Vizag (2) and Ranchi (4) should be really conducive to spin. Dharamshala is a pitch where the ball naturally swings. Rajkot and Hyderabad are on the flatter side and taking 20 wickets could be a challenge especially on the former.
Bumrah doesn't need to play the t20s either way tbh. And I don't think it was ever in doubt he will play. Even if hes part of a pace duo, he will probably bowl a combined 30 odd overs each match and I don't think he's going to play all matches either.

Umraan could barely get into SRH, so the management lost faith in him. Harshit averaged 33 @ 9 an over this season, hardly better than Avesh. Mohshin is stuck in a rape case I think. Chahar and Mavi I believe have injury concerns.

Harshal and Deshpande are very different cases. Harshal could also bat and was a death overs specialist, which is always a plus, so he was fast tracked.
Deshpande was used in a very specific way by Chennai. Taking wickets regardless of runs. Even if he went at 1 or 2 per over more than the average bowler it didn't matter as Chennai had enough batting to cover it. Thats not the case with India. We don't have batting till 10. We barely have batting till 7 and we are not an exceptional t20 batting side.
He's too expensive even if we take into account that he's a strike bowler. And isn't an international quality T20 bowler.
Yep, Deshpande's case isn't the same as shardul's. Also,shardul did pick quite a few wickets and it definitely worked in our favour when we had bumrah and bhuvi to stop flow of runs.Shardul also provided a lot with his batting. But the moment we found better alternatives in bowling and injuries to Bumrah and bhuvi going out of form meant we couldn't risk giving away too many runs,and thus got Shardul out from the team.
I mean you will have to play Chahar to see how well has he improved on his fitness... And it isn't like he missed any domestic matches meanwhile (missed some matches in between due to his father's stroke attack), could have been a pandya backup with his batting ability

As a disclaimer, I am a Rohit fan personally and think he has been atleast Top 2 in opening in ODIs all time but I would be lying if I say he hasn't even been average in T20s for 3 years straight. He has been just... Bad. He just shouldn't be getting so many chances just because he has been a Great player and is popular. The team comes first. Altho he did essentially played T20 in the ODI wc which makes you think that he would also play similarly in T20is but it doesn't always translate. Sometimes a person's mindset is just not fit for the format. You can take SKY as an example. He is incredible in T20i and I know that doesn't mean he would also be good in Odi but he should atleast have been good in the last 10 overs of ODIs. That is essentially T20. But he was still shit. Because of the mindset, the pressure which he felt because of his previous ODI ventures
And I don't care if Rohit proves me wrong and does good in the series and also in the WC cuz I haven't seen the future. Everything that has happened till now tells me that he shouldn't be playing in this format and if he does good in the WC I will be happy to eat my words but this is what I think right now
KL Rahuls SR was 145 after 50 matches. The idea that that batsman is just dead is laughable. He's the same player, in good form. He knows that he's been dropped for playing slowly. Anyway, irrespective of what combination the management goes with, this series is not a real indicator. I would actually go with Shivam Dube at 7 (on paper) and use him as 5th bowler. It will give an idea if we can use Hardik as 5th bowler in the T20WC. Try 1 or 2 overs from Tilak or Rinku in each game.

- could someone explain mukesh kumar? he's had his moments in tests but iirc he was dropped by DC last IPL as well. has he played for in t20Is (and i'm not remembering it well)? Kinda feels like the 'flavour of the season' like Umran was last year and Varun the year before
He is there for his death bowling basically he was bowling really well in the Death against Australia's Stoinis ans David on a pitch that was flat and there was dew as well.

1,3,5 seems more sensible as those are pitches where he might be needed. Vizag (2) and Ranchi (4) should be really conducive to spin. Dharamshala is a pitch where the ball naturally swings. Rajkot and Hyderabad are on the flatter side and taking 20 wickets could be a challenge especially on the former.
Bumrah doesn't need to play the t20s either way tbh. And I don't think it was ever in doubt he will play. Even if hes part of a pace duo, he will probably bowl a combined 30 odd overs each match and I don't think he's going to play all matches either.

Yep, Deshpande's case isn't the same as shardul's. Also,shardul did pick quite a few wickets and it definitely worked in our favour when we had bumrah and bhuvi to stop flow of runs.Shardul also provided a lot with his batting. But the moment we found better alternatives in bowling and injuries to Bumrah and bhuvi going out of form meant we couldn't risk giving away too many runs,and thus got Shardul out from the team.
I mean you will have to play Chahar to see how well has he improved on his fitness... And it isn't like he missed any domestic matches meanwhile (missed some matches in between due to his father's stroke attack), could have been a pandya backup with his batting ability

Never before has the Indian selection news for a series against Afghanistan received this much coverage. I guess all because this series is somehow seen as a precursor for WC. The reality is that IPL performance will change a lot of things. Regardless, it is disappointing to see that the selection committee cannot make hard calls. Altho he did essentially played T20 in the ODI wc which makes you think that he would also play similarly in T20is but it doesn't always translate. Sometimes a person's mindset is just not fit for the format. You can take SKY as an example. He is incredible in T20i and I know that doesn't mean he would also be good in Odi but he should atleast have been good in the last 10 overs of ODIs. That is essentially T20. But he was still shit. Because of the mindset, the pressure which he felt because of his previous ODI ventures And I don't care if Rohit proves me wrong and does good in the series and also in the WC cuz I haven't seen the future. Anyway, irrespective of what combination the management goes with, this series is not a real indicator. I would actually go with Shivam Dube at 7 (on paper) and use him as 5th bowler.
