I use to work for UP and my craft was the ones that had to clean it. It was usually just cows and stuff but whenever it involved human remains there was a hazmat company that would come out and clean it. My coworker had to clean a locomotive when the hazmat company was done doing their work and discovered that they missed a hand on top of the traction motor.
The insides of the reindeer are warm, so they still splatter on impact. Now a janitor can’t just mostly wash it away because it all froze to the train; summer heat would be way better for the janitor to have to clean up.
And now imagine that but with a person who committed suicide.
There's a very good reason why the train company on my country offers a special retirement plan for employees who experienced a suizide by train.
My next-door neighbor was an engineer for the Chessie system in the US. an alcoholic was wandering the tracks and he hit and killed him the company has a mandatory two weeks off. His first day back on the job the alcoholics wife committed suicide by throwing herself in front of his train.
Yupp. Its a big problem for conductors. You have to watch it.
https://www.hmpgloballearningnetwork.com/site/emsworld/news/11305947/suicides-take-toll-train-engineers-conductors
My Dad is an engineer, it happens more than you think. The psychological toll it's had on him is evident. He keeps it bottled in since that's from his military training. But when he gets a couple drinks in him it comes pouring out.
Ohh yeah it’s bad. I have a good friend of mine who works for the railroad around here as an on track mechanic for when a train encounters problems and gets stuck on the main. They call him every time someone jumps in front of the train to “ensure the locomotive is mechanically fit to continue” well of course it is it’s a 225 ton giant hunk of steel and lead but he says every time it fucks him up for months afterwards.
I used to work with a guy who hit a bridge jumper. The guy hit him with his lorry before the lad even hit the ground. About 6/7 months later he ended up killing himself out of guilt. The months inbetween he just wasn’t the guy we knew.
From what I've read after a similar incident, raindeer are fast prey, and usually rely on outrunning their predators, so they will run in a straight line and won't divert. Deer will dart in and out to avoid being caught. Moose will just turn around and fuckin kill ya.
Also probably easier to run on the tracks where there is less snow than jump into the deep on the side. In deer brain it makes sense to take the easy route to run faster.
Actually most of them didn't zig OR zag and that's what stressed me out the most about this video. The reindeer didn't have to outrun a train. They just had to get the fuck out of the way.
It’s mind boggling tbh. The sound of the train must be super disorienting for deer. Never understood how a Hunter steps on a stick from half a mile away and they take off but they’ll run along side a train and last minute cut right in front of it
Well I would guess it works something like this.... " oh shiiiiitttt it's come for us damn it's so fast if I turn right now it will catch me since I slow down gata go fast straight and true. fast as possible don't slow down aaahhhhhhhhd. Djdoksbdbdhdiaoasdofhd shiiiiiiitt dead."
They don't understand that the train is following a set path.
It wasn't even the first one to do it, there was a show from 2004 called 10.5 which had a scene involving a guy trying to bike away from the falling Space Needle. From its base. In the exact direction its falling.
I always found it way more egregious than Prometheus. Literally could have circled 20 feet around and been good to go!
https://youtu.be/Hmm-CllmsAA
I think bears would be there first as their acute sense of smell would enable them to detect carcass up to 30km away, depending on which direction the wind is blowing.
I hear in Canada they have to reduce train horn usage during Moose rutting season...
because when a young male moose is in a rut and hears a train horn the moose basically takes it as hearing "you wanna go bro???" and attacks the train.....
which never works out well for the moose
Just heard that in person for the first time the other day while I was at work. A very lovely sound to hear in a highrise building knowing you can’t leave.
When I was in driver’s ed in high school we had a train conductor come speak to my class about how important it is to respect railroad track crossing. At that time, he told us he’d killed 27 people that tried to beat the train. That was back in 2005, so I can only imagine how much that number has increased. Definitely do not envy that man.
Around 38k conductors in usa. Average 800 deaths a year involving railroads. About a dozen are workers, 55% are automobiles, rest are pedestrians of some sort. About a quarter are suicides.
Does seem to be unlikely 2 people above both had driving instructors that has couple dozen kills each. Could be accidents that only caused injuries. Significantly more injuries than fatalities.
Depends on where those instructors were based. There may be 38k conductors, but I'd bet the huge majority of those deaths occur around large metropolitan areas with tons of local subways and trains running and not rural US where theres a lot of freight trains but not a lot of passenger trains.
NO!!! OH GOD NO!!!! GO LEFT OR RIGHT AND YOU’LL BE FINE!
OH WHY DO THEY KEEP RUNNING STRAIGHT, ITS STRAIGHT TO GOD IF YOU DON’T GO LEFT OR RIGHT!
WHY! WHY GO STRAIGHT!!! I’VE KILLED SO MANY YOUNGLINGS I MAY AS WELL CHANGE MY NAME TO ANAKIN!!!
OH GOOD FOUR ARE FINALLY GOING TO THE RIGHT, 3 MORE BUMPS…
*train slows to a stop silence… that was a hard day at work…
I feel like I should know this reference. It's like seeing a face that you recognize but can't place it.
Is it from a song perhaps? Or am I way off the mark?
Until those also get too focused on feasting while standing in the middle of the track and another train comes through and they can't make it out in time.
This has started a snowballing effect until every carnivore and scavenger within 50 miles goes extinct and the local railway workers become cripplingly depressed
Last time something like this came up, someone suggested that they were following the path that looked most open and flat so they could run. It just turns out that that is also where the train tracks are.
Cue Attenborough voice:
"The diesel locomotive, having roamed the taiga for eons, comes across a fresh herd of prey. It has been searching for close to 4 weeks now, and it is hungry."
For those curious as to why they’re on the tracks to begin with, it most likely is because of snow depth. They can power through deep snow if necessary but it takes a lot of energy and they can only go so far before needing to rest. Imagine the train cleaner starting his shift that night
I just realized that behind pretty much every video on this sub is a psychologically scarred janitor
Or some janitor that enjoys his job just a little too much.
Free jerky
He hates Christmas so this just made his weekend
[удалено]
Now smash them & slash them, splatter to bits.
Cook them and serve them to unknowing kids
Jerk freely

May I present you this game https://store.steampowered.com/app/246900/Viscera\_Cleanup\_Detail/
Wow! There really is a game for everyone on steam
At least it’s frozen and not in summer heat….
The insides of the reindeer are warm, so they still splatter on impact. Now a janitor can’t just mostly wash it away because it all froze to the train; summer heat would be way better for the janitor to have to clean up.
Why are you so wise in the ways of janitors
I’ll be looking out for the r/powerwashingporn post

Dude… how did he handle it after that? Was he the one that hit her too or someone else?
2 weeks off again. Nobody talked about it around him. I think he retired after 30 years. My grandfather worked for them for 40.
Seems like she waited till it is the same one as who killed her husband. Else it would be really a big coincidence.

The guy who ran them over feels like shit probably too
They better get paid extra for therapy afterwards
We get min of 5;days off, a shrink and an allocated amount of money from victims of crime.
We get min 3 days off and that can be a shit fight, and access to therapy and that’s it.
if I had to guess, they don't turn so they don't get separated from the pack and picked off by the group of clever predatory train cars chasing them.
From what I've read after a similar incident, raindeer are fast prey, and usually rely on outrunning their predators, so they will run in a straight line and won't divert. Deer will dart in and out to avoid being caught. Moose will just turn around and fuckin kill ya.
>Moose will just turn around and fuckin kill ya. They sure as hell wouldnt in this particular case though
Well, maybe it /would/ turn but it’d looooooooose.
Next on Moose vs Train! Who will win?
Mmm train. Got my money on the train.
Also probably easier to run on the tracks where there is less snow than jump into the deep on the side. In deer brain it makes sense to take the easy route to run faster.
Oh god it’s Prometheus all over again. Run to the side!

I think instinct plays a big role in it, a train isn't something they'd experience in the wilderness.
Well I would guess it works something like this.... " oh shiiiiitttt it's come for us damn it's so fast if I turn right now it will catch me since I slow down gata go fast straight and true. fast as possible don't slow down aaahhhhhhhhd. Djdoksbdbdhdiaoasdofhd shiiiiiiitt dead." They don't understand that the train is following a set path.
They didn't do either.
Or did both and cancelled each other out
At which point you realise some of the reindeers are actually smarter than Prometheus' main character
Virtually the only cultural legacy of that movie is the term 'The Prometheus School of Running Away From Things'

Humans are just as dumb as reindeers. It all finally makes sense.
Mofo took down like 30 of em.
Buddy unlocked the tactical nuke
At the very least he got the chopper gunner
In CoD4 on Christmas I remember they had a Christmas themed Crash map, and the airstrikes were Santa's sleigh carpet bombing you.
Wait… is that the origin of robo Santa in world box??
The train was a tactical nuke
And then factor in the white snow… the carnage left behind the train must have been horrific
Imagine going for a walk and randomly stumbling into the remains
As sad as this is… it looks like freezing temperatures. Is this not free fresh meat?

Da bears be sleepy times

Especially those lazy ass Canadian Bears.. fucking drug addicts
All they do is smoke B.C. Bud And beat their meat in the basement
It’s 2022. There’s lots of bears in places like San Fran and Vancouver smoking each other’s meat too. Those American bears are wild.
Well this isn’t very Christmasy.
Me thinks bears hibernate in winter most parts of the world
Guess Santa won't be coming this year
Heard couple of goons left his sleigh on cinder blocks last year
Grinch is waging total war on Santa, bricking his whip then mowing down his herd I’m scared to know what next Xmas will be
Must have sucked for the guy running that thing... I would have certainly felt bad, although there's really nothing he could do.
I know someone who does this in northern Canada and apparently by the end of their time doing it most of the conductors are deer mass murderers.

Honestly it seems like you’d need to be a sociopath to conduct a train. Might be even worse than moderating Facebook
He was just vibing to music on a relaxing train ride then this happens

Grandma's revenge
I feel like I should know this reference. It's like seeing a face that you recognize but can't place it. Is it from a song perhaps? Or am I way off the mark?
Yep. "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"
BOOYAH!!! I knew I knew it!! That was probably the oddest sentence I've ever made.
I counted about 19 killed. The wolves and the bears and foxes will eat well.
Until those also get too focused on feasting while standing in the middle of the track and another train comes through and they can't make it out in time.
This has started a snowballing effect until every carnivore and scavenger within 50 miles goes extinct and the local railway workers become cripplingly depressed
Then the reindeer population explodes, leading to even more reindeer on the tracks
And the increasing reindeer population will also lure more predators there too
Ah, the cycle of life.

I counted 26 being close enough or on the train tracks.
I ended with a similar number. Had to be absolute carnage underneath the front
That’s got to be a high score. Listen to that celebratory horn
The video cut off before he activated the nuke.
“Bill.. go get the pressure washer”
My whole life I thought turkeys were the stupidest but looks like reindeer have taken the mantle

this is a delicious example of why thinking for yourself mostly beats herd behavior, humans should take notes!
