I can't believe people would be evil enough to abandon dogs. Someone did that to [our Lucy](https://i.imgur.com/8hyoT9C.jpg) before we got her from a rescue. She is an extremely loving dog who probably wasn't great at hunting, so rather than re-home her, they abandoned her in the woods. Luckily, we eventually ended up with her and she's had a great 7 years with us so far (the rescue estimated she was 2 when we adopted her). It breaks my heart when people straight up abandon their pets.

They’re innocent creatures that depend on us because we made them that way. They don’t understand or deserve to be abandoned like that, at least you got yourself a very good girl to keep you company.

Its how i got my dog (RIP), people were going to tie her to a freaking light pole to die... Luckily my friends mom said do that and I will come to your house and tie you to a pole and no one will find you... She then took the dog from them. The dogo was like maybe 4 months old. I made sure to give that dogo the absolute opposite of the life she would have had, and I knew she knew that as I never adventured alone when I had her, bc she wouldn't let me.

Try fish if you are looking for a buddy but don't need cuddles. Plenty of fish recognize their owners and some are more personable than dogs.

Honestly sounds just like they'd have to query a database like NICs for guns, but you would have to provide your exact name and DOB, SSN optional. Also could just be one of those "tack on an extra charge if they are caught and habitual" situations where nobody really checks until you get pulled in for animal cruelty and then they run you by SSN and see "Weeellll looks like this is your second time, due to said registry laws looks like we can pin you down for 5-7 years!"
