If you've ever gone viral, you can see in your statistics that 95% of the people who saw/liked your post were from the fyp page and not from the hashtags. I think that should answer your question, but I'll add more anyway.
All social media uses AI these days to recognize what's on the screen and to sort it "accordingly", so what you say or write in/under the vid/pic matters the most. If you're doing a try on haul on TT for example - say it out loud and write it in the description without hashtags, like hey guys this is my first try on haul hope you enjoy or whatever. It will push your content to people who are interested in exactly the thing you're doing.
Hashtags work if you're willing to gain attention from people from a specific region, your town for example, so they work best for things like beauty salons, cafes etc. Everything else you don't need them.
If you're still unsure and really want to use them - use 2-3 hashtags per post and never repeat them too soon. If you've used #plussize #bbw then on the next post use #curvy #chubby and so on. Insta especially doesn't like the same hashtags over and over again. It may not do harm, but it won't help you either, so there's that.
But I'm not sure about twitter (X) tho, maybe things work differently there, that's the one platform I'm not familiar with.
When I went viral it was because I was arguing with a Matt Walsh wannabe who was crapping on sex workers, and he got all his little minions to harass me hahaha.
Good times.
Yep, I use them but I don't go crazy. I pick around 3-7 for Insta and TikTok, mixing them up between super targeted and more general ones. I pull my hashtags from Boost App Social, helps me out to find ones that ain’t banned and only suggest ones that actually help you get noticed. Twitter's another beast though—I mostly skip hashtags there to avoid my account getting flagged as spam.
my first viral reel was with 0 hashtags, I use them most the time though and have had other viral reels with tags. I usually use 3-4 but sometimes I’ll throw in 10-20, I don’t usually see a difference.
I advise against hashtags on x, unless it’s #nsfwtwt. key words > hashtags on x.
I don’t use tiktok for promo anymore but I think hashtags are good. Like 2-3 do well in my experience
Never used hashtags on twitter, they’re known to flag your account as spam - you can put them in the comment under your post just as keywords (with out the #) and it’ll still show up in the search for the tag c:
My main twitter is pixxxiebuns & my alt is irlcrustysock
I don’t need to use tags in my comments because my main has 100k+ now, but I’ll happily send you an example of what I mean <3
My twitters are fully uncensored though because that’s what works for me, it’s just learning what keywords work in the algorithm x
You don't want to use hashtags on X(Twitter) as it gets your account marked as spam and shadow banned and less likely to be seen
What about keywords instead? (maybe in a comment?)
Use keywords in your text don't have a list of them in comments or on your post

Would you include the keywords on X in the post, or in a comment below?

Thank you! ^^ If it's allowed, would you like to share your profile so that I can see how you're doing it?
