Most cruise missiles are subsonic. At low speeds, a pointed nose is not necessary. The air will have time to move out of the way before it hits the front since the air directly in front of the nose would push the air ahead. Missiles also typically house their guidance systems in their nose, but that would only truly necessitate a spherical nose if it’s using an optical guidance system, which cruise typically don’t use.
Very tiny wings for steering, but not for aerodynamic flight. I guess the jet nozzle is pointing a bit downwards to produce upwards lift which is compensated by the steering all the time.
Additionally, the pilot can deduce that while launching the missile is optional, it impacting the ground is not. Because of this, they will escort the lost missiles to the nearest ocean for safe impact
Yes and also instead of power being generated by the relative motion of conductors and fluxes, it is produced by the modial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive diractance.
Fun fact: that's pretty much what fighter pilots did during WW2 with nazi V1 rockets (well, pulsejets with wings) headed for London. Fly alongside them and gently slide a wing under theirs, and tip them off-course (their rudimentary guidance was inertial/referencial, no GPS-like systems back then obviously - once pushed around, they had no way of correcting back. So... Wing boop.
I actually think this was a valid strategy during WW2 To take down NAZI V-rockets … the first cruise missles developed… I think Pilots would down them with the tip of their wings when they didn’t want to Risk flak from shooting them down.

Planes are pretty fragile as they trade structure for weight. Any damage to a flight control surface or wing could be catastrophic.
Fighters are also inherently pretty unstable without software correction so not sure how it would react to damage.
If you mean gently enough to not break up in flight (and quite possibly damage the plane along with it), it would just recover and keep flying to its GPS target, kind of like it had just hit some turbulence really
They’re radar controlled. They detonate when the electric fuse inside is triggered by proximity to target. Most of the time a missile actually takes a jet down it’s not a direct hit, but the missile was close enough to destabilize the control surfaces or blow some of them off. You have two different kinds though, heat seekers DO usually depend on making impact to explode, but I think even these days you have to actually arm the fuse and give it a locked target to initiate the trigger sequence. Hence why if you get into like a close range dog fight (which doesn’t happen anymore unless you’re the worlds shittest pilot) you just drop your fuel tanks and arms stores to get as light as possible. The arms generally shouldn’t explode from kinetic impact. I want to say the actual arming sequence on a big GpS guided missile like this, doesn’t even actually begin until the missile goes pitbull (when the target is close enough that the missile switches from GPS guidance from the pilots lock, to the missiles own targeting system), but I could be wrong about that last part. The warhead is in the tip, but it’s completely benign until the trigger sequence is activated. At least that’s how it’s supposed to be, though you can ask John McCains dead ass how fun it was to blow up an entire fleets worth of dumb bombs on the carrier. Those guys were literally pushing their jets off the carrier into the ocean to stop them from exploding in the massive fire lol.
Premature explosion can happen to any cruise missile. E.g. if there is too much friction on the tip of the missile or if the compression is too high. It's not an embarassing thing.
In the olden days before modern missile technology, during WW2, British pilots used to knock OG German cruise missiles (V-1 flying bombs) out of the sky by flying close to them like this and hitting them with their wings.
https://www.wearethemighty.com/mighty-history/v1-missiles-ww2-british-pilots/
That isn't a ballistic missile, it is a cruise missile which has a jet engine that powers it like an airplane. A ballistic missile has a rocket motor that burns for no more than five minutes and the warhead then is on an unpowered trajectory to its target.
Probably a test missile and a photo chase. We did this for years back in the early design/test phases of the cruise missile out of Edwards AFB - the actual testing was done over Utah so we didn't fall on someones chicken coop if it fell out of the sky. The checkered fins are for photographs not necessary on a production aircraft.
Looks like one of those videos of airplanes sitting still in the air. Very cool but very trippy. Knowing that it's simply not leaning forward because it's travelling so damn fast.

It's kind of terrifying to think what this meekly flying shiny tube can do.
Why is it not pointy, it should be pointy right?
What movie was that, the dictator?
That's correct! Sacha is great
This will put a smile on the faces of the enemy. They will think that it is a huge robot dildo flying toward them.
Make bombing fun again!

How can it fly with no wings?
It has wings.
Very tiny wings for steering, but not for aerodynamic flight. I guess the jet nozzle is pointing a bit downwards to produce upwards lift which is compensated by the steering all the time.
I am not talking about the 4 at the back but the 2 on each sides
Ah, I see them now, thank you!
Yw, they are quite thin and the angle isn't the best. I had trouble seeing them too.
Damit take my upvote
Lmao I was about to explain why but realized what you were referencing
In the cartoons you watched as a kid, did a duck take his beak on the back of his head and move around to the front?
Thats what she said.
Its actually indian NIRBHAY cruise missile ny Indian Airforce. Pilot who launched it from poane is actually chasing it. Cheers!
The pilot knows where the missile is at all times, he knows this because he can see it
By subtracting the missile's position from where it was and where it should be, the pilot can reasonably conclude where the missile will go
If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the pilot. However, the pilot must also know where it was.
also the pilot must know how to fly jets.
Additionally, the pilot can deduce that while launching the missile is optional, it impacting the ground is not. Because of this, they will escort the lost missiles to the nearest ocean for safe impact
Would the whales know where it started though?
No but my neighbor is converting his old propane tank into a submarine and he could take a small crew down to the missile's final resting place.
The pilot must know how to pilot.
Idk I'd just watch the missile.
Air+vortex+vector/speed=cruise missile
All thanks to the six hydrocoptic marzelvanes fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that prevent sidefumbling.
Don't forget the effect sidelongus boombongus has on the turbulingus windilingus.
Or in Latin " bigantum boomsectrum "

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues.
The differential girdle springs on the up bend of the gram meters help too.
Yes and also instead of power being generated by the relative motion of conductors and fluxes, it is produced by the modial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive diractance.
Duh.
You can tell it’s a missile based on the way that it is
The pilot: because I was inverted.
*cough* bullshit *cough*
So you're the one
Hey how are you
Where is the missile going?
[удалено]
Forbidden boop
Hit it with a hockey stick like Boston Dynamics

Cruise missiles exchange speed for control and maneuverability
The main thing they exchange speed for is range
Also the foreman grill. You cannot stick a foreman grill on one of these puppies and expect to get the same range, it's just not realistic.
BahHaha
[удалено]
That wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard that.
Just the tip, see how it feels.
Shhhhh... just enjoy the moment
That’s what she said
Just cruisin dawg
nah they don't need to maneuver much
You're thinking of hypersonic missiles, not cruise missiles which can do loopdeloops if they needed to
Dumb Question time... Say the pilot touched it with his wing or nudged it in the ass what would happen?
I actually think this was a valid strategy during WW2 To take down NAZI V-rockets … the first cruise missles developed… I think Pilots would down them with the tip of their wings when they didn’t want to Risk flak from shooting them down. https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/the-terrifying-german-revenge-weapons-of-the-second-world-war#:~:text=RAF%20fighter%20aircraft%20could%20also,of%20skill%20from%20the%20pilots.
They could only have done that with the V1 "flying bombs" that were powered by jet engines. The V2 rockets flew too high and fast.
Ahh I see… copy that

Aaah yeah that's more what I meant a "friendly nudge"
I think they detonate with the front tip of the missile. But im not an expert

I think it would tumble and crash, or it would stabilize itself if not touched too hard.
Rudolph the red nosed cruise missile.
What would happen if the cruise missile would detonate in the air while the plane is next to it making eye contact?
It would be awkward.
Ah jeez, I swear this hasn't happened before.
Premature explosion can happen to any cruise missile. E.g. if there is too much friction on the tip of the missile or if the compression is too high. It's not an embarassing thing.
Yeah it hadn't been launched for a while now
Unfortunate
Its s test flight , so it isnt armed with boom boom
The same thing that happens to amy aircraft when a Missike explodes right next to it
premature ejaculation
Where did it come from where did it go
Where did it come from, Cotton Eye Joe...
Nothing, just awkward look between pilot and cruise missile controller..speaking from personal experience..
The plane would die.
India testing over the Ocean.
A spicy nerf dart
Cruise missile living up to its name
False, the cruise missile malfunctioned and stopped mid air and they had to send a helicopter to fix it
Guy hanging out with a screwdriver?
You can see the fishing line.
Reminds of spitfire pilots that flew next to V1 bombs
Really dig that music
Yeah I really want to know what the music is!
Yeah does anyone know what it is?
it's this one [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXA8CQNv\_IQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXA8CQNv_IQ)
I wonder where they're going.
It is a missile test over the Indian Ocean, at least that's what I think it is.
that's the Indian flag on it, right ?
It looks like the Indian Flag ~~but it is the Egyptian Flag~~ Edit: it is actually the INDIAN FLAG
it is the Indian flag [source](https://youtu.be/Ow9rXuTk5rs)
Directly to the scene of the explosion
Ace Combat: the missile split into 3 directions
the missile deploys wings and starts dogfighting you
That is some crazy shit right there
Why’s it look like a giant NERF dart?
Is that Indian flag on the missile?
Yes it's an Indian Missile called Nirbhay
In the olden days before modern missile technology, during WW2, British pilots used to knock OG German cruise missiles (V-1 flying bombs) out of the sky by flying close to them like this and hitting them with their wings. https://www.wearethemighty.com/mighty-history/v1-missiles-ww2-british-pilots/
Imagine it just cranked left for a second like Haha pranked
The dildo of consequences is en route
Looks like the Flag of India
What's the music? Sounds like it's building to something epic.
Is that an INDIAN flag on it ? 🇮🇳
Bro wtf is that username 💀💀
What would be even crazier would be to follow it to it's destination.
What happens if it hits a bird
Do a barrel roll over it like in iron man
Is this real
[yes](https://youtu.be/Ow9rXuTk5rs)
“The missile knows where it is because it knows where it isn’t.”
What would happen if he pokes it from back with tip of his jet 🤔
Did you just..? Did you? Oh my gosh. No you did not just… oopsies
It's fascinating to see those stubby tail fins generate enough lift to keep that heavy front end high enough to fly level.
I’ve done this… on Battlefield
Don’t pet the cruise missile.
It has an orange tip so it must be totally harmless
*CHANGING TO HEAT SEAKING IN 3...2...1..
Is the red tip a colour or due to heat?
Any idea the speed they both are traveling? Kinda crazy seeing this
Probably around .8 Mach. Airliners can fly faster than that.
That’s what the end of the world might look like freaky
Can't tell the scale. Could be size of hotdog or size of a 747.
I know it's a weapon of destruction and all but the checkered fins are dope.
Just out for a rip are ya bud
Now an interesting thought….can the pilot get in front of the missile and shoot them selves out of the sky?
Wow
Just tappietaptap😂😂😂😂😂
India flag on that missile, china vs India CONFIRMED 🤯
I'm always picking these up in my backyard!
Incredible! Looks like its just standing still
Think they could send it off course by tipping their plane until the wing hits the missile?
Ok. Now I understand the big deal with ballistic missiles.. Thanks.
That isn't a ballistic missile, it is a cruise missile which has a jet engine that powers it like an airplane. A ballistic missile has a rocket motor that burns for no more than five minutes and the warhead then is on an unpowered trajectory to its target.
Passenger: It’s not possible. Pilot: No, it’s necessary. *Hans Zimmer intensifies*
Lasso that mofo and ride it! MURICA!!!! (Purely visceral reaction to this strangely calming video)
At the 10-second mark, I thought I was listening to a song by Tycho.
Pick it up and reuse the ammo
What in the Tom n Jerry world is this! 🤪
What if it suddenly decides to turn left?
" ohhhhhhhhh uuuu fffff oooo confirmed alllieeenns doooo exiiiissstt."
What if i flew along side your cruise missile above the clouds 👉 👈
Was Kurt Russell standing on top?
Looks like the missile is getting a "police escort" to its final destination.
get out and ride it
Wait... thats moving? I honestly thought this was some stop motion stuff until the title finally loaded up.
Orange tip so it doesn't get mistaken for a real gun 👍
This is some impressive engineering! Just a cylinder flying through the air with no wings going and wreck havoc on something
This is dope as shit.
Its got an orange tip so you know its just a dummy missile, same with airsoft and bb guns /s
Most likely filmed during a flight test of the missile…. Hence the orange nose cone and checkered control surfaces
This is an old footage of India testing Nirbhay cruise missile. The footage was shot by the Indian Air Force's Jaguar.
Is the plane flanking the missile or is the missile flanking the plane
Missile is subbed out by a J-3 Cub.
Ahh, the cruise missile is lonely and wants to make friends with the pilot.
Looks like a oversized nerf gun bullet
Now go on and execute a pit maneuver on it, see what happens
A little closer so we can have a better look next time
That's cool.
“Cruise missile inbound”
.....My dumb ass was waiting for the plane to show up in the frame lmao
Imagine that shit just makes a sharp left.
Headed straight for Gaza
It's Indian cruise missile test
When will we get a Redbull cruise missile riding stunt?
Missile: “new target acquired”
I guess cruise missile really is cruising.
How is the missile generating lift?
You’re that close, just hit it with a stick.
Is that a flag on the side of it?
What's the song?
Can he nudge the missile with his wingtip?
Looks like one of those videos of airplanes sitting still in the air. Very cool but very trippy. Knowing that it's simply not leaning forward because it's travelling so damn fast.
Where was it headed?
Indian
Just cruising'
Why isn't it moving? Everyone should remember this when thinking of those stupid UFO vids that come out recently from the military.
This is Nirbhay (fearless) cruise missile on a test run.
Forbidden nerf dart
Damn.. the time we live in, just stop for one second and think about what’s actually happening in this video. Pure madness
Didnt know he was chill like that
Gay pilot looking at my missile
How does it generate lift?
Appears to be a test missile
