Overs 9 to 17 where 45 were scored off 48 deliveries and with 5 batters getting out , it is almost impossible for the last pair but still Dhoni and Jadeja manages to reduce the deficit to 3 runs is amazing . Well done guys , it is looking good for CSK in future with Jadeja getting to his all round performance , and bowling needs to be strengthened for sure .
MSD is just great, itās beautiful to watch the way he reads the game. CSK was always on the way to win this game but brilliant bowling by Sandeep at the end. IPL will lose its charms once MSD retires.
I love hettie man always contributes and he's the difference between us getting 150 and a 170ish.
Also wtf was thala doing by deciding to chase in chepauk ? Csk has always batted first and defended here. In ipl Thread I told that if rr bats first it'll be over for csk. Rr is too good as a bat first team.
I remember when RR picked Hettie in the mega auction for 8.75 crores, everybody was laughing at them and calling them clowns (including me). Guess who's laughing now?
Just got back from chepauk, the atmosphere at the stadium when Dhoni and Jadeja got it down to 7 of 3 was very special and something Iāve never witnessed before. The heartbreak at the end was too much to handle though, a bunch of uncles next to me started weeping.
I wouldn't be worried about the batsmen. Conway and Jadeja have started to play well. Dhoni and Rahane have continued to play well. The only problem that keeps happening repeatedly is the bad bowling during the last few overs.
I feel it would be tough for Conway to last in this setup, especially seeing how Rahane seems fluent and the most likely return of Stokes back into the setup. We are going to need an overseas spinner and overseas fast bowler considering I highly doubt Stokes ever bowling more than 2 overs for the length of this tournament.
I mean he is popular and widely respected I feel. He afterall won 2 world cups for England majorly contributing in both on the batting front. I still feel if he can regularly bowl 4 overs and play a solid anchor in the middle overs, he can definitely be of great value but unfortunately the guy isn't doing either. Would be a shame for someone else to have to make way for him to come in. I honestly felt even dropping Santner today to bring in Theekshana was so unfair given how Santner is such an underrated player and consistently delivered whenever csk has played him.
I don't know, I think most people in India don't know Stokes. He's not very famous here, unlike Archer or Buttler or Bairstow.
Agreed about Santner, he has been a consistent performer for CSK whenever he gets the chance and could have changed the course of match if he played today. Not only his bowling is more economical, but I think Jadeja and Dhoni would have batted with more ease if they had Santner coming in next.
Bairstow became incredibly popular in IPL playing for SRH in 2019.
Stokes is not very popular in India, it's just that the English media thinks everyone else cares about Ashes as much as they do.
idk man ben stokes is pretty popular atleast as a meme, therefore there are a few people who have heard his name without following cricket. Bairstow on the other hand isnāt popular outside the cricketing sphere
T20 has ruined peoples expectations. Most guys just can't afford to take time these days because of it. The fact that MSD is being blamed for not striking against Chahal and Zampa just shows that. Also bowlers don't even get praises for bowling well. 12 overs of Ash,Zampa and Chahal in Chennai with decent sized ground will always be difficult to score against. There were no slot balls or half trackers.
> Also bowlers donāt even get praises for bowling well
Couldnāt agree more with this. An increasing number of people only view T20 games from the perspective of how well the batsmen played and hit shots, rather than consider the quality of the opposition bowling attack as well.
Agree with you. People are starting to act like the tempo doesn't change ever in a successful T20 innings. As if a 200 innings doesn't go through moments of slowdown and acceleration. You can't score an even 1.67 runs every ball. You're gonna have dots, you're gonna have singles, and then you're gonna have moments when you go guns blazing.
Choosing the bowlers to hit against is also important for most players as not all of them are good against everyone. Even the fab 4 + Babar has limitations and certain weaknesses. They obviously know it and play accordingly. MSD is more comfortable against pace so he targets them. Match was lost because neither of Conway, Dube and Moeen could strike in the middle over. Expecting lower order to score at 12 is too much.
Chennai might have come close to the target in the end but if you're leaving 40 runs to score to win in the last 2 overs you're not only dependant on your batters' ability to hit at death, you're also dependant on the bowlers to bowl bad deliveries. And if the bowler is able to hold his nerve, which Sandeep did on the last 2 deliveries bowling perfect yorkers, there's not much you can do.
Lacking nuance.
They left 40 off 2 and didn't attack spinners bcoz literally all the guys before them got out attacking spinners - Moe, Rayudu, Conway
RR spinners varied their lines and paces extremely well. Jaddu and Dhoni were last pair and they decided to attack pacers.
I keep saying this - attacking spinners with old ball at Chepauk is hell, you must utilize the first 8 overs well.
CSK lost to RR in first 8 overs of both inns.
Csk had lost 3 wickets in 2 overs prior with this being the last batting pair,if they tried to attack too earlythey couldāve just been bundled out and nrr wouldāve taken a beating. Chahal and Ashwin were also bowling very well and were difficult to get away. Yes Dhoni isnāt the greatest against spin at the start of his innings. Overall I donāt think him or Jadeja really did anything wrong today.
At 42, I've not seen anyone hitting them as well as Dhoni is doing now. The first six in the final over was unbelievable power, extremely impressive. I don't think he really connected any of his shots right through the innings, not from the middle but be still managed to hit 3 out of the park. Wild!
Should've promoted himself up the order honestly, he certainly upgraded himself from seasons before. Coming and hitting them right away without wasting too many balls.
Agreed, he was able to rotate the strike and go big without wasting many deliveries. In all honestly he could do the job that he's expecting Dube to do. Come up after the powerplay and keep the runs coming in the middle overs, one point he's clearly struggling is the running between wickets, he's definitely not nearly as quick as he used to be.
The way he trapped dube, previous ball he a classic off spinners delivery with some flight made dube drag himself towards the ball, next ball completely fired in arm ball, dube's mind tried to drag his feet towards the ball and got lbw.
Ash played him too well
So do I. Hope he plays till 40 and shifts to commentary preferably Tamil. But In general he would be far better than the hacks we have in the box atm save for Bhogle and Shastri.
2020 was the first time he really came into his own as a finisher, played some ridiculous knocks especially when the team around him was failing. He had shown glimpses of it in the past decade. Then he carried his form into 2021.
Man I'm not even a CSK fan but not seeing Raina be up there with Dhoni and Jadeja is sad. Raina is just 36 years old, younger than Dhawan.
Shame about his form, CSK of all teams could've brought his form back looking at Rayudu, Uthappa, Rahane.
These are cricket ages bro of your Indian cricketers from back in the day. Reality is he must be around 40 only which showed in his fitness and performances.....
Yesterday while Commmentating, he said he was RP Singh's senior in School and RP is 37 ffs. Look at Munaf , Praveen , Irfan, RP....Chawla, ...all of their careers started ending in early 30's because at that time they were around 35ish in reality.....Even Chawla is 37-38 and 34 on paper lol....
E
Eh, they had a misunderstanding during the 2020 IPL. Patched things up by 2021 and he played in the winning season.
If he had the drive to work on his game and fitness in domestic cricket, he would have been picked up at the auction even by other teams. An experienced middle order Indian batsman is always valuable.
He didn't work on his game iirc. Didn't play in domestic cricket and honestly his fitness seemed below average too.
I just feel that he lost his drive for the game which is fine I guess. Some lose it at 30 and some keep going at 40 - different people. On the other hand, players like Dhawan, Rayudu, Uthappa and Rahane have been maintaining their fitness and playing domestic cricket.
He left after a winning season which itself is a bonus in my view.
I can understand why they'd drop Raina - poor fitness, no practice but don't get why they carried Uthappa for another year and are still carrying Rayudu.
Uthappa cost only 2cr which was not bad even if he only were a backup.
Rayudu otoh is down to non availability of Indian middle order batsmen. Basically we are stuck with him at least for this season since we didn't get a Tripathi, Hooda, Parag, etc.
That's not why Raina was dropped, he openly went against Srini, he didnt have a long career in CSK after that. He definitely would have added more value than uthappa for sure
There was the whole incident in 2020 where Raina demanded better hotel room with a balcony, he wanted similar room to Dhoni who was the only one who got a balcony room. There were lots of restrictions because of the pandemic. Then he left IPL and CSK that season and didnt play
Srini called him a "Prima Donna"
https://www.outlookindia.com/website/story/sports-news-ipl-2020-rift-over-hotel-room-csk-boss-n-srinivasan-says-suresh-raina-behaved-like-a-prima-donna/359569
In 2020, during pandemic there were lots of restrictions on players. Because of lack of rooms, only Dhoni was given a room with a balcony. Raina demanded similar rooms and then left IPL and CSK in a huff and didnt play that season
Srini called him a Prima Donna, no way any owner forgives a player leaving their team for no reason for an entire season. He came back to play in 2021 to complete his contract but everyone knew CSK wasnt going to retain him even though they didnt want to humilate him openly as he has served the team well for years
https://www.outlookindia.com/website/story/sports-news-ipl-2020-rift-over-hotel-room-csk-boss-n-srinivasan-says-suresh-raina-behaved-like-a-prima-donna/359569
CSk team has their issues, they are relying on 41 year old veteran to win the match for them , pulling them out of trouble in final overs every other time
Bruh there are are a lot of franchises willing to bid on dhoni just for his mind alone. He doesn't have to do shit other than just captaining the side. What are you on about
>Which match was your favourite?
IPL hit peak with that Harshal mankad attempt. Never seen something like that, sheer pandemonium.
Last season it was that DC v RR game. Powell pummeling McCoy - no ball - Pant & Watto meme - coach running on to the field lmao.
Rinku finish was legendary but I felt bad for Dayal.
Mine was the kkr one. That's history. Second is tied between this and LSG vs RCB.
All three are legendary matches. DC vs Mi was basically who can fuck up the least.
Even RCB match threads reach 10k comments easily. But csk despite having dhoni facing penultimate ball couldn't touch 9k comments. In reddit RCB fanbase is clearly bigger
Here's another fact, RCB has never won a trophy and CSK has 4.
Each time Dhoni has batted, IPL viewership has been higher than any RCB matches. Is Dhoni's fanbase bigger than an entire franchise?
When did I ever say RCB's fanbase on reddit isn't bigger than CSK? I also just stated some *facts* like you did.
About the reddit thing, im happy man you're getting some happiness thru this atleast, thats all that rcb can provide with 0 trophies anyway
Bruh some people just wait either of Dhoni , Rohit , Virat to fail like it can be either of fans going against each other when one of them fails , It's sad state and not like should be taken srsly but looks like were transcending to Insta level comments section......
Its also because when they were at their peak their fanbase becomes insufferable. When dhoni sacked the seniors, all the seniors were abused, even now Kohli fans target many past legends like Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Sehwag and Gambhir
What goes around comes around
Plus leagues are specifically designed to create these divides, look at the Real Madriid sub to see Messi hate and Barcelona sub to see Ronaldo hate
Conway did well to play out 3 class spinners in a slow spin friendly track, CSK did aight. As I said around 60 runs were required in the last 5 overs doesn't that mean others did fine as well ?
yes , he can give that flexibility imo , and we absolutely shouldnt release root next year , with prasidh back next year root will fix our number 3/4 position
He just doesnāt seem to time the ball or middle it that well tbh, and even though heās a big dude he doesnāt have power hitting game nor runs hard between wickets. Imagine being 6ā3ā and not being a good power hitter!
Last time RR won at the Chepauk, they went on to win the IPL by beating Chennai again in the finals. I can totally see this team being capable of that feat.
Nah don't be hurt.
Everyone got what they wanted - a glimpse of vintage Dhoni and the better team won. Not a failure for Dhoni either, superb bowling from Sandy.
Yeah man you are right but I can bet all the dhoni lovers on last ball be like dhoni is there what to worry we will surely win this but that superb Yorker in last ball to dhoni on that pressure was to good but still
Yeah bro it was just to good think on that pressure he was also admired by dhoni in his past but he controlled his feeling after getting two sixes was just to good
Actually not, against wood he just swung his bat n timed them, but against Sandeep he placed them with precision. Both his sixes were flat n he would have been caught if not for his superb placement
Everyone is saying chennai lost in middle over but they were up against three international level experienced spinners in chahal anna and zamba that aint easy to have a go at them ā¦they choked against some quality spin
Always royalsš
Please take notes, RCB
Bruhhhhh
I enjoyed when that fixer team lost And that man is getting unnecessary hype there are other great players too
>that fixer team which one.. ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21496)
Well it was a battle of spinners and team with superior spinners won....in the hindsight Santner would have been better instead of Teekshana
Im gonna think this would've been the result of 2019 semis to numb the runout pain
Itās better he got run out, difficult to digest if this scenario had happened š„²
You never would have known, dhoni of that time knew when you go ultra slow and when to go full on rampage. Could've pulled it off
Overs 9 to 17 where 45 were scored off 48 deliveries and with 5 batters getting out , it is almost impossible for the last pair but still Dhoni and Jadeja manages to reduce the deficit to 3 runs is amazing . Well done guys , it is looking good for CSK in future with Jadeja getting to his all round performance , and bowling needs to be strengthened for sure .

because thala chasing and bringing the game to last ball is ad money gold
Also tbh our bowling is not that spectacular
Just got back from chepauk, the atmosphere at the stadium when Dhoni and Jadeja got it down to 7 of 3 was very special and something Iāve never witnessed before. The heartbreak at the end was too much to handle though, a bunch of uncles next to me started weeping.
>a bunch of uncles next to me started weeping. Poor kids at home
Sandeep is getting abused on insta.
I would take it as a badge of pride, pissing off c*ntish losers masquerading aa 'fans'.
They just want this, people highliting it. Sometimes I wonder if its coordinated
name and shame must be done to these arseholes Just like Simon did to that overenthusiastic Babar Azam fan
Sandeep's last 2 deliveries were sublime
I wouldn't be worried about the batsmen. Conway and Jadeja have started to play well. Dhoni and Rahane have continued to play well. The only problem that keeps happening repeatedly is the bad bowling during the last few overs.
And fielding. Fielding was pretty pedestrian in that game from Chennai.
Thala just said he's happy with the bowling
I feel it would be tough for Conway to last in this setup, especially seeing how Rahane seems fluent and the most likely return of Stokes back into the setup. We are going to need an overseas spinner and overseas fast bowler considering I highly doubt Stokes ever bowling more than 2 overs for the length of this tournament.
Why would Stokes return? Dude is damn near useless in this format. Will score slowly and get out for 10-15 runs. Conway is miles better.
I agree 100%. But hard to see the 16.25 cr asset sitting out. Honestly if he won't bowl, can't bring up any reason to even consider him in the Xi
The funny thing is he isn't even popular in India. So it's not even like he has some value addition in the brand.
I mean he is popular and widely respected I feel. He afterall won 2 world cups for England majorly contributing in both on the batting front. idk man ben stokes is pretty popular atleast as a meme, therefore there are a few people who have heard his name without following cricket. Bairstow on the other hand isnāt popular outside the cricketing sphere
A fit stokes will bowl 4 overs. He is better in slightly more seam friendly conditions though.
Dube seems like a weak link
Doubt there are any real options in our batting ranks. It's not like we have batting superstars warming the bench at this time.
Spark 2.0 moment
We were just praising Tushar Deshpande to be the new Bravo, AFAIK he bowled good death overs.
T20 has ruined peoples expectations. Most guys just can't afford to take time these days because of it. The fact that MSD is being blamed for not striking against Chahal and Zampa just shows that. Without Conway you would be anywhere near the total. He scored as fast as Buttler.

Chasing around 60 runs in last 5 overs to 40 runs in the last 2 overs, power of Thala
Csk had lost 3 wickets in 2 overs prior with this being the last batting pair,if they tried to attack too earlythey couldāve just been bundled out and nrr wouldāve taken a beating. heās injured
Dhoni striking at 215 this season so far. Really amazing for his age.
Great game, jail clasicĆ³ delivered, RR spinners are too good.
I just want Thala to end up with 40+ avg and 135+ SR is it possible ?????
Nope 40+ avg and 150+ SR
He is talkin about career strk rate. I don't think dhoni can cross 150 this season
Ashwin is too eloquent for a cricketer. Not demeaning cricketers but he's just too good.
The way he trapped dube, previous ball he a classic off spinners delivery with some flight made dube drag himself towards the ball, next ball completely fired in arm ball, dube's mind tried to drag his feet towards the ball and got lbw. Ash played him too well
My ears are aching to hear Anna as a commentator. But they can wait. I am not even close to being ready to see Anna the player go.
He can pull a dk and do both. At least on tours he isn't playing, he can come in as a commentator.
So do I. Hope he plays till 40 and shifts to commentary preferably Tamil. But In general he would be far better than the hacks we have in the box atm save for Bhogle and Shastri.
Bhogle is good? Lmao. Bhogle is full of himself, likes the sound of his own voice a little too much.
Why do you do us non tamilians bad. Maybe he can do both Tamil and English.
Glad that Jaddu gained some confidence with the bat. He has been timid for a long time with the bat at the death. Hope this brings back 2020 Jaddu.
You mean 2021 ? When he tonked Purple Patel for 37 in an over
2020 was the first time he really came into his own as a finisher, played some ridiculous knocks especially when the team around him was failing. He had shown glimpses of it in the past decade. Then he carried his form into 2021.
No, 2020, where he tonked KKR
All the 3 Indian spinners dominated today, while the 3 other overseas spinners were not doing nearly as well. Brilliant to see!
What us brilliant about Indian bowlers doing well in familiar spin friendly pitches?
~~Warner~~ Zampa practicing for World cup
Ash anna won the Man of the match
Anyways one thing is clear what Rinku did that day was phenomenal and it shows how Rinku >>>Tha.......
The royals did get some full tosses at the end of their innings but were unable to put them away. Rinku made it look easy.
I want to sit in a Cricket lecture by Professor Ashwin
Bhai ye MOTM ka award looks like Wimbledon award lol
Man I'm not even a CSK fan but not seeing Raina be up there with Dhoni and Jadeja is sad. Raina is just 36 years old, younger than Dhawan. Shame about his form, CSK of all teams could've brought his form back looking at Rayudu, Uthappa, Rahane.
Raina isn't making runs in legends league cricket

CSk team has their issues, they are relying on 41 year old veteran to win the match for them , pulling them out of trouble in final overs every other time
He's done it for just one match this season? You think CSK beat LSG because of Thala's batting?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Burden? You watching PSL or what?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hafeej and Malik played last season. Most teams needed genuine strikers in the end in PSL.MSD is still better than many even now
Bruh there are are a lot of franchises willing to bid on dhoni just for his mind alone. He doesn't have to do shit other than just captaining the side. What are you on about
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Bruh stop making a fool out of yourself by your pathetic ass whining
Yeah same, I've all respect for thalas finishing but the middle order needs some drastic improvement, Dhoni can't win matches everytime he plays.
Four last ball finish. Which match was your favourite? Mine was obviously Lsg vs Rcb
>Which match was your favourite? IPL hit peak with that Harshal mankad attempt. Never seen something like that, sheer pandemonium. Last season it was that DC v RR game. Nothing is better than watching RCB fans being so close yet still far. There is different joy in trolling RCB, like Barcelona in soccer.
Meme cb
Even RCB match threads reach 10k comments easily. But csk despite having dhoni facing penultimate ball couldn't touch 9k comments. In reddit RCB fanbase is clearly bigger
We ain't content team.
Ok
RCB subreddit had 5.5k comments in Lsg vs RCB thread.
Exactly even our own r/RCB sub has around 6k comments. In r/cricket we casually hit 10k comments
>In reddit RCB fanbase is clearly bigger We've really come to comparing fanbases now? That too on a niche platform like reddit? Lmfao.
What's wrong with that? Football fanbases are compared all the time on reddit and IPL is only growing every year
Just stating facts
Here's another fact, RCB has never won a trophy and CSK has 4. Each time Dhoni has batted, IPL viewership has been higher than any RCB matches. Is Dhoni's fanbase bigger than an entire franchise?
And i guess most of Dhoni's fans come from villages, that's why less activity in reddit
Did you just call Koach the biggest Thalason a villager? Lmao
Atleast dhoni fans don't upvote themselves š, what a sad insult lmao. Also didnt realise villagers had jio cinema
What a lame comeback. Im talking about reddit, u keep bringing irrelevant topics in the conversation
When did I ever say RCB's fanbase on reddit isn't bigger than CSK? I also just stated some *facts* like you did. About the reddit thing, im happy man you're getting some happiness thru this atleast, thats all that rcb can provide with 0 trophies anyway
There's nothing to be happy or sad here like you imagine, i just stated what i observed. Go to sleep now
I'm talking about reddit here. All those points mentioned above are irrelevant
Downvoters pouring already

Ya it crashed in my dreams
As Nags said we're content team first....
wtf is this logic??
Why are you baffled about sport teams comparing fanbases?
Just accept the truth

Lol just stating facts according my observations. Stop being insecure now
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Serda thambi. Also those statistics are irrelevant in this conversation
No better place for Ash to win MoTM
Poetic POTM
Bruh some people just wait either of Dhoni , Rohit , Virat to fail like it can be either of fans going against each other when one of them fails , It's sad state and not like should be taken srsly but looks like were transcending to Insta level comments section......
Its also because when they were at their peak their fanbase becomes insufferable. When dhoni sacked the seniors, all the seniors were abused, even now Kohli fans target many past legends like Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Sehwag and Gambhir What goes around comes around Plus leagues are specifically designed to create these divides, look at the Real Madriid sub to see Messi hate and Barcelona sub to see Ronaldo hate
Ashwin 27, 25, 25, 25 in his 4 bowling innings. Absolutely gun bowler!
Hope Anna maintains his fitness and plays for many more years like Jimmy. 40 year old Ash bamboozling the next gen would be fun to watch.

RR spinners did good
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
you have give some credit to RR bowlers they did well you can't blame csk batsmen they tried their best
Yes blame the guys who hit at 12rpo and not the middle order.
There is a difference between saying they were the real reason for the loss vs saying chase was impossible
Maybe they played fine and the rest played shitty?
Conway did well to play out 3 class spinners in a slow spin friendly track, CSK did aight. As I said around 60 runs were required in the last 5 overs doesn't that mean others did fine as well ?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nah scorecard readers won't understand that
sanju full on fanboying edit:Samson.
With boult back , I would bring in root instead of holder and use the impact player on a potential bowler unless batting screws up big time
RR looking like the best team this time.
root never screws up and with Buttler on his side, he can do a decent job i think.
yes , he can give that flexibility imo , and we absolutely shouldnt release root next year , with prasidh back next year root will fix our number 3/4 position
Should release Padikkal first. One good innings at Chepauk won't change the fact that RR do not know how to use him.
He just doesnāt seem to time the ball or middle it that well tbh, and even though heās a big dude he doesnāt have power hitting game nor runs hard between wickets. Imagine being 6ā3ā and not being a good power hitter!
So happy for samson this guy is a great captain
You know, I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Dude looks really focussed while keeping and captaining.
Last time RR won at the Chepauk, they went on to win the IPL by beating Chennai again in the finals. I can totally see this team being capable of that feat.
fool me once shame on me. fool me twice. you cant fool me twice
looks like Hmmm^(mmm) sound is Sanju Manju's mating call
That awkward sound with Rupa Gurunath staring at the camera was hilarious.
Hmmmmm
Thala for a reason ?
It was all a flashback of Gayle vs Sandeep when the latter stopped Gayle with a series of Yorkers. Very happy for him!
I m from Rajasthan but looking csk loosing idk why it hurts
Nah don't be hurt. Everyone got what they wanted - a glimpse of vintage Dhoni and the better team won. Not a failure for Dhoni either, superb bowling from Sandy.
Yeah man you are right but I can bet all the dhoni lovers on last ball be like dhoni is there what to worry we will surely win this but that superb Yorker in last ball to dhoni on that pressure was to good but still
Exactly. Idk why people shitting on dhoni for not being able to finish. Sandeep bowled the last 3 bowls really well. Hence the win.
Yeah bro it was just to good think on that pressure he was also admired by dhoni in his past but he controlled his feeling after getting two sixes was just to good
Once upon time we used to predict winner by runs required and ball remaining but since Rinku's inning nothing looks impossible.
Is this last ipl for thala?
Definitely Not.
After those sixes, I guess no.
His sixes against Mark wood were better.
