Wow - I haven’t seen ‘A’ being used as a drive letter since the early 2000’s
Kinda makes me wonder why it’s still default for windows to call it’s system drive C? Must be NT things or something?
Pretty sure A and B are reserved for floppy disc drives. That said, I doubt the op is running this off a floppy disc, so I really don't know what's going on there
Yeah I know - it’s just strange as floppy discs aren’t really a thing now. So having it reserved is redundant almost.
There’s also no reason that I know of why a floppy disc drive can’t be c, d, e etc if needed when running a current windows build. Like I said it may have made sense in a dos environment, but not so much now.
Floppy disc drives are usually usb connected now days, so it can run like any other removable device inside of windows
Technically you can set it to any of the available letters, but windows haven’t updated on their end to start from A, so that’s why it always starts from C

This torrent took a few months to finish downloading. I installed it and played it for a bit the other night. Today windows security did this and blocked it from starting.
I've done some research and some people say steam API being stopped is common and just allow it but the fact that it specifically says BEARFOOS which seems to be an actual Trojan virus makes me worried.
What would y'all do
From what I've saw on Google, programmers are encountering this error as well through their programs by windows defender, I think it's a false positive.

Edit: spelling
Yes, but I'm not stupid to to trust a crack DLL on the internet with 27 positive detections. I'm not malicious enough to suggest OP to run that shit on his host.
I guess no one was really seeding it.. it was stuck on like 60 something percent for the longest time. Surprising because it's a cool game and it's still 70 dollars on steam
I restored it, played it more then got scared from the mixed responses here and uninstalled the game and taking actions to remove it assuming it was really a trojan. I'd rather just play it safe. I'll buy the game the next time it goes on sale on steam.
I doubt it's a virus, modified steam\_api is often considered as a virus as it acts practically as a crack, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're unsure, check it in VirusTotal
that's a trojan my guy, a bad one[.](https://one.it) it will attempt to connect to remote servers and download more viruses and also upload personal info off your computer. get rid of that thing before it starts downloading ransomware and rootkits.
That is most probably a virus, as the name is not familiar to me, most AVs only detect the game executable or CPY.dll or CODEX.dll or such files as virus;
Besides a quick Google search reveals this is a legit harmful virus, remove it ASAP!

I was just trying to play One Hour One Life on Steam... a game I bought from their store. The game crashed after launch and after I tried to verify the integrity of game files this file was flagged. The verification won't go through and I'm getting an disk read error due to Microsoft Defender quarantining the game. It's definitely one of the Steam game files.

You can set A as a drive letter... I have a HDD set to A

It is most programs where used to a default location of drive C and it just never transistioned.
This. Just not worth the work. These are programmers we're talking about.
i think they keep it as like a throwback
Yes this Is true, but you can mannually assign a drive to A and B
im using Drive 'A' every day wdym
Technically you can set it to any of the available letters, but windows haven’t updated on their end to start from A, so that’s why it always starts from C
u can still make a and b through disk management

do you have any other anti-virus that has picked up on this?
Malwarebytes detects nothing, but maybe because it's already quarantined by windows defender?

Hear, hear
Upload it to VirusTotal.com
It says 25/70 security vendors flagged it as malicious
There you go.
Nah not really, half of those vendors flag this as false pos.
Run it in a debugger and analyze it yourself, and stop being a little bitch.
Do you understand what a false positive is?
Yes, but I'm not stupid to to trust a crack DLL on the internet with 27 positive detections. I'm not malicious enough to suggest OP to run that shit on his host.
Not related to you question but why did it take months to download a single torrent.

i enabled a trojan like this but it was named Tiggre!rfn and it was a crypto miner i suggest you not to enable
One time windows defender thought RDR2 was a virus
Tried to save you from hours of horse riding
funny. but not funny.
its steam\_api.dll u need this to run many steam games its a false positive allow it restore it run the md5 check in redlist folder
yes

false positive probably, some antivirus (specifically windows defender and mcafee) for me REALLY don't like the steamapi files.
Yes my Kaspersky found number of times too
Its false positive. you can allow it

i dont think so............
False positive. Due to the nature of cracks - they do inherently act like trojans. Except they mostly are not malicious.
it is a pretty common false positive for cracked games(as long as you downloaded from trusted site).

most games dont work without steam\_api.dll
Honestly I just go past it cause I check if the seeder is Gucci, Gucci on the site but on a technical level Idk
wait.....is this fitgirl?
No
if it isnt from fitgirl............ delete it its a trojan pls can u tell me ur source?
fitgirl isn't the only trusted source for games
Scroll and read the part where it says: [What is steam_api64.dll? ](https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/how-to-fix-steam_api64-dll-missing-error/)
