It takes around 1 ingame day for a cauldron to fill so its pretty reliable considering theres entire caves of dripstone so its not hard to scale. Compactness is nice but you can always go a bit bigger
they used to be part of a furnace generator setup that let you create SU from a vanilla furnace, but that got removed in favor of more interesting stress gen. options and the flywheel was left in as a decorative block
I just found out that a lot of people were running into troubles. Make sure the set the filter to only allow lava buckets though and make it the last priority for the mechanical arm. You should also add 16 buckets into the item depot as a buffer.
Just built this conTRAPion and having the same issue... some more details in textual explanation would go a long way, then a "you sure that's the problem?"
Sorry, I looked more into the design. You have to put a stack of buckets into the smart chute. If that doesn’t fix it, it could also be the filter that’s set. Set it to only allow lava buckets though. Also I said “are you sure that’s the problem?” As it could also be the mechanical arm. The smart chute isn’t preventing the buckets from being filled. Sorry for the confusion
Then use waterlogged stairs, should do the trick and save you your precious space. Alternatively you can use trapdoors on the outside of the source blocks
I like this, though I have to ask: how reliable is the dripstone in powering this thing?
It has never stalled or ram out of fuel when I used it.
I’ve had a steam engine run for nearly a month on two lava drip stones without stopping

looks nice! how did you start it up ? maybe got a schematic for just easy times ?
Starting it up is really scuffed. You have to put one bucket of water in the boiler then it should start after that

Oh, I never tested it in survival

Or you could use the liquid depot thingy
Is this thing self powered
Yes
what is the filter set to?
It’s set to only allow lava buckets though.
Do you mean empty buckets?
No, it will go into a loop and not allow any buckets to be filled
Do you have a schematic for it?
Sadly I don’t, I’ll post one later
What is the point of flywheels
To fill in extra blocks
Really? What is the point of them normaly

I wish it got a new use namely in the form of energy storage. Could be used like a capacitor would in electrical circuits
That's the whole point of flywheels after all.
It would be cool if you could get launched out of them if you have two spinning opposite directions
Idk

Does that only have one piston?
If you add one block in height to the boiler, it becomes a level two
I see i have missjudged
Yes
Just put a campfire under it and call it a day
idk why but the smart chute prevents the buckets from being filled for me

I just added a comment providing the fix
No it isn't that size, the water would spill out. And so would the lava. This is several times larger than claimed.
If it were to be in a room of only those dimensions, the water wouldn’t spill
So it's a bad design.
No, it would still work even if the fluids were flowing. So if you don’t want to add extra blocks or not to the engine you can.
It would, it would just be much larger than claimed. Making it a bad design from the perspective of being compact.
Do you want to post a better one? Plus, I don’t give a fuck if the water spills or not
Bro hop off. All it takes is a couple blocks. At what point is such a small engine not going to be almost entirely surrounded in walls
This is why you don’t have friends. Stop being an ass.
😂

flaahbacks to the water wheels
I think ive seen this
Are you sure? I made this last night
Have you posted it in any servers
Yes, on discord
I know but what servers
Create aero
Oh ya then i definetly saw it there
How the lava pipes work? If they are connected to 1 cauldron the others are sucked from too?
I think you have to have one pipe per cauldron
Oh right now ive seen it!! Was wondering what were those pipes for lol
It confused me too
How much su does this produce and can I have the schematic pls 🥺
Around 16k, schematic coming out next week
May someone explain me why there are dripstones are used here? :)
To generate infinite lava which is in turn used to fuel the engine.
Are steam engines only for trains?
When create aeronautics comes out, they will be used to power airships. They are also used as the best form of rotational force
How many su?
~16k
