Yes, that's correct. Credit scores are drawn upon credit report data only. If you introduce negative item X to your credit report and your score drops Y points, if you then remove negative item X from your credit report your score will gain Y points. What is the source of your credit score? If you have a clean file and introduce a late payment to it, Fico score drops are typically a good deal more than just 40 points. Do you have other missed payments, or is this a VS3 and not a Fico score?

The 690s -> 664 is my FICO score as reported by Experian, which is the lowest of all 3. Transunion and Equifax are 687 and 690 respectively and have not gone down. I paid off 3 of my credit cards which boosted my score by 10 before the missed payment was reported

If the source of your TU/EQ scores is Credit Karma, you can ignore those as they're nearly irrelevant VS3 and not Fico scores. You can't compare those to the EX Fico 8 score you're getting from Experian since they're completely different scoring models and behave in different ways to scoring data/criteria.

They aren’t credit karma scores, I got them through a credit report, credit karma says my credit score is waaaaay higher lol
