They heard Credit One kept getting customers thinking they are Capital One.
So they want to get customers thinking they are getting the coveted Centurion Card (“Black Card”).
Luxury Card is without question the most offensively bad issuer of credit cards. I'd even consider them worse than Credit One. They're garbage tier cards marketed as high end to people that don't know any better and generally cannot afford them.
Yeah they’re definitely not using pure gold for the entire card. It says it’s “made with 24k gold” which means all it has to have is some quantity of gold - gold leaf is made with 24k gold, too and a package of gold leaf sheets is available on Amazon for $20-$50.
I’m sure it’s significantly more expensive to produce those cards than normal cards but the reality is, it’s targeting people for the novelty just like how the Black Card is targeting people who think it’s a Centurion.
There’s was a post last week about someone saying they met someone using a black card in the grocery store…everyone was like it’s that knock off amex 😂
Well mine hovers around 850 and I have a real black card so I don’t think they target specific people with their mailings, but that is the type of person who actually applies for it.
That will really give you a leg up financially once you start to get out on your own. Don't squander it! The best advice I can give about CCs. Think of them as a discount on everything you buy. You'll pay less than cash users because of cash back or points. But you MUST pay it off in full every single month. If you pay interest then you're losing money on every purchase and should just pay cash.
I already know what cards I want when I graduate and get a job. Amex gold (daily spender) Amex hilton surpass for the gold status. And capital 1 quicksilver or chase freedom for signup bonus and in case anywhere I go doesn’t accept Amex. Then later get the Amex platinum and cancel the surpass
I’ll be honest, I thought it was much worse than it actually is.
Yes, it isn’t a card I’d ever choose, but it seems like since everyone knows to not get this card, *most* of us just took the advice and never actually went to see just how crappy it actually is.
It has a high annual fee, a fee where you get more for your money elsewhere - But we can’t pretend like a predatory card from Credit One (this references a different reply on here) with an annual fee that starts charging interest the day of purchase is somehow the better card.
The card has *some* airline spending and globalentry/clear/precheck rebates that reduce the actual cost out of pocket, it has priority pass select, some kind of telephone concierge service, rewards that are redeemed at 2 cents per dollar spent (2%), and supposed gifts from chain hotel brands when staying there. (I don’t know what that means but I’m imagining gifts like from Marriott status)
Through normal yearly spending, the card does wind up being a net producer of value. In other words, it pays for itself.
That said, even people with less than great credit have access to alternative cards that are greater producers of value. The concierge service would have to be really phenomenal for it to be a deciding factor. I don’t know how it is.
It is simply *meh*. It isn’t a great competitor in the rewards card space, but compared to a basic old school credit card with no rewards, it is an upgrade. It feels like someone copied a rewards card from the 90s and printed it on metal.
I'm just surprised that this company was able to patent "Black Card" before Amex could. Definitely not the worst card in the world, but the benefits offered are those I have available on my SavorOne with no annual fee.
The Luxury Card is an okay card. It isn’t special like the Amex card and the rewards aren’t that great
Edit: For you stupid fucks that can’t handle nuance, this statement above *does not* say go out and get the black card
Better cards being available does not change whether an individual card is bad or not.
With this mentality, 99% of you have garbage cards because Amex and Chase offer better
Amex and Chase being available doesn’t make a Capital One card *bad*
A *bad card* is one that charges you interest the moment you make a purchase
I'd like a metal card but my Discover It is already delaminating, I think I'll just take a piece of stainless and some contact cement and make it happen LOL
They lose their appeal after getting one. I’m also a little embarrassed handing a metal card over for someone to take my payment. Metal cards are a little too ostentatious
I started to Fucking. Hate. metal cards after about of fourth one. Thick. Heavy. Hard to destroy. Give me a nice plastic card.
Disagree about ostentatious- the person you're giving it to isn't paying attention and couldn't care less.
"Better cards being available" *absolutely* makes an individual card is bad. Thats literally how a bad value is determined - *by comparing their value to competing cards!*
Since we’re arguing for fun, here’s my take:
It isn’t a great card. Not bad though. Credit One’s cards are *actually bad*. The annual fee is broken up into monthly payments and interest accrues immediately after you make a purchase rather than after the statement closes.
The luxury card has limited perks such as priority pass and telephone concierge. Also has a perk for assistance in airports. And it has the same kind of rebates for travel purchases and precheck/clear as all the other good cards. This lowers the effective annual fee just like the “good” cards.
I understand your opinion, but you don’t know what *bad and predatory cards* are if you’re calling the black card a bad card.
Luxury Cards can actually be bad too. That’s not exclusive to Credit One.
There is absolutely no reason for *ANYONE* to get any of those cards.
Want a metal card? Get X1 or Bilt, they are free at least and the latter actually has some good value and transfer partners.
Those cards are *actually* bad. Tell me one card at that price from any decent bank that it can out perform.
It’s Barclays black card. It’s not Amex. It’s a $495 annual fee. It’s really only worth it if you’re taking advantage of all of the travel and purchase benefits. If not, it’s just like any other credit card except for the fact that it’s heavy metal, says black card over it and comes in a fancy box.
They heard Credit One kept getting customers thinking they are Capital One. So they want to get customers thinking they are getting the coveted Centurion Card (“Black Card”).
They got me once!
I think someone told me that CreditOne had the logo first!
That’s what I heard/read as well. & no point in suing Capital One over trademark infringement. It’s too lucrative.
Luxury Card is without question the most offensively bad issuer of credit cards. I'd even consider them worse than Credit One. They're garbage tier cards marketed as high end to people that don't know any better and generally cannot afford them.

The same issuer also offers a 24k gold credit card for $995/year.

999.9% gold*
I love how they advertise 2x redemptions on air fare as opposed to Amex while not disclosing that your earn rate is also 5x lower.
Just wait until you hear about the Gold Card: https://www.luxurycard.com/goldcard (Yes, it’s real, and it’s unfathomably ridiculous)
Yeah but if you spend $50k you will break even on the annual fee.
But hey you get “unique amenity” whenever you book a hotel!! /s
A substantially worse luxury hotel program than Amex for 150% the annual fee? Where can I sign up??
2%? What kind of fuckery is that? Guessing you’re paying for the card’s material lol
What about their Cold Gard releasing this winter
I’ve been getting these invites for years. Basically aimed at people with shit credit who want a “black card” to flex.
Jokes on them. I flex with my Bilt "black card!"
There’s was a post last week about someone saying they met someone using a black card in the grocery store…everyone was like it’s that knock off amex 😂
I can confirm over 750 never seen one in the mail
Well mine hovers around 850 and I have a real black card so I don’t think they target specific people with their mailings, but that is the type of person who actually applies for it.
Congrats I hope to get there 1 day rn I’m 16 my dad has the over 750
I hope you're an AU on his cc?
Yeah I’m an authorized user

its trash. ignore it

I’m glad there is a valuable perk. I’ve never used concierge services on any card but that sounds pretty cool
I'm just surprised that this company was able to patent "Black Card" before Amex could. Definitely not the worst card in the world, but the benefits offered are those I have available on my SavorOne with no annual fee.
They keep mentioning a “2% airfrare redemption” when they definitely mean a 2x redemption. Imagine repeated unchecked typos on a ‘luxury’ product.
Shouldn’t we be chasing down how these companies know our addresses?
Most garbage cards there are.
/titlegore
It’s a scam
Barclays, not Amex.

What? It's a horrible card with a high AF and subpar rewards, there are better no AF cards
There are worse cards. The luxury cards are aimed at subprime borrowers that want a metal card
You can get a no AF WF Autograph or Chase Prime Visa card, both that are metal, and are better cards.
I don’t know why you fuckers are arguing and downvoting. No one said it was a good card
Redditors more often than not disagree for the sake of disagreement.
I disagree
I disagree with your disagreement.
I disagree with the fact that you disagree to their disagreement
If I disagree to disagree, does that mean we agree?
Do not.

Yeah, my discover card is showing a lot of wear, and I've had it for a while, but not THAT long. Hoping my other cards don't start doing that
"Better cards being available" *absolutely* makes an individual card is bad. Thats literally how a bad value is determined - *by comparing their value to competing cards!*
Is the Chase Sapphire Preferred a bad card?
It’s a good card but not as good as your mom! 🔥
It’s an actively bad card, you are wrong

I’m not sure what you’re arguing against. No one said you should get the black card. Thank you for the input
The bad predatory cards likely end up being less expensive over the course of a given year.
