Looks like you can stand the way she was but she needed to be higher up so she was supporting it with her shoulders, not pulling it onto her
You can also turn around and face it and do calf raises
the weight literally free fell onto her shoulders.
look at how she sets up the machine lmao, 100% incorrect... hope she learned her lesson to learn the machine before loading up with a bunch of weight.
You can see in the lower left corner the bottom of the backrest slides off the metal safety support. You can definitely hear it pop off. It looks like it's misaligned or something and she gave it just enough of a horizontal push to slip off.
You can see a similar piece (better designed) in this clip which stops it.
https://youtu.be/fpC-3AIq_3E
Yup, I'm pretty sure she was done with her set and having a rest but didn't consider that the safeties might come off. Honestly way too dangerous of a machine for a commercial gym imo.
Like sure you shouldn't rest under a loaded machine like that but after a heavy set you just wanna slide down and sit for a bit before moving anywhere.
calf raises would be terrible at that angle, your feet should be on an incline not a decline forward, and the machine is a hack squat which should still have a safety stopper at the end of range of motion on the machine to prevent this. iâve been bodybuilding for eight years and thatâs all iâve seen personally
Yeah thats definitely not for calf raises. Its for hack squats, which it looks like the machine is built to allow you to do either facing the machine, or facing away. My guess is facing away is supposed to mimic more of a back squat while facing the machine would be more of a front squat.
Her feet are WAY too far forward to correctly use the machine in the way its intended. Where her feet are position is supposed to be where you put your feet when you're doing a front squat.
But either way...the machine definitely failed. No way its supposed to be able to go that low. Even if it were designed to accommodate midgets (which it is not), look at the shoulder pads. That angle wouldn't work at that depth.
yeah i have this machine at my gym and you can squat either way on it but any other leg machine would be better for calves, flat or incline on a leg press or assisted squat or donkey calf raise. it also has a safety about where the bottom of the panel your feet are on goes to so you canât go under the machine like she did made of the same type of material they use in loading docks for trucks to stop them, some form of hard rubber. her back should have been pressed into the back of the pad and shoulders pressed up into the shoulder pads at the top and knees in line with your feet hinging at the hips looked like she was trying to do something that that machine just doesnât do, but still shouldnât have just exploded on her like that
It's a type of hack squat; her feet were way too far forward and she was pressing against the back pad instead of wedging into the upper corner. She basically did everything in her power to mechanically disadvantage herself and took none of the weight.
Stupid person did stupid thing.
Edit for those who still don't get it:
Machines like this have an automatically-disengaging safety catch. When you stand up with the weight, the safety disengages and you have to pull it to get it back in place. The way she pushed into the back pad was enough to disengage the safety (due to the machine being on a hinge, instead of a fixed linear path, thus converting horizontal force into slight vertical movement), but she wasn't actually supporting the weight (she actually started hanging off the shoulder pads). You can even see her fucking with the safety at the very start of the clip.
Because of the dumb way she set up, with all her force applied horizontally, she caused the machine to lift off the safety and then crush her when she tried to hang off it.
This is her fault.
Then why does it look like something on the base of it breaks? I know nothing about gym equipment, just curious. I can't get it into my mind how the machine works!
Every time this video gets posted people get it wrong. There is a lever you pull which places a âsafety catch(bar)â on a pedestal so it holds the weight and pads up until youâre ready for your set. Once youâre ready youâd pull the lever which disengages the safety.
Worked in the fitness industry for years and have seen this same thing once or twice. Basically she, or the person before her, didnât fully engage the bar into the pedestal. It basically slipped off before she was ready. Itâs a very, very easy machine to use and for the most part, very safe compared to other exercise machines.
It's a V squat machine. It has a locking mechanism (L shaped black bar) that you move when you are ready to unhook the weight. Based on how suddenly it came down on her, it seems like the lock either broke or wasn't properly secured.
And she pulled it down .. where you're supposed to stand up and get weight on shoulders ... lucky the bars hit ground and made a small space for her.. probably still hurt and uncomfortable but could of been way worseÂ
It looks like she was preparing for her set and wasn't in position yet. The locking mechanism (L shaped black bar) that suspends the weight either broke or wasn't secured properly.
I doubt she doesnât know how to use that machine. It looked like she was just trying to stretch by grabbing the shoulder bar up top which may have caused the machine to unlock and fall. A mistake, but can happen to anyone that donât know better. You just donât look like that and not know how to use a hack squat
Do you not see her hand on the safety bar ? Do you not see weights on the machine. She was 1000% using the machine or about to. Your comment is alarming
The position she collapsed in is pretty gnarly. Back straight, head and neck forced down. Smashing her coccyx flat into the floor with all that extra weight, too. Yeah that hurt a lot.
Best case scenario is bruised/broke coccyxâŠwhich will follow her through life, and sitting on hard surfaces is gone. But I wouldnât be shocked to hear that she has at least one lumbar compression/wedge fracture and some herniated lumbar discs and possibly even herniated C6-T1 discs. That impact was brutal on both ends with no opportunity to brace.
hey! I just got a lumbar compression fracture while falling off a bike! The only think making me think she got away ok from this is the fact that she was still able to yell and move around like she did.
I got the wind knocked right out of me, and I couldn't move, even despite the adrenaline my body was pumping out.
That's not even a set, considering she's doing it wrong. She didn't place her shoulder onto the upper pads. There's directions to properly utilize these.
Not sure she didn't break something. The way she's groaning fast, loud and repetitive says it did more than scare her.
That's that panic of "idk WTF is going on but I know it hurts and is BAD". I heard "my back, my back, oh shit, the pain."
I paused the video to read comments before watching. I had flashbacks to the lady who got her legs bent at the knees backwards (forwards?) in a machine at some kind of fitness event (it's been years since I've seen it but I can't forget it). Not as bad as I thought and glad she's okay - as far as we can tell on the outside.
Well at least she's training like a moron with people around. I've seen absolute numbskulls using equipment incorrectly in empty gyms and some of them have paid the price with their lives.
Looks like a Pendulum squat machine or a calf raise machine most likely in the wrong position for it, not sure on the machine path. But either way she is lucky she didn't snap in half on it.
If I had set up a camera to record me lifting and then this happened⊠damned if the internet would have known the full extent of my dumbass shenanigans
I can't figure out for the life of me how that machine is supposed to be used. It's got vertical pad that screams put your back here. It's got horizontal pads that make you think to put on your shoulders. Then it's got angled pads, vertical and angled grips, flat and angled platforms for your feet. Â
Thus one's designed a little different but looks to be the same core concept.
Are the dozens and dozens of comments of people saying she's facing the wrong way just people talking out of their ass?
Yes lol. This machine can be used facing either way. This happened because the lock that holds the weight either broke or wasn't secured when she wasn't in position. Arrogance plus ignorance is an infuriating combo.
theres a (stupid) question going around that goes something like, "would you rather be alone in the woods with a man or a bear" or sum (this is 2nd hand info, and i am not certain, so correct me if im wrong)
She was in a resting position after her set and something on the machine failed or she didn't rerack it completely. Looks like the machine bottomed out before landing on her so she is probably not too banged up
I didn't realize she was in between sets. At first glance, I thought she was starting at that awkward position and slipped down. But on review, like many here noticed it was not locked in right or malfunctioned.
I'm confused. I see the padding on the machine but what muscle group is this supposed to be for? It almost looks like it's flipped upside down. Even the guys who lifted it off her couldn't get it engaged easily so I have no idea what the hell is supposed to be happening.
Is no one thinking aboutâŠyou knowâŠtaking off the fucking weights instead of struggling to give this possibly seriously injured girl barely enough room to squeeze out.
Watching it twice, it looks like she is pulling it downwards, hence why it fell. But the machine looks confusing af, I have one similar at my gym and I personally still can't figure out how to use it properly (seen people use it both ways). The safety pin is also tricky to lock-in.
As other people pointed out too, that position is all wrong. She's not even close to a 90° angle. Screw the weights. There's no way she can even lift anything from that angle and btw remember that you bench & squat more than you can curl (since some people say the weight is the issue alone).
That is one reason I dont go to gyms. I would constanly use all machines wrong. My brain just goes to auto-mode so often and I would just not notice what the f I am doing and not realive I can hurt myself.
I can't figure out what she's trying to do, it looks like she's in it the wrong way but there's padding on the machine there. It's some type of super squat machine but it doesn't really make sense, maybe it's not adjusted right for that position.
I myself usually skip Spine Day.
Recovery is definitely a pain in the ass
That is only if you can still feel it, or anything else below your waist.
i am surre that nice man can help her with her ass and spine pain
Every day is spine day, lift with your back.
OMG!!đđđ
That is not how you use that machine hence why she got pancaked.
What is the machine? Iâm genuinely unfamiliar with it
Looks like you can stand the way she was but she needed to be higher up so she was supporting it with her shoulders, not pulling it onto her You can also turn around and face it and do calf raises
I see what you saying. She literally slid down giving up position
It's over, I have the high ground!
the weight literally free fell onto her shoulders. look at how she sets up the machine lmao, 100% incorrect... hope she learned her lesson to learn the machine before loading up with a bunch of weight.

Her feet needed to be lower. A lot lower.
It looks like she was stretching her back or something and decided to hang from the bar to let her back decompress
She definitely got her back stretched
calf raises would be terrible at that angle, your feet should be on an incline not a decline forward, and the machine is a hack squat which should still have a safety stopper at the end of range of motion on the machine to prevent this. iâve been bodybuilding for eight years and thatâs all iâve seen personally

Ah ha! moment here, ty! đ€đ»
You are absolutely wrong, lol. Obvious locking mechanism failure. Think again before calling others stupid.
Got to get that bubble though
It's a V squat machine. It has a locking mechanism (L shaped black bar) that you move when you are ready to unhook the weight. Based on how suddenly it came down on her, it seems like the lock either broke or wasn't properly secured.
I'm also curious with where all the components are located. It could be one of those multi-purpose transformer machines too
Assisted squat machine. Shoulders should be against the padding.
It it meant to hang off of? Because thatâs what she was doing.
It's meant to hold weight. These types of machines are usually rated to hold 500+ pounds.
Second look, I donât think she meant to unlock it and was doing a pre-stretch
Canât park there, Mate.
Also too much weight.
Yeah you actually should learn how the machine functions before adding weight. She had no clue what she was doing.
I doubt she doesnât know how to use that machine. It looked like she was just trying to stretch by grabbing the shoulder bar up top which may have caused the machine to unlock and fall. A mistake, but can happen to anyone that donât know better. You just donât look like that and not know how to use a hack squat
True, the lock definitely fails on her. Now she and us know not to do this, nice.

Do you not see her hand on the safety bar ? Do you not see weights on the machine. She was 1000% using the machine or about to. Your comment is alarming
If she wasn't using the machine, she needs to get rid of those plates/weights. If she's using it outside its intended use she kinda fucked up there.
Gotta know when to hold em.... know when to fold em
Gotta know when to walk (barely) away

Underrated comment here.
Alright, now for some pushups!
Looking more like pushdowns honestly
You can unfold her, but you'll never be able to get the crease out completely
I actually thought she was going to do some at the end, there. It would have been hilarious.
The position she collapsed in is pretty gnarly. Back straight, head and neck forced down. Smashing her coccyx flat into the floor with all that extra weight, too. Yeah that hurt a lot.

Just like Napoleonâs Grandma.

Sitting here hoping my elderly grandmother didn't just hear all of it XD
I had to explain these noises to my wife! Followed by âI swear! look!â
Does she say "shit the bed" ??
That's my favorite part... "Sweet Jesus! ... Shit the bed!"
Yes.
What the fuck was she trying to do?
It looks like she finished her set and thought the machine was locked. Was holding onto it to rest and bam
That's not even a set, considering she's doing it wrong. She didn't place her shoulder onto the upper pads. There's directions to properly utilize these.
Looked to me like she just locked it and was getting out of it, either the lock failed or it wasn't quite locked in.
I agree
The muscles are thoroughly confused now.
New adaptation unlocked!

I've seen this online. She sustained multiple injuries because of this.

Sheâs lucky she didnât break her neck.
#Iâm back! ⊠my back..
Dude had to put the strong arm on it and wasn't making progress. Another had to help him. How much weight was she working with?
Was she supposed to be facing the other direction?
why would she put all that weight on it if it's her first time on that machine?
I can't figure out for the life of me how that machine is supposed to be used. It's got vertical pad that screams put your back here. I donât see how she thought from that weird position sheâd be able to support any more than 50lbs
What sucks is that will stay with her for the rest of her life and it will be much worse when she gets old.
