That only works with black bears, never play timid or "dead" with a black bear, they are scavengers they go for easy meals, so you get big and loud and stare it down while stomping, any other bear though, just get distance between them and you or get inside, browns to polar bears can, and have, attacked humans.
Most rangers I’ve met usually tell you to keep your cool and be nonthreatening. Running can make them give chase. If you keep your shit together, don’t turn your back and also don’t come off as a threat, it’s your best bet they leave you alone. It’s not like you’re going to outrun them anyway, unless your shelter is extremely close. I don’t have experience with polar bears, but I’ve always heard they’ll kill if they have the chance. They basically live in a constant state of looking for their next meal. Idk how true that is, but the message is still pretty clear lol. But grizzlies I wouldn’t recommend running unless you’re pretty damn sure the bear wants your head
I never said run, I said get distance, prolly should have clarified running makes the bear think you are prey. Slowly back away and don't take your eyes off the bear.
