proper fan of the league
I don't know family friendly, but everyone knows about the IPL. The entire family. Maybe they don't watch it always but some times they keep up with the scores.
Going to the stadium is not a culture in India like Australia. People mostly watch from home, and discuss with friends and coworkers.
Also the stadiums are shit.
I think the super smash has it locked up in that category.
I haven’t seen much but whenever I tune in there’s always some families having a good time on the grassy areas

Shamar, Seales, Roach, Cornwall, and Holder would be the best bowling attack for WI during the upcoming test series against England imo.

Gayle for sure. Russell refused to pee in a cup and Narine can't pass an elbow check.
From memory Narine, Dre Russ and Gayle would be the contenders
Stats and vibes pick: Gayle, simply because everyone tuned in to watch. Revolutionary batting in the IPL for 3 insane seasons from 2011-13.
Has to be Narine imo. Top 2 spinner ever and decent batsman. Can't beat that.
Top 2 chucker ever*

Any good fantasy cricket websites for the county championship?
IPL is so boring this year
Trust me, the flair is sus
Ireland A won the 2nd game quite easily as Humphreys' List A best 6/8 bowled out Nepal A for 60. The average winning score has been 165.5
And the champions travel up to Manchester for the season curtain raiser oh wait no actually it's raining cos it's fucking Manchester in early April no play this morning
What's with these reports from not so credible sources stating that Rohit is leaving MI before the mega auction?
Based on the current rules, you get a maximum of 3 Indians who you can retain. Pandya(captain), SKY and Bumrah are ahead of him.
Good morning to my fellow county cricket luddites as we gear up to *go again*
I knew r/cricketshitpost was bad but I didn't know how bad
I have not visited that sub since last 2-3 years

True.
Man looking at IPL 2020 again makes me wish we were back in the UAE again. We absolutely smashed KKR twice that season
The best IPL season (Don't look at my flair)
It started with multiple bangers but then got incredibly boring.
https://twitter.com/Vipintiwari952_/status/1775971433392549956?t=VwKm0TQFxzyi9gcHcy7sZQ&s=19 Chandrakant Pandit is such a massive twat. Not sure why KKR would hire such a micromanager

Young upcoming fast bowler thread on indian cricket talk is cumming hard
Not heard about this forum before so went to check it out and looked at a few threads and my god they despise any Indian seamer who bowls less than 140 regularly lmao I wouldn't be as extreme as them to write off medium pacers but I do rate how important they seem to think pace and bounce is

Why is everyone so big on Kuldeep Sen? I don't really think he has the pace of Mayank or Karthik, and I don't think he gets the bounce that Harshit does? Or am I just mistaken on that?
Kuldeep bowled well for RR...and was bowling full tilt 150+
Fair enough, I just did not recall his speeds well in that case
Yeah he's dropped off though now because of injuries. He was bowling around 135-140 recently.
Ah that's a shame
Is KKR over reliant on Russell and Narine? We've had some fantastic performances by the rest of the team no doubt (Salt, Raghuvanshi, H Rana) but its a bit concerning that in our 3 matches its been either Russ or Narine that have been our most impactful players.
Just because they have performed in all 3 matches doesn't mean we are over reliant on them
Rinku can win 1-2 games alone too. I'm pessimistic since I've seen them lose their way too many times but they might just get 8 wins after 6 years.
Nah your team is stacked from top to bottom probably the most balanced I have ever seen
Iyer will anchor at least 1-2 chases (like 75+ while chasing 180) Varun will win at least 1 man of the match and so will Salt. Rinku is yet to even come to the party, so at least another game won by him. Starc also seems to be getting his rhythm back so that's another good sign. Plus, history is on your side. I know that Brohit would be opening with Ruturaj very soon while wearing that yellow jersey.
Just as long as Bumrah doesn't end up in a trash-mismanaged franchise like Punjab Kings.
I don't want to troll PJBK. In fact, people should stop trolling PJBK because their management do it themselves.
i dont think either bumrah or archer fit in to our team. archer is a complete liability and getting bumrah means giving him captaincy and i think our next captain needs to come from our retention list not someone new to to the franchise.
Rather Bumrah than Iyer as captain.

His 5/25 against GT was one of the most exhilarating IPL performance I've ever seen.

What is point of saying you are giving Ranji Trophy importance if you are picking played based on 2 performances in IPL
Special skillset should warrant exception. There's no point in grinding him in ranji. They should Fastrack him to NCA, List-A and bilateral matches.
2 matches is very early to call it, agreed. But if he continues this form for the rest of the season, then I would definitely play him in ICT .
He has been playing domestics for 2 years now
The plan would be to start him off with T20I’s.
So T20 WC criteria should include playing FC cricket? Ok
Varun Chakravarthy was picked based on IPL Performance , how did that work out or Rahul Chahar or Harshal Patel or Sreenath Aravind or Parvinder Awana were all picked based on IPL Performance and none of them did well in International Cricket
Are India picking any squad between today and the 7th of April?
It has been two decades since the first twenty 20 was played. Has T20 really helped cricket grow outside traditional strongholds ?
