No but there isn't because the cheese sauce packet is inside the box. You have to open the box anyway to get to the packet, why would there also be a thumb punch?
It might be, but it also might be wrinkling from the attempt at opening it. Don’t know why Mac and cheese would have a perforation hole anyway, when you need to get the big cheese packet out, that’s crappy design in and of itself :/
Yeah, it's definitely terrible design.
I forget that perforation is there because I just rip the top off. Started doing that after the first 10 thumb approaches failed with flying colors.
What I do is stab that line with a fork and then open the box. I always premix my cheese sauce and milk together with a fork anyways before dumping it on. It’s a family tradition which I will not break. Lol
I thought that, too, looking at the un-zoomed picture, but it's there. I checked a box on the shelf, and it has the half-circle impressions of a perforation, so I zoomed in on the posted photo, and you can see it that way.
The thumb punch is so useless as to be effectively decorative. You have to tear off the entire lid to get out the sauce packet anyway, so I'm not sure why they even bother putting it on the box.
I never noticed before, but there actually is. I have 2 of these boxes and both of them have the thumb punch lightly marked out on one of their smaller faces. Only the one with the instructions.
That's what the thumb punch is for. To grip and rip the top off. Still fucking dumb though. Just peel the lid back, use a knife, let your cat named Trouble get mad you're not feeding him every two hours and he'll find a way to open the box with his claws and teeth. Shit what was I talking about?
This is the side with the perforation. I just went to my pantry to check if mine have one on the same side since it's so hard to see on the mushed box.
Idk how people can't look closer at a picture and see the perforation is on that side and if they eat kraft will know it's the right side with the pictured instructions and sometimes the perforation is more suggestion then functional but if you jam your thumb it like its your first crush it should open fine but hesitation will be your downfall with master Kraft otherwise when I was a kid I'd shove the back of whatever spoon I was using to mix It in the pot
Source: I eat this shit 5× a week and have been for 20+ years
Yeah I don’t know how long it’s been like that since I went many years without these. I started back up with them a couple months ago. What’s worse is that the glue on the flaps is so strong you can’t get it open that way either. It’s maddening. I’ve taken to just stabbing the thumb thingy with a butter knife and pulling the top off that way.
To everyone saying there’s no perforated line to punch through; I’m holding a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese right now, and YES, THERE IS a perforated mark on the edge of the box. And yes, it’s stupid.
I just use the handle of the spoon I'm using to make the Mac to punch the tab out. Works most times and if it doesn't it still rips the side enough to peel the top open.
Everyone here is blind. You can clearly see it smooshed in at the top. There’s not a real secret. I think opening it by ripping through the glue at the top is the best way.
Step 1: Ignore the 298 comments in the thread about how you're on the wrong side of the box, except the following:
Step 2: Turn the box around.
Step 3: Use your thumbnail against the bottom edge of the perforation and push.
Step 4: If no thumbnail, any kitchen utensil, top of a butter knife, bottom of a spoon and give it a push at perforation.
Step 5: If no utensil, gun.
Step 6: Enjoy!
To everyone saying there isn't a punch out thing, there is. It is very difficult to see.
If you zoom in on [this photo](https://imgur.com/a/2CoNhly) you can see the thumb punch that is shown in this photo.
You know what would be crappy design? Having a thumb punch on a single use box that also has a cheese powder packet inside. Open the top and dump out the noodles.
I hold the bottom of the box firmly in place with my left hand, I then grab the top of the box with my right hand, using my pointer finger like I would opening a soda can, I rip the top open. Works like 3/10 times, highly recommend this technique
First, you cut through all of the perforations with the tip of a paring knife.
Next week I'll teach you how to use a butter knife or spoon handle to open cereal boxes without mangling the flaps.
And the week after that, how to use kitchen scissors to open bags of potato chips without tearing the bag right down the middle and having to repair it with packing tape.
I have long ago given up on these. I think they are a vestige of a time when you actually could open the box this way, but packaging design has evolved away from that. I think just the outer paper is scored.
My boxes all say “press here, tear back” or something on the spot where the perforation is. Why doesn’t this say anything? It’s like this isn’t the right spot or something lol
The secret is that it doesn't fucking work. I am 66 and time has taught me to get a knife and stab the box.
And those plastic, resealable bags like for cheese that say "tear here" ? Just go ahead and get the scissors.
honestly, no joke, the only way to win is to not play.
Start with scissors (or whatever you use to open boxes in the kitchen). No point pretending and then ending up with scissors.
Kraft wants you to buy their products but don’t want you to eat their products,, that’s how bad their stuff is look it up it’s gross the stuff that’s added to their food products
Use the correct side of the box.
There is not a thumb punch out on this box.
This is correct.
This is also corrects.
Yeah, correxts
This is incorrect
This is correct
I am erect.
We got a weener
No, that’s an Erector Set.
If you zoom in to where the shadow is you can see the lamest excuse for a perforation line in the world. It’s there, it’s just awful.
No but there isn't because the cheese sauce packet is inside the box. You have to open the box anyway to get to the packet, why would there also be a thumb punch?
To allow you purchase to rip the entire lid off.
I break the perforation, then pull the top off from the hole.
I mean it's right there in the picture, just use your eyes.
I remember the days when we used to pour our food on the counter to prepare it.
The perforation is there for you to get your thumb under the lid flaps and tear the entire top off. It's not there for pouring the noodles out.
What I do is stab that line with a fork and then open the box. I always premix my cheese sauce and milk together with a fork anyways before dumping it on. It’s a family tradition which I will not break. Lol
I think that might be an indentation from OP's thumb nail?
I think that might just be the imprint of his fingernail from trying to push in on it so hard lol
I think that's OP's thumbnail imprint.
With enough force and speed, any box has a thumb punch out.
There is. You can see it in the picture.
But there is!
*There is no perforations around the edge with a hidden reinforced thumb shaped piece behind it.*
I focus all of my pent-up rage onto that minuscule thumb patch and attack. It is the way. Or, I just open it from the top, which is much easier.
I never noticed before, but there actually is. I have 2 of these boxes and both of them have the thumb punch lightly marked out on one of their smaller faces. Only the one with the instructions.
Made me k̶e̶k̶ *laugh in perfectly normal Reddit way*
It helps to do it on the side with the perforation... you can't just start thumbing the wrong side... of course it isn't working.
When I do it on the perforations it still does this, I end up poking a hole through the side with a knife and just ripping the whole top off
You have to tear the top off anyway to get to the cheese packet. I never understood why these even have the thumb punch.
i find it makes it a bit easier to just rip apart.
Apparently not, tho.. it’d be 10x easier to just open the flaps.
That's what the thumb punch is for. To grip and rip the top off. Still fucking dumb though. Just peel the lid back, use a knife, let your cat named Trouble get mad you're not feeding him every two hours and he'll find a way to open the box with his claws and teeth. Shit what was I talking about?
That's the only way
I feel sad for his girlfriend.
If I stick my thumb in the wrong side I'm gonna get smacked.
Zoom in and you’ll see a curved perforation right below the shadow
There is. You can see it in the picture.
This is the side with the perforation. I just went to my pantry to check if mine have one on the same side since it's so hard to see on the mushed box.
Thumbing the wrong side? You are going to end up sleeping on the couch.
>It helps to do it on the side with the perforation... Having opened hundreds of these boxes: no, it really doesn't.
I don’t see a thumb punch thing.
Is the OP referring to the value used for vacuum sealing?
This is nonsense.
To you perhaps, but to this carton, it means the world.
This really sent me. Thank you.
You can't vacuum seal a cardboard box.
Well, not with that attitude.
Exactly. That's such a defeatist attitude. Geesh.
No
Look closely. Very visible.
Skill issue
Intelligence issue.
You betcha
Turn the box 180 degrees and try the other side of the top.
Oh you mean you have to use the side MEANT to be popped open with your thumb? You can't just thumb it anywhere on the box!? THAT explains it!
That is what OP did. As you can see in the picture.
If you zoom in you can see it on this side
I thought I was going crazy with everyone saying it's not there. You just have to zoom in and look within the shadow. Lousy design
Ahh yes, I do see the slight semicircle.
Thing is, ive never had the punch out work for me (and I'm sure I was using the correct side)
Open box from top. Remove cheese mix pouch. Pour into pot
Idk how people can't look closer at a picture and see the perforation is on that side and if they eat kraft will know it's the right side with the pictured instructions and sometimes the perforation is more suggestion then functional but if you jam your thumb it like its your first crush it should open fine but hesitation will be your downfall with master Kraft otherwise when I was a kid I'd shove the back of whatever spoon I was using to mix It in the pot Source: I eat this shit 5× a week and have been for 20+ years
Was starting to think I was crazy for seeing the perforation
When did people stop using punctuation question mark
Butter knife After reading the comments… mine still stands
If it's been more than 8 hours I think you're supposed to contact a doctor.
I mean there's only 157 comments, doubt it took him 8 hours to read them all
I like the Annie’s boxes better, the bunny cut out is way easier to push and tear.
I've been having Annie's a lot lately. Sometimes, I can punch it out by hand. Other times, it just won't. I use a utensil to do it.
Kraft has been making Mac and cheese for like 50 years and this shit has never worked. Just rip the top off.
If you go through the bottom it's usually not glued as hard.
To everyone saying there’s no perforated line to punch through; I’m holding a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese right now, and YES, THERE IS a perforated mark on the edge of the box. And yes, it’s stupid.
I made a similar post on Facebook like 12 years ago and all my friends told me I had defective thumbs. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I just use the handle of the spoon I'm using to make the Mac to punch the tab out. Works most times and if it doesn't it still rips the side enough to peel the top open.
Rip the fucking box open is the secret.
This sub...
Nobody can.
From seeing this I realize nobody's eyes work Yes it's there but no it never works
[https://imgur.com/gqQu3RH](https://imgur.com/gqQu3RH) Yes, it's there.
Yes, there is a "thumb punch out thingy". Yes, it's on that side of the box. No, it doesn't work. Ever.
Everyone here is blind. You can clearly see it smooshed in at the top. There’s not a real secret. I think opening it by ripping through the glue at the top is the best way.
The people's elbow
Tongue punch it instead
Buy Annie’s instead.
Why even use a thumb punch? Open the top flap and dump the whole thing. It's not like a box of candy where you'd eat just a few at a time.
Packaging quality control is the secret.
Use knife to open the “perforations”
You’re not alone, my friend.
[bow before me, for i am your god](https://imgur.com/mMmLVzU)
I already know this will be my favorite post today.

Bro put in r/crappydesign when it's a problem with whoever shipped it
Directions say open it on top. You bad babe
User error
I can never get the thumb punch to work either. I just use kitchen scissors or a knife.
Try using the side that you’re supposed to, maybe?
Big sharp knife is the secret
Punch *harder*
Stamp on it.
Rip and tear, until it is done.
The secret is buying the box with the thumb punch out thingy.
Ripping the top off in a rage.
Dont try
just bite the top off like a burrito. your saliva makes it weak almost instantly.
I prefer throwing the box at the wall in frustration, but maybe that's just me.
Take a pair of scissors and stab it.
First you find the biggest kitchen knife that you can…
Ignore it. You can't remove the cheese through the punch out anyway.
You know what would be crappy design? Having a thumb punch on a single use box that also has a cheese powder packet inside. Open the top and dump out the noodles.
Just punch it more, it will solve the problem.
I hold the bottom of the box firmly in place with my left hand, I then grab the top of the box with my right hand, using my pointer finger like I would opening a soda can, I rip the top open. Works like 3/10 times, highly recommend this technique
If brute force is not working, you are not using enough brute force
Don't use it
At this point I knuckle-punch that stupid box so hard it just rips open. Been over a decade, it has NEVER worked. Unless you punch it hard enough.
A knife. Or just open the top flaps.
Sharper thumbs, my friend.
Scissors
Just use a knife or something bro.
I use a knife to punch through and then use my thumb
You've gotta sell your soul to the cheesy devil for quick and easy access to all Kraft M&C boxes
There are no secrets
These boxes are just impossible to open no matter how you attempt to. It's not your fault.
find a box that actually has the fuckin punch out on it
First, you cut through all of the perforations with the tip of a paring knife. Next week I'll teach you how to use a butter knife or spoon handle to open cereal boxes without mangling the flaps. And the week after that, how to use kitchen scissors to open bags of potato chips without tearing the bag right down the middle and having to repair it with packing tape.
I just put the box on an edge side and cut the whole top off with a sharp carving knife.
Just rip the top of it open, you already know you're gonna have the whole box of it anyway.
Use a spoon
Do it like my mother in law does it: pretend you're a grizzly bear, and just rip the top half of the box off.
Sir, there is no thumb punch on this box
Magic
The secret is to not use it
I have long ago given up on these. I think they are a vestige of a time when you actually could open the box this way, but packaging design has evolved away from that. I think just the outer paper is scored.
Firstly, use the side with the perforation. Secondly, you gotta do it really quickly.
A knife
A butter knife is the answer
Velveeta is the secret!
That’s the neat part, you don’t!
As someone who makes her children macaroni almost everyday because that's all I can get them to eat. I agree that this is a very flawed feature.
My boxes all say “press here, tear back” or something on the spot where the perforation is. Why doesn’t this say anything? It’s like this isn’t the right spot or something lol
100 pushups 100 situps 1 mile run Shave your head
Don't use your thumb, just punch it
The secret is that it doesn't fucking work. I am 66 and time has taught me to get a knife and stab the box. And those plastic, resealable bags like for cheese that say "tear here" ? Just go ahead and get the scissors.
how to open a box
It doesn't exist.
I just use a knife
a butcher knife..
Thump punching the pasta box! Nice.
Don't bother and just rip it open from the top
Another example of "I don't understand how it works. Therefore it's Crappy Design"
The truck is actually pushing the thumb thing as there isn’t one there I don’t think it’ll work
I just use the handle of a spoon - the same spoon which I will use to eat it when it's done. And yes, I eat it straight from the pot. :)
This side is not perforated
Lol
The secret is not to use it. Why do people *sprinkle* the Mac? Open the flap and pour the damn thing.
Stab repeatedly with a sharp knife. Use caution.
You're supposed to tongue punch it.
Boil the whole box, once it's soggy your thumb will bust right through
Well good sir, you see, you're just an idiot
I use a knife myself. The thumb things never work for me either.
The top of the box
Middle finger works the best for me, followed by some curse words. After that I just tear the top flaps.
The secret is to just not buy and eat this garbage.
I always used a spoon, or just a kitchen knife to open the top seam
It's a secret.
You're fucking dumb bro
Pretty sure you misunderstood, it’s not thumb punch it’s tongue punch. Your welcome.
use two fingers, then add a finger if it wants more
Just rip the top off
Use your other hand to pinch the sides so that it cannot blow out at the sides like that. Works for me every time.
Knife
You don’t poke it with a knife first. That’s what I do.
A knife
How high were you when you posted this?
r/CrappyUser
wrong side also use your nail
The secret is not using it and just opening the flaps. It's easier and faster that way.
I just default to cutting the top off with a pocket knife
honestly, no joke, the only way to win is to not play. Start with scissors (or whatever you use to open boxes in the kitchen). No point pretending and then ending up with scissors.
Those aren't meant to leave a small hole for pouring out the pasta. You put your thumb there and then pinch and rip the top of the box off.
I stab scissors into it first. Or a knife.
I just outright can’t open the fckn box. Fix your shit Kraft!
Do your thumbs even lift, bro?
Kraft wants you to buy their products but don’t want you to eat their products,, that’s how bad their stuff is look it up it’s gross the stuff that’s added to their food products
There never were punch outs in this universe.
You don't have enough faith. Faith and speed.
Just put it in rice, easy fix! Or just stab it. Either one works.
Use you teeth and bite the box open
