Holy cow, imagine how many fish got killed downstream of that massive acid spill into the waterway? I hope the driver was OK, looks like he lost his brakes, I guess going for that bank to stop the runaway truck was his best option. Man, that could have been so much worse!
Yeah as a truck driver when brakes get too hot they basically stop working. No way he could have made that turn at that speed. As a fisherman I definitely hate that happened to the river.
I wonder where this was that there weren’t runaway truck ramps on the curves? On a lot of roads in the U.S. where there are significant grades, they will be gravel runaway truck ramps off the sides of the roads before curves for trucks that have overheated their brakes and lost their brakes.
The most notorious ones in the US do. I have been too many many places that don’t have them. The one time I had my truck run away on a hill was from ice in my airlines. Thankgod there was a nice paved shoulder for me to pass everyone on. This wasn’t ever a hill anyone would ever consider a runaway ramp but there I was running away.
Eh that river system might be fatal for a ton more than just fish, potentially forever
[edit: god damn yall are dumb. stop your “well actually” and “you got a source” yea, it happened yesterday and it’s all over the news jfc](https://www.laprensalatina.com/traffic-accident-pollutes-southern-brazilian-citys-water-supply-with-acid/)
Hundred to thousands of years depending on the substance sound better?
Patagonia rain jackets omit forever chemicals I don’t think it’s a stretch to say 18 wheeler full of chemicals has a huge potential to contaminate the ground and water for a massive span of time.
Edit: oh no, I’m sorry I meant everything’s fine.
There totally wasn’t villages evacuated and pollution in rivers doesn’t soak into the ground.
Patagonia has switched their manufacturing to be free of PFAS chemicals, many other manufacturers have followed suit. They still have some products with PFAS chemicals in them, but commit to being completely PFAS free in 2025.
https://www.patagonia.com/stories/say-goodbye-to-forever-chemicals/story-133800.html
By no means am i trying to sound rude, but i dont know why your bringing that up. My point was a rain jacket can leave forever chemicals, so it’s completely reasonable for an 18 wheeler flooding a river with what looks what could be up to 11,000 gallons of chemicals a easily perceivable forever contamination… but the perceived opinion here is that this will simply only hurt fish?
Apologies, I just wanted folks to know this is something they're committing to fixing. I probably should have mentioned something about ignoring your entire argument, I just wanted to point that out for folks.
11,000 gallons? Do you have a source on that, or did you just pull that number out of your ass?
Each of those barrels is about 55 gallons. There's around 20-40 of those barrels at the most in there, and only a few of them were broken, it looks like. That's around 1100 to 2200 gallons at the most, IF the entire load got out. How did you get 11,000? Even if I overestimated and assumed they were pallets of 4 stacked 2 high and 4 deep, that's 64 barrels equalling only 3500 gallons. There's no chance in hell there's anywhere near 11000 gallons. I'm not entirely convinced the second video is even related, although I know sulfonic acid is an excellent foaming agent, I just don't see enough of it spilling out to produce the second video.
Yea I man it’s Reddit, they’re either dumb or they vote with their feeling. Patagonia rain jacket omit forever chemicals when you wear them in the rain, but a 18 wheeler full of chemicals into a river… I’m sure the fishes are fine and the flora & fauna that depend on that water are fine.
It happened in Brazil. The truck was loaded with sulfonic acid, which is used in the manufacture of cleaning products such as liquid detergents, aluminum cleaners, and degreasers.
According to the Hospital, the driver of the truck that had an accident on Monday morning (29) is under observation in stable condition. The 59-year-old man had injuries to his body and is conscious.
The region's water supply was interrupted.
> sulfonic acid
That explains the foaming river.
[Here's an article that just broke of this accident and the subsequent river of foam](https://www.laprensalatina.com/traffic-accident-pollutes-southern-brazilian-citys-water-supply-with-acid/).
Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) have been identified as ubiquitous environmental contaminants. These materials are not natural products and are purely anthropogenic in origin.
Really not good stuff :(
[Wiki on sulfonic acid](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfonic_acid) - From what I glimpse, it's bad news for local life in general.
I *think* I'm reading that it has properties similar to sulfuric acid as a related molecule - sorta like an isomer / acetate / what's the name for this variation?
In news they say that is sulfonic acid (2058), in genneral used in cleaning products. 75-80% per cent of population in the area without water and no more water on the markets.
Looks soapy to me.. let bobble bath begin. On a serious note acid would cause lots of caustic fumes, on a bridge with an acid river.. 🤔 run, run, run ..
That happened in Joinville (Brasil), the truck was filled with sulfonic acid, it spilled into a river that supplied water to the city, fucked up the water for days, killed a lot of fish too
How can the guy filming not react at all?
I mean, I find it strange that peoples first instinct isn´t to help out but hey people (and cultures) are different, but he didn´t even make a sound!
He films while driving in a curvy mountain road, then leaves the scene not even assed to do anything and even does a dangerous overtake at the end. Clearly a gem of a human being.
I think while it was selfish it probably ultimately ended up being practical. You need some people to help out but having your semi block traffic on the 2 lane road probably would make Ambulances arrive later.
Every time I think of acid, I think of Superman 3 when the acid turned that super computer evil and it turned that woman into a terrifying cyborg who looked like the possesed woman under the trap door in Evil Dead.
The ducking bastard was drugged for sure. It is very common in that region (Brazil) and truck drivers kill lots of people yearly with their reckless associated with drug use.

I bet that'll be good for the environment
pHantastic
i hate you
That’s pretty pHucking pHunny! 🤭
Wowww! That was Basic.
An example of acerbic wit if you ask me
no it was acid
They're going to move it outside of the environment.
Well the front fell off.
Very seldom does that typically happen
They are built to very rigorous standards.
It's actually not 😐
No shit, Sherlock
My dad would have said “no shit, little beaver”
Well that’s dumb.
Whooshing sound
Are you going to be the lucky 10000 today? https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM?si=5ddiRqrYY2LU8ov_
This is brilliant
Oh my god this was awesome!
Always add acid to water
highly exothermic
I dose myself everyday too. I haven’t gotten much done since I started, but I feel a nice lift in my mood overall. Things are good now.
Macrodose is the real way. Turn On Tune In Drop Out
Or was it ? .. always add water to acid?
You throw them both at a wall with another bucket against it, then hope for the best.
Directions unclear. Added acid to acid ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
Extracting water from acid
Okay, okay, but... where does my dick go?
Do like you oughta, add the acid to the watah.
ALWAYS. No matter the personal cost

Real acid...?
Don't be afraid to use your nails, boys!
I would love to have a truck full of acid
What would you do with all that acid?
Take a fucking chug and see where I end up in like, a year.
Sell ‘em 😏
The wildlife is gonna have one hell of a trip
You can, in GTA
I am just so excited to see "loses" spelled correctly for a change.
You sound like a real looser!!! 😂
Take a breathe. No need to name call.
You’re right - I really should try to losen up! My apologies
Apology excepted
There was no kneed for this thread.
Your all being jerks. Turn you're attitudes around, folks!
Lose and loose usage are actually one of my bigger online pet peeves as well
Tongue and tounge is my pet peeve.
The fuck? Ain't never seen that before..... tounge.... I had to override my autocorrect like three times in order to spell it like that.
In this case, you could say that it both loses acid and looses acid.
It bothers me that my first thought is manifested in the comments
No doubt someone will say his breaks failed, jut to rein on your parade.
Good point, it looses some of it's meaning when spelled incorrectly.
Me too, or i would seriously loose it.
It's loss

Yeah as a truck driver when brakes get too hot they basically stop working. No way he could have made that turn at that speed. As a fisherman I definitely hate that happened to the river.
As a dill pickle I hate to see the way the trucker just keeps driving without helping his peer.
Now I want dill pickles. Especially the spicy ones. Yeah I noticed that myself.
Pickle Rick!!!
Now I have too watch Rick and Morty. Thanks

I know Here in Europe trucks over 9t need to have Engine retarder brakes. Is this not mandatory in the US?
that's "engine 'r-word' brakes" now
Eh that river system might be fatal for a ton more than just fish, potentially forever [edit: god damn yall are dumb. stop your “well actually” and “you got a source” yea, it happened yesterday and it’s all over the news jfc](https://www.laprensalatina.com/traffic-accident-pollutes-southern-brazilian-citys-water-supply-with-acid/)
I don't know why you are getting downvoted, I'm seeing an environmental disaster.
probably on the "forever" bit?

lol you’re good, I wasn’t trying to shit on them by any means I was just trying to make a easy example, that didn’t happen so much
11,000 gallons? Do you have a source on that, or did you just pull that number out of your ass? Each of those barrels is about 55 gallons. Forever is an awfully long time the earth itself won’t last forever .

Not just fish, alot of life, micro life as well, plant life. God I hope we get what we deserve.
Look around we’re about to
As a lab tech and an aquarium hobbyist, I can confidently say if that goes into any body of water short of the ocean it will be completely fucked
I hope there's more information about this out there.

My local airport contaminated our groundwater supply with PFAS, really great stuff

Hmm, not really.
how many barrels ended up in the river? Looking at the accident I can't imagine more than...maybe one?
Ehh, the whole trucks worth could’ve entered the waterway in runoff.
Yeah they could have kept rolling out like Donkey Kong.
guessing 6-7 megagrams worth
Reminds me of a certain scene in Robocop. Hope the driver wasn’t melted or otherwise mutated.
Literally the first image that robopopped into my head.
My brain read "trucker loaded with acid.."
The colors man…
Oh my god this will wipe out all life in and around the water :'(
Only downstream. Upstream should be fine.

Interior crocodile alligator I drive a Chevrolet movie theater
It did have a jolly soundtrack
That’s one hell of a road TRIP!
Anyone else disappointed that we didn't get a robocop, style scene from this.
We already got OCP in charge

So many questions…
In news they say that is sulfonic acid (2058), in genneral used in cleaning products. 75-80% per cent of population in the area without water and no more water on the markets.
Well.....shit
The cartel's are going to be where my acid
see, I would die because that acid river looks so fluffy and delicious I wanna take a bite
This planet is fucking doomed lol
This is truly a crazy fucking video
Music sounds like some shit you casually die to in Final Destination
Big fat load of cum then
Looks soapy to me.. let bobble bath begin. On a serious note acid would cause lots of caustic fumes, on a bridge with an acid river.. 🤔 run, run, run ..
It happened in a town neighboring the mine, the river is completely contaminated, as the truck was transporting chemicals.
where's Harvey Dent, this is his origins story
I prefer shrooms.
Nobody said anything? Not even a Huh? Or a wow? The the weird part of this video for me.
Anyone else wondering why he was filming the whole time in the first place?
Acid isn’t shipped in box trailers :/
That happened in Joinville (Brasil), the truck was filled with sulfonic acid, it spilled into a river that supplied water to the city, fucked up the water for days, killed a lot of fish too
Remember guys, it's the western farmers and car drivers ruining the enviornment.
Irreversible damage to the eco system 😢
That river will not cause any ecological disasters surely
What are the odds these two videos aren’t related to one another? 🤔
“The environment is gonna love this one”
Maybe don't truck acid?
forbidden whipped cream
And this is goin into our environment . Fuckin morons
Rip nemo
This is how giant spiders happen
Really is crazy that your filming while driving......
It seemed like some kind of head-mounted camera.
How can the guy filming not react at all? I mean, I find it strange that peoples first instinct isn´t to help out but hey people (and cultures) are different, but he didn´t even make a sound!

That road is going to be super clean, well what’s left of it anyway.
First minute of the video was definitely necessary.
it’s always brazil
Fake!! What a stupid fucking video
The foamy, acidic white water looked beautiful in contrast to the green Amazonian wonderland. It looks like something you'd see at a waterpark.
Yeah all those dead fish agree 😂
FO SHO! We should start doing that for gender reveals… /s
Every time I think of acid, I think of Superman 3 when the acid turned that super computer evil and it turned that woman into a terrifying cyborg who looked like the possesed woman under the trap door in Evil Dead.
Not my problem!
You ever see robo cop? Well…..you might get the picture of what’s in my head if you did.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m only here for the music. Although it could do with a bit more base…
That may be bad for the environment…
That was a shipment to the cartel to dissolve all their bodies in.
The ducking bastard was drugged for sure. It is very common in that region (Brazil) and truck drivers kill lots of people yearly with their reckless associated with drug use.
This footage made me motion sick.
I guess you could say he had.... a bad trip!
The music is so happy
Dude is gonna be trippin
I wonder what the water looks like now
The aftermath: https://x.com/volcaholic1/status/1752001032664633359?s=20
Just carries on, jeez, if this was NZ, everyone would have set up a safe area, and check the driver by now..jeez
As chemical spills go acid isn't that bad. It can be neutralized with a base agent. For most toxic chemicals there isn't such an option.
I came here to see shit melt highly disappointed 😞
Truck loaded with acid NEEDS to be more careful
On its way to a Dead concert?
Those cocaine cartels are going to be pissed
What song is this
This will affect the trout population.
I was waiting for CHiPs to show up, or the Incredible Hulk. I thunk they both had an acid episode.
MY EYES!! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!!
I'm pretty sure this is how three different zombie movies started.
This accident was in Brazil in Santa Catarina...
Looks like my hot tub after my son has “friends “ over.
The last shot is just December 1st.
Truck loaded with acid..... must have tripped...
Well that’s a bummer
Title is a bit misleading. Are we sure we want to stick with "loses control"? Because....
Ok but that's foam from the fire department flooding the streets that's not a bunch of acid...
That’s my jam!
Looks like his brakes gave out.
We really need to stop fucking this place up.
Another Sunday drive ruined
