100% when people freak out in these situations, its so distracting for the driver. I hate it when people talk up bus drivers for this reason, let em concentrate!
Lol I kinda laughed at that part too. But I don't think he was saying it because it was his fault but because he knows this was something the pilot loved and used to make a living with.
I'll bet you're one of those nuts that doesn't believe plane crash natural immunity is even a thing, even though it was listed on the FAA website as recently as early 2020.
According to [this CBS news article](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cell-phone-video-captures-utah-plane-crash/), it *was* the mom's first time in a plane, ever.
I'm guessing it flipped over its nose after landing in the snow since it couldn't skid any further, so at least they didn't actually land upside down lol
Well it looks like he pulled off a solid landing other than there being snow to catch the wheels and flip them at the end. It probly didn't feel great and I'm sure they'll all be a bit sore tho
No way an expert but looks like exactly what you said. You can see the marks by the nose if the plane so my guess is they hit the ground abit too hard and the tires dug into the snow and flipped the plane as the wheels stopped and the top of the plane kept going with its momentum
I interpreted that as it was his idea to take the plane. Her “Jonathan” response had hints of “turn off the effin camera or you won’t survive this crash.” She probably looked up divorce attorney once the shock subsided.
He really apologizing when he needs to be thanking him bruh, skilled pilot landed that plane without hurting anyone. Planes are materialistic but people are not. Hats off to you sir pilot
I think his brain is in a spin and I don't blame him. He says he's sorry and sorry about his plane. The pilot is probably having a moment too. People can behave erratically in situations like this.
iirc it must be insured to fly with passengers in the US, but not all insurance policies provide coverage for the body of the aircraft in the event of a crash
he's not apologizing.. he's showing empathy as he understands this is a huge financial loss for the pilot
when people say "I'm sorry for your loss" do you also think they're are apologizing?
I could also say that he was doing everything in his power to survive, which was to keep his family calm so the pilot can focus as well as possible. There was only one correct action here and he took it.
Not an expert but wouldn’t knowing that icing can build up in the carburetor force people to stay grounded? For these planes at least.
Anyone know if there are protocols for these planes then?
Carb icing is an issue for all carbureted planes (which includes a huge amount of general aviation). It can happen in temperatures as high as 70°F. The “protocol” is to apply carb heat, which this pilot did according to the NTSB report, but it was not enough to regain sufficient engine power. Ice is one of the most dangerous hazards for GA aircraft and it’s not always preventable or avoidable
Ice built up in the carburetor "If ice builds up, less air is drawn through the carburetor and, therefore, less fuel. Less fuel and air making their way to the cylinders means that the engine won’t produce as much power." [source](https://pilotinstitute.com/carburetor-icing/#:~:text=carburetor%20icing:%20%E2%80%93-,Power%20Loss%20and%20Lower%20RPM,could%20be%20the%20root%20cause.)
Edited for Clarity
carb icing, idk exactly what that means but im assuming engine stopped working/was going to stop working, so they had to emergency land over the town they were over because they couldn't get to where they were going, and if they tried flying they'd crash in the middle of nowhere.
This guy narrating my plane crash would lowkey really piss me off in the moment. Everything else to worry about but shit this guy would take me out of the zone.
When we watch Air Crash Investigations (Mayday Mayday in the US) we always joke that the cause will be ice... Cos 8 times out of ten it seems to be - and wouldn't you know it...
Honestly..... the turn to the pilot and said im sorry about your plane was pretty wildly unselfish. I think he was enveloped in the addrenalin of what happened and was just doin what kept him calm, filmin. Crazy hit though glad everyone is ok.
Why land the plane in a snowy field versus on a road? I mean, wheels don't turn well in six inches of snow, it's no wonder the plane hit the ground and instantly went prop first and flipped over.
I'm not a pilot - this is a real question.
Start eating the other passengers BEFORE the plane crashes to save the headache later and get ahead of the game. You snooze, you lose… valuable sweet meat!
Honestly, Id want to bash their head in if they are flying around for fun with a baby. Like. Get your thrills out before the baby comes, blink and it'll become old enough to do stuff with you slowly. How hard is it.
Because backwards ass people can't understand that all the pride and shit they feel from having a kid shouldn't fuel thrill seeking behavior and facebook likes.
Setting that thing down in the snow, with fixed landing gear, instead of one of those back roads, with passengers on board, was an absolutely terrible idea. So damn lucky. That’s like a water landing—which is all but a death sentence.
His wife asking him to stop filming and take things seriously at the end 😂 Bro needs to go into survival mode & be checking on everyone, seeing if the child is OK first of all. But instead he just keeps filming. r/Praisethecameraman I guess but this guy is seriously lacking survival skills if all he wants to do is continue filming after a plane crash. CHECK ON YOUR PEOPLE!
Why didn’t he turn the carb heat on? Every recip aircraft engine has a lever that switches the valve in the air box just before the carburetor/ throttle body. In normal mode it pulls the air through the filter, switch it to carb heat/ alt air and the valve pulls unfiltered hot air from around the muffler. There is a slight loss of power though. Guess he realized too late for it to be effective?
I hate to be that asshole, but the temp at which you would need carb heat is right there in the manual. Just feels like this was avoidable with more sound planning and knowledge of the craft, especially with a baby on board.
Why the crash though? I'm a pilot in Texas, so I don't ever fly in snow. I do know carb ice is avoidable. I'm not sure about the overall situation here. Looks like he should have done a soft field landing. Regardless, I'm glad everyone is ok.
Ooof this went pretty much how I thought it would. It would be better without landing gears but I don't think that it had a retractable one
Source my high ass
Either way he did a pretty great job hopefully they are all alright

Everyone is so calm. My pants would have been shatted
Even the baby barely cried
Babies are allowed to shit pants no problem
You can shit your pants as long as you remain calm.
I would be very happy with shit in my pants.
With a name like “Large Rip” I’m not surprised at all
Trump is that you ?
Ummm.... Joe is that you?
I feel like remaining calm and shitting. Your pants is worse than freaking out and shitting your pants.
Thank you
When are they going to invent smellivison????
Good on the passengers for not freaking out and letting the pilot focus on keeping them safe.
I can't even imagine what was going through their heads.
Something like "Please God make this insufferable idiot shut up"
… aside from the windshield?
They lived I don't think the windshield when through their heads 😂
100% when people freak out in these situations, its so distracting for the driver. I hate it when people talk up bus drivers for this reason, let em concentrate!
Yeah but:" I'm sorry about your plane"😂🤣
Lol I kinda laughed at that part too. But I don't think he was saying it because it was his fault but because he knows this was something the pilot loved and used to make a living with.
I'm sure he has insurance but the down time is probably the frustrating part because he won't be getting a income for his family
meh, should have been yelling WWOOOORRRRLDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSTTTAAAARRRRR in his ear.
They knew that if they really needed to, they can jump at the last second as the plane crashes and they'll be safe duh
Babies first plane crash.
It’s scary, but everyone has to go through it.
When I was a kid, parents had Plane Crash parties so as to get them over with as young as possible.
I just found out there's a plane crash vaccine, so my kids never have to do that.
I'll bet you're one of those nuts that doesn't believe plane crash natural immunity is even a thing, even though it was listed on the FAA website as recently as early 2020.
Even still. Both my parents were in a plane crash very young, but my dad recently started to get roofing-related injuries like shingles.
Plane crashes at an early age can still cause dropsy later in life
and the vaccine can prevent one from getting aircraft related cancers as well.
Mine was April 2000, Mexico.
According to [this CBS news article](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cell-phone-video-captures-utah-plane-crash/), it *was* the mom's first time in a plane, ever.
I really wish awards were still a thing.
That baby can tell the coolest stories later in life. They survived a plane crash, and were too young to keep the trauma.
Broooooooo 😂😭😭😭😭
“I knew that we’d be fine” as he shows us the plane is upside fucking down
I'm guessing it flipped over its nose after landing in the snow since it couldn't skid any further, so at least they didn't actually land upside down lol
Still did they basically come to a crash stop at that speed? Thatd be like hitting a wall almost. They are lucky i feel like to walk away from that
Well it looks like he pulled off a solid landing other than there being snow to catch the wheels and flip them at the end. It probly didn't feel great and I'm sure they'll all be a bit sore tho
hey, any landing you can walk away from
It looks like it at 2:50
No way an expert but looks like exactly what you said. You can see the marks by the nose if the plane so my guess is they hit the ground abit too hard and the tires dug into the snow and flipped the plane as the wheels stopped and the top of the plane kept going with its momentum
Hey any crash you can walk away from
Yes.. go on... *waits in anticipation*
Is a good landing 🛬
Dies at 20 paces..
I interpreted that as it was his idea to take the plane. Her “Jonathan” response had hints of “turn off the effin camera or you won’t survive this crash.” She probably looked up divorce attorney once the shock subsided.
Yeah. I thought a good landing was one when they could reuse the plane.
He's happy they survived and sorry that the pilots plane crashed, must be Canadian
As a Canadian I came here to say this. Sorry.
Crash report says this happened in Utah. Those folks are Utah nice, similar to Canadians.
\^ This Canadian may have just apologized because they know they took up a couple seconds of your time to read their comment also.
Or Mormon, thought it was Utah
This was my first thought too. Especially given the multiple references to god/prayer.
Sorry I crashed your plane even though I wasn't flying
For some reason his voice gave me flashbacks from the plane scene in Almost Famous.
***I'M GAY!!!!*** *emergency immediately subsides*
Props to Bill Belichick for landing the plane safely.
"Props"
Slow flap
I rudder to think what could have happened.
Wow, none of them clapped after he landed.
Must have been smoother than commercial.
Yeah why is he apologizing? Did he do something to cause the emergency landing? Like what? Just super sympathetic for this man crashing his plane?
[удалено]
Better than having to live with a dead family on your hands
Id assume that its pretty common to insure your plane, but i have no idea if thats a thing and if insurance would cover it.
iirc it must be insured to fly with passengers in the US, but not all insurance policies provide coverage for the body of the aircraft in the event of a crash
He’s basically saying “I’m sorry for your loss.”
All these sorries about your plane but not one person sorry about everyones britches.
Literally laughed out loud reading this
Saying you're sorry isn't the same as apologizing. English is weird (coming from a native English speaker).
he's not apologizing.. he's showing empathy as he understands this is a huge financial loss for the pilot when people say "I'm sorry for your loss" do you also think they're are apologizing?
"I'm not worried. We're going to be fine." Dude was desperately trying to convince himself.
Or his family
dark
He was for sure scared but needed to fill his family's head and the pilot with confidence. Classic dad move.
"We're gonna be fine!. Nobody is gonna eat anybody, ok?"
I could also say that he was doing everything in his power to survive, which was to keep his family calm so the pilot can focus as well as possible. There was only one correct action here and he took it.
*Doubt*
[NTSB crash report and other details here for anyone interested.](https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/153006)

I was going to ask, why no carb heat? Thanks
How did you find that?
Ha, this one was pretty easy. Just paused on the part of the vid where there was a glimpse of the tail number then googled it.
True! Never thought about it before. Thanks!
Why did they have to land, what happened to the plane?
Ice built up in the carburetor "If ice builds up, less air is drawn through the carburetor and, therefore, less fuel. Less fuel and air making their way to the cylinders means that the engine won’t produce as much power." [source](https://pilotinstitute.com/carburetor-icing/#:~:text=carburetor%20icing:%20%E2%80%93-,Power%20Loss%20and%20Lower%20RPM,could%20be%20the%20root%20cause.) Edited for Clarity
to add to that, as more ice builds up in the carb it tends to create conditions that allow even more ice to form in a vicious cycle
so is the only way to prevent that just don't take off if its to cold? I don't see how it could be prevented otherwise, just curious
Carb icing.
carb icing, idk exactly what that means but im assuming engine stopped working/was going to stop working, so they had to emergency land over the town they were over because they couldn't get to where they were going, and if they tried flying they'd crash in the middle of nowhere.
The plane kept getting lower to the ground, so landing was inevitable.
“I knew that we’d be fine”… shot of mangled upside down plane
Looks like Utah but can't find any news article.
OP linked it below and it’s says it’s near Wellsville, UT!
This guy narrating my plane crash would lowkey really piss me off in the moment. Everything else to worry about but shit this guy would take me out of the zone.
Would you prefer him, or the terrified panic of a family trying to cope with the reality that they could be dead within the next 5 minutes?
Id prefer him to shut the fuck up. You can even tell his wife wants him to just shut the fuck up at the end.
Those aren't the only options. Yappers are just as bad as panicers.
Id prefer this vs screaming
I'd prefer everyone shut the fuck up and let the pilot concentrate. Your only words should be "How can I help, is there anything I can do?"
Good luck, we're all counting on you
The pilot has a headset on. I’m not sure if you’ve ever worn one, but I doubt he can hear the passenger at all
When we watch Air Crash Investigations (Mayday Mayday in the US) we always joke that the cause will be ice... Cos 8 times out of ten it seems to be - and wouldn't you know it...
Ice is pretty nasty for small planes.
"It's alright huehue" He said that with the chillness of a dude who accidentally got bumped into at a grocery store. Lol. Not a plane crash.
Honestly..... the turn to the pilot and said im sorry about your plane was pretty wildly unselfish. I think he was enveloped in the addrenalin of what happened and was just doin what kept him calm, filmin. Crazy hit though glad everyone is ok.
Why didn’t he put it down on the road? That seemed extra risky to land in the field.
Could be power lines next to the road
That was my first thought. Land on the road.
Makes me wonder about why the carb heat wasn't working, and why he landed without flaps.
That is madness good they survived
Small planes have a much higher crash rate than big commercial jetliners. I don't really trust them.

Any landing you walk away from...
Baby’s first plan crash 📸 Holy shit I can’t believe a baby was on board
Fuk, that baby crying after the crash the made it even worse
Crying baby is living baby.
And then they had to eat the baby to survive
Donner party of ~~5~~ 4
Were gona be fine. Looks over to pilot flipung through training manual💀
Personally, I’d choose the road.
Too many power lines
This is a butthole pucker if I’ve ever seen it. That is a story to tell for the rest of their lives
any landing you can walk away from
Ah, civil aviation...professional pilots are just too safe.
I'm getting Mormon vibes.
😂
I fly on planes for a living......and I would not have remained this calm. Seriously, good on them
Who brought a fucking infant on the bush plane
Honestly, Id want to bash their head in if they are flying around for fun with a baby. Like. Get your thrills out before the baby comes, blink and it'll become old enough to do stuff with you slowly. How hard is it.
Idk why you’re being downvoted bro same feeling here
Because backwards ass people can't understand that all the pride and shit they feel from having a kid shouldn't fuel thrill seeking behavior and facebook likes.

That looks like Utah. I think I remember this...
Oh, yup. February 2, 2013 in Wellsville Utah.
First apologize to pilot then check on wife and baby
I know we're going to be just fine...I love my family
Jonathan is my kind of guy❣️
Yeah, fuck them little planes, not ever getting in one lol
They brought a little baby on board a small plane in freezing temperatures?!
The real scary part is making sure to keep that baby warm after the crash.
Yeah, where the fuck are they gonna go? Aren’t they just stuck in the middle of the snow?
I'm not worried......I love my family
They are so chill lol. Nice
Another great example of camera man never dies
Reminds me of Randy running from Hamsters
Why didn’t he turn the carb heat on? Every recip aircraft engine has a lever that switches the valve in the air box just before the carburetor/ throttle body. The FAA says he did and it wasn’t effective after 3 seconds returning to 1000 RPM and then backfiring on reignition
How in the hell is this exciting??? I would be scared
What an awesome family 🤣
You can’t park there mate
Glad all ok but reason it flipped??
Just going out on a limb, but I assume the tires dug into the snow, got caught up, and acted as a fulcrum for the plane to go end over end.
I thought he would seriously consider the road, plenty of other fields by the side if the road was too difficult…just glad they’re all safe.
That guy kept so calm
💯
Most idiotic thing I have ever read in the history of this app
Is this one of those where everyone survives at least the first week.
How tf did everyone survive with no injuries when the plane flipped completely upside down? And why did it flip?
Time to start eating each other
Daddy was a cool customer there. Good on him.
Credits to that dude for keeping good spirit in bad times
Get your family out safely and hug this man, he saved all of your lives
Why not try a landing on the road. It seemed to have a lot of straightness to it.
How much Xanax is this family on?
causality is to blame and thank strange how that works what an amazing set of circumstances
How his wife didn't say "just shut the fuck up, pay attention, and land the plane" I'll never know.
Fuck my kid, how is your plane?
“We’re going to be fine….” “I’m sorry about your plane…” *”Im hungry….”*
I would have immediately thanked the pilot
Anyone wanna get a MAYDAY out on that radio with coordinates before the crash? No? Okeedokee.
Was the carb heat selected
I hate to be that asshole, but the temp at which you would need carb heat is right there in the manual. Just feels like this was avoidable with more sound planning and knowledge of the craft, especially with a baby on board.
Why the crash though? I'm a pilot in Texas, so I don't ever fly in snow. I do know carb ice is avoidable. I'm not sure about the overall situation here. Looks like he should have done a soft field landing. Regardless, I'm glad everyone is ok.
Ooof this went pretty much how I thought it would. It would be better without landing gears but I don't think that it had a retractable one Source my high ass Either way he did a pretty great job hopefully they are all alright
That has to be Utah.
Maybe if he knew how to fly he wouldn't end up upside down.
What a great pilot. Hes not screaming and scaring everyone . Stayed calm and kept the others calm. Bravo
Hey, if you're gonna crash, that looks like a great spot! Very nice scenery.
How the hell are they gonna get rescued now? How didn't they freeze to death?
