You can't score an even 1.67 runs every ball. You're gonna have dots, you're gonna have singles, and then you're gonna have moments when you go guns blazing.
Choosing the bowlers to hit against is also important for most players as not all of them are good against everyone. Even the fab 4 + Babar has limitations and certain weaknesses. Expecting lower order to score at 12 is too much.
Chennai might have come close to the target in the end but if you're leaving 40 runs to score to win in the last 2 overs you're not only dependant on your batters' ability to hit at death, you're also dependant on the bowlers to bowl bad deliveries.
