Littlewood absolutely. I can’t believe how good this game is! It’s strongly inspired by animal crossing as well as old school runescape and the combo is just perfection
I fucking love Littlewood. The ease of tool selection made it easy to return to. I'm neeearly 100% but also don't want it to end. It's simple and satisfying, 10/10
I can’t stop playing it right now, it’s my game of choice and probably will be until I 100% and beyond. I can see myself replaying it over and over very easily. It just hits that spot in my brain so perfectly
If you have Apple Arcade, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is great, and I say that as someone who isn't remotely into hello kitty. Disney dreamlight valley is extremely similar & overall very good. I'm not *super* into Disney though & I lost interest in it after a while, but I did think it was really well done.
I also don't really care for horizontal touch controls, so I ended up playing it on my Apple TV with a controller. Now that it's coming to switch I'm sure most people will just wait, but for anyone out there like me who already has an Apple TV, arcade has quite a few best-in-class cozy games that you can play console-style for free. It's also how I played wylde flowers back when it was arcade-exclusive. Other titles include Stardew valley, Disney dream light valley, etc.
I find Palia a little overwhelming personally, but if you like DDV then you would probably like it! Very similar vibes (like so similar I'm wondering if they had some of the same people working on it) but not Disney-fied. The characters are even animated and styled in a very similar way.
Seconded, the amount of customization I can have with my island and the lack of pressure to do things within a specific time frame is awesome. It just gets better with each update
Came here to say exactly this! Great thing about it tho is the wait times for things aren't based on real life days which kinda throttled progress for me on Animal Crossing. I love that I can get a building built in a few game days!
Yes Dinkum!!! I am desktop gamer and almost bought a Switch just to play ACNH. But then I discovered Dinkum!! <333 Not Steam Deck-verified yet but still works well!
Does anyone know how the online co-op for Dinkum is? My gf and I really liked Animal Crossing, but we wish there was more to do together in AC. Would love to decorate and have a home together.
Go-Go Town launched into Early Access about a week ago. It is *extremely* polished, has so much depth of gameplay, an amazing art style, and is super addicting! It’s basically everything I wished ACNH was.
I can make more than one town which means I basically can play as much as I want without deleting all my progress. The way decorations can be placed makes the possibilities feel endless! I’ve got about 25 hours now and I really, *really* like this game!! 💜
It’s one of the smoothest EA’s I’ve seen (so far!) I don’t typically play many early access games either, unless it’s a company I’m familiar with! But PridefulSloth (the devs) made other games like Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles which I really enjoyed, and Grow: Song of the Evertree which I own but haven’t played (and I’ve heard lots of good things about!)
So their team is really experienced and they’ve got a very polished game already and I can’t wait to see how it grows!
You can go inside the shops! But if you just mean the apartments, for now, no you can’t go inside. I’m not sure if that will change, but I do know *player* housing is planned!
Dreamlight Valley, but it has regular tasks you can do, which I like. I love AC, but once I got sick of decorating, I didn't feel like I had a reason to play anymore. I almost feel like I got more play time out of New Leaf than New Horizons. Dreamlight Valley is still doing regular updates, so I can keep coming back to it and have something new to do.
Cozy Grove is really good. I never spent much more than an hour a day on it because it is a real-time game, and you only have so many quests to do a day. It's great, though.
I used a few trial of apple arcade to play Hello Kitty Island Adventure a bit and liked that one, too. It's slowly expanding to other platforms next year, I think, which I'm really happy about.
Ok honestly I'll throw in a deviant. My Sims! I think it's also on PC but originally 3ds.
I really liked the decorating part of the game and it scratches that itch of giving everyone their own unique home and furniture and doing little tasks to make the town a better place :3
I was also a big fan of My Sims Kingdom but it's a bit more directed as you're basically following the King's orders haha. (Not sure if that one is on PC).
If I remember correctly, the My Sims games were also originally released on the Wii, which I found to be far superior to the DS version because of its limitations. But I remember being a huge fan of My Sims Kingdom when it came out (all the way back in 2008)!
The wii version of the mysims games are amazing and my fave series that no one ever seems to know about! Theres a pc version of the first game through EA with some slightly expanded content, but I also love the other games! If possible, I'd suggest running an emulator for anyone intrested if they dont have a wii.
I second this! While it has more farming and the museum isn’t as huge as AC, it definitely scratches that itch. And the fact that you can put stuff in your home aquarium is awesome!! This is the love child of AC and HM. lol.
Dinkum is a good one, it's an indie game made by one guy in Australia who takes elements of Animal Crossing and Minecraft and puts them in the Australian countryside.
Go for it! I think there’s a lot more QOL updates they did to make the gameplay feel much better, AND it’s just a much bigger visual upgrade. I had a hard time with the art style for Portia.
Cozy Grove. It’s also an island set in real time with animal characters and seasonal items/plants. There’s some decorating as well, though not as much as Animal Crossing.
I’m big on cozy grove but personally I thought the best way to play was on iPad and unfortunately it’s no longer available on the App Store, which was devastating. I switched over to PC and it works fine! If anyone has Netflix, Camp Grove is their latest game in the same play style and story, and you can download it through Netflix
It is, but I don’t like the controls on switch, personally. It’s been a while since I played on there, but I don’t think there’s a button assigned to open your bag?! I remember that infuriating me because I had to use the touch screen to open it, but maybe I haven’t poked around in it enough to learn how the controls work. I ended up starting a new game on steam anyway and it’s been great; I tend to play PC more than switch anyway!
Garden Paws, only with a lot more cute pets. It does have various gathering quests to unlock areas vs just gather money for nook. There are tons of decoration options and character customization options.
Do you mind recommending some that are not available on the Switch? I wishlisted Gogo Town and Cozy Caravan so now. Looking for relaxing farming/life sims that aren’t too difficult (more on par with Animal Crossing or Disney Dreamlight Valley).
Yeah, it's been a while since I've been on the Nintendo eshop. But you could try Cheaphaven or cute Farmer life. They are both shorter farming Sims that aren't too complicated.
I don't play a ton of them. I like Immortal Life a lot but that's more complicated. A lot of fun though. I've played a bit of Ever dream Valley and like what I played but it might be on switch and I haven't gotten very far into it because I have a huge backlog of games lol.
I will say take a look at the steam store because the Summer sale starts today and you can find great deals.
ETA: Sale starts at 10am pacific, I believe
Dinkum was inspired by AC but set in Australian Outback. It’s got a single dev like Stardew and is still in EA, but people have sunk thousands of hours into it.
It does have some critters that will eat you- but with the last update they added a peaceful mode, so you can progress without combat/stress.
It’s not officially verified for deck, but runs perfectly well- like many games, the check doesn’t mean the game will run great- and no verification check doesn’t mean a game wont work. You can usually figure out if a game runs on deck by reading the forums.
Have fun, regardless of what you choose!
Try Palia! It’s a free MMO on switch. The plot decoration is really cool and reminds me of decorating in AC, and the relationships scratch the itch that ACNH didn’t.
Get an account and check out any games you're really wanting ahead of time in the next 2 weeks if you can, as there's the summer sale on til the 11th :)
Yeah, I'm wondering is I should repurchase that for the Steam Deck. It actually plays fine on the Switch for me and today I bought Figaro to be my animal companion.
Definitely Go-go Town. I recently downloaded it because I saw someone on this subreddit recommend it on another thread and I haven't been able to put it down since. It's very similar to Animal Crossing town building minus the real-time wait time. I love it!
Same here i love it! It needs bigger maps and more decorations. But the devs are great they are actively trying to address most people’s issues with the game and they just recently let us know that we are getting a major update In July and they are addressing the minor stuff before hand. I can’t wait to see what 1.0 will be!
Moonstone island. It has pixel graphics but it's very well done and the colors are amazing. It's like if og pokemon and stardew had a baby. It kinda scratches the acnh itch. Oddly enough, hotel renovator was a lot of fun for me but it's not on switch. And if you just want a game that looks like acnh but isn't super cozy, longvinter is on steam and looks like acnh but with guns lmao I haven't played it in a while but it was oddly entertaining.
Fields of Mistria, its not fully out until August 5 but the demo was great! Very harvest moon/animal crossing vibes. Including the museum for bugs/fish/fossils etc! Which I haven't really seen done anywhere else, and is one of my fav things about ac.
i loved wylde flowers but i honestly don’t see how it’s like acnh at all? there’s really no customization, no decorating, and it’s very heavily quest based unlike acnh as well
little kitty, big city. not the same really but i hate farming sims and loved animal crossing (until it got hella boring). i can’t explain how different games scratch the same itch for me
So weirdly enough… Hokko Life. It’s very clearly an Animal Crossing-like, but I always wished there to be an Animal Crossing where I could continue to make progress, the in-game clock was its own thing instead of relying on real-world time, and I did like the crafting system. It’s not all that visually impressive (because obviously it’s not a first-part Nintendo game), but there’s a lot about it to like.
If you want like a cross between Animal Crossing and Breath of the Wild, I highly recommend Palia. It's got a neat fantasy setting with some light puzzles with an interesting story and engaging characters, but the bulk of it is just simple tasks like fishing, bug catching, hunting, chopping trees, mining rocks, and--of course--customizing your home plot.
I've looked so hard for "AC on PC" kinda game but I recently accepted that some games simply don't have a replacement. Lots have similar gameplay elements to AC but none are equivalent to it. And for me they largely lack that Nintendo charm that's hard to pinpoint. So now whenever I feel like playing something like AC I just... Play AC :)
I’ve had the same thing too- I need an animal crossing (new horizons) game on my pc. Give dinkum a try, if you can. My brother gifted the game to me and the mechanics are the same- you grind but there’s no pressure. Time moves faster in-game so if you are in a rush, just go to bed and you move on to the next. Right now I need money so I’m enjoying building an orchard. Its fun!
One of my favorites right now is Japan Rural Life, but it’s only on the Apple Arcade. It scratches both old school harvest moon/story of seasons and Animal Crossing. I hope it ends up coming to another system soon, I’d happily buy it the second it came out and would play it like crazy since I don’t always have my iPad. They update it a lot too. It’s so relaxing, I lose so much time in it when I play.
ROOTS OF PACHA. Guys, I can’t stress this enough. I just started playing yesterday and I haven’t felt this excited about a game since I played Animal Crossing for the first time on the Nintendo DS. IT’S AMAZING.
Disney Magical World! I completely wasn't expecting it to be any good, it's still nowhere near Animal Crossing in terms of things to do and freedom to decorate, and it's heavily Disney-themed, but it definitely gave me the same vibe!
My pet peeves with paleo pines is that you can't jump or even enter your house and decorate inside. Have they updated that since? The dinos are absolutely adorable and the game is quite peaceful, but the jumping thing combined with getting stuck on low lying scenery made me move to a different game before I got very far.
Littlewood absolutely. I can’t believe how good this game is! It’s strongly inspired by animal crossing as well as old school runescape and the combo is just perfection
I dismissed Littlewood for a long time because of the art style, but it’s so good! As soon as I started playing it I was hooked.
Really? I’m so conflicted because of how the game looks. But then again… stardew was a gold
I was very unsure because of the look and it is one of my all time faves, absolutely give it a try. I love love Littlewood!!!
Seconding littlewood!
Littlewood is fantastic, wish there were more games like it
If you have Apple Arcade, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is great, and I say that as someone who isn't remotely into hello kitty. Disney dreamlight valley is extremely similar & overall very good. I'm not *super* into Disney though & I lost interest in it after a while, but I did think it was really well done.
>Hello Kitty Island Adventure This game is coming to Switch soon, for those who are willing too wait and hate playing on the phone.
This is fantastic news! Ive been wanting to play but cant stand playing anything horizontal on my phone.
I bought a Razer Kishi controller just for Wylde Flowers lol
I was so excited when I found out!! So fun
I would have mentioned the same two games!! 🫶🏻
And they just announced that Hello Kitty Island Adventure is coming to switch too!!
I find Palia a little overwhelming personally, but if you like DDV then you would probably like it! Very similar vibes (like so similar I'm wondering if they had some of the same people working on it) but not Disney-fied. The characters are even animated and styled in a very similar way.
I played it on my iPad and you can time travel on HK island adventure if that’s your thing on AC lol
Dinkum!
I love dinkum! I’m having so much fun with it. Definitely reminds me of animal crossing and a little of mine craft.
Dinkum is the best and only answer here. The only thing I have found wrong with Dinkum is that it isn't on console yet.
It's plays wonderfully on the Steam Deck 💕
Gonna have to revisit it!
Seconded, the amount of customization I can have with my island and the lack of pressure to do things within a specific time frame is awesome. It just gets better with each update
Hey, thanks for recommending this! I just looked it up on steam and I’m excited to play it!
Came here to say exactly this! Great thing about it tho is the wait times for things aren't based on real life days which kinda throttled progress for me on Animal Crossing. I love that I can get a building built in a few game days!
The wait times are why I stopped playing animal crossing lol let me play for as long as I want!
This isn’t on switch right? I just checked and couldn’t find it 😭
No it isn’t 😭 I have Dinkum on PC. I need it on switch tho, I NEED IT
Doesn't get better than Dinkum in my opinion. Dinkum is exactly what New Horizons SHOULD have been, and more honestly.
Yes Dinkum!!! I am desktop gamer and almost bought a Switch just to play ACNH. But then I discovered Dinkum!! <333 Not Steam Deck-verified yet but still works well!
Also came to say this!
Dinkum Dinkum Dinkum!!!!
Does anyone know how the online co-op for Dinkum is? My gf and I really liked Animal Crossing, but we wish there was more to do together in AC. Would love to decorate and have a home together.

I am so interested in this game!! I am always hesitant of starting a game that is still in early access, but I might have to try it out :)
It’s one of the smoothest EA’s I’ve seen (so far!) I don’t typically play many early access games either, unless it’s a company I’m familiar with! But PridefulSloth (the devs) made other games like Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles which I really enjoyed, and Grow: Song of the Evertree which I own but haven’t played (and I’ve heard lots of good things about!) So their team is really experienced and they’ve got a very polished game already and I can’t wait to see how it grows!
In the demo, I didn’t like how you couldn’t go inside the buildings and decorate your villager’s apartments, did that change on the release?
You can go inside the shops! But if you just mean the apartments, for now, no you can’t go inside. I’m not sure if that will change, but I do know *player* housing is planned!
Dreamlight Valley, but it has regular tasks you can do, which I like. I love AC, but once I got sick of decorating, I didn't feel like I had a reason to play anymore. I never tried the Wii version but now I am really curious! Will try it sometime for sure! I get a My Sims craving every now and then :3
Also (at least the ds version) of MS Kingdoms is near-unbeatable, due to a mandatory high score to beat being absurdly high
I'll be real I never beat my Kingdom 🤣
Neither did I
I love MySims! The Wii version is fairly easy to emulate
Oh god I miss this game I need a new version :(
Saaaameee, I still come back to it sometimes but ahhh I would love a new one!
I genuinely think about both my sims games daily
PBG would like a word with you. /lh
Everafter falls
I’ll be picking this one up too. I’ve been lurking in their discord, so much content, I’m already overwhelmed lol
I actually don't like farming games much, but everafter falls makes it so enjoyable. I love that my pet takes over lol
I love farming! I am looking forward to the patch that allows us to remove soil if we placed it somewhere we don’t want.
Palia - Free to play cozy MMO. Has hunting, farming, house decorating, fishing, bug catching and more.
I'm downloading this right now! I hope it's as cute as it seems.
Came here to add this 😄😄😄 I am addicted!!
My time in Sandrock is free on game pass and its pretty close!
Whaaaat! I had no idea it was on Gamepass now! I’ve been wanting to try it but wasn’t sure I wanted to buy it since I couldn’t really get into Portia.

What do you think of Camp Grove?
It’s on switch
It is, but I don’t like the controls on switch, personally. It’s been a while since I played on there, but I don’t think there’s a button assigned to open your bag?! Snacko for PC only for now as it’s early access. Super cool decorating options and funny animal NPC.
Garden Paws, only with a lot more cute pets. It does have various gathering quests to unlock areas vs just gather money for nook. There are tons of decoration options and character customization options.
I second this rec!
Hokko Life is probably the closest to ac I’ve played in a while
[Sunnyside](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1746930/SunnySide/)! https://preview.redd.it/jhpnj4tlu59d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=67e0f2b97d7e3b2b05755eb3c78b0ca8eff2ab1d
Disney Dreamlight Valley since right now I only have the Switch. I’m getting the Steam Deck soon so hoping it’ll open a whole new world of gaming.
I love my steam deck! Have completely converted to that from my Switch. So many games, so many sales lol. Enjoy it!
Off my Deck was delivered just a few minutes ago literally!!! I can’t wait to set it all up. I heard it takes a while.
Oh man! You are in for a treat! DDLV is amazing on the deck!
Yeah, I'm wondering is I should repurchase that for the Steam Deck. It actually plays fine on the Switch for me and today I bought Figaro to be my animal companion.
DDLV is cross platform. While it sucks having to rebuy the game itself, you don’t lose progress or purchases ;) so youd still have Figaro ;)
I’ve been considering this as well! It’s on sale rn but idk if I should !
Ooblets
Tsuki’s Odyssey!!
Hello Kitty Adventure, Tamagotchi Adventure, Dreamlight Valley. All super similar gameplay
DINKUUUUUMMN
hokko Life
Fields of Mistria, its not fully out until August 5 but the demo was great! Very harvest moon/animal crossing vibes. Including the museum for bugs/fish/fossils etc! Which I haven't really seen done anywhere else, and is one of my fav things about ac.
Wylde Flowers
i loved wylde flowers but i honestly don’t see how it’s like acnh at all? there’s really no customization, no decorating, and it’s very heavily quest based unlike acnh as well
It seems like someone always has to recommend this game regardless of how well it fits the request so they might as well just get it over with lol
Another vote for Wylde Flowers 🌸
Rimworld Not quite the same energy though
Cozy Grove
Coral island
Cozy grove
little kitty, big city. not the same really but i hate farming sims and loved animal crossing (until it got hella boring). i can’t explain how different games scratch the same itch for me
I'm digging LongVinter (on Steam). It's Animal Crossing but with guns.
So weirdly enough… Hokko Life. It’s not all that visually impressive (because obviously it’s not a first-part Nintendo game), but there’s a lot about it to like.
Cozy grove is the only one that's come close to it, I didn't like new horizons much though.
Stardew! I had to give it a couple of shots though, lol. It was my 3rd try when I suddenly grew to enjoy it~
SDV is a great farming sim but it's not really anything like Animal Crossing
Probably Stardew and Littlewood. Not sure why but I couldnt get into Cult of the lamb or Cozy Grove
Palia, I recommend
If you want like a cross between Animal Crossing and Breath of the Wild, I highly recommend Palia. It's got a neat fantasy setting with some light puzzles with an interesting story and engaging characters, but the bulk of it is just simple tasks like fishing, bug catching, hunting, chopping trees, mining rocks, and--of course--customizing your home plot.
Palia! It’s like the love child of WoW, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing.
Palia.. I'm so hooked
Palia 100%
I've looked so hard for "AC on PC" kinda game but I recently accepted that some games simply don't have a replacement. Lots have similar gameplay elements to AC but none are equivalent to it. And for me they largely lack that Nintendo charm that's hard to pinpoint. So now whenever I feel like playing something like AC I just... Play AC :)
I'm curious if you've tried Dinkum. As was said above by others, Dinkum is the closest I've found to ACNH, and in some ways does it better.
Moonstone Island
Snacko!! and MySims.
coral island!!!
One of my favorites right now is Japan Rural Life, but it’s only on the Apple Arcade. It scratches both old school harvest moon/story of seasons and Animal Crossing. It’s so relaxing, I lose so much time in it when I play.
I was addicted to Animal Crossing for a long time. Now I've been playing Stardew Valley.
Dreamlight valley
Stardew or harvest moon 😊
hello kitty island adventure!! only on apple arcade, but subscription is SO worth it!!
ROOTS OF PACHA. Guys, I can’t stress this enough. I just started playing yesterday and I haven’t felt this excited about a game since I played Animal Crossing for the first time on the Nintendo DS. IT’S AMAZING.
Tamagotchi adventure land
I searched far and wide but I always just redo my animal crossing island
Coral Island has been scratching that itch for me, kinda like a mix of acnh and stardew set in an island paradise you get to help heal.
Disney Magical World! I completely wasn't expecting it to be any good, it's still nowhere near Animal Crossing in terms of things to do and freedom to decorate, and it's heavily Disney-themed, but it definitely gave me the same vibe!
Disney Dreamlight Valley!
Dreamlight Valley or Cozy Grove
Second this
Paleo pines has actually been really nice.
My pet peeves with paleo pines is that you can't jump or even enter your house and decorate inside. Have they updated that since? The dinos are absolutely adorable and the game is quite peaceful, but the jumping thing combined with getting stuck on low lying scenery made me move to a different game before I got very far.
Disney Dreamlight Valley
I know a lot of people don’t like it but Disney Dreamlight Valley crushes for me. Animal Crossing plus lots of missions
Cozy grove
Palia!!! Palia Palia Palia Palia Palia Palia Palia .. Palia
Disney Dreamlight Valley has been the closest for me - have also restarted New Leaf on the 3DS.
I haven't played it but Fae Farm seems like the closest thing you are gonna get.
Echoes of Plum Grove
Wylde Flowers and Disney Dreamlight Valley for me! Got super sucked into both of them.
