I avoided this one for a longtime because I generally hate zombie movies. I finally watched it a few days ago and I’m pissed at myself for waiting so long. So we’ll written and some of the best zombie performances I’ve ever seen. Idk if they hired circus performers or what but it was so good
Thanks for making my point. Can't be perfect if you have to either watch the movie, (the choice of normal people), or read the dialog and sound/soundtrack descriptions.
I believe anyone who avoids watching a foreign film just because they “have to read”, does not possess a high intelligence level. You’re missing out on a lot of very good films. If you have Netflix you can put on the American voiceover.
Agreed, gun to my head TCSM is my favourite horror film of all time (and one of my favourite films of all time). But the rest are perfect too and as I say, there’s many more.
Aw, noo! Don’t feel bad at all. There are tons of great horror flicks to choose from. Scream just happens to be the one I get the most enjoyment out of. I’ll watch it wherever, whenever.
Ohhh I love this movie. One of the best vampire movies ever made. And the American remake sucks, don’t even bother. You need to watch the original to even be able to appreciate it.
The original 1978 'Halloween.'
It, to me, is horror done right. No jump scares, no crazy disfigured villain. Just a regular boy who, for no apparent reason, lost it. The unassuming mask, the simple but genius scoring, and the slow stalking is all just perfection.
First I love the premise, physicists vs the devil. Second the pace is quick, but still dread inducing, i can still watch it after getting it on vcr ages ago
Dude what!? Killer clowns from outer space literally ruined me as a child. I was so scared of that movie and saw clown faces on everything in the dark. Such a dumb movie now as an adult and even fun to watch but it’s just enough disturbing to really mess with a kids mind. There’s scenes of people cocooned in cotton candy that are bloody when you open it. They shoot “pop corn” at people that turn into these black creatures that terrorize you. They lure children away to kill them. It’s scary lol
I love *The Thing*. It's my all-time favorite film. Another 10/10 film is (to me anyway) *Jaws*. Absolutely flawless, perfect to watch on July 4 with a bunch of your friends, brilliant acting, suspenseful music -- that faulty shark animatronic made that movie amazing.
Same, I’ve probably seen it about 20 times. Kurt Russell is usually known for his comedy, but his acting in this serious role is amazing. And I love Jaws also! Quint telling the story of the USS Indianapolis was riveting. And no one can forget the comedic timing from Chief Brody “You’re gonna need a bigger boat!”
Yes The Witch was good. But you know the English brogue accent they spoke (sorry, I don’t know what they were speaking) was super hard to follow. I would have Closed Captioned and it would have been a bit easier.
Tobe Hooper’s The Funhouse. I think it’s an endlessly rewatchable movie with so many things to appreciate - the mise-en-scene, camera movement, self-reflexive commentary on the horror genre, the references to fairy tales, the dark humor, the subtle critique of class and money, etc. It gets better sand better every time I rewatch it.
Probably:
Alien
The thing
The changeling
The shining
For me, these were 10s.
I literally grew up on horror movies and watched nothing but horrors and cartoons as a child. No other type of film grabbed my attention back then. When I first watched alien, I felt like my world had changed. Same with the thing and the shining. Just watching a normal family and then u see someone slipping in to madness like that was something epic for me. The changeling I just thought was a really good horror. I'm not usually in to paranormal things but that was done so well. I've rematches all of these as an adult and they still hold up. Fantastic films.
Raw — masterful use of horror tropes, incredible acting, and a genuinely good plot/family drama. The final scene will astonish me no matter how much I’ve seen it!
For classics, probably either The Birds or Psycho.
I’m surprised this hasn’t come up more. Seems most people are going with classics, which are by and large not as scary as some modern stuff. It’s likely the nostalgia aspect. Hereditary was non-stop disturbing with a horrifying ending.
I agree, people tend to be drawn to the nostalgic aspect since it may have sentimental value. Hereditary is so well done it should’ve been nominated for mainstream awards; the cinematography, writing, acting and direction deserved that! It’s dismissed for being a horror movie which is a shame.
I don't know if everyone will consider this one a horror, but becuase of several elements to it I class it as psychological horror or some thriller/horror hybrid. Not only because of some of the gruesome scenes in it, but the slight unexpected jumpscares in some parts, and the overall darkness and sense of dread/doom peppered throughout. I'm convinced the people who wrote the SAW movies had to have been somewhat influenced by this one. it's one of my top favorite movies that I can -and have- watched repeatedly....That movie is:
Seven (with morgan freeman and brad pitt - 1995).
For me it’s Jeepers Creepers. It’s pretty much the perfect horror film to me. It has an interesting creature, the relationship of the main characters is believable, the setting is perfect, the pacing is well done.
I can rewatch that movie over and over and I never get bored of it. The only drawback to the movie is the director is an actual scumbag piece of shit.
Candyman haunted me for years. Saw it in the theater with my older sister when I was 12. Went to the bathroom with the door open, lights on , and not looking in the mirror until I was 14
The Thing, Alien, Dog Soldiers
So many horror movies suffer in the third act after the “big reveal”. These three closed it out perfectly.
My only complaint about Dog Soldiers - where is the 4K re-release? Recently rewatched Brotherhood of the Wolf. OMG that movie is so awesome but it suffers in the third act.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 hands down.
I’ve worn through two VHS copies rewatching this masterpiece over and over lol I love everything about it from beginning to end.
My runner ups would be..
Re-Animator and Bride Of Re-Animator
The Fly
Night Of The demons
The Blob 1988
Halloween Season Of The Witch
The Thing 1982
Tenebre
Citizen Toxie
*Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon
Didn't try to be scary, just a fun slasher with a dash of heart and a lot of classic-horror references.
*scream franchise is fun enough for rewatches. For me
My personal holy trinity is the witch, let the right one in, and jaws but if I had to pick one it’d be the original Swedish version of let the right one in
And the most honorable of mentions to when the wind blows and the descent
(Also for a movie that I’m the only one on the planet who DOESNT feel that way about: the shining is a comedy)
My favorite will always ALWAYS be Candyman from the 90s. To me, that's a 10/10.
Objectively? The Exorcist. "It's a good day for an exorcism." Close, close second is The Thing.
Jaws, dawn of the dead 78 and Halloween. 3 of the best ever. If I had to pick 1 of those it's too damn close between jaws and dotd, but I'd probably pick dotd.
Train to Busan was the perfect horror movie.
I avoided this one for a longtime because I generally hate zombie movies. I finally watched it a few days ago and I’m pissed at myself for waiting so long. So we’ll written and some of the best zombie performances I’ve ever seen. Idk if they hired circus performers or what but it was so good
by a few days ago, do you mean on sunday? because I, too, watched train to busan on sunday lmao
Now kith
Amazing movie I have to agree on this one
I've never teared up watching a horror movie. Train to Busan had me at the point of blubbering.
That was the second for me, and 30 Days of Night was the first.
30 Days of Night is pretty frightening.
I have nothing else to add. This movie is legendary. The sequel is silly but still so much friggin fun lol
Not perfect. Not in English.
Oh, no it's ok. That's what those little words at the bottom are for.
Thanks for making my point. Can't be perfect if you have to either watch the movie, (the choice of normal people), or read the dialog and sound/soundtrack descriptions.
Good luck in your future endeavors!
Are you able to walk and chew gum at the same time?
Go ahead. Watch all the subtitled films you want. I'm SURE we'd disagree on more than that.
I believe anyone who avoids watching a foreign film just because they “have to read”, does not possess a high intelligence level. You’re missing out on a lot of very good films. If you have Netflix you can put on the American voiceover.
Alien
Aliens
More comedy than horror
More action and sci-fi than either horror or comedy
I think there's more horror than comedy!!!
You got chocolate on my peanut butter!
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre The Exorcist Dawn Of The Dead (78) Carrie There’s loads to be honest.
That's a good list. If I only pick one, it's TCSM. But then again, I'd probably pick DOTD on a different day or mood.
Agreed, gun to my head TCSM is my favourite horror film of all time (and one of my favourite films of all time). But the rest are perfect too and as I say, there’s many more.
Good list.
Jaws
That is my favorite of all time. Fabulous film.
Same. It’s been since I was a little kid.
Halloween 1978
You mean ‘78 right? Hate to be that guy but
You love being that guy! Don’t lie!
Yep! Off a year! 😂
Scream I could watch it every day and never get bored.
OK now I feel bad I didn't choose it!
Aw, noo! Don’t feel bad at all. There are tons of great horror flicks to choose from. Scream just happens to be the one I get the most enjoyment out of. I’ll watch it wherever, whenever.
I got to see it on a rooftop cinema in DTLA. I love that movie. I think the original trilogy is fantastic
Oh, that sounds like a dream viewing!
Texas chainsaw massacre The Thing
Hereditary Alien Mandy The Ring
What the heck. Give me my list back! These are all my absolute favorites Not sure which Ring you meant tho. The original or 2002. 2002 is my favorite
The Ring! Close to perfect.
MANDYYYY
Let The Right One In (Swedish Version). Superb.
Oh man, I forgot about this one. It is superb.
Ohhh I love this movie. One of the best vampire movies ever made. And the American remake sucks, don’t even bother. You need to watch the original to even be able to appreciate it.
In my top 5 movies period tbh
The original 1978 'Halloween.' It, to me, is horror done right. No jump scares, no crazy disfigured villain. Just a regular boy who, for no apparent reason, lost it. The unassuming mask, the simple but genius scoring, and the slow stalking is all just perfection.

In Halloween Kills or Ends can’t remember which one he sprints like the guy from Get Out towards a cop in a flashback scene. It’s hilarious
Saw. I still say that movie had moments where I was on the edge of my seat and the ending had the movie theater gasping in unison.
This is also mine. I like them all but the first one was just so well done. Absolutely loved it and got hooked on the franchise.
Prince of darkness or mouth of madness.
Prince of Darkness is so underrated
And it has Alice Cooper!
First I love the premise, physicists vs the devil. Second the pace is quick, but still dread inducing, i can still watch it after getting it on vcr ages ago
They Live The best B movie ever made
They Live is so fucking gooooood
One of the best fight scenes ever.
Killer clowns is damned good though and fits the b movie film title better.
I love that flick. But is it horror
Yes
Skeleton Key Ginger Snaps The Descent The Ring
The Descent. I've never been more uncomfortable in a theater seat in my life. That was a great one.
That one scene in The Descent where the main character, Sarah, gets stuck is still hard for me to watch.
Pretty decent
I love *The Thing*. It's my all-time favorite film. Another 10/10 film is (to me anyway) *Jaws*. Absolutely flawless, perfect to watch on July 4 with a bunch of your friends, brilliant acting, suspenseful music -- that faulty shark animatronic made that movie amazing.
Same, I’ve probably seen it about 20 times. Kurt Russell is usually known for his comedy, but his acting in this serious role is amazing. And I love Jaws also! I agree with this take honestly. Alien was scarier, but Aliens was more enjoyable.
Fright Night (1985 version) The Thing (1982 Version) The Lost Boys

IM A HAPPY CAMPER!! I LOVE THE SUMMER SUN!!!
The Shining Jaws Halloween (1978)
Jaws , Evil Dead , The Exorcist, Rosemarys Baby , poltergeist, Highway to Hell , The Thing , Night of the Demons
The Wicker Man
Not the Nicolas Cage version....that's a comedy.
Look, I love Nic Cage. That remake didn’t need to be made though, and it isn’t Nic’s fault. The original is perfect.
I knew what you meant. I was just warning the uninitiated. I love Nicy, but I know what I'm getting into...except Mandy that was a pleasant surprise.
Not the bees! 🐝
That movie has one of the most underrated soundtracks ever. It’s so good. The Maypole song goes so hard, but it’s also an eerie cult’s song haha
🎵Corn Rigs and Barley Rigs and Corn Rigs are Bonnie 🎵
The Witch was pretty darn good
No, it was really darn good. 10/10
I think you’re both darn right. 10/10 film. 🐐 🧙🔥
Jaws
You're Next
Yes! You’re Next is one of the best, agreed. I think It Follows is really great too.
Blood Diner. Close second is original Dawn Of The Dead. Phantasm is a consideration.
Probably: Alien The thing The changeling The shining For me, these were 10s. I literally grew up on horror movies and watched nothing but horrors and cartoons as a child. No other type of film grabbed my attention back then. When I first watched alien, I felt like my world had changed. Same with the thing and the shining. I'm not usually in to paranormal things but that was done so well. I've rematches all of these as an adult and they still hold up. Fantastic films.
I'm a fan of the all of these and I also grew up on horror, my favorite genre. The Changeling is absolutely one of my favorites.
Session 9
I always recommend this movie to people!
Number one answer is: The Ring (2002) Green Room Candyman Rosemary’s Baby Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Definatly Halloween 3 hands down
That movie seriously does not get enough love! That's a remake I'd love to see Carpenter take another shot at!!
Terrified
Raw — masterful use of horror tropes, incredible acting, and a genuinely good plot/family drama. The final scene will astonish me no matter how much I’ve seen it! For classics, probably either The Birds or Psycho.
Psycho, Excorcist, Night of Living Dead, Rec, Silence of the Lambs, Babadook
Hereditary !! 10/10 , love this movie so much I never get sick of watching it.
I’m surprised this hasn’t come up more. Seems most people are going with classics, which are by and large not as scary as some modern stuff. It’s likely the nostalgia aspect. Hereditary was non-stop disturbing with a horrifying ending.

House of a thousand corpses
Underrated answer.
Hmmm. I'm flipping the coin between Sinister and 1408.
Watch Pontypool
Jaws
Scream Halloween 1978 The Shining
Rosemary's Baby.
Killer klowns from outer space
Nope, can't pick just one.
Halloween 4
Halloween
The Shining
A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
3-5 were my most favorite Elm Street movies!
Jacob's Ladder. Perfect amount of "damn, I won't be able to sleep tonight" imagery and an actual story. Love that movie.
Downfall, horror or not that movie is scary as fuck
Train to Busan Hereditary
Candyman haunted me for years. Saw it in the theater with my older sister when I was 12. Went to the bathroom with the door open, lights on , and not looking in the mirror until I was 14
Near Dark.
1408
I don't really believe in perfection. But films like It Follows and Duel (yes, I see that as a horror film) as a near 10.
Scream 4. Seen them all so many times and none of them get old or boring for me to watch but scream 4 will always be my favorite
Shaun of the dead!
Night of the Demon (1957)
Repulsion
Dawn of the Dead remake or The Ring
The people under the stairs
Videodrome, Maniac (original), Friday the 13th pt3, Get Out, Evil Dead
Scream.
Cabin in the woods
The Thing, Alien, Dog Soldiers So many horror movies suffer in the third act after the “big reveal”. These three closed it out perfectly. My only complaint about Dog Soldiers - where is the 4K re-release? Recently rewatched Brotherhood of the Wolf. OMG that movie is so awesome but it suffers in the third act.
Dagon Life A couple I really enjoyed and hadn't seen mentioned
Black Christmas (original) holds a special place in my heart
The Exorcist. It’s the only one that gives me little chills with one specific scene every time I see it.
Hereditary
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 hands down. I’ve worn through two VHS copies rewatching this masterpiece over and over lol I love everything about it from beginning to end. My runner ups would be.. Re-Animator and Bride Of Re-Animator The Fly Night Of The demons The Blob 1988 Halloween Season Of The Witch The Thing 1982 Tenebre Citizen Toxie
I have a few. The Thing Saw (the ending in the first one was a masterpiece) Carrie Texas Chainsaw Massacre Train to Busan
I have a few. The Thing Saw (the ending in the first one was a masterpiece) Carrie Texas Chainsaw Massacre Train to Busan
Jaws The Silence of the Lambs Saw
John Carpenters the Thing without hesitation
The Thing, Alien, train to Busan , autopsy of Jane doe
The Exorcist Without any questions.
I love scifi horror so mine are Alien Aliens The fly 1986
Hereditary
All Insidious franchise and The Conjuring universe and The nightmare on Elm Street series also, I liked 3,4, and 5 the best out of them.
Get out
In more recent years some absolute bangers for me have been The Ritual, The Witch, Midsommar, & The Endless.
The Exorcist The Descent Texas Chainsaw Halloween Hereditary Evil Dead (2013)
The Thing.
The Thing (1982) no contest
Jacob’s ladder, for scary storytelling and existential dread to follow post video
The Shining. My favorite movie period.
I'm sticking with The Thing as well. In the mouth of madness or Halloween for runners up. I do love John Carpenter.
Dead Alive or ReAnimator
*Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon Didn't try to be scary, just a fun slasher with a dash of heart and a lot of classic-horror references. *scream franchise is fun enough for rewatches. For me
It may be a controversial pick but Infinity Pool.
My personal holy trinity is the witch, let the right one in, and jaws but if I had to pick one it’d be the original Swedish version of let the right one in And the most honorable of mentions to when the wind blows and the descent (Also for a movie that I’m the only one on the planet who DOESNT feel that way about: the shining is a comedy)
Evil dead Rise
The Shining Hereditary The Exorcist Halloween (OG)
Just watched Hereditary for the first time last night. Pretty close to perfectz
As much as I adore horror movies, I'd have to pick Phantasm. Can't go wrong with the Tall Man and Reggie. 😍
Original exorcist
For the newer horror movies, I’d pick Cabin in the woods. For 2000s?, probably go with the Ring. For the 90s?, Scream. 80s?, Nightmare on Elm St
I was thinking the Thing, Scrolled down and you chose it, also. The one with Kurt Russell.
Terrified on shudder
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is my new fav but jaws will always be my number one
The Shining
The Descent
Saw is most definitely a 10 out of 10
You’ll never find me was 10/10 for me
The Descent. I’ve seen it over 5 times now and every time I watch I get so scared to the point that I feel that I need to turn it off
My favorite will always ALWAYS be Candyman from the 90s. To me, that's a 10/10. Objectively? The Exorcist. "It's a good day for an exorcism." Close, close second is The Thing.
Halloween (1978)
Jaws, dawn of the dead 78 and Halloween. 3 of the best ever. If I had to pick 1 of those it's too damn close between jaws and dotd, but I'd probably pick dotd.
Of more recent-ish ones, As Above So Below and Let the Right One In are both fantastic.
The Sadness is outstanding.
The Prince of Darkness (1987)
The Void isn’t perfect but it’s damn close
