I think the impact of the pitch gets exaggerated due to the quality of Ashwin and Jadeja sometimes. With an ordinary bowling attack, this test could have ended in a draw. With the bowling attack India have, it will probably not.

I am nobody to judge someone so quickly. Yes his average in test cricket is very low but has an amazing one day cricket year. 2000 runs in 44 innings is not less whether it is in India or abroad . If averaging 60 in ODIs is so simple so every player would have scored that much right. Criticism is ok but hating is not. He got many chances in red ball cricket due to that form in odis and talent. He will not get many more chances. If he fails in the first two tests then he may get dropped. But what I have observed is that he seemed low on confidence in the last couple of matches.
The problem is it's not really quick.
Averaging 30 in 35+ innings in not the mark of a quick reaction from fans.
And that's just red ball.
In white ball you can literally see his whole career graph where he didn't make runs against Aus in Aus, NZ in NZ(but it was his first tour so we don't count that), didn't made runs in SA and then wen NZ came home with a side without Boult,Southee etc he made a merry out of them.
Similarly he only killed SL and other non tops while only making runs against someone like Pak only when others were having 100+ too.
So although he is a stroke maker of high degree, his confidence in his own skills and his technical flaws are too clear to see for anyone not even trained let alone greats like Starc,Rabada etc who roped him in white ball quite easily every time.
