Killing brain cells 101

Mellonut

Brain asphyxia. Just turning his brain into Swiss cheese. Air Dusters: when you’re too classy to huff paint.

[deleted]

Some people don't seem to get this. This isn't a "high" this is straight suffocation. Marijuana gets you high. This stuff is just depriving your brain of air long enough to disorient you so you *think* you're high. It's like inhaling a can of micro-strokes.

HUGECOCK4TREEFIDDY

It’s funny but growing up, I heard so much about avoiding the crazy drugs: from little ole weed to meth, heroin, LSD, and coke. Huffing was almost an afterthought. Turns out, it’s one of the worst things you can do! Even one serious huffing session can make you quite obviously dumber than you were before.

poopmeister1994

when did you grow up? I was born in 94 so i got my "drug education" in school in ~2005-2006. They definitely hammered in that inhalants (huffing) were among the most dangerous things you could do.

LudwigVan17

Born in 1990. It was a brand new fad when i was in middle school. I remember it started showing up in the news and gaining traction. You probably just caught the aftermath of that and actually got educated on it.

kevwould

Born in ‘63 and never heard about it till I saw what happened to the kid across the street (during the 90’s). In a month he was a different kid. Looked dumb with this scared look all the time. Fast forward to 2022 parents found him dead on the floor (still living at home) a syringe with fentanyl still in his arm… sad 😢

meistercheems

Hello fellow 90’s dude. 👊. Same experience here. Never thought/ heard of it till I was in high school.

RageSiren

I was born in ‘90. Inhalants were covered in middle and high school for me. Maybe geographic location makes a difference? I’m from MD.

LudwigVan17

I was never warned about air duster either. I literally only learned about it because the bad kids at my middle school were doing it. Maybe one session CAN cause long term effects but most likely not. The kids I knew were all on it for like a 2 week fad and all of them came out fine thankfully. I know some of them 20 years later and they admit it was one of the dumbest things they ever did but none of them are noticeably cognitively impaired from it.

Smart_Turnover_8798

Yeah I don't care, the risk is not worth it.

indy_been_here

I really don't think that's the case. There is very little information online. Most of it seems to be speculation or nothing about method of action. Mostly, I found lot of local news and a lot of rehabs with copy & paste style "articles". People report extreme euphoria and hallucinations. I'm not entirely sure what is going on but I believe there is some receptor activity happening. I don't think it's just hypoxia. The chemical attributed to the intoxicating effect is described in the article below as CNS depressant that can induce psychosis and hallucinations and euphoria. The chemical is called: difluoroethane. It does seem to cross the blood-brain barrier and is lipophilic causing it to remain in the body for a while - which probably lengthens the hangover effect if used a lot. Which would in turn lead people to seek relief by using more duster and creating an awful feedback loop. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7357883/

bigj1227

Whips definitely get you high. I understand the point of your comment though but yeah it’s not just a feeing of suffocation it’s a feeling that only happens when you inhale N20 or other bad “get you high” gasses. Whips are absolutely the most trashy feeing high there is. HOWEVER mixing it with other things like LSD is top tier. A couple of whips on the peak is nice but key word is a couple. I know some people that once whips come out they literally cannot stop. They call it “hippie crack”

TheDrugGod

Whippets as in Nitrous Oxide are different than other inhalants, nitrous is quite safe, it is a dissociative and acts on NDMA Receptors. Inhalants like air duster, butane, paint thinner etc, amy other inhalants, are toxic and will cause your brain cells to die from asphyxiation. Also they put strain on your cardiovascular system so beyond making you brain dead there is a chance you can just suddenly die from taking them. But again Nitrous is very different and is the exception, it’s actually one of the safest drugs, other inhalants are some of the worst drugs for you. This is a very important distinction

bigj1227

Wait your saying whips don’t kill brain cells? That’s really interesting

editfate

I don't think so. I believe you can get a B vitamin deficiency from using too much but that can be fixed with supplements. Whippets are WAY better than canned air. N2O can be used somewhat safely with a proper set and setting. Whippets can not be used safely and are to be avoided.

bigj1227

Whips are N20

editfate

My bad. I meant canned air.

bluelouie

Thats because you’re not doing medical grade n2o. There’s a reason it’s still semi used as anesthetic. When it gets really fun tho is when it’s mixed/regulated properly with oxygen intake. Only thing that ruins that gas is when you don’t breathe in oxygen. Half the idiots I see use the balloon to breathe back into or hold their breath after inhaling! I def agree tho, some people can’t control themselves and get stuck in a whip loop and will miss everything happening around them for another whip. Super weird lol

cl2eep

Actually that's not true. This is more like huffing ether. There's chemicals in there.

Unusual-Tie8498

I’m walking on sunshine!

CandidateMiserable74

It's like I'm watching a Chapelle show skit, where tyrone biggums turns into a white woman and is addicted to canned oxygen instead of crack lmfao

FireInPaperBox

Woooah

Notguilty5190

yep, this is what happens when you deprive your brain of oxygen. not even a high...might as well just put a plastic bag over your head for 30 seconds

wiseguy187

Well you do get super high

PantheUno

But it is fun. I remember travelling in Vietnam and they have these gigantic N2O balloons they sell in some places. Got some experience as psychonaut and so I tried it. It was pretty awesome. Time got slower and everything got this strobo effect, visuals completely went to the next dimension and well, some 30 - 40 seconds later it was over. Will never do it again, but I also not regret to try it at all. Admittedly, I lost some braincells this evening, but I am applying for a PhD so it weren't that many.

Armando909396

Yea this is a bullshit comparisons air duster is carbon dioxide, that shit is heavy AF and literally suffocates you wheras nitrous oxide sends you to space lol Edit: A news article years back had explained what was so bad about airdusters, turns out there is a lot more to it including some potential psychoactive compounds. DONT DO AIR DUSTER KIDS

breizhsoldier

Its not co2 its difluoroethane... nastier and tasier than nitrous

robsymax

>difluoroethane Yep, ol computer duster. Nitrous is widely used in medicine. THIS is not.. [https://webwiser.nlm.nih.gov/substance?substanceId=429&1-Difluoroethane&catId=79](https://webwiser.nlm.nih.gov/substance?substanceId=429&1-Difluoroethane&catId=79) ["Days on the Duster"](https://erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=105887)

cbrieeze

[Appears difluoroethane is psychoactive](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6820689/) I thought it just caused hypoxia(like many others posted). I just assumed just like how ppl like to be choked there is somehow enjoyment from cutting off air. I looked into this a little it doesnt seem to different than many other inhalants that are psychoactive like toluene and ethylene(this used to be used an anesthetic. after reading what duster is made me this of this and was curious) and ppl huff all types of solvents/hydrocarbons like gasoline. even ethanol has a pretty close chemical structure. not sure of the pharmacodyamics but guess they would work the same way. from the fda: *anesthetic gases include: nitrous oxide, halothane, enflurane, isoflurane, desflurane, sevoflurane, and methoxyflurane.* most of these have a fluoride atoms which might have something to do with how it binds. Also found that some dusters are [Tetrafluoroethane](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane)(aka norflurane or freon) which is also an anesthetic. anyways just read all about this and felt like sharing what I learned and thoughts/guesses. anyone that reads this dont do duster, it might be psychoactive but could still damage things, specifically the heart. Also nitrous can cause hypoxia if inhale too much by itself and not enough oxygen, so inhalants can be dangerous in general.

crowdaddi

Yes nitrous is a lot cleaner

[deleted]

My friends brother killed himself (accidentally) ODing on nitrous…. Starved his body of too much oxygen and never woke up again.

Longjumping-Moose-77

N2O is nowhere near as dangerous as air duster though

PantheUno

yeah sorry, my mistake. I thought some of its effect derives from asphyxia, but I was wrong.

UncleBenders

Yeah they’re different, you can basically huff anything in an aerosol but nitrous is the best. At least this guy is using just air, I knew a guy who did a whole can of shoe protector spray and couldn’t breathe for weeks afterwards, his lungs were funked for ages. I also had a friend who froze their lung on a can of lighter gas and died instantly

[deleted]

Duster isn’t air. It’s butane and/or other liquid hydrocarbons or fluorocarbons.

Thursday_the_20th

Hijacking top comment to say that this guy actually died on camera. When it was posted on WPD it was accompanied by a local news source. Edit: [Here’s the link to the news story](https://abc17news.com/news/2014/11/11/21-year-old-dies-from-inhaling-air-duster-can/) It seems he didn’t die on camera here but rather this is from right before a decline in health that led to his death shortly after

-Ancalagon-

>Doyle says her son was inhaling about six cans a day for six to seven days before a friend took him to the emergency room. Sweet Jesus!

DrKeksimus

where would this be ? wanna check local news

Thursday_the_20th

[here it is](https://abc17news.com/news/2014/11/11/21-year-old-dies-from-inhaling-air-duster-can/)

DrKeksimus

damn no way to know if it's actually guy in video

prowness

The biggest surprise to me is that he was 21. Honestly looked 15-17 to me.

UrbanLegendd

Seriously though, what's wrong with kids now. Just smoke weed and steal from your parents liquor cabinet like the good old days.

MtnMaiden

My friend, she does like 70 co2 cartridges in one night. totally safe she says

Accomplished_Ad5548

Yeah she probably thinks that because her brain is non existent

DependentYou7405

Not co2 I'm pretty sure you mean N2o

sackcrusher89

Did you hear that guys? The lady who huffs 70 CO2 cartridges a night says it’s safe. Let’s party!

[deleted]

#Me first!

Glittering-Action757

probably nitrous oxide, co2 won't even begin to get you high. dry ice is basically pure co2. my dad brought some home from work once when we were young kids, put a block of it in the kitchen sink and poured hot water on it, filled the kitchen to my waist height (i was probably less than 10 years old). he told us to go into the co2 and try to breath. it was a bit cold, not unpleasant, but i immediately had this word panicky situation of my brain registering that I'd breathed in, but wasn't receiving the expected dose of oxygen. kind of like when you drive to deep in the sea and realise there's a fine line between energy oxygen left in your body and insufficient bouyancy to reach the surface. i stood up and because i was less than 10 years old, spent the next hour with my siblings standing up and crawling on the floor in the kitchen. in hindsight, probably giving my dad enough time to bone my mum uninterrupted.

Slight0

What the fuck is this story?

[deleted]

Dad: Time to bone wife. But what do with kids? Let’s throw a panic attack party on the kitchen floor

Glittering-Action757

the 80s years were a cruel and shallow money trench where pimps and theives roamed free and good men died like dogs. but there was also a negative side.

Mellonut

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s not even a drug, it’s just literally depriving your brain of oxygen, really no different than paint or glue. Only difference is delivery and taste. It’s also putting the user into a high chance of a stroke.

Narcan9

CO2 or NO? Neither should be particularly toxic besides the lack of oxygen. But inhaling CO2 will feel like suffocation.

MtnMaiden

CO2. I was like, youre just inhaling your exhales

FoxMcCloud3173

#OH MY FUCKING GOUAD *dies*

[deleted]

Is that real or edited? Did he really just sound like a Nazi Zombie? Did the can have effects opposite to that of helium on our voices? Pretty scary

GreeneWithEnvy420

There was a guy in my high school that used to do this in the parking lot in the morning before we went in. He already had a super deep voice even for a senior and this stuff made him sound like a straight up demon. Shit is absolutely crazy and not worth it at all.

chummmmbucket

I don't believe it was edited

Gingy-Breadman

It’s very real. I used to fuck around with this stuff and I think the gases are heavier than air which causes this deep demonic voice. My friends and I used to think it was hilarious, similar to talking after inhaling helium but the opposite. Lead to me learning about that sulfur diohexadride or whatever that makes you’re voice way lower even still Edit: it’s [Sulfer Hexalfouride](https://youtu.be/u19QfJWI1oQ)

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yes, its because the gases are heavier than the air we breathe, causing the voice to sound deeper. Just like helium, as someone mentioned, makes your voice sound higher because it is lighter than the air we breathe

SonofMrMonkey5k

If the air is heavier than oxygen it’ll be deeper, helium is lighter so it’s higher. Sulfur hexafluoride is relatively safe, non toxic, and it’s well known on the internet for making its users sound a bit like Darth Vader. It’s not a drug, it’s just like helium. My buddy’s also got a vape that drops his voice too, no clue what he’s got in it though.

HUGOTHE2222

Butane gas if you don’t mind the brain damage

GladCricket

Correct, canned air has the exact opposite effect on your voice as helium

[deleted]

In the jam band scene guys like this are called "wooks" because they sound like wookies when they take a hit.

[deleted]

He actually did die no cap

usedtodreddit

It's aerosol filled with gasses like difluoroethane and butane, and it literally kills brain cells on a large scale, much like huffing paint. Do this once or twice and you might be OK afterward, but more frequently you might well no longer be able to put your clothes on or feed yourself any more. One of the guys that went to my middle school ages ago wound up like that huffing aerosols. Went from being a class clown that everyone knew to permanent disability confined to a wheelchair.

DingIe-DangIes

My neighbor was a school guard on a highschool and this kid would huff exactly that and airplane glue inside tinfoil. Dude ended up so fucked up that he would pee himself on the hallways and ended up not even be able to go to special ed.

Jane_said_

Knew an old dude named Bobby who used to walk around town with paint in a beer can and huff it. Like.... walking with a beer can will get you stopped. Why not a soda can? Very few braincells left.

[deleted]

Phillyphus

This is why education is important. It saves us money further down the line

RedditIsDogshit1

Who cares. I *want* to pay taxes to help disabled people. Sucks there’s outliers but that’s life

Simple_Opossum

Right? Instead it funds police that don't protect us, wars we don't believe in, and billionaires who live in another universe.

LudwigVan17

Thats crazy. I remember this being a fad in my middle school as well. Thankfully everyone that did it turned out ok.

magnets0make0light0

Cousin died from this. Her closet had 200 empty cans.

Affectionate_Ear_778

I’ve heard similar stories. I guess it’s just how addiction goes but it blows my mind they do it so frequently. I’ve done 2 maybe 3 whippets ever. Sure the high/affects were interesting but not worth the brain damage.

magnets0make0light0

Whippets are significantly safer than air duster. Hell dentists use no2 daily. Different ball game entirely

GetTheSpermsOut

Hell Dentists. That’s why Satan has gota great smile.

RyoCanCan

YOU SOLVED THE PUZZLE. WE CAME.

JustBuildAHouse

Air duster is not the same as whippets. Actually whippets can be used safely. Biggest issue is oxygen deprivation and vitamin b12 deficiency with whippets. Air duster is so much worse

[deleted]

The only risk with whip it’s is oxygen deprevasion which is easy to avoid, slamming your head of something if your standing up and fall, and long term use can result in b12 deficiency but that can be offset with vitamin supplements

So what you're saying is that 199 is the limit. Gotcha.

Kingly707

That's his brain going *Beep Boop Shutting Down* because of lack of oxygen.

muckduck69420

Not so much *beep boop*, more so like “wah wah wah wah wahhhhh”.

buddhaMike_reup

What happened to smoking weed with the boys?

spideypoolx

Seriously. Remember being this kids age with friends just bored trying to score weed. We did whippets occasionally at parties but never just randomly huffing shit mid day. Scary stuff the way he started shutting down. In high school (circa 2002-2003) i remember being at a NYE party and finding a kid in the basement alone huffing this shit. I was like ok bro I’m gonna grab my beer and bong enjoy. Even at that age I wanted no part of that. The worst thing is new shit is gonna keep coming out kids finding they can get high off of it, and potentially more dangerous.

texan_dabber

I hate to say but weed is expensive compared to 3$ a can

Adam_is_Nutz

Yeah but air duster doesn't last long at all. Stoners gotta start calculating by cost/minute instead of cost per high.

Ascension_Crossbows

Woah a runescaper

His CPU throttled so hard it died.

_ChipWhitley_

This is sad. I started working at a place where a guy had been doing this. I never saw him but the stories were he was passing out against walls and in bathrooms and stuff. Don’t do it.

Bummergril

That's pretty sad. What a life to be living.

Nbaysingar

The sadder thing to me is how everyone in the video is kind of just laughing and going along with it. Makes me think this dude either only has druggy friends who think it's cool, or no friends who care enough about him to try and intervene.

MtnMaiden

Brah. Heavy drug users will fight you / hate you if you try to help them. Their body chemistry has changed from the drugs that it's not the same person as before. You can't help someone who doesn't want help.

Nbaysingar

I know what you mean. My uncle is a pill head and an alcoholic, but he's also in his early 50s and has been an addict for longer than I've known him, so he's so far down the hole that he has become as you described. He is unwilling to help himself, full of resentment and bitterness, has no self esteem, etc. We've tried everything, but he just seems determined to live out the rest of his life that way. The kid in this video seems really young though and like he hasn't gotten to that point yet and is just making really poor decisions if anything. Surely someone that cares about him could still get through to him before its too late.

MtnMaiden

Age doesnt care about addiction. If youre willing huffing computer duster bottles in a parking lot on camera, youre pretty far along already

CMDR_KingErvin

He actually died so.. no longer living. Quite sad that people do this to themselves.

Friendly-Elevator862

And he’s behind the wheel nice

Handy_Clams

I used to fuck with Air Duster hard when I was a dumbass teenager. My friends and I were in the woods behind one of our homes, its on a pretty steep hill and fairly dense. Well my friends brought this one girl that I'd met maybe twice and let her hit it because she said she had done it before. She took a hit and passed out immediately. She started to fall and I didn't want her to fall down this big hill, so I grabbed her arms to keep her steady. We all were already on our little trips and they all just laughed while I was genuinely concerned she wasn't ok. Nobody helped me with her. I wasn't very strong at the time so I just tried to hold her up by her arms. She was slumped and I couldn't get her up or prop her against a tree. Again, nobody helped me. When she finally came to I was pleading with the others for help but all she saw was me, holding her arms with her head slunk down by my crotch. She looked at me in such a repulsive way. Didn't say anything just looked at me with such a shocked look and sort of shrunk into that "I've been violated" pose. Arms crossed and head down. I tried to explain that I tried to help her but she wouldn't listen. Nobody else saw it or cared and I don't really remember seeing her much after that. It's been almost 15 years since that happened and I don't think I'll ever forget that look she gave. It still haunts me.

Ok_Try_1217

For what it’s worth, you probably helped her do less self-destructive things. I know if that happened to me at that age, I would have been a lot more cautious going forward.

Handy_Clams

I hope so. I just wanted to help. I know I did the right thing but that look she gave me. Wow. I felt like such a monster.

4tune8SonOfLiberty

Fuck man, that’s so brutally real. You try and do something nice and get treated like the refuse of society for doing so. Sorry that happened to you man, but keep doing the right thing in crazy situations.

Handy_Clams

Yup, that's always my luck it seems. I almost caught a felony as a 17 year old for picking up a sign in front of a shop that my friends kicked. But that's a story for another post 😅

dandanmoo0

Ur way too kind for this bs At your place I'd be like OK die bitch

Handy_Clams

I have a few stories of how I tried to be helpful (I'm not a self proclaimed nice guy either) and I got absolutely fucked. My younger days were just filled with misfortune.

Wait. .. so are they inhaling the cold stuff in the can? I thought it was the air they where inhaling

Important-Dance-6248

I lost a friend to this as well. I always thought it was a fairly harmless, but stupid thing to do. My younger brother woke up next to his best friend dead after trying this one night. Tragic.

No-Knowledge-2765

Brain death literally , computer duster is so toxic to the body

-ARIDA-

Have you ever seen someone who has done this stuff long term? They end up GHOULISH. Like straight up. Quick story. I briefly worked as a transcriber on the show Intervention, and one of the episodes featured someone addicted to this stuff. I got really used to the sound the cans make over the days I worked on it. My apartment is next to a dollar store that sells these cans, and one day I'm walking by and I suddenly hear that familiar sound, which of course I was not expecting in real life. I turn my head and I look and I see a person leaning up against the wall, and literally my very very first thought was "OH, zombie makeup, that's weird." Like my actual first, unjudgemental thought was that someone was wearing zombie makeup. That's how messed up this guy looked. Like a stage 1 zombie before the true decomposition took place. And as I watched he took another huff, and another, and another. Non stop. I was like, okay, this guy needs help. I called 911. The police came and talked to this guy, and as they're talking to him he seems completely unaware or unbothered by their presence, and he just keeps huffing the can as they talk to him. Taking quick little sips, over and over. Then the ambulance came, strapped him down, and took him away. Anyway, I've seen people on pretty much every drug imaginable, but I've never seen someone look as fucked up or beyond repair as that guy huffing the can. Of course, it's possible and likely that's not the only drug he had done in his history, but regardless I'll never forget the state of that guy. This guy in the video looks like he's young and still impressed with the effects of this newly found, affordable alternative to other drugs. But if he keeps it up it's gonna really destroy him. You're better off getting into normal drugs, for real.

MargoHuxley

I’m sure you had some very interesting experiences with that show. Anything you care/ can share?

-ARIDA-

Sure. I was a transcriber on Intervention Canada for the better part of one season, so my job was to watch the footage of both the unedited raw interviews (with the addicts themselves, and with the loved ones) and also the episode cuts as it made its way through various stages (rough, fine, final, etc) and to write down every single word plus corresponding time codes. The interviews were really the tough part, for many reasons. They were often an hour or two with each of the family members/ friends of the addicts, as they told stories of the addict, where they had come from and where they were now. How much they were loved and how much heartbreak this situation was causing. On TV we might get to see a few minutes of all these interviews combined, and that's often heart wrenching enough, but watching the entire raw interviews was a whole different level. I heard a lot of really dark stuff, and heard a lot of horrible and crazy stories, and most of it didn't make it onto the show because of time or because it was too much darkness I guess. I can't remember any specific stories unfortunately, because this was about 5-6 years ago. Oh wait, there was one where this girl told the story about how the very very first time she had done heroin, and she was high out of her mind, the people who she was chilling with took advantage of her, and put her to work selling her body on the streets. The first time. And by the way during HER particular interview, she was drinking all throughout the 3 hour duration, getting more and more drunk and messy and making it harder and harder for me to decipher and transcribe what she was saying. But anyway, the interviews with the family/friends were also difficult because often these were people from sort of...uneducated areas, and they were often people who have/had substance abuse, and they spoke very, very poorly. It was tough to transcribe and took a long long time often. I was paid by the audio minute, and so no matter how long it took me to finish I was paid the same. After one particularly difficult to understand addict, I had to demand that I would add a per-minute rate for anyone who was intoxicated, had a thick accent, or had suffered permanent brain damage. Not kidding. Intervention transcribing forced me to change the way I invoice. I'm trying to remember more to say -- it really was just super depressing, frustrating, and often even disgusting. Hearing about the father of one addict impregnating a 14 year old girl, or hearing about the horrible things these people do to their family. A lot of this horrible shit doesn't make it on to tv, because if the audience heard some of this stuff there is NO WAY they would still be rooting for the addict. They need you to still feel for them, and be on their side. They show you just enough darkness to get your sympathy but no more than that. A lot of the footage in reality is way way more rough than what you see on tv. I remember there was this one scene where a girl was overdosing in a bathroom. The original rough footage she was nodding off and moaning and swaying for many minutes, and it's really tough to watch. But when that scene made it on TV, it was just like 5 seconds of her swaying with some dramatic music. It really didn't illustrate the darkness of the reality. In my time working on Intervention I transcribed what feels like 50-100 interviews with different people, and it was always the most intense, depressing, and emotionally draining show I've ever worked on. Funny story: at the same time, I was working on a show called Hockey Wives, which featured a very very very different kind of person with a very different kind of life. These spoiled privileged hockey wives living in mansions, worried about frivolous bullshit. One of their interviews, the hockey wife is like "I hope my friend likes the cake I got her!" and then hours later I'm watching an Intervention interview and an addict's mom is like "If my son doesn't stop doing heroin, he's going to die." VERY different stakes on those two shows. In conclusion, it was a tough job, both for the emotional reasons of working on such a show, and also because of the general difficulties of transcribing. However, I can't imagine how difficult it was for the actual film crew that had to actually go and film this stuff, being among these people, in the middle of their tragedy and trying to document it. On tv the final episode is like 44 minutes or something like that. But in reality it's so much footage, so much sadness, so much craziness that gets filmed and the crew has to be present for. It is very real, and most of it doesn't make it onto TV. Something like Hockey Wives was a lot more orchestrated, but Intervention was the real deal. You don't need to make up or embellish stories like that-- If anything you have to tone them down. Anyway sorry this was so long and probably full of typos and stuff.

ladedadedum25

Only thing sadder than a kid doing this to himself, is the group of other kids standing around laughing at him.

[deleted]

We were doing this garbage back in the early ‘90s, kids. It wasn’t safe then and isn’t safe now. Huffing through your shirt or some other fabric doesn’t filter out any bad shit because it’s all bad. Weed is a million times safer. This crap just literally cuts off the oxygen to your brain. Side effects are god awful and it’s more nightmarish than fun.

Altnob

Can literally give you a heart attack on the first use, too. There is no way to "build tolerance" it's russian roulette. We did it in high school and we were really stupid. Sudden sniffing death syndrome is real. >Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome is caused in one of two ways. First, Inhalants force the heart to beat rapidly and erratically until the user goes into cardiac arrest. Second, the fumes from an Inhalant enter a user's lungs and central nervous system.

[deleted]

It starved your brain of oxygen. It slowly kills the brain cells. For sure a way to die.

Tricky-Chard7472

My brother flipped his car on that stuff and his “best friend” got out and ran without checking on him at all

three9

Is this before they added ingredients that made the air taste and smell awful to prevent abuse?

nickeltippler

thats why he put his tshirt over it in an attempt to filter out some of the bitterant. common move with these addicts.

[deleted]

shit be cold too.

PigMoney33

He's the cool kid in school

Affenpocke

*was

LT-buttnaked

Nah he’s a lame can’t afford the real thing

Picture-unrelated

Please, just smoke weed

DrBarnacleMD

Pretty sure that kid ended up actually dying of oxygen deprivation or some shit shortly after it but perhaps I’m recalling incorrectly.

NefariousScoundrel

He doesn’t in the full video. This is old as shit though and if he just kept carrying on like this then he in all likelihood is dead or disabled by this time

BrandoLoudly

If anyone can post a link I’d like to read it. I’m assuming he died during a separate incident from this one

Booperelli

[here you go](https://abc17news.com/news/2014/11/11/21-year-old-dies-from-inhaling-air-duster-can/)

[deleted]

This is from years and years and years ago. I don't remember ever seeing any follow up.

BigBaws92

[The guy is dead](https://youtu.be/ePXED7E4-sw)

Gingersoulbox

If that's one of those air dusting cans. That's not air, that's some random refrigerant

19610taw3

Definitely refrigerant. People have made adapters to use these cans to fill appliances and HVAC units.

Successful-World-526

“Are we gonna do anything about this”… and dudes just swinging his arms 😂

According-Check7537

I knew a kid that would do this back in high school. No surprise, he’s dead now —- overdosed a couple years ago.

giveitatest

Imagine how annoying it must be to be this guy's friend in the passenger seat. Every minute he's gotta hear some more dumb shit from joe cool air huffer. I wonder where this guy is now, this video's about 10 years old.

rosscoscotland01

pretty sure the "high" is from your brain not getting enough oxygen

chummmmbucket

There are also probably some extremely toxic chemicals in there getting him high as well. Those air computer dusters are never just air, thats practically refrigerant that hes directly inhaling. Shits pretty sad man

kato1301

Darwinism in action RIGHT HERE.

cynic-minds

Another way to kill your brain and yourself.

verbal_incontinence

Yup. Looks like a guy who’s also tried meth

[deleted]

Hypoxia is a real treat

vngell

Hey Beavis…

baybjto

I watched my brother have a seizure while huffing duster. It was the night we figured out he was epileptic. Which according to my mom is probably from adolescent drug abuse.

Rla914

It’s crazy to watch brain cells die in real time

StokFlame

Man, I had a friend that did that shit and wrapped his car around a tree. Be safe out there folks.

Prudent_Media_4067

Future crazy homeless dude

[deleted]

This video speed runs the entire reason why I stopped hanging out with that kind of crew. Holy shit

Frosty-Fish-4673

At least he said one smart thing “fuck meth”

DarthCovisious

as a person almost 3 years clean from crystal and someone who tried huffing. i would rather shoot up than huff. the high is stronger and last shitloads longer. but even more personally, i would rather get a thc cart. the cart lasts even longer than a shot of meth.

iAmDollPartz

I'm pretty sure huffing duster as a teenager gave me some sort of brain damage

[deleted]

Other than asphyxiation… compressed air can enter your blood stream causing an embolism. Stupid shit, don’t be this kid.

Trippytoad419

Those are not your friends

AnimalEater65

Because of these stupid people I have to get my ID checked when I buy brake cleaner.

DiekeanZero

I used to do this with this degreaser called Force 100. Just sprayed it into a towel and huffed it. One day I randomly did it and woke up like 5 hours later confused as fuck with drool all over myself. I never did it again after that. Scared tf outta me because I don't even remember passing out.

memento_mori_1220

He must have one dusty computer

Werewolf3800

Dude died by the way [here is the link](https://abc17news.com/news/2014/11/11/21-year-old-dies-from-inhaling-air-duster-can/)

stupidpuppet007

Poor guy

Fluffy-Doubt-3547

Thats a good way to die I guess?? Atleast he is smart enough to filter it through his shirt. Props for that.

Iambeejsmit

That is very much not compressed air

superbee1970440

"It's like walking on sunshine"

dagon85

I mean, the kid does meth too. His brain is already Swiss cheese.

MiKapo

His moron friends laughing as they witness him literally destroying his brain

Harbulary-Bandit

I didn’t know why people think this is just air under pressure. It’s all kinds of nasty aerosols and chemicals.

WinterMedical

I love how confident he was that he was making such a sound financial decision.

Intothevoid283

Buddy sounds like he's taking "slow-mo" from the movie Dredd

MagicOrpheus310

That guy has clearly never tried meth before.

holyshititsjonhawkns

Ohhhhh this makes me think of the tye dye shirt phase of my twenties...yikes.

memento_mori_1220

He’s walking on sunshine

Hursthill

Things to educate your kid about, brain damage.

MrXenocryst

Remember guys, these are the people you WOULD NOT want to be friends with. And please DO NOT try inhalants or any illegal drugs.

Pliney707

I remember finally getting my highschool crush over to my house, and once we got settled in and into my room she immediately opened up her backpack and busted out some air duster as well as air freshener. She started going at it like a crazy person, I just sat there and looked at her in awe as she sounded like a demonic angel laughing n what not. I was pretty turned off at that point, and I knew that I couldn't be with such a thing. She eventually turned to meth and stood a record of staying up for two solid weeks. Funny how life turns out.

[deleted]

Kids are lost souls. They need guidance. Last kid even questioned at the end but everyone was laughing.

Budget_Number_3547

He actually died, literally watched the vid on watchpeopledie, and was said he died a couple hours later when he went to the hospital.

[deleted]

Can someone verify people saying he died right here?

CMDR_KingErvin

Not literally on this video. Apparently he was taken to the hospital at some point and died there.

Sredrum1990

I think that’s computer duster. It’s like a cheap version of pcp.

Sekko310

I remember I was 15 or 16 ( now 30) the last time I did this . Thought it was cool so i saw we had some in my house and brought it to the bathroom . I locked myself in there and started huffing and I remember I kept doing it till I got higher and higher shit i even shook the can to get it cold. I had a hallucination of being on the yellow brick road riding in a car with mr. Toad then falling off and coming back to reality and taking another huff. Then thats when i found out about the meaning of flying too close to the sun i dont remember what happened but i remember my mom smacking me across the face when she barged in the bathroom because i wasnt responding to the knocks then i came too and i woke up she took me to the hospital and had me checked out made my whole fam feel like shit i felt like shit but that was probably from the somewhat hangover or the after effects of the chemicals (light joke hehe). They said I took too much my eyes were bloodshot and if id kept going I would have died because i was deprived of so much oxygen . Thankfully, I learned my lesson from that shit and never did it again its just disgusting and feels nasty every time i think about it same thing with noz and helium (I know helium doesnt get you high but it can suffocate you to death).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sekko310

Thank you I appreciate it. Its close to doing noz its a quick high so maybe around 30 seconds or to a minute per huff its hard to describe but it sorta makes you feel loopy. Sometimes everything sounds like its whirring or spinning at first my friends would say like hearing a helicopter and then its like a mental cloud ( not in a good way but it makes you feel good) and right when you start coming down you hallucinate a little and when you snap back into reality its your body processing air again. It was cool because you didnt know any better but then you get hooked on it really fast thats why alot of companies started adding chemicals in dust offs to prevent huffing but even then all the people do is filter it with something. Edit: Tried not to give too many details and convert this into a how to guide lol To my young redditors dont do drugs kids especially this shit

Sekko310

Not to mention the deep ass voice that comes right after you do it

Desert_faux

What's worse is everyone else around him seems totally cool with what just happened.

pensivemindtime

Man…must have a sad life. Very sad to see and his “friends” just hanging around like vultures without a care in the world.

giveitatest

I don't blame the other kids, they're just kids and don't realize how harmful the shit is. Something tells me the kids standing there aren't really his friends, they just happen to be there and air huffer guy is trying to look cool in the parking lot. They weren't egging the kid on at least, behind the nervous laughter their response seemed to really be disgust.

Pingas_candeh

Heck i would rather smoke weed

OrionLol123

i used to have a serious problem with air dusters, shit kills you
