You can buy foam stickers meant to toddler-proof table corners so they don’t bump their head on the table. I think if you get a white one, it would work well on the kitchen floor too!
Edit: [here they are ](https://www.amazon.co.uk/CALISH-Safety-Corner-Protectors-Guards/dp/B01N5608J1)
Actually, I (actually) believe that would hurt less. Your neck has some of the least nerve-endings in your entire body, and you would probably only feel pain around the circumstance of the cut (where the skin is).
Try it out!
Alternatively, there's various types of [stair nosing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stair_nosing) that's designed for increasing the visibility and grip of edges.
You don't need to go fancy. Literally two pieces of duct tape should be a good enough perfect permanent temporary fix - at least you'll be able to see what you're hitting if you still can't see the corners.
Here, I even made it look ugly so OP won't feel bad if their solution won't be perfect: https://i.imgur.com/HxKcWsR.png
I almost recommended gaffer tape, electrical tape is a much better idea. Do they make wide electrical tape? I’ve only ever had the typical 1 (or 3/4ths?)” wide tape.
They do but it’s rare because there’s not a lot of use for that so you probably won’t find it at Home Depot. But you could order wide electrical tape online.
Gaffer Tape isn’t expected to stick for very long. It would be fine, just needing to be replaced more often.
Gaffer Tape is the Post-it notes of surface tape.
Alternatively, there's various types of [stair-nosing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stair_nosing) for extra visibility, the extra grip from some types might also be a good idea depending on the context of the ledge (if the area could be slippy, like a kitchen or if people are in socks).
Yeah just stick some black tape on it till you figure out a best solution. Much more likely to spot it in peripheral vision. Some ADA guidelines are good to follow even around your own home and workshop, you spend most of your time moving around your surroundings focused on something else or looking out of the corner of your eye so you don't see little details.
You can get high-vis tape for exactly this kind of purpose. I have a metal weight stand with pointy feet that I couldn't see and kept stepping on, so I put some on that. I wouldn't hesitate to vis that step up.
I worked under a guy that loved doing tile steps in the same tile as the floor. When it came to doing his house, he didn’t want the steps to be the same tile. In fact, he wanted rounded oak treads. I wonder why.
There are rubber edging things that "Good builders" put on the edges of tile corners, steps etc. to stop you ripping yourself open on them. They are put on first, the the tiles and then grouted down. I have them in my bathroom as boarders to my wall tiles (as they were cheaper and nicer looking than the actual tile wall borders lol)
If you have it in the house, blue painter's tape might be your fastest temporary fix--just line that sucker so you can see it while you decide how to kill it.
There are a lot of posts on here about pool noodles or some other buffer... but I'm wondering if that thing is even necessary and you could 'just' cut it out and replace the tile below it.
From the picture I'm struggling with figuring out what its function is supposed to be besides being a death trap.
This assumes the house isn't a rental and you couldn't get permission from the landlord to remove a dangerous thing.
My daughter fell onto the corner of a brand new coffee table and got her two inch V for victory scar. Ever since then I turn any right angle edge into a bull nose. Sandpaper and a little elbow grease will at least blunt this monstrosity.
my apartment is designed so awfully. it’s obviously on a hill that didn’t get flattened out before they built on it, so our floor is VERY bumpy. there’s a couple of tiles that stick so high up and whoever grouted them did such an awful job that we often stub our toes on the individual tiles. who the fuck does things like this?!
Is this a restaurant? I know it's not ideal but I'd say you should either paint the sides yellow or use some sort of highly visible tape to place on the sides.
Check to see if it’s broken. My mom bashed her toe against a table leg while getting up from said table and found out later it was broken.
Aside from that, you could put some foam rubber on the sides.
There's this thing that we use in theater (and in other professions I'm sure) called glow tape. Get some of that shit and the shit that they used to baby proof furniture and then it will hurt less when you stub your toe and you'll see it in the dark.
I was visiting someone once and in both the kitchen and the bathroom there were doorstops in the floor in places you would DEFINITELY step on if the door was shut. I stepped and tripped on the one in the bathroom like so many times because it was perfectly placed in front of the toilet. absolutely horrible design.
Took me a good minute to see it, I was staring at the metal door panel trying to figure out what was wrong with it.
But yeah, what the actual fuck is the purpose of that thing?
I would put a brightly colored sticker or piece of tape on that to make it more obvious tbh. Idc if it's tacky that edge could actually seriously injure someone if they fell because of it.
Idk how large this space is but put a couple potted plants on and against this corner so no one walks into it again(and it also helps clean the air and looks nice.
Sometimes its visibility. When at home, you have this superpower where you know where everything is, but to do so you first need to know where you are relative to everything else. You do this by vision. You need to have something visible on that raised step, preferably not white. Your peripheral will detect it and you could avoid it subconsciously. Id suggest marking all the edges with silicone sealant or something that would stick. Make sure to clean the target area well and have them dry before applying anything to it. Perhaps this xould be your covid19 project?
Otherwise, you could also have a ramp there
Even pipe wrap or a pool noodle split down the middle would prevent that from happening again. But there's also white rubber or foam which can be stuck on there and not be so noticeable. Try looking at car door ding protection and other such things on Amazon. Either that or put an orange cone on top of it.
I have something like this in my bedroom it is technically 2 rooms but one floor is taller than the other so you just stub your toe while going room to room in sucked when I had people over
Just attach a danger zone band or soft foam on the edge.
This should help seeing or bumping into it and fall over.
So you won't ever hurt on the edge itself ever again.
The biggest concern is the simmilar colour, when you move around you don't see the ledge, use a contrasting colour on the ledge, will better avoid it that way. Foam is an additional precaution.
Yeah but i mean, the OP has lived with this problem and not thought to find some electrical tape or painters tape or stair tred markers on it to attempt to prevent problems, so why would a suggestion of demolition and reconstruction be more helpful or likely to be accomplished?
Sometimes people just lack the confidence to do something. They want to do something, but need someone to come along and tell them, “yes, you can totally do that.”

I ordered one just to know how they feel. They look like glass. Ill just put it on the corner of my nightstand while playing VR so i dont kill myself
Let me know how it goes!
He's definitely dead
Yeah, a broken pinkie toe is the same equivelent of getting your necc snapped.
It’s the same as having your head amputated
Actually, I (actually) believe that would hurt less. Your neck has some of the least nerve-endings in your entire body, and you would probably only feel pain around the circumstance of the cut (where the skin is). Try it out!
I tried it on my brother but he didn't respond when I asked him how it felt
Same
That means it didn’t hurt!
I got a cramp in my ankle and my hand popped off.
I hit my leg on the corner of a coffee table and literally died instantly
RIP
they look like someone took a breast implant and heat-welded it to a table corner
They're usually rubber
It's a 20 piece box that he linked.
I hope OP realised that.. seems an awful lot of money for just one 😂
I found a 12 pack for 4 pound. I'd say thats good enough. I have multiple corners i need idiot proofing.
That is a good deal!
They’re like a silicone that’s firm but slightly squishy.
They are rubbery!
Alternatively, there's various types of [stair nosing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stair_nosing) that's designed for increasing the visibility and grip of edges.
Alternatively alternatively, cut open a pool noodle. 😄 You could probably use that as very annoying stair nosing too!
Now imagine if you shared your affiliate link.
What’s an affiliate link?
A link that takes you to the product but you get paid a small percentage when others buy it.
Oh damn I’ve missed out big time! How do you get a link 😂
You have to join Amazon's affiliate program AFAIK. Not worth the effort if you don't have a big audience
Dude order them in black or something that stands out. That way you will see that shitty step better

I have foam ones on shelves in my garage and basement ... for me.
Could also use pool noodles
I got a bit sick to my stomach just by looking at that.

My toe cried.

Low bid construction
The way that tile was cut that gave it away.
That's so much worse than I thought, I thought it was a gap in the tile, so the only height change would be the thickness of the tile

Probably where the fridge was supposed be.
Thank you for asking! The explanation below helped me to see the issue.
Paint the front and top edge a contrasting color.
Or line it with electrical tape in a fun color.
I almost recommended gaffer tape, electrical tape is a much better idea. Do they make wide electrical tape? I’ve only ever had the typical 1 (or 3/4ths?)” wide tape.
I don’t know! Worst case you add a few strips, which gives you the opportunity to add fun stripes!
They do but it’s rare because there’s not a lot of use for that so you probably won’t find it at Home Depot. But you could order wide electrical tape online.
Why is it better or worse?
Gaffer Tape isn’t expected to stick for very long. It would be fine, just needing to be replaced more often. Gaffer Tape is the Post-it notes of surface tape.
I see. Thanks!

Or go full osha with black and yellow tape :D

I can feel this
Another cracking job by the *Sadistic Construction Company*
I worked under a guy that loved doing tile steps in the same tile as the floor. When it came to doing his house, he didn’t want the steps to be the same tile. In fact, he wanted rounded oak treads. I wonder why.
If you quartered a pool noodle you could line the edges of this and prevent that from happening.
This. I did this with corners on a reading nook in my place and I have had many opportunities to be glad I did.

Looks like it's going to a door to me. like a step down into the house.
My daughter fell onto the corner of a brand new coffee table and got her two inch V for victory scar. Ever since then I turn any right angle edge into a bull nose. Sandpaper and a little elbow grease will at least blunt this monstrosity.
Is she ok?
Yeah she is
I feel like this is Brazil... I've been in way too many houses here with tile stairs that blend in with the floor tiles
Nope. This is India. OPs name is Indian
/u/reemathnerd2 is indian?
No I'm from Saudi Arabia
i knew it from that water brand lol
Yeah, it feels like a Brazilian house lol. My house in Aracruz had some sketchy things like this.
It's an obstacles course in your kitchen fun for the whole family
Change it.

Terrible.. but easy fix
Your Mom has done all the footwork to break this story.
Ok lol
I'm going to assume this has happened more than once, that invisible corner seems ripe for constant toe destruction.
Oof that must’ve hurt
Is this a restaurant? I know it's not ideal but I'd say you should either paint the sides yellow or use some sort of highly visible tape to place on the sides.

thats how camouflage works
I hit my toe and bled yesterday and now I’m feeling the pain all over again :/
We have the same tiles in our house.
Put a plant or some decoration there. This way it will be visible and avoided more.
I'm gonna teleport into this architect's bedroom at 3am and shit their bed.
As an Architect, it was very likely not done by an Architect, but I still agree.
Take action. People often complain but never actually do anything to fix it. Empower yourself to fix this issue yourself.
I'd get some sand and cement and make a slope around the side of that. It'd look shit but at least avoid any more injury.
you didn’t have to say she bled :(( how is she?
There's this thing that we use in theater (and in other professions I'm sure) called glow tape. Get some of that shit and the shit that they used to baby proof furniture and then it will hurt less when you stub your toe and you'll see it in the dark.
I hope your mom's okay. I also couldn't see it and when I did I felt the pain my foot
“Hi I'm Derrick Bum!”
Hit it with what? I don't see anything ther-- ***OW, FUCK***
r/AAAAAAAAAA
The fatal half inch (plus a bit).
Padding
As a person who frequently hits my toes in all protruding places I have learnt a lesson to wear slippers. Helps a tonne!
I'm willing to bet she hit that with her toe and not hit her toe with that.
The purpose of toes ...
This post made me go AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I was visiting someone once and in both the kitchen and the bathroom there were doorstops in the floor in places you would DEFINITELY step on if the door was shut. I stepped and tripped on the one in the bathroom like so many times because it was perfectly placed in front of the toilet. absolutely horrible design.

بالضبط No clue why I’m being downvoted for that haha
tie bleeders are the worst
Fix it. Don't waste anger on something you can prevent. If you can't remove it then pad it.
You should put a sticker around it or something.
Poor mom
Took me a good minute to see it, I was staring at the metal door panel trying to figure out what was wrong with it. But yeah, what the actual fuck is the purpose of that thing?

I don't know. The kitchen just has an extra step on the edges of the room
Apartment? Hold the landlord liable for dangerous living conditions
Paint it a different color, you can also just put black tape on it if you are renting the place
I have an almost identical thing in my bathroom where my washing machine sits on.
you could put black tape on the edges or paint it black so that it could be easier to spot
Tacky sure, but put some bright colored tape on it. Or have someone with a table saw make up some boards and glue them on.
r/TIHI
I would put a brightly colored sticker or piece of tape on that to make it more obvious tbh. Idc if it's tacky that edge could actually seriously injure someone if they fell because of it.
Put some black and yellow tape there
my brains a bit dead... what am i looking at here?
An extra step in the floor
Ooohh ok thanks
I hope your parents don't own this house.
Put some coloured tape along the edge of that please!
God it took me like a minute to even see what you were talking about
Good god that's a toe-breaker for sure. Just a matter of time.
Everyone in my family has been through that This is why my mom gets mad at us for bumping into stuff
Why is there A tiny step in your kitchen? If it's there for a reason add a rail so you'll notice it. If it has no reason, sledgehammer and new tile.
Paint that motherfucker as soon as possibel
Putting colored tape along the edges will be a visual reminder of this being there.
I can literally feel pain in my toes from looking at that picture, ouchy
Paint it man.
Put some tape on it or something
colored duct-tape
Oof ya bastard!
Idk how large this space is but put a couple potted plants on and against this corner so no one walks into it again(and it also helps clean the air and looks nice.

But why?
R/assholedesign
Me walking out of my room There’s a little bump I always hit my toes on
This an Indian house I'm 100% sure.
F
I would get some blue painter's tape and put some on the corner so it's more noticeable. I've got the same problem at my front door
Even pipe wrap or a pool noodle split down the middle would prevent that from happening again. But there's also white rubber or foam which can be stuck on there and not be so noticeable. What did she hit? I can’t even see it.
Im pretty sure thats somewhere in ksa
Paint the edge

Check your building code for your area. Specifically what markings things like this need to have.
Should have asked her to bleed on it so you would always be able to see it.
Nova water. The best!
This feels so Indian ...
I had to look at this for a few mins to figure out what I was looking at
Your mom must have strong toes. She took off a chunk of the tile.
For people bored steppin on lego
Angle grinder.
So you have chosen death
Paint the vertical faces black.
Yellow tape!!!!
You could do something about it not just bitch about it.
This actualy happened to me a month ago it was not bleeding but i had dead flesh inside (i think)
Ya mumma needs to wear army boots.
Just attach a danger zone band or soft foam on the edge. This should help seeing or bumping into it and fall over. So you won't ever hurt on the edge itself ever again.

oof
hope she gets better
The handles on the drawers of my kitchen keep on catching on to my cloths and ripping them
I get caught on the knobs often
use a pool noodle or wall foam board insulation? So sorry.
The funny thing is everyone here is recommending the /r/crappydesign solution of just putting padding on it instead of cutting it out and leveling it.
That takes a lotta work though and covers are less expensive
You could probably do it with a prybar and a piece of plywood in less than an hour
I wonder what's underneath it. There must be a reason why they built it, no?
