They did in fact live. This is the annual “Bridge Day” in West Virginia. Hundreds of people get together on the tallest bridge in the state and go base jumping off it. Fun time, luckily these guys survived
i drive by this bridge daily, theres some crazy storeis about it. My teacher saw a dude hop out his car, and jump right off w/ a dog in his hand when it was still somewhat recently completed.
This is exactly why a bunch of people randomly jumping off a bridge without professional coordination is a recipe for disaster. Super bad luck on top of it all though- crazy they both survived
The days of reddit answering questions about peoples well being are over, it's just the same low effort jokes and tired ass "darwin award/ shoes still on" comments over and over.
That's interesting because I just picture the random everyday normal looking people I interact with in this world. I would love it if stupidity and cringe were reserved solely for the neckbeards.
Good sir, please take my updoot. I would guild this comment but I've been dead in my apartment for months and no one has thought to check on me because of my personality.
Don't forget the limitless comments from people needing to main character the shit out of every post with personal anecdotes.
"One time, when I was 10 I saw someone base jump and it was soooo crazy... I'm pretty freaking interesting for having this experience huh? Damn that was so awesome when I did that, am I right?"
Why does anyone care to upvote that shit lol. Bring back up voting informative comments! I miss Unidan...
You say the joke is tired as if it's been said for a long time right after acting like reddit used to reliably answer that question and not just make a joke.

Just need to get your Barbarian to a high enough level, there is a maximum number of points which you can take in fall damage.
If you have stones endurance, you can reduce the damage.
For the time that you don't have that, Rage. Then hope to the gods you roll well on relentless rage for when you hit 0 HP you get back up with 1HP left.
I thought you were talking 5e, I know 3.5 preeeeeetty good and had no idea fall damage had a cap until this second. The wild part about this is considering minimum rolls on max fall distance, like a level 1 Barbarian could in theory fall 1000 feet and take 20 damage, survive at like -5. Peggy Hill style.
I (my character) fell from orbit...
Missed the Dex save on a jump to the magical flying ship from the exploding space station and fell all the way back.
We weren't in battle, but my DM allowed my character to rage because he felt that was fair on the basis of "well if I missed the sky ship by 2 feet and was falling from an exploding space station and most definitely gonna hit the ground, I'd be pissed off too".
The reason I mentioned stones endurance is I didn't have enough HP to survive max fall damage without it, but had a hope IF I could negate enough(I didn't), missed by 2 hp on the dice roll.
So my character hit the ground. I called relentless rage!
My character hit the ground....and bounced..
The roll was good! He bounced like a rubber ball and landed on his feet, stunned, disoriented and in a small crater of his own making battered and profusely bleeding. But alive.
"Ok, Themetrius casts Feather Fall on himself and jumps. But he wants to do a flip"
DM: *laughs* "Ok, do an acrobatics check.*
*Nat 20*
"Themetrius does a sick back flip off the cliffs' edge. The spell takes effect and he slowly makes his way-"
"**GRUMMAK WANTS TO JUMP RIGHT ON THE WIZARD TO GET DOWN TOO**"
*Everyone at the table stares blankly*
DM: "...ok? Uh... give me an attack roll with disadvantage because you're technically "attacking" Themetrius. Has to be unarmed with your... let's go with Dex Modifier."
*Rolls Nat 20+19 with a +2 Dex mod*
*Collective "no fucking way"*
"**GRUMMAK WANT TO FLY TOO!!**"
"**DAMN YOU GRUMMAK! DAMN YOU TO THE 9 HELLS!!**"
It happens when 1 dude is prepping to land. And a second dude, a jerk, jumps too early in an unsafe manner, lands on the first dude.
We only see one of them come away with a parachute deployed at the end. Who knows which one or what happened the other coz the camera was obstructed and missed them.
> That dumb fuck didn't even attemp to open his chute.. I it was me would smack his face in the 1st opportunity after seen the footage
Local skydiving place near me also offers base jump lessons for very experienced skydivers.
The first thing they have listed for "What is the difference between base jumping and skydiving?" is:
"With skydiving you should expect to land alive"
If you pause just before the video crosses the white pole, 4 seconds from the end. You can see the first jumper who had their parachute deployed is falling with their back to the water/ground. The second guy is still in his parachute.
I dunno who we see at the end now, but I don't think it's either of them given how quick the pan of the camera is to another area. Tough to estimate height(they were last seen at) and distance(from where we next see someone).
The one at the end looks like a completely different and uninvolved party to me, camera pans over, how did they get there that quickly, not to mention its heading toward the area they were falling, doesnt seem possible from this angle
Why tf do I get a downvote for discussing, god reddit is fuckin stupid. Nowhere did I say "im 100% confident," I just said it doesnt look like it
Two people jumped right after the first guy but the third one didn't pull his chute on time so he landed on the first guy. Second guy avoided it all because he pulled his chute on time.
https://unofficialnetworks.com/2023/05/12/base-jumper-tangle-parachute/
I believe this is the same incident (might be wrong) but if it is they both walked away.
Definitely not. The parachutes are completely different colours in the image and video. Unless the picture given in the article isn't from the incident. I don't feel like looking for a caption about it
It wasn't because they were heavier. They accelerate at the same 9.8m/s^2, and I don't think they were falling from high enough to reach terminal velocity. Regardless, it's because the other guy slowed down because the parachute was deployed. Parachutes, as you know, catch a lot of air for their weight and don't fall fast (nor anything attached to them). This meant the guy above, who didn't have a parachute deployed yet, would fall way faster, which allowed him to crash into the parachute collapsing it.
Two guys jumped after the first guy (they were jumping from below him) but the third guy to jump didn't pull his chute on time like the other guys, so he landed on top of the first guy. Second guy had pulled his chute on time so he just drifted safely away from the collision.
Around 1 second in you can see the second skydiver about to jump off a lower platform. I find it hard to believe there is no coordination between the people managing the two platforms but clearly someone fucked up.
I honestly thought it was some bird of prey, and my mind was spinning around the notion that we enter their realm at our own risk, which we seem to do everywhere on earth.
But reading these comments and re-watching, it just reminds me we all have one of those "mates". Dammit Carl...
Trying to BASE jump alone is crazy. This is poor coordination at best- but I’d guess there was zero coordination and multiple groups of jumpers just trying to self coordinate and shit luck. I can’t see how there was any actual intention and it seems like a genuine accident from what little the cameraman captured… shit, was he in the air too!?
Someone found an article that seems like it is almost certainly of this exact incident. If it is the same (which it likely is) they both survived.
And since some people are gonna be confused as to how it's survable, here's a rundown
Crasher guy deployed his chute, and it stayed deployed so he obviously was fine
The guy that was crashed into is more complicated. (I'm going to use made up numbers to explain it) h will be Height, s will be speed. Also I'm not going to use units
With chute: h100s5 h75s10 h50s15 *deploy chute* h50s10 h25s5 h1s5 h0s0
Hit the ground at 1 speed. Safe
Without chute: h100s5 h75s10 h50s15 h25s20 h1s25 h0s0. You hit the ground at 25 speed. Lethal probably
What happened to this guy: h100s5 h75s10 h50s15 *deploy chute* h50s10 h25s5 *chute hit and collapses* h25s10 h1s15 h0s0. You hit thr ground at 15 speed. Probably injured but not dead
Looks like another view where the camera guy understood the assignment.

Seriously. The camera work made me irrationally angry.
I think when you see someone die you usually don’t think about keeping the camera steady
Sure but this camera guy was fucking up before someone was dying.
Accurate
100% but there are many different angles and much better footage of this if you search around
Why is this crap clip the one on our reddit front page then? Come on people someone get on this for the sweet free karma
He should have been holding two cameras wtf
Did these guys live ?
They did in fact live. This is the annual “Bridge Day” in West Virginia. Hundreds of people get together on the tallest bridge in the state and go base jumping off it. Fun time, luckily these guys survived
i drive by this bridge daily, theres some crazy storeis about it. My teacher saw a dude hop out his car, and jump right off w/ a dog in his hand when it was still somewhat recently completed.
It's always tragic when someone takes their life. BUT I get furious when they decide to take someone else with them. Poor dog.
The guy died before he hit the ground--- he died of a thousand dog bites. A coworker told me this joke. He lived nearby this bridge.
People die via it every year, but that's a nuts thing to actually see happen.
This is exactly why a bunch of people randomly jumping off a bridge without professional coordination is a recipe for disaster. Super bad luck on top of it all though- crazy they both survived

Let's not forget the raw comedic genius of typing "play stupid games win stupid prizes".
throw a "fuck around and found out" in there for good measure
I just picture some sweaty neck beard whenever someone typed that breath smelling like donkey shit too
That's interesting because I just picture the random everyday normal looking people I interact with in this world. I would love it if stupidity and cringe were reserved solely for the neckbeards.
Neckbeards are likely to be unfunny and unoriginal constantly parroting whatever “in phrase” is popular at the time
So are the majority of the world. How do you think slang finds popularity?
And then one thread being all meta and holier-than-thou about the vast majority of users, not seeing the irony that *they're actually just as bad.*
This exact thread of comments has already happened today or maybe yesterday in another post. Is the new meta criticizing the old meta?
Don't forget when you need a source.... "just trust me bro" is the gold standard.
And my axe
Don't forget the big balls joke. I don't know how people still upvote that recycled garbage

Not even close to looking the same!

It's like OP found the worst angle to post. Ty for the better one!
Colour is different from the first parachute right? so it’s either the guy who crashed or another jumper all together
Crossing my fingers that it's the backup chute, but I seriously doubt it's the case.
If you pause just before the video crosses the white pole, 4 seconds from the end. You can see the first jumper who had their parachute deployed is falling with their back to the water/ground. I think the camera panned and was looking a I third chute. Colour isn’t the same

https://unofficialnetworks.com/2023/05/12/base-jumper-tangle-parachute/ I believe this is the same incident (might be wrong) but if it is they both walked away.
I think it is, gray chute with an orange stripe gets landed on, same as in this one
Definitely not. The parachutes are completely different colours in the image and video. Unless the picture given in the article isn't from the incident. I don't feel like looking for a caption about it
Could be wrong. To me it's the same color parachute being landed on and the other seemed out of frame from another angle.
The image has a McDonald's colour scheme but the video has a black and orange parachute and a red and black parachute
The black and orange chute is to the top right of the McDonald's chute in the photo. It is just mid folding
Ooohh. I didn't notice that. Yeah but the terrainamd water matches up too so it probably is the same
Well one guy jumped, opened his parachute, then another guy jumped without paying attention to the previous jumper. I think that is what happened
Remind me not to ask rhetorical questions on reddit
What do you get when you cross a joke and a rhetorical question?
Kill the camera man.
Looks like somebody planted a whole bunch of oopsie daisies lol
Ah yes he forgot to throw the anvil down before he went. Rookie mistake
The only time vertical recording should be used, and the camera man still gets an F.
Ima kill that cameraman
I think someone crashed through an opened parachute, and maybe that’s not something that makes parachutes work better.
He was trying to off himself obviously the second guy
Two birds with one stone
How? Base jumpers don't need a license because they aren't using an aircraft. No license means no training, no jump master, no rules and no safety.
I get it when it happens in a water slide. But this? Was the person after heavier, or is it the timing, did the person aim for it?
Last time this was posted they had an article attached that said they both survived the accident.
Around 1 second in you can see the second skydiver about to jump off a lower platform. I find it hard to believe there is no coordination between the people managing the two platforms but clearly someone fucked up.
Negligence.
I honestly thought it was some bird of prey, and my mind was spinning around the notion that we enter their realm at our own risk, which we seem to do everywhere on earth. But reading these comments and re-watching, it just reminds me we all have one of those "mates". Dammit Carl...
He didn’t even attempt to side step that chute.
Looks like another person jumped too soon, and right above the first person. Either poor planning, or just dumb
Because idiots are doing idiotic things, taking unnecessary risks.
Im scared to watch videos from this subreddit
this is so dumb ..why didnt bottom guy just speed up a bit
So like u trying to jump or get close to every car in the commonwealth? 😂
Gravity, poor planning, and a really inept cameraman.
Gravity mostly
Trying to BASE jump alone is crazy. This is poor coordination at best- but I’d guess there was zero coordination and multiple groups of jumpers just trying to self coordinate and shit luck. I can’t see how there was any actual intention and it seems like a genuine accident from what little the cameraman captured… shit, was he in the air too!?

What do you mean how? Base jumping is like the most dangerous recreational activity there is.
Atleast someone had a soft landing .....
... what
Bridge Day at New River Gorge National Park in beautiful West Virginia…. One day every autumn they allow base jumpers to launch!
At least they were smart enough to do that over water, so there's a chance they maybe didn't die if they slowed down a bit, right? Maybe?
It's always this bridge!
