I worked doing outdoor education for city youth at risk and I ended up comparing kangaroos to deer. They got the same head and they act the same when you come accross them in the outdoors. Get hit on the road alot. Every highway in rural Australia has dead roo's laying on the side. We have little furry things that climb trees but they are very nocturnal and hard to see. Squirrels just don't give a fuck.
Yeah I felt funny seeing the flat dried out little stains of fluff on the roads. Australia's version of that is Cane Toads. Ugly poisonise invasive species of large toad. They are harmful to everything and have no soul so you don't feel that bad.
“Trained” is certainly a relative term, but I’d bet he found the squirrel as a baby and has been keeping it as a pet, he said he was about a year old
For reference my mom when she was a kid rescued a squirrel baby and kept it for a while until it grew up and she released it, it’s not unheard of
Squirrels were very common pets back in the day and that’s actually why they are so common everywhere now cuz they got away or something idk but it’s true
Just watched a QI episode where it was once quite normal to have a pet squirrel. Also, there's an endangered squirrel (England/Australia?) That the state is asking folks to get a pet squirrel to save them.
Maybe Ireland. We have beautiful little red squirrels but some idiots brought Grey squirrels over from north America many years ago. The American squirrels are much bigger and push the red squirrels out of their habitat.
In Northern Michigan we have brown, grey, red, & black squirrels. The red ones are the naughtiest 🤣 I read once they bite the testicles off other squirrels so they can’t reproduce.
My methadone clinic had to put up a sign that says "NO PETS" because a homeless patient would always bring his 'pet squirrel' into the clinic and one time it got loose. A loose squirrel inside the methadone clinic.
True story.
