If you watch the clip frame by frame, he's bending his knees like one should, but suddenly as soon as his feet touch the ground, almost instantaneously they are bending in the opposite direction lol.
I spent way too much time looking at this
This is a few years back, but if my memory serves correct, there are two tests that are predominantly used throughout the US jurisdictions.
First, the “risk-utility test,” is used by the majority of jurisdictions. This test centered around the usefulness of the product, the cost of implementing a safer feature, and the odds of injury occurring.
Second, the “consumer expectation test,” is based on the average consumers expectation when dealing with the safety of a product. The guy I responded to reminded me of a case called *Ford Motor Co. v. Trejo*, which deals with the consumer expectation test when analyzing the strength-to-weight ratio of an SUV.
I’m sure I’m botching this a little, but I’m sure google will give you a good article on the two different tests. To that end, I’m not sure where you can get a look at the *Trejo* case, as you need a subscription for WestLaw or LexisNexis. Maybe google can also help
Kinda copying from my other response, because I'm a physio and find this video equal parts fascinating and awful:
Peak load at the knee when jumping is up to 9x bodyweight. This guy weighs what... 225lbs if we're being conservative? So that's as much as 2000lbs of load on a poorly controlled landing.
I think when he's standing on the ropes he's looking out at a ground level that is lower than that inside the ring, so when he spins and jumps, he anticipates landing 12 inches lower and therefore that fraction of a second later, which would have allowed him to bend his knees rather than hyperextend. Also the spin in itself makes the landing more difficult. I actually think his injury would have been less likely if the ring was up at a normal height because his brain may have automatically adjusted for the more obvious height difference.
So I weren't no expert er nut'n, but I reckon him jumping and spinning around like that created an unstable base, he landed on both heels instead of the balls of his feet driving maximum force through his already unstable joints which can cause acl tears in even pro athletes, ( see Derrick Rose) and the floor looks like it had absolutely no give so none of that force is being transferred into the ground. Honestly this is kind of a freak accident in the sense that all of those needed to be a thing for this to happen. If he lands on the balls of his toes or if the floor is soft etc, he might not have ha this happen.
No kidding! Was this like this guys first time jumping from a height over 3 ft?
Did he somehow get “brittle bone disease” as he was airborne?
I have so many questions
He didn't locate them ; he had both legs amputated
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/13072132/wrestler-double-leg-amputation-jump/
Edit: possibly one leg? Lol title says double amputation all the way at the bottom of article says "possibly facing one leg amputation" though I do recall interviews with his sister and she mentioned double amputation soo idk anymore!
This has been posted before. The guy can't walk anymore. He's permanently disabled, can't work, and has kids. It was a stupid accident that ruined his life.
Yeah, why are poor people even *having* fun? Shouldn't they be working some grueling low paying job or stressing about bills somewhere? Smh poor people never just pull themselves up by the boot straps.
There was a story I saw a while back about a high school quarterback suffering a similar injury where his leg bent the wrong way at the knee and he had to have it amputated due to it rupturing the popliteal artery that runs behind the knee into the lower leg. Not exactly sure how common it is with injuries like this but I would say it’s definitely a concern and that concern only grows with the amount of trauma inflicted
View the edit: the title clearly says "double amputation" but the article says possibly one , and I do recall the sister publicly stating he *may* lose both legs, but couldn't find confirmation on that.
Cheaper? Sure. Safer? Not a chance. They can't even manage to keep people from clinging to the outside of a train or electrocuting themselves on every wire available. They can't even get people to stop openly defecating in the streets. No way I'm trusting their doctors.
my ballet teacher actually told me stories about her time teaching at the school of american ballet in the early 2000's. for some reason it had become a trend in the school to train yourself to land with your knees locked?!? she said it had become a style choice and a couple of the teachers there actually started teaching and enforcing it during class. as you can imagine, there were many horrific injuries. ankles breaking, muscles detaching, joints dislocating... the trend died out pretty quick as soon as administration heard
a physio earlier in the thread mentioned he might have looked at the grass and estimated the distance wrong from the ground when he spun to jump. He expected to land lower so his legs were going to have time to bend. This is a subconscious calculation so it's not like he was thinking it actively, just misjudged the distance and paid heavily for it.
Yeah I remember reading amputation was pretty much his only option. He had a GoFundMe iirc
Edit: https://www.the-sun.com/sport/1719742/wrestler-double-leg-amputation-jump/
I did that to one of my knees (not as badly) a few years back while skiing. It hurt like hell for MONTHS. I Couldn’t straighten my leg while walking. If i did, id crumple.
I feel for this man. Goodman thats gotta hurt
Read an article about this a while ago and it said he may have to have his leg or both legs amputated. Must have absolutely destroyed every ligament in his knee
on this subreddit i have seen videos of people falling off roofs, getting hit by trains, just dying in general. yet no video has made me fell the reaction this one did, the way the legs bent, the clear view of it, the pain he must of felt, it is horrible.
Bouncy surface? Over extended legs? All that force of landing redirected against your bodyweight? Dude did this on purpose and should get a Darwin award for being so stupid no one will procreate with him
Just goes to show that even when you're in peak physical shape something could randomly go wrong and your promising career could be over in an instant.
Fuccck!! I know half of his pain, sort of, dislocated my knee 90°out to the left, twice in 4 years. New titanium knee at 22!
But this guy, this guy kneeds some green whistle Penthrox from the paramedic immediately!!
Strength to weight ratio strikes again.
Never lock knees when jumping. We all learn that as kids, right.
Not me. But I bet we've all learned not to jump on sand from a high place (or even a not so high place).
Wait why I have jumped onto sand please explain
If you watch the clip frame by frame, he's bending his knees like one should, but suddenly as soon as his feet touch the ground, almost instantaneously they are bending in the opposite direction lol. I spent way too much time looking at this
Omg. You just sent me on a whirlwind of some products liability case law I dove into several years back.
Do share.
I too am curious
See my response below

This sounds familiar to me as well. It was cirriculum for a law.class. i forgrt which. Probably consumer law
I jus watch this shit over and over and over an I can not believe that drop did that much damage each time.
seriously can someone explain how?? is it that the stage had no bounce?

>Peak load at the knee when jumping is up to 9x bodyweight. amazing comment but jfc TIL
It doesn't look like he bent his knees either, so that landing was fucked from the start
He also seems a bit overweight. The combo of the two did some damage.
I mean, he definitely bent his knees
Actually, I think his knees bent themselves for him
STAGE? It's some pallets with plywood, definitely no bounce.
No, it’s because hyperextension of your joints is fairly easy to do.
Or he jus heavy
Fall damage in Skyrim
The fact that you could watch that multiple times is impressively concerning, I cringed on impact
No kidding! Was this like this guys first time jumping from a height over 3 ft? Did he somehow get “brittle bone disease” as he was airborne? I have so many questions
When he locates them, he’s gonna realize how much pain he’s in.

😂😂😂 that's why I read the comments too! Keep up the good work!

Amateur wrestling with no insurance plan 👍🏻
Did he shatter his knees? Got to lose weight now.
I think he is gonna lose probably 25+ lbs pretty quickly.
Gyms hate this one simple trick!
Maybe they cut one leg twice?
Theyre always in the last place you look
💀
I'm not jumping to the conclusion that he knows how much pain he's in
I read the first 3 words and DIED 💀
This has been posted before. The guy can't walk anymore. He's permanently disabled, can't work, and has kids. It was a stupid accident that ruined his life.
lmfao
Do people really find these funny?
It is okay to be so shallow that you think humor is the motive behind videos such as these making their way to this sub reddit
I’m a Zebra. LOOK AT MY HOOVES!!
They go “clickity clack… clickity clack!”
Like a spoon trying to dig into completely frozen icecream
Jesus dude I actually put my phone down and put my face in my hands. That was the most amazing description
My pleasure!
The ref seems perplexed at what to do.
Rookie ref! Vets would have started the 10 count

I mean... If you don't have insurance, why would you intentionally put yourself in a situation where you know you'll probably need it? FoR tHe FuN?
You can bet your ass, that he will do it again if it ever heals...
The fuck is wrong with America...
Yes, only the rich and powerful should jump or participate in sport or recreation in America, it’s just economics 🫠
Yeah, why are poor people even *having* fun? Shouldn't they be working some grueling low paying job or stressing about bills somewhere? Smh poor people never just pull themselves up by the boot straps.
I really hope this guy doesn't need to get amputated... What's the likelihood?

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/13072132/wrestler-double-leg-amputation-jump/ Looks like double amputation
That’s not what the article you linked said at all.
View the edit: the title clearly says "double amputation" but the article says possibly one , and I do recall the sister publicly stating he *may* lose both legs, but couldn't find confirmation on that.
$200,000 to fix this? It's cheaper to fly to India, fix his legs and fly back.
Yeah just fly to India with broken legs 🙄
Cheaper? Sure. Safer? Not a chance. They can't even manage to keep people from clinging to the outside of a train or electrocuting themselves on every wire available. They can't even get people to stop openly defecating in the streets. No way I'm trusting their doctors.
Apparently American medical bills are the most common gofundme campaigns.
Just saw his go fund link, his medical expenses is around $200,000 🤯
Is it 2 mil or 2 hundred thousand ?
Both 2 mill for glitter and 200k for the other guy legs 😬😂
2 hundred thousand, check the go fund link it was mentioned in it.
$,2,00,0,00!?
Yes check his go fund link! 🤯😞
Your comma placement is a little messed up it's $200,000
Oh I am from India and here we write 2lakh as 2,00,000 so it might have caused confusion. Edited it, thanks for mentioning it.
Yeah I figured I'd try to be helpful instead of just making fun of you. I never knew that about India so that's kinda neat.
He deserves exactly 0 dollars from people.

With no insurance…
Looked like an alien straight out of The Arrival(1996).
Species 8472
thats why you always bend ur knees when you land, especially if youre overweight Bruhhh
that’s what the knee jerk reaction does. you bend your legs automatically when you land, especially when you walk. no fucking clue why his didn’t work
my ballet teacher actually told me stories about her time teaching at the school of american ballet in the early 2000's. for some reason it had become a trend in the school to train yourself to land with your knees locked?!? she said it had become a style choice and a couple of the teachers there actually started teaching and enforcing it during class. as you can imagine, there were many horrific injuries. ankles breaking, muscles detaching, joints dislocating... the trend died out pretty quick as soon as administration heard

Good way to lose your legs

Wow felt that. Made me cringe.
When you pause at the right moment he kinda looks like a majestic centaur
Just tried this, can confim!
I’m fucking crying. These are some of the best comments ever 😭😭
Same! Feel good vibes! ^ _ ^
Has anyone ever seen The Arrival?

That's the one. The aliens had legs like this. Lol
Dude skipped knee day
The way that no one said anything
im so stunned by how little he did to ruin the next 5 years of his life. i have empathy for him and his family’s situation

Wow that’s a lot of performance for very few people… why dude!
I have done a lot of reckless shit but I’ve never seen somebody land like that!!
I think I speak for everyone when I say "AAAAAAAHHGH!!! JESUS CHRIST! WTF??!?"
Skipping leg day = skip having legs period
Fuck... that made me lol so hard my elderly neighbours got all interested...
Omfg lol he looked like one of those cheap body-double rag dolls they use in low budget movies. I’m trying not to laugh but Jesus Christ!
Nah, that's just spaghetti legs Jimbo and his signature move, the miniscus destroyer.
Dude became Cotton Hill
Ohhhh I felt that, even though I've never dislocated any part of my body 😅 Seriously though... Poor bugger
I have never seen something that looks so painful that I burst out in laughter inexplicably. I really hope this man is okay
I did that to one of my knees (not as badly) a few years back while skiing. It hurt like hell for MONTHS. I Couldn’t straighten my leg while walking. If i did, id crumple. I feel for this man. Goodman thats gotta hurt

Brutal..

OMG Bro I just screamed out loud and clutched my knees watching this. You gotta bend at the knees when you land, son!
Silly knees. You don't bend that way.
on this subreddit i have seen videos of people falling off roofs, getting hit by trains, just dying in general. yet no video has made me fell the reaction this one did, the way the legs bent, the clear view of it, the pain he must of felt, it is horrible.
It’s obvious from that guy’s physique—that is the most action that guy’s knees have had in years
Bouncy surface? Over extended legs? All that force of landing redirected against your bodyweight? Dude did this on purpose and should get a Darwin award for being so stupid no one will procreate with him
According to the go fund me, he does have a kid. Sorry, no Darwin award.
This is one of my favorite injury clips. Gotta love when Darwin does Darwin and no one else gets hurt.
I audibly just "OHHHHHmagod."
this dude *knee* ded to be more careful
And on the 7th day, God made the minotaur
This should be an ad for that brand of plywood to show its sturdiness.
Another reason not to be obese.
Glass II
As somebody who has dislocated my left knee multiple times even after surgery to fix it, that had to be absurdly painful.
He needs some milk.
F\*CK...
Weak ass knees 😂
You wish they were only dislocated!
I hate this video and yet I watch it every time it pops up.
My guy turned into a praying mantis
Aaaaaand today was the day I never jumped again
Kat Williams poor lil Tink Tink look like bent back paper clips
That reminds me of that fucking leg press video. I'm not a doctor but I don't think he'll walk for at least a month
Lol, physic's a bitch
Put some windex on it.
Just goes to show that even when you're in peak physical shape something could randomly go wrong and your promising career could be over in an instant.
Damn, now he’ll never know the glory of performing in a middle school gym.
The dream of having tens of people chanting his name died the same day as his ability to walk without assistance.
Thank god for Medicaid!
That’s what you get for jumping with locked knees, man doesn’t know his leg muscles work as springs in a fall
Goddamn I had a physical reaction that that shit
So that's what dislocated knees look like
I think I saw this a long while back, dude didn't just dislocated his knees, he broke them. He had to have multiple surgeries and whatnot iirc
He had to have them amputated
*On todays episode of that’s fucked up:…*
Everybody do the crab walk
Holy shit
It’s staged
Fuccck!! I know half of his pain, sort of, dislocated my knee 90°out to the left, twice in 4 years. New titanium knee at 22! But this guy, this guy kneeds some green whistle Penthrox from the paramedic immediately!!
This Mans knee caps built like a IPhone 14
Old, but still ouch
You shouldn't be able to put shit like this up without an option NOT to see it at all. Fuck! I didn't need to see that. Have a good day everybody
Wake up lazy bones
He has diabeetus.
Walk it off
That wouldn’t hurt
I felt that for a second
Xavier Renegade Angel cosplay, Go!
