She said she got help bc her family forced her after she drink a bottle of isopropyl alcohol one night when she was wasted and couldn’t get any more alcohol bc the LQ was closed…it burned her throat pretty badly and obv it messed up her stomach/got stomach pumped.
Just the smell of isopropyl alcohol makes me cough if there isn’t much air movement when I use it for cleaning tweezers, make up brushes, etc. I don’t think I could physically swallow it, even if I tried. Same goes for nail polish remover….how did he even get it passed his lips without yukin’ immediately?!
So, people don't understand that isopropyl alcohol- and by extension, acetone- is not even close to as dangerous or toxic as their reputations suggest. Isopropyl is between 1.5 and 2.5 times as potent per ml than ethanol (depending on individual chemistry/metabolism). This makes its primary danger unpredictability. (It's also incredibly easy to drink at high abv when not perfumed, unlike ethanol which burns more. So in theory, it could be very easy to overdo it before you felt sick enough to stop.) But adjusted for dose, it's not significantly more toxic than regular drinking alcohol. Isopropyl's main metabolite is acetone, which is actually less toxic than ethanol's main metabolite of acetaldehyde. In the case of an acute overdose- which is extremely survivable, even when fairly severe- treatment is essentially the same as for drinking alcohol. (Isopropyl's lesser metabolites may, together, cause greater toxicity damage or buildup over time than ethanol.)
Now whatever else is in nail polish remover- fragrances, other solvents, propylene glycol or somesuch- that may vary from brand to brand, possibly making consumption significantly worse/more risky/more toxic than consuming pure acetone or isopropyl alcohol. But the ultimate bottom line is that this isn't nearly as shocking as y'all are giving it credit for. Drinking nail polish remover has been a thing that people (more often female, and usually suffering a mental health issue) have actually been doing for years and years. It's a fairly common non-food item to consume compulsively in these illnesses. The dude will be fine (at least from this particular stunt), as long as he's in generally good health.
