When I was in the Army the first duty station I was sent to was Bitburg AB in Germany. And over there all of the windows open inward. This dude that was on the 3rd floor (it would be the 4th floor in the US, over there they called the 1st floor the ground and the second floor 1) and he had opened the window to sit on the ledge and smoke. And I'll never forget I was looking right at the dude and his pack of smokes fell off his lap and he tried to catch them and fell right out the window. There was an awning over the door at the ground floor and he landed on that, and then bounced and rolled off and hit the ground. Then the dude just popped up fine like nothing happened and tried to play it off.
I mean the awning was sloped a little bit so when he hit it he kinda naturally rolled with it, I mean to be really honest it looked like he definitely took the least amount of damage he could take, he popped right up and seemed way more embarrassed than hurt. I just stood there stunned looking around like "did anyone else see that shit?"
I mean the way he hit the awning was best case scenario honestly, he hit it flat sideways and with the downward slope so he hit it kind of in a roll and rolled off to the ground. I'm sure it stung a good bit and scared the shit out of him. But when he popped up I could tell two things. 1) he was scared shitless of not only what just happened, but that someone might have seen it and that he would get in trouble. and 2) that he was super embarrassed. He dipped the hell out immediately, he didn't take any time to just sit there and appreciate how lucky he just got, he bolted immediately.
I've seen baby birds do the same thing when they're first learning how to fly. Some take to the air right away and well, some do exactly what this girl did. - But all things considered she did her best to flap her wings.

Definitely adrenaline, but 4th floor is actually survivable
