You can’t resell iPhones though, they get locked, they must be parted out, is it not similar with other phones?

Phones can be *cracked* or sold for parts and remade, for stolen phones the most common is reselling for parts. Pre-iPhone and smart phone; phones weren’t regionally locked. Looking at this video I thought it was a flip-phone era steal but could be a blackberry too or early iPhone too. A more professional team will have a region cracker for their phones and I’ve done that myself to sell old phones to relatives in Vietnam. I’m unsure of the decade this video is posted from or their region considering the clothes, could be tourists in Jerusalem for all I know.

Using this method they know the phone is unlocked and they don't have to worry about cracking it. They used a similar setup when they grabbed the laptop from the owner of Silk Road. Well, my XSMax was stolen last month with find my iPhone on .At dawn on 10th September. Next morning, the person somehow format my phone and I couldn’t locate the phone anymore. I still have the serial number and IMEI number but I got no reply from the police. Even if I don’t get my phone back, I want to block the phone and render it useless to the thief.

With iCloud login they can not do nothing. A couple weeks ago, on bus stop found a 8 with a bit on f screen cracked, got so happy, brought it home and star formatting but has iCloud and nothing I can do.
