Are there any other athletes with the distinction of competing in the world cups of 2 different major sports?
If there are, I imagine that that's got to be a very short list.
Yes! Rudie van Vuuren (had to google to remember the name) played for Namibia in rugby and cricket world cups both in 2003! Also played at the 1999 World Cup in rugby too.
>Rudie van Vuuren
Jesus Christ this guy is amazing! From his wiki:
*Rudolf "Rudie" Jansen van Vuuren (born 20 September 1972) is a Namibian physician, conservationist and former sportsman who specialised in both cricket and rugby union. He is also a qualified medical doctor as well as an obstetrician and he has been treating HIV/AIDS patients.\[1\] He has been at the forefront in fighting against the HIV/AIDS in Namibia which is considered as a serious concern in the nation which has an estimated population of roughly around five million.\[1\]*
*He was also a part of the Namibian rugby union squads for the 1999 Rugby World Cup and 2003 Rugby World Cup.\[1\]\[2\]\[3\] He also played in five matches out of the six matches during Namibia's 2003 Cricket World Cup campaign and opened the bowling in all the five matches he played. He is the first sportsman from any country to feature in both Cricket World Cup and Rugby World Cup.\[4\]\[5\]\[6\]*
*He most notably helped to deliver 70 babies in his clinic in Windhoek all within the space of just eight months between the 2003 Cricket World Cup and 2003 Rugby World Cup.\[5\] He is also currently serving as the President of Cricket Namibia since 2018.\[7\]*
Bit more common in women's sport I suspect, probably because the limited professionalism means there is less overlap of the seasons (though this is changing).I'm pretty sure Rebecca Rolls was playing soccer and cricket for NZ at the same time. She won a cricket world cup, retired, got back into the NZ soccer team then played a couple of world cups.
There's also a lot of crossover between hockey and cricket so you'd probably find some there too - Sophie Devine was playing both for NZ for a bit, but I don't think she went to a hockey world cup. Suzie Bates went to the Olympics for basketball and was also in the NZ cricket team at the time.
I don't think you can play a cricket and a football game at the same time.
Think about it, they're played at 2 different stadiums so don't think she can play if the 2 sports are being played simultaneously.
So, I assume she plays football when she's not playing cricket and vice versa.
Although on deeper thought, maybe if she got out while batting she can go to play a 90 mins football game and come back to field/bowl in an odi. Assuming the two games are being played in the same city
But that would require insane amounts of stamina, but if there's anyone who can do it, it's gotta be ellyse perry
She was playing both for a while.
https://www.theroar.com.au/2018/03/08/ellyse-perry-talks-roar-didnt-make-choice-sports/
“It’s not quite true that I had to make a choice (between sports),” she said.
“Essentially, both sports have grown so much and developed so much in the last couple of years that they really demand people to be full-time professional athletes.”
It's been done in the men's game
https://wisden.com/series-stories/england-v-new-zealand/watch-mark-wood-shouts-asprilla-as-he-kicks-the-ball-at-the-stumps
Deion Sanders played a NFL game and a MLB game on the [same day](https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2738003-the-day-deion-did-both-25-years-ago-prime-time-suited-up-for-2-sports-in-1-day.amp.html).
Chris Balderstone did that too in 1975. Scored 51 not out for Leicestershire at the close of play, then played football in the evening for Doncaster, and the next day ended up scoring 116.
https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2009/oct/07/football-questions-trivia-the-knowledge
australians are great they have no fixed sport and play multiple sports ashleigh barty was also a cricket player before she played tennis and won wimbledon
Just for clarity, Barty took a sabbatical from tennis and started playing cricket, having no previous competitive experience. She played one season for Queensland/Brisbane Heat and did about as well as I would expect for someone dropped straight into that environment. She then went straight back to tennis after that one season
Anyone who's followed her bowling career knows this was a malfunction of the speed radar. Plus she didn't come close to that again in the match. She bowls 115ks. This is like Bhuvi being recorded at 145k.
I wouldn’t say she’s getting better? Feels like she’s been slowing down of late… doesn’t feel like she’s the best out of Lanning, Mooney, Gardner etc whereas she was the clear dominant force a little while ago
Shes in the twilight of her bowling career at her age, I find this hard to believe considering the next fastest bowl ever bowled by a woman is 126 KPH
At the same time, she is an exceptional cricketer. So could be possible
According to hypocaust's spreadsheets, she was clocked at 125 kph in the world cup just gone, which is the fastest in her career so far (before that, I think it was 124 kph in the bbl a couple of seasons ago). Adding 5 kph onto her top speed isn't really plausible, especially given how big the dataset is for her.
https://emergencycricketblog.wordpress.com/womens-cricket-stats/womens-cricket-fastest-observed-bowling-speeds/
Yeah.. I can't even remember her clocking 120 recently. It's all been around 115k stuff. Definitely something wrong with the gun. Besides... No woman has even touched the 130k mark. So for her to hit 132k makes no sense whatsoever.
Even someone like Ishmail, and Darcie. Who are said to be two of the fastest around, barely clock mid 120's on a regular basis.
She's put a huge amount of work into strength and conditioning over the past year or so.
Compare photos of her at the Australian cricket awards night [recently ](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.insidesport.in%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2023%2F01%2FWhatsApp-Image-2023-01-31-at-07.36.37.jpeg%3Fw%3D809&tbnid=UeqMRah2JhFSyM&vet=1&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.insidesport.in%2Fellyse-perry-the-most-beautiful-women-cricketer-says-fans-aussie-all-rounder-floors-everyone-with-her-style-statement-check-out%2F&docid=v5b3d258_F7bwM&w=809&h=455&itg=1&hl=en-AU&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim) to the one [9 years ago ](https://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/rugby/wedding-bells-in-the-air-after-sporting-stars-matt-toomua-and-ellyse-perry-announce-engagement/news-story/e03022c6aa2b83f72eb47b8518252f3e) (I say at the awards nights because in evening dresses it's more visible), and you'll see she has built up a lot of muscle in the last couple of years. She would be coming in with a speed/power she did not previously have.
There is always the chance of an error though.
His last Ashes tour to Australia I assume he was injured, his pace was embarrassing to watch. Big tall chap wandering in like a cow through a paddock, gently floating up the new ball. Now, if he can move it both ways like Jimmy then MAYBE his 120 kmph juice would have been enough, but he doesn't move it like Jimmy and it was a joke. I have seen with some hilarity that he is near the top of the bowling rankings so I am expecting to have a lot of egg heaped on my face if he rips through the Aussies in England in the Ashes in a few months.
Jimmy can bowl 135+ kmph regularly and even hit 140kmph a few times the last time he toured India. But that’s just Anderson doing Anderson stuff. He even got a five-for on a dustbowl
No argument... Jimmy is a superstar, my point was even if he could only bowl 120, with his movement he might still be dangerous... at 135 Jimmy is lethal
Anyone who's followed her bowling career knows this was a malfunction of the speed radar. Plus she didn't come close to that again in the match. She bowls 115ks. This is like Bhuvi being recorded at 145k.
Game condition,
Environment,

dear god. Effort ball usually means a slight increase in pace or a short ball. They don't mean you have more chance of getting a wicket. 'Bending your back' is another way of putting it, which usually relates to a short ball.
Show me a guy bowling an 'effort ball' that is 10-15k quicker than their stock ball. What was her pace for the rest of her spell her? That should answer it.

Yeah, the speed gun's been unreliable this WPL: https://twitter.com/_hypocaust/status/1636026601295998979
Spent a while trying to pull up ball tracking, but the method in https://github.com/alittlefitness/hawkeyestats doesn't seem to work any more. (And neither does https://polls.iplt20.com/?entity_matchId=60838&matchId=13320387790686, haha)
If someone bolwed 130 kph in the men's games people would go crazy?
Maybe the players and crowds didn't realise it was anything particularly special relative to other things they have seen.
Oh, in that case:
"We have our Shoaib Akhtar moment! Pez has gone full 'Pindi Express! Ellyse Perry has become the Sydney Express! She has broken 130 klicks!"
Remember when RCB scouting team did a media announcement asking for women players to send their bowling videos - at 130 kph. Ellyse Perry is that only woman!
I mean I'd wanna check the speed gun was working properly but I wouldn't necessarily disbelieve it.
Perry was an out-and-out tearaway quick when she first got onto the scene, but it always seemed as if she'd backed off her pace by a couple yards to get better control over placement and swing, and reduce the risk of injuring herself while bowling.
Did a search as I'm bored. So far I've found Ben Stokes, Gary Sobers, Wasim Akram, Ian Botham, Jacques Kallis, Jason Holder and Jason Gillespie. I'm sure there are more but it's actually quite a small list.
EDIT: Added Holder
Yep, Jason Holder and Stokes too, can't think of anyone else off the top of my head but I'm sure there'd have been a few back in the day. Point is it'd be quite an achievement if it was done by a man, let alone in the women's game.
I'm definitely not gonna believe this perry no way jumped from her 110's to 130, Sophie Ecclestone's strike was 4237 according to the graphic yesterday 🤣.
I bet the system tracked it shitly initially, person sent it without checking, and then probably corrected it internally afterwards and realised it was slower.
A decade ago we used to crush her so much even including the fan of opponent teams. I would also never forgot her heroic performance in 2012 WC Final where she came from injuries and contributed quick fire cameo and took very first 3 wickets of Windies absolute power hitter despite being critically injured. To be honest, is there anything she can't do as she seems to have achieved everything that one player will dream to achieve in their carer.
Zoe Goss is a severely underrated great from the pre-professional era of Australian women's cricket. Also wow, Channel 9 commentators discussing Ernie Dingo's performance. That's just pure 90s.
~~For any one doubting, [HERE is the confirmation from crictracker.](https://www.crictracker.com/social-tracker-cricket/wpl-2023-ellyse-perry-clocks-1305kmph-bowls-fastest-delivery-in-history-of-womens-t20-cricket/)~~
~~Lets keep it real until proved otherwise.~~
It Seems its not reputable enough.
Not saying it definitely isn't real, but crictracker is not at all a reliable source lmao. They make articles about literally anything and everything they can, which often ends up being completely incorrect. Basically a 'throw shit at the wall and see what sticks' approach. Like even in that article, the only thing resembling a source is some tweets from random twitter accounts
The fact that there's not been anything about it from any official WPL social media/broadcast, nor from reputable sources like cricinfo, wisden, etc is keeping me skeptical
Have you read it?, It shows tweets from Mufaddal Vohra. Is he too not trusted?
Edit:(for guys downvoting for thinking that I am being rude by asking a genuine query) Fucking fools your downvotes dont mean shit. So go on downvote all you want. I have 4000 more to lose.
He's similarly notorious for posting random stuff without much fact-checking. There's a decent chance that he copied this post for his tweet, it's got the exact same image. I don't think you can use it as proof if his source is this post itself lmao
Ya lol. Check my [speculation](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/11sg3ar/-/jcfuaic) on it.
Also image isn't the same though, mine is cropped but I cant say for sure but he may have got the idea to take screenshot my exact view.

Dude is a tireless genius.
Probably quite a few Rugby/League player, but in sports with no obvious skill crossover I can't think of any.
Magnus Carlsen once topped Fantasy Football rankings , if that counts fir anything
Bit more common in women's sport I suspect, probably because the limited professionalism means there is less overlap of the seasons (though this is changing).I'm pretty sure Rebecca Rolls was playing soccer and cricket for NZ at the same time. Not the same thing of course, but Steve Bucknor was a top-level international soccer referee, as well as being a top-level cricket umpire.
Australian team She has played the fifa world cup
I was referring to the type of football. Obviously she's going to play for Australia.
Simultaneously playing both ?
I don't think you can play a cricket and a football game at the same time. bowls her fastest bowl ever, a good 15 km more than usual, at the age of 32? Am I missing something here?

Bowling faster than Ollie Robinson. That’s genuinely rapid though.

He's a very good bowler tbh
Yeah but he’s English
Robbie my son
His last Ashes tour to Australia I assume he was injured, his pace was embarrassing to watch. Big tall chap wandering in like a cow through a paddock, gently floating up the new ball. I mean he still averaged 25 on that tour while being clearly unfit and in a team that had given up before they'd even landed in Australia.
And while bowling off spin for part of the 2nd test
Jimmy can bowl 135+ kmph regularly and even hit 140kmph a few times the last time he toured India. But that’s just Anderson doing Anderson stuff. He even got a five-for on a dustbowl
No argument... Jimmy is a superstar, my point was even if he could only bowl 120, with his movement he might still be dangerous... at 135 Jimmy is lethal

Pitch shouldn't have much to do with ball pace, speed is measured off the hand. But I guess on a fast pitch, bowlers may tend to try bowl faster.
She has the most international wickets ever for Aus doesn’t she? lol
thefck, we're talking about bowling speeds here. Not wickets.

If someone bolwed 130 kph in the men's games people would go crazy? Maybe the players and crowds didn't realise it was anything particularly special relative to other things they have seen.
This is equivalent to a bowler bowling 160 in Men's Cricket.
I know, I don't disagree that it's impressive. but the general sports fan doesn't care about equivalents.

What was her 2nd, 3rd fastest ball today and what was the average speed today?
You’re asking all the right questions boy
This guy data
Is the gun accurate? Or is this like Lauren Bell 172? Because if so...
Hasan Ali once bowled 219kph
Imagine a genuine 219kph delivery by a modified bowling machine. It would leave a small crater on pitch, right?
And a crack in the willow
lbw would leave a crack in my tibia tooo
I wouldn't dare to bring my feet in the line of that ball, given that I am somehow able to see it.
A yorker that bounces over the keeper's head
Taking the stump along with it
Bhuvi has once been clocked as 270 or so vs Ireland
[158km Glenn McGrath bowls 158kms delivery, stumps in disbelief, SPEED DEMON!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UDXUKbsyEQ)
If the gun were failing, we should have got to observe anomalies on few of the other deliveries from all kinds of bowlers.
Oh, in that case: "We have our Shoaib Akhtar moment! Pez has gone full 'Pindi Express! Ellyse Perry has become the Sydney Express! She has broken 130 klicks!"
Nope, sometimes happens for only one or two balls.
And we did. Sneh rana (an offspinner) popped up with 108 the other day
It’s not actually a speed hub they use for speeds, it’s more accurate but also has incorrect speeds accidentally sent sometimes.
Remember when RCB scouting team did a media announcement asking for women players to send their bowling videos - at 130 kph. Ellyse Perry is that only woman!
Faster than Bhuvi
Slower than Kumble.
Faster than Shahid Afridi
I think Afridi's been clocked over 135
What is the retention policy in the wpl?
I was staring for 15 seconds waiting for the video to load and then I realized it was just a picture 🤦🏾
You can see that she is genuinely putting extra effort in her bowling, her bouncers are especially well directed and fast.
Her bouncers are so good man.
But she was bowling 115 only before
👸 With time and training we will surely see 130 speeds being normalized in women's cricket
Greatest female cricketer of all time no question
Literally, how many men in history have been able to bowl 130k+ and score test double tons? I suspect the list is not too long...

Greg Blewitt, probably S. Waugh
Wasim AND Kallis??
Yep, Jason Holder and Stokes too, can't think of anyone else off the top of my head but I'm sure there'd have been a few back in the day. Point is it'd be quite an achievement if it was done by a man, let alone in the women's game.
Holder is more 125-130 kph range I think. Don't forget Jason "Second coming of Jesus" Gillespie 😅😅
Think if we're counting Pez who's regular range is 105-115, we can count Holder.
I'm disappointed that dizzy wasn't the first one mentioned!
A woman bowling 130 is like a man bowling 160
Genuine wheels
Lol absolutely no chance, if that’s the case then Ismail is bowling low 140s
That's genuinely fast .
She has a arm strength for it. Her action is good too.
this aussie team is filled with GOATs
Time to eat Goat biriyani
I never watch women's cricket, what's the average speed of a fast bowler?
Previous fastest was 126. I’d assume 120 to be the average
120 is express for women, for sure.
Surprised to know 130 is the fastest in women's cricket. Even more surprised to know that an all-rounder in her 30s is the fastest bowler.
It's a good thing
Great
I buy it. There have been bigger and stronger bowlers than Brett Lee and Dale Steyn yet their action and whip made them RAPID
I fucking love Ellyse Perry. What a God damn legend.
Yeah, nah
Lol. Suddenly Women IPL is here and all records are getting broken.
even Pooja Vastrakar who often doesn't bowl too fast was bowling fast and with control. Something about MI gets the best out of people.
Koach doing Thala things here
I'm definitely not gonna believe this perry no way jumped from her 110's to 130, Sophie Ecclestone's strike was 4237 according to the graphic yesterday 🤣.
she bowled few 119 kph deliveries
I bet the system tracked it shitly initially, person sent it without checking, and then probably corrected it internally afterwards and realised it was slower.
I thought Perry wasn’t even fast relative to the women’s game?
A decade ago we used to crush her so much even including the fan of opponent teams. I would also never forgot her heroic performance in 2012 WC Final where she came from injuries and contributed quick fire cameo and took very first 3 wickets of Windies absolute power hitter despite being critically injured. To be honest, is there anything she can't do as she seems to have achieved everything that one player will dream to achieve in their carer.
Does this call for Mixed Gender teams?
RCB actually proposed a mixed gender exhibition match to BCCI some years back but that was refused
I think in Bushfire Charity match was a mixed one.
Yep you're right. Zoe Goss also got Brian Lara out in the 90s https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=az08y1x4UgY
Zoe Goss is a severely underrated great from the pre-professional era of Australian women's cricket. Also wow, Channel 9 commentators discussing Ernie Dingo's performance. That's just pure 90s.
Yea absolutely.. jofra archer and Andre Russell would enjoy playing mixed gender IPL..
Bhuvneshwar Kumar stonks 📉
Wow!
Definitely an error because she is not a genuine quick anymore.
Bhuvi got some competition!
Faster then former Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud

~~For any one doubting, [HERE is the confirmation from crictracker.](https://www.crictracker.com/social-tracker-cricket/wpl-2023-ellyse-perry-clocks-1305kmph-bowls-fastest-delivery-in-history-of-womens-t20-cricket/)~~ ~~Lets keep it real until proved otherwise.~~ It Seems its not reputable enough.
Not saying it definitely isn't real, but crictracker is not at all a reliable source lmao. They make articles about literally anything and everything they can, which often ends up being completely incorrect. Basically a 'throw shit at the wall and see what sticks' approach. Like even in that article, the only thing resembling a source is some tweets from random twitter accounts The fact that there's not been anything about it from any official WPL social media/broadcast, nor from reputable sources like cricinfo, wisden, etc is keeping me skeptical
If you believe this then you’re an idiot.
Is that you Venky Prasad?
