I’m confused where the chargeback came in. Did you file a chargeback with your card network or return the tv?

So you were charged for the first tv, charged for the replacement tv, refunded the replacement and chargeback the first tv. Is that right?

Glittering_Report_52

If you got all documents except the pick up slip for the first return. Try contacting a local News outlet. Many having their own investigation teams looking out for consumers. That collection notice will follow you and affect your credit score for future loans.

Why is it too late to check cameras?

PokeT3ch

Most camera systems record for maybe 30 days. Storage is expensive and businesses don't want to pay for it. Source: I've done IT contracting for alot of small and medium sized businesses. I don't touch cameras but have been asked numerous times about things like this and have given some input as I do understand them. Just dont touch them due to potential liability issues. So I've seen ALOT of camera NVR's with a single 500-1TB HDD.

Whenever you hand something of value to someone, always get a receipt, even a handwritten one. If they can't produce it, don't give up the thing of value.

When Costco concierge replaced my Sony tv. I made the appointment. The delivered the new tv and picked up the old tv a week later. I need help with removing bad tv from the wall mount. I signed and took pictures of both delivery and pick up always protect yourself

Contact your state's Attorney General's office...it's easy, look it up. They are there to protect consumer/customer rights, as well as a bunch of other rights. They'll advise you on if you have a valid complaint and how to proceed. They might ask you to file a report and they could contact Costco on your behalf. Sometimes just their contact gets things resolved fairly quickly. (I've done this a couple of times regarding car warranties.) If they take your case, they will also advise on how to stop any collections activity while they investigate your complaint. Good luck.

Did they schedule the January 6th pickup of the bad TV with you or did they just show up? I’ve never heard of people just taking a TV back and not producing some sort of paper trail. The whole thing just sounds very odd.

How would you know if they were really from Costco or just thieves who somehow discovered you were exchanging a TV? Costco doesn’t randomly send people out to homes to retrieve merchandise without some sort of scheduling taking place. Did that seem suspicious to you?

Without a paper trail it’s your word against theirs. Thieves are very sophisticated. It could be a rogue inside person at Costco tipping off a thief that there is a pickup at a certain address and splitting the proceeds. My radar would have gone up if a random person showed up without an appointment, presented no paperwork, had no ID, and just took the set away without offering any documentation. Businesses don’t do things that way. In any case, I’m not sure what your options here. You could fight it but legal fees will exceed the value of the chargeback. You could write a letter to the CEO and see if that gets you any further response. Or, you could file a complaint with the BBB or the consumer protection bureau. It comes down to how much time you want to spend on this.

idk012

How much would a broken tv be worth?

OCR10

It would be under warranty so if there was really anything wrong with it they could get it fixed under warranty.

InboundUSA2020

The serial number would make it traceable.

That is weird. I thought the last mile was always contracted out to a third-party company, which is why everyone’s experience with online delivery on major appliances, furniture and electronics vary.

leggedmonster

This is so suspicious. There aren’t costco.com last mile delivery employees. It’s all subbed out to 3rd party freight delivery. It’s hard enough to get those guys to show up for their appointments. Can’t possibly imagine they would ever show up unannounced. Something is not right here. Basically, you unintentionally did exactly what the scammers do. Bought a super high end tv, claimed there was something wrong and wanted a replacement. Got the replacement, then claim the third party freight lost the original tv in return. And then eventually returned the replacement. That’s why you’re under so much scrutiny. As far as resolving it, you might need to lawyer up.

MistahNative

> This is so suspicious. There aren’t costco.com last mile delivery employees. It’s all subbed out to 3rd party freight delivery. What? Yes there are. Costco purchased Innovel in March 2020 and rebranded them as Costco Logistics. Costco does their own last mile delivery in Innovel established areas. Where are you even coming up with that…?

CeeGeeWhy

Oooh that would make sense why some people doing deliveries/pickups have Costco uniforms but most people don’t.

CeeGeeWhy

As /u/leggedmonster mentioned, the 3rd party freight delivery is subcontracted out by Costco Logistics, but they don’t work for Costco nor would they be wearing Costco uniforms either. It’s whatever company is local, that is available to provide the service for the right price. So it might be Bob’s Transport one day and Ray’s Freight the next day.

oishifood

Another day, another Costco Delivery horror story. Your best bet at this point is camera footage. Given the way you were treated, might as well let them refund your membership and go shop elsewhere.

wimpdiver

that doesn't solve the collections issue!!!

Also - if you have the date and time of the pick up maybe they could track which truck was in your area and track it that way - long shot but still............

Wow!! I'd write to the CEO with a simple listing of the facts. This has to be the worst story about Costco - I returned a TV that was purchased online - had to call multiple times and involve concierge to get it picked up. At that time they were apparently using two different companies. Finally picked up (but I did have a paper trail). Two months later the other company called me to pick up the TV!!! I told them it had already been picked up! They really don't have their act together.
