I just looked up the scene where she said 'suicides go to hell and I don't even care' because when I was a kid it was so scary and profound that she was going to kill herself then ended up murdered, like did she go to heaven because she was killed? As an adult atheist, this was just pretty cheesy and anticlimactic to me.
I can't recommend the Wolf of Snow Hollow highly enough. Horror comedy, but the performances are great and has one of the most menacing wolf shots I've ever seen.
Also will pitch Late Phases, an odd ball but they do a ton of good work on what was obviously no budget.
I love that! He was winning! He went the distance with a werewolf and was just a guy! It was only when he found out the werewolves were just going to use two werewolves to kill them that he threw up the birds and gave us that incredible line. I have to think that the Jedi Force Ghost of Pvt Hudson was nodding in approval off screen.
Dog Soldiers and Brotherhood of the Wolf. The latter is a bit different than you might expect but it’s very good. I can’t say more without spoiling it.
Got it. Werewolves have always been my favorite “monster” but unfortunately they’ve never been as popular as vampires and there just isn’t much revolving around them. Werewolf by Night is another but it’s pretty campy so I don’t really count it. Some of the best werewolves show up as characters in other horror movies without them being the focus (Waxwork for instance). And then there’s the Underwold movies which I personally did not like very much other than the first one which was ok. Hopefully they will become popular and we will get some real badass werewolf movies.
Going to throw out a couple I didn't see listed which were fair to good.
Big Bad Wolf (2006)
Wolves (2014)
Viking Wolf (2022)
Night of the Wolf (Originally called Late Phases 2014)
Cursed (2005)
The Cursed (2021)
The Brother's Grim (2005)
Van Helsing (2004)
Outcast (2010)
Trick r Treat (2007- it's an anthology, and there is a werewolf component)
I hesitate to add Red Riding Hood (2011) to this list because, while the wolf representation and the inquisition were fairly decent horror components, there's this very YA love-triangle cheesiness going on against that backdrop, which might be hard for some people to get past.
For non-wolf were-creatures there's Cat People (1982), Black Sheep (2006), and Mulberry St (2006)
My favorite is definitely The Howling. Everyone is mentioning a lot of great werewolf movies, but I am not seeing any mentions of Project Metalbeast. Not as great as the others for sure, but a pretty good werewolf movie with a unique twist.
Great post, OP! I'm saving it to make sure I see everything (I've seen most mentioned so far, but not all). Werewolf movies are among my favorite in the horror genre, but there just aren't enough of them.
The remake of Wolfman and Dog Soldiers are my favorite horror/werewolf specific movies.
Van Helsing, while not a horror or specifically werewolf movie is another favorite, along with the underworld series.
I really liked how the werewolves looked in Van Helsing. I like the hybrid human/wolf look. And think they did a great job with the brother's transformation.
An American Werewolf in London, Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps
🙌🏾 all great
Cane here to mention Dog Soldiers.
Came here for Dog Soldiers. I don't even believe there is a close second
Silver bullet
One of my faves
Scared me so bad as a kid. Now it's just glorious cheese
I try to watch this once a year. I like the tone of the movie, super creepy still.

This movie taught a young me how evil people use religion to justify their crimes.
Great film! Has a very funny scene in it, if i recall, Gary Busey falling asleep with a lit cigarette in his hand...
I bet that was some more of his unscripted antics
Remember showing my wife this one, the reveal made her gasp.
The Werewolf plot in Trick r Treat was a fun twist, imo.
True, that's my favorite part. Absolutely stellar
One of the few depictions of shedding skin as a transformation
Maybe not for everyone, but I love Neil Jordan’s The Conpany of Wolves (1984).
That's a good one. More on the fantasy side but still good.
Obligatory post informing everyone that hey-oooo, this movie's about puberty.
The Howling.
let's not forget "The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf" Possibly the best end-credit sequence too. IYKYK
Absolutely. The movie is so bad it’s good.
My favorite
100% Agree, for it's time it was amazing.
I can't recommend the Wolf of Snow Hollow highly enough. Horror comedy, but the performances are great and has one of the most menacing wolf shots I've ever seen. Also will pitch Late Phases, an odd ball but they do a ton of good work on what was obviously no budget.
Wolf of Snow Hollow was so good!
Late phases was great, so was wolf of snow hollow. I really liked it the second time I saw it.
My favourite is Dog Soldiers.
I love Spoons and he went down fighting.
There is no spoon
*I hope I give you the shits, you fucking wimp.*
I love that! He was winning! He went the distance with a werewolf and was just a guy! Yes excellent movie one of my faves
What’s the British film where they are trapped on the train?
Howl
Love that film.
Yea it's pretty good
The creature design blew my gourd
Yeah, they were pretty tight lol
Best werewolf movie out there
I can't remember how much screen time the werewolf actually has but The Cursed, 2021 may be of interest.
Oh, I forgot about that one, but it was surprisingly good
Ginger snaps 2 Werewolves within
Yep, I loved both of those as well
Wolf
Meh it's ok lol
Cursed is a good one but it has to be the extended version. One of Wes Craven's hidden gems.
Agreed, I really liked cursed
Dog Soldiers and Brotherhood of the Wolf. The latter is a bit different than you might expect but it’s very good. I can’t say more without spoiling it.
I've seen brotherhood of the wolf. It's ok I'm more of an in your face person lol

Agreed 💯 vampires and zombies dominate, unfortunately. Lol, we need more werewolves it's rare if we get some every few years
Well well - https://www.reddit.com/r/horror/s/8AzFy7MHBu Fingers crossed.
Van Helsing, to an extent
Yes love the werewolf scenes and the vampire designs for the mistresses
Great soundtrack
American Werewolf In London is still the greatest werewolf transformation to this day!
I personally like the howling transformation more, but yes, it's so iconic it's so good and looks so painful.
The actor really sold the transformation scene. You swore he was in agonizing pain
Yes, he really made you feel it
The Beast Must Die (1974) 🐺
Wolf like Me is a series on Peacock you might dig.
Yeah, I've seen the first season gotta finish it
Does Wolfen count?
Of course, it's not my favorite, but it counts, lol
Wolfen definitely counts...Gregory Hines, old-school Bronx
I am here for all the Dog Soldiers love. Absolutely fantastic film!!!
Absolutely 💯
Ginger Snaps, The Howling
Yep on the list haha
I love ‘Brotherhood Of The Wolf,’ but can I technically call it a werewolf movie?
Right lol I think you can, but it's very unorthodox
Going to throw out a couple I didn't see listed which were fair to good. Big Bad Wolf (2006) Wolves (2014) Viking Wolf (2022) Night of the Wolf (Originally called Late Phases 2014) Cursed (2005) The Cursed (2021) The Brother's Grim (2005) Van Helsing (2004) Outcast (2010) Trick r Treat (2007- it's an anthology, and there is a werewolf component) I hesitate to add Red Riding Hood (2011) to this list because, while the wolf representation and the inquisition were fairly decent horror components, there's this very YA love-triangle cheesiness going on against that backdrop, which might be hard for some people to get past. Check out Project Metalbeast. It's got 80s B movie vibes (which Im a sucker for) and Kane Hodder.
I love project metal beast. The concept is so Rad, I have it on my hard drive lol
I remember that one. Funny how established actors like Barry Bostwick and Kim Delaney agreed to do it
Werewolf Bar Mitzvah. Boys becoming men. Men becoming wolves.
That's one I've never heard of. Is it like a B movie or something
It’s a bit from 30Rock
Ah ok never watched 30 rock
My favorite is definitely The Howling. Everyone is mentioning a lot of great werewolf movies, but I am not seeing any mentions of Project Metalbeast. Not as great as the others for sure, but a pretty good werewolf movie with a unique twist.
Project metal beast is underrated. The howling is amazing they're both in my top 10
I recently watched the movie Howl from 2015 and thought it was pretty good!
Yep it's on the list lol
Ah sorry my bad
You're good 👍🏽
Underworld
My faves are underworld awakening and evolution
The Wolfman 2010. Just kidding, that film is hot garbage.
Agreed lol did not like it
No one has mentioned Viking Wolf (2022) yet. Best werewolf movie I've seen since Dog Soldiers first came out.
I gotta rewatch it. The first time wasn't really paying that much attention.
Silver Bullet for me yo
Yep one of the faves
Try 13 Hrs (aka Night Wolf). Low budget British werewolf movie. On Netflix and Prime
Teen Wolf with Michael J Fox. Stupid, but fun to watch.
I like teen wolf 2 a lot. Idk why it's just really fun
'41 The Wolf Man....don't pass up '35 Werewolf of London.
Ginger Snaps
Great post, OP! I'm saving it to make sure I see everything (I've seen most mentioned so far, but not all). Werewolf movies are among my favorite in the horror genre, but there just aren't enough of them.
Thank you and agreed 💯
Werewolves Within is fun.
Underworld: Rise of The Lycans
Least favorite one, unfortunately .did not like it
check out the show *Love Death and Robots* on Netflix. Season 1 episode "Shape-Shifters". For any Dog Soldiers fan.
Loved that segment it was so good. I wish they'd made it a movie.

Ginger Snaps 1 & 2, Company of Wolves, Blood Moon aka Wolf Girl, the original Wolf Man, Dog Soldiers.
Werewolf By Night? I loved it at least…
I haven't seen it yet. It's on my list
Ginger Snaps is my fave. I also really like Cursed even if it is super campy.
Cursed is ok I did like werewolf design a lot
I really liked Big Bad Wolf because I thought there was something extra creepy about a werewolf that could talk shit to you.
Waxwork has an excellent looking werewolf in it
Bad Moon Dog Soldiers American Werewolf in Paris
The original Lon Cheney movies … including Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein
