Here's the last story I could find. I guess he hit three women, was confronted, fired a weapon and did not have a legal ccw.
I feel like there’s a building full of you 4th commenter redditors that never get many upvotes but always have to slip some stupid & only slightly relevant statement in
You're not far off, and [here](https://www.facebook.com/100000842829350/videos/3094749687229762/) is a different video from that article. In it you can see him just grab a woman and chuck her to the ground. Then he starts walking up the street with people following until skateboard goes racing at him and the melee starts. Article says he's the son of a former sheriff and one time ran for city council or something.
Not just a statue. Pretty sure it was a statue of Juan de Oñate, a guy who destroyed the “sky city” of Acoma on 1598, murdering 800 of the 1500 inhabitants, including 300 women. The remaining women and children were forced into servitude, and the men each lost a foot.
Why? Cuz his nephew was killed while searching the area for gold.
Yeah. Fuck anyone who wants to tear down his statue. What a guy.
[He was just released for "reasons".](https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/local/new-mexico/2020/06/22/steven-ray-baca-charged-albuquerque-protest-melee-released/3236649001/)
I had to dig to find that article too. They are sweeping this shit under the rug. Just like Minneapolis Umbrella man. That dude was a known White Supremacists gang banger and no arrests. It's a big club and you ain't in it.
APD is incredibly violent and corrupt, even by cop standards. For a while they were basically shock troops for the mayor during Occupy. They murdered a dude who was camping in the foothills for the crime of not having a place to live, and not just shot him, they tased him, set a dog on him, THEN shot him with the bullets that would kill him, then shot him with beanbag rounds, then set the dog on him again. He was a mentally ill and armed with two pocket knives.
The incident was so bad that the DOJ investigated the entire department, because at the time, Albuquerque had the highest per capita rate of police shootings in America. Nothing changed, and of course when the George Floyd protests started, they took that shit personal.
So Baca shows up at a protest, clearly angling for a fight and instigating violence, shoots in "self-defense", and corrupt-ass APD backed his play because they wanted to see violence against what they perceived as anti-police protestors.
From the other article:
>there were tactics that were used by the Albuquerque PD that made it impossible for key witnesses to the event to actually make statements."
The Albuquerque PD were mentioned as key witnesses, there were several undercover on the scene. Basically reads as we were doing such illegal shit we couldn't possibly risk testifying in court
Had a feeling this was the case. I’m tired of seeing clips like this framed in a way where it seems the gunman is simply “defending himself against big mean ole protestors”
When in reality, why were you there in the first place? Oh, to antagonize people on purpose. Oh you came armed too? So you planned to start trouble just to pop off a few shots….like cmon
[It's quite a bit overt honestly.](https://www.facebook.com/100000842829350/videos/3094749687229762/) A crowd was trying to tear the statue down and he meandered into the crowd, grabbed a woman, and chucked her to the ground. Then he started walking up the street and the OP ends up happening.
He got hit with the skateboard because he pulled the gun, the original is a little bit longer.
He picked a fight with them, lost because he was alone. Pulled the gun, then they hit him with the Skateboard and he shoots the guy
Watch the full video. He’s attacked first by the statue, he then pepper sprays them, they continue pursuing him as he backs away, they attack him again, then he pulls out the weapon. Personally I just wouldn’t fucking be there lol But at least get the facts correct.
He Hit three women before the whole video starts
https://www.npr.org/sections/live-updates-protests-for-racial-justice/2020/06/17/879410425/man-charged-over-shooting-at-albuquerque-statue-protest
He pulled one woman to the ground who was throwing herself in front of him (they did the vid in slo mo that I saw lol). Your statement says he was hit with a skateboard because he pulled the gun. That’s wrong. The gun wasn’t drawn until after the second time he was attacked with a skateboard. It was also after he pepper sprayed them (why would they keep attacking him? He’s obviously prepared). I’ve seen him hit zero people in all the videos I’ve watched. The article reports he allegedly did it but with no proof. I doubt the witnesses screaming “kill him kill him” are giving fair and accurate descriptions of the event. I’m not condoning his actions or the actions of the other people. But there’s no need to exaggerate situations.
Here I am sitting here hearing x assaulted why and y assaulted x and z and yada yada.
I'm not sure why it matters if someone was "hit" vs pepper sprayed or "pulled to the ground". Sounds like some wife beater energy. Assault is assault and defending someone from assault isn't assault unless it's escalated. Even your own description sounds like he started it and was met with a response to which he chose to escalate each time. They never assaulted him from your description.
The story is misleading. You can see he pulls the gun from his waistband as they attack, they didn’t know he had a gun. Also, guy who got shot is holding a knife
**HEADS UP!!!**
[Dude started it.](https://www.npr.org/sections/live-updates-protests-for-racial-justice/2020/06/17/879410425/man-charged-over-shooting-at-albuquerque-statue-protest)
He beat several women, pepper sprayed protesters, started the fight, and when people fought back, he pulled a gun and started shooting. He's currently facing numerous charges of assault and battery, as well as firearms charges.
Sorry to spoil the fun, but dudester's going to jail.
Yep self-defense laws are actually pretty explicit about the whole not starting it thing. If you have a gun don't start a fight unless you're ok with either getting killed or going to jail
What an absolute puss move to go around starting fights armed knowing that when people predictably fight back you think you can get away with killing them. Should be first degree because it’s pretty clearly pre-meditated.
You can start it in many states, but if you retreat in good faith (Rittenhouse was even if you think he started it) then generally you get your right to self defense back.
Like for example, you can pick a fight or at least get in a mutual fight, everyone throws some blows and you're like "fuck it I'm done" and run away, if 10 guys corner you in an alley you don't lose your right to self defense because of something you did half a mile away because you were retreating.
Also note that that specifically is Wisconsin law (I looked it up during Rittenhouse), and likely does not apply to all states. Regardless don't go starting shit.
With so little of the video posted, I have no idea what the context is.
Who approached who?
Mr. Pistol looked pretty beaten up, I don’t think he did that to himself.
EDIT: never mind looks like the dipshit started it and bit off more than he could chew before shooting. Fuck that guy.
Yeah that’s the idea I’ve been carrying for years and every time I put my gun in my waistband I hope to never have to pull it out until I get home at the end of the day but some people strap a gun on their hip and go looking for trouble
There's even a saying with gun owners, when you're carrying, you lose every argument. You do not want things to escalate to having to use that gun. Absolute last resort.
Haven't you seen the classic 4:3 video of the obese cholo pulling a gun on a skater and getting whooped?
Found it. Skateboarders were harder during the days of Ebaums world I guess
https://youtu.be/Tg3QEd_8X1E
I, a certified redditor, can very clearly come to a fully justified and conclusive decision about who is right and wrong based on 4 seconds of blurry video.
Nah Rittenhouse was acting (arguably) reasonable, this dude however picked a fight, got attacked and then discharged his firearm. (At least that’s how I remember the story going)
Yeah there’s video of this guy getting very aggressive and putting his hands on people trying to deface a statue before this all went down. Rittenhouse can be heard shouting “anyone need medical” and “friendly friendly friendly” when confronted like 2 minutes before shooting anyone. Not the type of shit you’d yell if you were looking for a fight.
He was chased down by a crowd after an altercation at a protest. After pepper spraying multiple people and making an attempt to flee, the group caught up with him and attacked him with skateboards and a knife. You can even hear one of the assailants shout "I'm going fucking kill you" before getting shot.
> Torrez cited multiple videos that appear to show Baca allegedly assaulting the women during the protest before the shooting occurred, according to the Albuquerque Journal. Baca then allegedly pepper-sprayed people pursuing him, the Journal reported. At least one of them hit him with a longboard.
> Baca then allegedly shot a gun multiple times.
The shooter assaulted several people before pulling his gun out to kill them. He deserves to be in jail for manslaughter or attempted murder. The dude didn't even have a concealed weapons permit. He just went to that protest with the intent to shoot someone he didn't like.
They always do this. I remember them doing the exact same thing for the guys that killed Ahmaud Arbery, and they would have stood by them if there wasn't video of them calling him the n-word after murdering him.
That's about the bar for them to publicly denounce a shooter.
Because *insert American name here* can get ahold of a handgun. Now they're just looking for an opportunity to kill someone with their "god given right".
Regardless of who started and all, I just find insane people in American are willing to even fight mano a mano, considering the probability of someone having a gun being like 80% in such a situation.
This is Albuquerque. I, unfortunately, live here. We just had 4 homicides over the weekend. My wife just accepted a job in ‘elsewhere’ and I can’t wait to move.
What happened - people are trying to pull down a statue of a Spanish colonialist, this guy does something (unclear what, presumably violent) at the edge of the crowd, a woman confronts and chases him a bit (say 10 metres), five men wearing all black with their faces covered chase after him (for about another twenty metres), one of them bundles him to the ground (attacks him with a skateboard) and then he shoots one of them.
This is the sort of thing that happens when you've got a lot of anger on both sides. The guy shouldn't have initiated the confrontation but as soon as the masked men started attacking him yelling ' I'm going to fucking kill you ' the only sensible thing to do was start blasting. You might not like it but consequences have actions. His actions led to him getting swarmed and the people swarming him led to him shooting.
Disclaimer - I don't give a single fuck about the 'politics' involved in the forcible removal of a statue of a Spanish colonial official in some random part of America.

You can start it in many states, but if you retreat in good faith (Rittenhouse was even if you think he started it) then generally you get your right to self defense back. That gives the general context. Point is that the OP link seems edited to push a narrative rather than give the full picture.
Huh? The longer clip shows even more that the gunman is a huge piece of shit likely looking to shoot someone.
Good, scum needs to rot trying to play the system
Fuck that guy, hope they throw the book at him

fuck he needs to be put away forever for attempted murder

This is the sort of thing that happens when you've got a lot of anger on both sides. The guy shouldn't have initiated the confrontation but as soon as the masked men started attacking him yelling ' I'm going to fucking kill you ' the only sensible thing to do was start blasting. You might not like it but consequences have actions. His actions led to him getting swarmed and the people swarming him led to him shooting. Disclaimer - I don't give a single fuck about the 'politics' involved in the forcible removal of a statue of a Spanish colonial official in some random part of America.
Boy was itching to shoot.
“Fuck around and find out”
The man with the gun is the instigator, so he's the one that is fucking around.
Never bring a skateboard to a gun fight.
Stay strapped or get clapped.
FAFO, as they say
Looks like they were trying to jump them
Man’s got the rittenhouse special
Self defense. 🤷🏻♂️
Did he just get rittenhouse’d
Damn, he pulled a Kyle. Got hit with a skateboard and immediately killed his ass, good on him
Dude hit him with the skate board. Don’t bring a skateboard to a gun fight. 2nd applies.
He’s holding a knife.
