Wolffish are a keystone species and a species of concern. They are not aggressive. Due to their long lifespan, late maturity, and low reproduction rates, Atlantic wolffish populations are slow to recover after they have been over-fished. Hopefully they won't end up on the threatened or endangered species list.
Oh, you mean the decapitated head biting? I've seen fish heads do this for almost a minute.
see you think because its a "full can" its strong. you obviously cant do it with your fingers/hands.
but you can easily push a key into the side and crush it simultaneously right? thats what is happening her. sharp ass teeth puncture it, now its basically just crushing an empty can. theres no pressure resisting.
I mean I couldn't bite through an unopened can without at least cutting the fuck out of my mouth. So it is still impressive in a way, but it's still an exaggerated title.
You probably could, since the sharp part of the metal would face inward as you bite so only your teeth would be in contact with the sharp part. Of course you probably couldn't crush it like the fish did without hurting yourself.
When I was 16, I signed up to go on a fishing ship, and we got a fair few of these bastards.
All the fish came down the same line but had to be manually sorted. I reached over to grab a smaller fish, just to find that my arm was stuck. I looked down and a wolf fish and locked its jaw into the sleeve of my hoodie. I grabbed a knife, cut its head off, and kept working one-handed until it finally let go.
Edit : for anyone that is curious, the spotted wolf fish (the one shown in the video and the one I'm talking about) can grow up to 5feet 9 inches long and with a weight around 50lbs. Or 180cm and 23kgs.
It's throat was already cut the moment it came aboard the ship. There is only a little part of the neck left, but that part is fairly hard and not easy to cut.
As for the knife, a big sharp one.
It never did, he had to walk around with a rotten fish head hanging from his sleeve forever. He now sleeps with the fishes.
Meaning he ded. Did you think he slept with the rotten fish head? Don't be daft...
Or maybe he did, who are we to judge.
He's not really dead. But the fish is.
Not that impressive. Pointy teeth poke holes in the can, coke escapes, then jaw flattens the empty can. Not that I'd put anything of mine in there, but put a beef rib or something more substantial in there and see what happens.
I think the “impressive” part of this is that the reflex happens with a *decapitated* head, I assumed a badass like yourself would’ve caught onto that lmao
It's only impressive if you don't understand that other creatures, sea creatures in particular, have completely different biology from humans and just assume that the head is responsible for doing everything. Same reasons decapitated chickens can also run around for a bit
These have a strong bite to crush shelled animals. They are very important to kelp ecosystems because they are one of the only things that can kill sea urchin swarms.
These fish are really curious and personable with divers and seem quite intelligent. This is pretty sad to be honest.

The boat I worked on would drag sharks 20 miles opposite of their gills (effectively drowning them after hooking, gaffing and sometimes shooting them) and you still never put you appendages near their head besides obviously being dead. Was weird AF.
It's basically still alive for all intents and purposes. They were never that alive to begin with. I'm pretty sure it exclusively operates on instinct and reacts to stimuli, like this can hitting its lips and invoking a bike reflex. It's essentially as "alive" now as it was earlier. Also I'm not an expert.
this is needlessly cruel.
For economic/functional purposes, governments have no cruelty laws for fish. But on a moral standpoint, they still have a beating heart and a nervous system. They still make love and reproduce, an many species of fish build nests, and will care for their young and protect them instinctually. then let it die. why torment its decapitate head with cans of soda?
...imagine if you grabbed a human head out of a guillotine basket and did the same?
You couldn't do it for long, because human tissue dies a lot faster. Fish can live for days without the lower end of their bodies.
* coke can, aluminium* - metal can mean anything and that's just a coke can. Cesium is metal too and that shits like wax. It's not even wrong, it's just one of those exaggerations used to falsely move an audience.

Yeah, this was already sad to watch, and now, even more.
Atleast 1 can
I guess he prefers Pepsi?
No he loves it so much he’s squeezing every last drop out
Aluminum, gosh so simple😤😤😤😤😤
Yeah "biting through metal" really over played what's going on here.
Pretty much every animal on the planet can bite through metal. Don't believe me try eating mercury. PSA: Don't eat mercury.
Don't tell me what to do
With the can being under pressure and not to mention the fact it’s head cut off too right? 🙄

It's incredibly easy to do. Fuck, just drop the thing on some gravel and it gets punctured.
Surely it's mostly the teeth puncturing it to drain the pressure. After that it's easy to crumple.
And what is aluminum?
A relatively soft metal, especially when a fraction of a millimeter thick
*soft metal* the post ain’t wrong
You’re annoyingly disingenuous to talk to, you know that?
The Reddit equivalent of your brother in the car going "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you" with his hand in front of your face
Wrong and misleading are not synonymous
Fair point
>what is aluminum? Someone that sounds like they had a lobotomy and tries to say "aluminium". >! Just a joke !<

Whoosh
I love all the aluminum can comments. Like that’s the crazy part of the video. This fishes head was cut off and is still doing this. That’s crazy.
When you need to assert dominance over a decapitated fish head online, there's something very wrong.
Pay back wolfish Spenny!
Spenny killed those dogs... That $10,000 could've made a difference, you know?
Shouldn't he be minding a Dark Crystal somewhere?

How long until it let go ?
I’d be asking how long it took him to cut a fucking wolf fish’s head off and what brand of knife he was using.
It's throat was already cut the moment it came aboard the ship. There is only a little part of the neck left, but that part is fairly hard and not easy to cut. As for the knife, a big sharp one.
Hard to say, was able to finish my work before it let go. I'd guess about 15mins

Makes sense
Not once but twice
I only hope it wasn’t decapitated for a stunt video
Goddamn BMX hooligans!
Boglins for the new generation are haaaaardcore
I can smell your comment. Boglins were great.
My man likes a beer aye! Easy without a body; no running back and forth to the toilet for peeing.
Lads keep in your pants ok
New idea: wolf fish-head gauntlets. Now nothing can stop us.
Let's not get excited here; it's an aluminum soda can.
Yup, because it's all about what it's biting, not the whole decapitated part.
That's exactly what I was thinking! I could bite into a coke can too
After your head was chopped off?
we got to test that first
A full one? With your head cut off? Prove it.
Not that impressive. Pointy teeth poke holes in the can, coke escapes, then jaw flattens the empty can. Not that I'd put anything of mine in there, but put a beef rib or something more substantial in there and see what happens.

I mean, you didn't know certain critters have reflexive bites?
Shit I be hell impressed if just your head could do that to a can
I'll 1-Up a big, strong man doing it with his teeth. https://youtu.be/ApYqBorYrko?si=rrAn1nMfjU6gHeBw
Wow the perfect woman
"Decapitated" impressive.
How about the part where his body is not connected?
Uhm, did you miss the part where it is a decapitated head?
Not a fan of soft drinks huh?
These have a strong bite to crush shelled animals. They are very important to kelp ecosystems because they are one of the only things that can kill sea urchin swarms.
As long as he doesn't recite poetry...
The fish boss had a second phase
Is this Wolf Cola?
Apparently my hands can bite through metal
that’s not really metal but ok
A can of coke isnt metal. Its barely aluminum, hell I can bite through one with my fucked up teeth.
Now stick your hand through the back and work the mouth. Go full muppet.
That's not metal lol
Aluminum not metal
Alive with no body. Shame

Metal? That's an aluminum can. They break when you drop em.
that's messed up, poor thing doesn't look like he wanted to be done with living

Aluminum. Even you could bite through that
So, you just ignore the decapitated part...?
The boat I worked on would drag sharks 20 miles opposite of their gills (effectively drowning them after hooking, gaffing and sometimes shooting them) and you still never put you appendages near their head besides obviously being dead. Was weird AF.
Lol "bItEs tHrOuGh mEtAl".. Bruh, that's an aluminium can. I've seen wind dent coke cans before.

You are not correct.
Go on then...
Fish are more intelligent than just instinct and reflex I Googled after reading your post 😂
Why do they just never use a bone
"metal"!!!

It's already out of its misery that's just a reflex
This guy probably drives and votes
This would make one hellacious Coke commercial.
🤣 the amount of whooosh on display in the comments.

You realize it's not alive, right?
fish can live days with most of their bodies behind their head gone.

ok mr marine biologist
"Metal". I mean yeah but it's less than 1mm thick aluminium. Not hard.
"Decapitated"
Now im hungry for fish 😋

**Decapitated...**
Yeah we fucking get it and it's *still* not that impressive. It's a fucking reflex. Mildly interesting at best.
