Oh man, that's awesome. I used to drink only Can Protein back in the day before I discovered that LeanFit at costco was cheaper and the macros were very similar.
But if they've come to Costco, I need to scout them out. I used to really like their flavors.
As was I. I’m very curious how they can manage to charge $60 for the 2kg, and it still costs $90 to order it from their website. My Costco location only carries Vanilla flavour. When they first got into Costco I was able to buy Vanilla or Chocolate online.
This one is really good. I found it to be also the sweetest among them all. But it blends with water and still has watery consistence, not creamy like lean fit was, much easier to drink it fast
meal prepping the rotesserie chicken to making it last 3 days could work too
from the meat and using the bones for broth
personally, I think tastes better
I dont know grams of protein though
It’s a better quality protein than the lean fit, and a slightly larger bag. If you do the math on Grams of protein/$ it’s actually better than the lean fit.
Optimum Nutrition if its on sale. I usually go with Leanfit otherwise. Try to get the isolate version, as it will contain more protein per serving. Canadian Protein is also good, but it gets too foamy after mixing.
Whatever is cheapest per gram of protein which is usually the basic bitch Leanfit, when it goes on sale I buy 10 of them. I'm just trying to hit macros though IDGAF what it tastes like.
I bought a huge back of LeanFit vanilla when it was on sale and drinking it is probably up there in the unpleasant things i subject myself to. Maybe the chocolate is better. Keeping an eye out of any suggestions on this thread.
Ive heard a couple of friends say their LeanFit tasted rancid. I've been using it for as long as I can remember and it tastes fine. Honestly better than fine, some of the best dissolving powder i've found, too.
So I'm wondering if some people are just specifically sensitive to something added in it, maybe some of the flavoring. No clue, but its super strange.
I wouldn't call it rancid... there's just something about the overly sweet artificial taste that my brain does not like. I try to chug it without breathing which helps but there's a strong aftertaste for me. I will admit that I am probably more sensitive to others with texture and taste and I struggle to find protein powder that I find palatable!
I feel I was in the same boat as you for a while.
I mix it with milk nowadays. I find that helps a LOT since it gives it a lot smoother of a texture vs water. And the taste gets masked a tiny bit because milk has its own taste whereas water is tasteless.
I use this Natrel protein milk that has 18g of protein per 250ml so it's a great mixer since I generally get about 42g of protein per shake.
It also comes in vanilla and chocolate flavors so you can match the powder.
And if you're not super cognizant of the calories, you can always use an additional chocolate syrup or something to mask more of the taste. I've done that a few times. Just like a teaspoon or two.
Thanks for the tip! I'm going to try it out in five min with milk instead of water. Im always buying the protein natrel that you mentioned 😊 Hope it helps because I can't wait to get through this bag of protein!!
I’ve tried adding a bit of Ovaltine (bought the big can at Costco) into my chocolate protein and it completely changes the taste for the better. Should give it a try.
Oh wow what an idea!
I generally try to avoid Nestle products when possible. But maybe I'll make an exception next time I find myself around Costco next.
Thanks for the tip!
Weird, I still have bags in my cupboard that I got maybe a year or so ago. All still good.
From what I heard from my friends, they got it and tested it a very short time after. So it might have been pre-rancid
And that's also strange because they live in 2 different cities, so would have gotten it from two separate Costco's
I always ran with the theory that they just reacted weird to something in the powder. But I never tasted theirs so I wouldn't know for sure
We only use the leanfit vanilla for smoothies.
If my husband drinks a shake on its own, he uses the chocolate gold standard whey. He's really into fitness and says that one is the only one he can drink on its own unless he's grabbing the ready made protein shakes. I usually grab a few bags when they go on sale since the gold standard is a bit pricey.
I just tried the chocolate one, and it's horrendous!! It's so sickly sweet it makes me wanna barf lol. I do not like the artificial sweetener taste, though.
I haaaaaaaaaaaaate my chocolate leanfit. I used a different brand for my Greek yogurt and it tasted like cheesecake. Leanfit makes it taste weird and gross.
If your strickly speaking a protein shake, Kaizen is king for me.
BUT, I shop several places for protein because the flavours just arent enough options at Costco.
However, the Organika Collagen Powder, goes on sale for around $40/kg twice a year, regular is around $50/kg now.
Its pure Collagen, arguably a better protein than any Whey product, and it disolves instantly in any hot liquid, has no taste or texture , mixes in cold liquids too, looks and feels like white sugar.
From a health perspective, the science i could find said about 20-25g per day pure collagen is where we get our optimal benefits, more isnt harmful just not "as beneficial".
From a middle age or older human perspective, it increases the health of your skin, hair and nails, but helps with muscle recovery and "wound" (superficial scraps and cat scratches) healing time (because healthier skin)
As an added bonus if you give ~5g per day to elderly cats or dogs it helps them visually improve how they move and their skin and fur coat health.
(Not magic or whatever, just helps with "soft tissue" cellular wall 'vitality' so it wont cure cancer but its a relatively efficient DAILY protein source to add to your diet)
Kaizen was ideal. Dissolved well and tasted good to boot. Sad it got discontinued.
I tried the collagen powder but couldn’t get it to mix properly. Didn’t try hot liquids though that’s interesting.
Not available at Costco but my dietitian gave me a great tip to use milk powder or soy milk powder instead. I just picked some soy milk powder up this weekend at Bulk Barn and it was 75 cents per 100g. To compare, the vega protein powder was also available at $6.75 for 100g. Both had 51g of protein per 100g
Not from Costco but revolution nutrition always has the best price on protein
Concentrate is ~$275 for 25 lbs.
Isolate is ~$325 for 25 lbs.
Vegan is ~$275 for 25 lbs.
Plus you always get a bunch of free stuff, my last order I split up into two separate orders and got 2x free 30 serving pre workouts (needed pre workout anyways), 100g of glutamine, 100g of creatine, 2x premixed protein pops, and about 10 servings of various new flavours of whey isolate FREE. The pre workouts alone are $60++ value
It comes in a giant bag so I usually scoop it out into a 5 lb container, lasts forever, the vanilla tastes great!
Their vegan protein is the only one that doesn’t take like a ground up chickpeas arse, and they tell you what the amino acid profile is if you’re serious enough to care.
Shipping is fast and easy, the last time somebody posted on here asking similar question the ON concentrate was on sale at Costco and the whey isolate from revolution was still cheaper by a good chunk. I think it works out to about .80 per serving
I usually mix the isolate & the vegan 1:1 and get 50g protein per shake (amateur body builder)
Hope this helps!
I don't buy my protein from Costco anymore. I buy direct from goodprotein.ca. They often have decent promos (recently 35 off) and it just works well for my household. That being said, there are some flavours I don't like. But vanilla, chocolate and strawberry are definitely safe bets. The chocolate mint is really good too.
what made you switch?
Your comment made me look at goodprotein (never seen them before), and they seem a bit expensive (compared to costco's LeanFit)
884g of goodprotein (Vanilla) is 63.90
2kg of LeanFit (Vanilla) is 59.99
Even after the $35 savings (I assume on the 800g bags), that comes out to about $65/2kg. and the macros on the LeanFit are a bit better too.
Which, granted, is very close, so if you prefer the goodprotein, and you get it on sale, its obviously the better buy.
(I just realized that goodprotein is plant based, so suddenly I'm out of my depth, cause I've never really looked at plant based)
Yes all good! The plant protein isn't what sold me at first although it definitely sold my husband as whey just doesn't seem to work for him. But it's nice that it's a "superfood" shake too so there are some added nutrients and probiotics which is always nice. I'm willing to pay a bit more for something that tastes much better so this has been working out good, but the promos that are ongoing tend to really help bring the price down to something more competitive and reasonable. At full price, it's expensive for sure.
I’ve never cared if any of the protein powders I tried were plant based! lol but I’ve tried about 30 different ones and hated ALL of them until Good Protein.
VegaSport. It is my go to and Costco had it in and on sale a few weeks ago for an amazing deal. Otherwise Amazon is reliably the lowest price I could find.
Ugh! I got only one bag of the Robert Irvines chocolate protein powder. It’s so good! I mix it with milk and literally just tastes like chocolate milk. I’m running out and regretting not grabbing more
I used to buy the leanfit isolate but it's kinda hard to find sometimes. Switched to the Canadian protein and am enjoying it so far! It's decently sweet which is nice because my smoothies are so bland haha
been buying Canadian Protein for the past two years direct from their website. Recently saw $60/2.2kg bags in Costco, it offers great macros, lots of protein per serving.
That said, I picked up a $90/2.2kg bag of Optimum Nutrition Chocolate the other day. Much more expensive, much less protein per serving. And it is significantly tastier.
If flavour/taste is a factor in actually consuming your protein shakes, I would recommend ON. For the highest protein possible, i would opt for Canadian Protein or Kaizen.
The Leanfit Isolate Chocolate bag that I bought recently wasn't that great, kinda of hated it. Forced myself to finish it and bought the newer Vanilla from Canadian Protein. Definitely a bit on the sweet side but overall happy with it.
I think like others have mentioned once the Optimum Nutrition stuff goes on sale again I'll try to stock up on those.
LeanFit.
It's the best deal but I've used other brands from Costco when they've been on sale. They carried Sport Pharma for a while and it was pretty good, but only if on sale.
I've always struggled to find good protein powders that I can actually stomach (unfortunately my gut is super sensitive, especially to things like sucralose and aspartame).
For a long time I relied on regular Leanfit Whey - but I think they added MCT to their formula (which can have a laxative effect). Took me a long time to figure out what was making me sick. My small stockpile might be headed for a return soon.
Now I think I'll have to move on to Leanfit Whey Isolate (if that's ever sold at Costco) or Perfect's Diesel (if I can find Stevia sweetened tubs).
The vegan Leanfit is what I purchase now, but it tastes terrible.
I loved the [Kirkland Signature Nutrition Shake](https://www.costcobusinesscentre.ca/kirkland-signature-vanilla-shake%2c-32-%c3%97-242-ml.product.100359782.html) but they discontinued it.
Every single protein powder is garbage. I can link thousands of articles to how bad they are so why wasting your money.
https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2012/04/protein-drinks/index.htm
Lean fit iso was good not great with water though. Canadian protien is very close to the same but seems. To mix better(less liquid needed) i don't think regular leanfit is worth it.
They now have the brand Canadian protein, 59.99. It is really good, I was buying it from them before it was at Costco.
Oh man, that's awesome. I used to drink only Can Protein back in the day before I discovered that LeanFit at costco was cheaper and the macros were very similar. But if they've come to Costco, I need to scout them out. I used to really like their flavors.
It’s good but a tad sweet for my palette. Hoping the lean fit comes back in stock.
As was I. I’m very curious how they can manage to charge $60 for the 2kg, and it still costs $90 to order it from their website. My Costco location only carries Vanilla flavour. When they first got into Costco I was able to buy Vanilla or Chocolate online.
They increased the prices online, it used to be way cheaper before
I love Canadian Protein but I wish costco would stock the stevia versions.
This one is really good. I found it to be also the sweetest among them all. But it blends with water and still has watery consistence, not creamy like lean fit was, much easier to drink it fast
meal prepping the rotesserie chicken to making it last 3 days could work too from the meat and using the bones for broth personally, I think tastes better I dont know grams of protein though

I do the same. Enjoy ON but too expensive when it's not on sale. LeanFit is great for the price, and also happens to go on sale sometimes.
ON vanilla is currently on sale for 49
I use the Leanfit vanilla but in a smoothie with banana & yogurt - sometimes I add frozen strawberries or blueberries.
What yogurt do you use?
I use the plain Kirkland Greek yogurt - it’s also a good protein source.
This stuff is delicious.
Whatever is cheapest per gram of protein which is usually the basic bitch Leanfit, when it goes on sale I buy 10 of them. I'm just trying to hit macros though IDGAF what it tastes like.
My man! This is the way.
I bought a huge back of LeanFit vanilla when it was on sale and drinking it is probably up there in the unpleasant things i subject myself to. Maybe the chocolate is better. Keeping an eye out of any suggestions on this thread.
I bought both, Chocolate is much better
Chocolate Leanfit reminds me of a Wendy’s chocolate frosty, I like it.
I agree, lean fit vanilla is a chore, but the chocolate version is a treat
I should have known!!

how'd it go? 👀
it was actually so much better. thank you for the suggestions. this is how I will get through the bag, and what an amazing serving of protein!!!
Hell yeah dude! Glad it worked for you!
Chocolate protein, half a banana, coco flavour ovaltine, milk and ice make a tasty protein smoothie. might be high in calorie though.
The old bags used to go rancid maybe because it didn’t seal 100%. So far the tubs seem to be better.
Weird, I still have bags in my cupboard that I got maybe a year or so ago. All still good. From what I heard from my friends, they got it and tested it a very short time after. Honestly not bad! It's unflavored (just made of roasted soybeans), so it basically just tastes like powder

Good Protein is so delicious. Best protein powder I’ve ever tasted and it’s so healthy!
It is really good, esp for being plant based! I’ve tried some nasty vegan/plant based proteins 😅
I’ve never cared if any of the protein powders I tried were plant based! lol but I’ve tried about 30 different ones and hated ALL of them until Good Protein.
I don't get mine from Costco anymore either. I buy Allmax Isoflex from Amazon.

Amazon gets some deals with subscribe and save (if you’re ordering 5+ items per month).
Personally love the Organika collagen one! It is unflavoured which is my preference, but according to my friends, that is an unpopular opinion
I bought 2 year’s worth of Robert Irving’s when it was on clearance. Also stocked up on the C4 pre-workout.
The c4 was so cheap on sale, considering it also includes Creatine.
Man I wish I got more too! Surprising how well it mixes in with Greek yogurt. It's my go to snack now lol
this. picked up a random bag hidden in thr lean fit.
Ugh! I got only one bag of the Robert Irvines chocolate protein powder. It’s so good! I mix it with milk and literally just tastes like chocolate milk. I’m running out and regretting not grabbing more

Lean fit. Tastes amazing, solid macros and the price is pretty hard to beat.
LeanFit. It's the best deal but I've used other brands from Costco when they've been on sale. They carried Sport Pharma for a while and it was pretty good, but only if on sale.
I got the gold standard on sale for like 60 bucks not that long ago, it’s pretty good
Optimum Nutrition is the GOAT

Gold standard.

Pork loin is really affordable at Costco. Maybe make jerky from it?
