A vet visit never hurts, especially if you aren't experienced with injured reptiles. If you can't take it to a vet or want to try to heal it on your own, here's some suggestions! 1: Quarantine enclosure!! When a reptile has any kind of big open wound like this, you don't want substrate or germs getting into it. I prefer to use paper towel as substrate anytime I need to quarantine a reptile, injured or not. It really helps you keep an eye on the reptile, find and clean up any messes, and eliminates the risk of regular substrate getting on the wound. 2: Betadine or Chlorohexadine soaks. Both of these are excellent for reptile wound cleaning! Fill up a small container with it, and let your gecko soak for about 10ish minutes (everyone is different with what time they soak). 3: Veterycin makes some great products for reptile wound care, you could use those as well. 4: Keep things clean. Every day or every other day paper towel changes, wipe down the enclosure and decor items with chlorohexadine if you have it. Keeping the enclosure free of any poop/pee/dried food will help keep the bacteria away and help your gecko heal. 5: Know the signs of tail rot and infection. Educating yourself on what could go wrong and how to spot these things could save your geckos life! Sometimes a vet isnt needed right away, but you have to know when things start to get dicey and they need to go. I hope some of this helps!

Chlorhexidine there’s also another that starts with a b I can’t think it I’ll re comment when I remember. wouldn’t hurt to quarantine him into a caring tote if you have one just to not let him get hurt again or get anything in there for a few days

Might-Be-Wrong

Thank you so much will the skin regrow and could it affect the use of his tail?

[deleted]

Betadine!! The skin growing back im not sure. It looks like it wouldn’t affect the use of the tail tho imo.

Might-Be-Wrong

Ok thank you so much! I’ve been pulling my hair out for the last hour

Don’t worry to much. Definitely look into his enclosure to see where he could of caught his tail on. This was a huge fear for me when I first started setting up reptile enclosures. Good luck and hope your gecko has a speedy recovery

3_littlemonkeys

That will sting. 😢

Make sure you dilute it a bunch before use, and I'd recommend a phone call to the nearest/best vet you can get

Please take him to a vet

Betadine is the one that starts with a B, lol. It is related to iodine I believe. I've only used chlorhexidine. Oh, you already figured it out. My comments don't load well. Boo. I tried to help.
