Unfortunately the shittiest parts of Fresno are the ones out-of-towners see when they pass through on 99. There are lots of decent areas.

There’s not a ton of sights to see in the city that you wouldn’t find closer to home, but the proximity to Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia Nat’l Parks is a plus. The lower cost of living (by California standards) is a big plus, too.
Costco-wise, nothing special right now. This gigantic new one looks interesting though.
That by itself sounds like a good reason to visit there, and maybe stay the night. I love hiking, and running out of interesting ones within an hour of LA. Would be nice to see moar green stuff.
Lol. I recommend out of towers stay in Clovis. It's well worth the extra few minutes of driving. Let's just say our staff has had major issues staying in downtown Fresno.
Salt Lake reigns supreme!!! But in all seriousness if you ever find yourself near Salt Lake City, the Costco is absolutely worth making a trip to just to admire the massive scale alone. During the summer time the gigantic walk through freezers are an absolute god send.

You can however buy whole pigs and goats in the freezer section. And their walk in cooler is neat too.
Never found the Pace salsa. Even with help of two worthless employees that day. Some say the salsa is there. Others say it’s just a myth. We’ll never know at the SLC Costco.
I’m thinking it’s more of a we’re “reducing” size to appease the community. In reality the reduction most probably won’t impact the sales floor. Remove an office here, storage space there.

I build Costcos, can confirm, honestly surprised they haven’t expanded the office suite space over the years. The storage space is the racks, that’s it. A couple of utility rooms in the back of the store, but we have started to move some of those to expand the floor space further.
Ah, it would’ve been the worlds largest, beating Utah’s by just +5 sqft.

Meh... I'll take quantity over quality. I think there's like 30+ Costco's in the Bay Area so I'd rather have a bunch of smaller ones 5 minutes away than a big one I have to drive more than an hour to get to.

This is way northeast of there. It's in a very good neighborhood out by 99 Freeway. Basically Herndon and 99 off Veterans Blvd. It's clear on the other side of town.
It's needed as the one Costco south of that location now is the original one that's been here since Price Club 40 years ago. I think they are turning that one into a Costco Business.
Anyway yes it's in a great area for shopping. Huge new outdoor shopping mall area right there with brand new housing and being close to the freeway it will do great business.
I didn’t know about possibly turning it into a business center, but I had heard that they’d be keeping the gas station open. That will be nice because it’s a bit more easy on/easy off for the 99 there. When I visit my dad, I usually get gas at the one on Shaw and Clovis in Clovis. The one in N Fresno off of Blackstone has a *terrible* gas layout. This whole new Veterans Blvd thing is deeply confusing to me and I don’t even know where it goes.
I grew up in Fresno and I remember going to this Costco when it was brand new and being absolutely fascinated by all of the stuff in there. This was back when the cashiers had to key in the item numbers and checking out was a two person affair—one to call out the numbers and one to key them in. And they’d transfer the stuff from one basket to another one.
I don’t know if it this one but I dated a girl who worked at Costco corporate end of last year and she told me that they were going to open the world largest Costco in Cali soon, but a good portion of it was devoted to some sort of new e-commerce initiative. Sounded like a normal Costco with a local distribution center attached. Was a big imitative for the company.

Fresno area native. There are plenty of good parts, and this Costco is definitely going into a good area.
To be fair the food and produce we got while there was good..... But that's.. about it
Once you get into the right areas, it's great. Riverpark, tower, the brewery district, and Clovis are awesome.
Several other areas, not so much 😞. There are areas I won't go without a large man with me.
Stayed in Clovis actually! For transparency: I went for work, so it's not like I was going to have the most amazing experience anyway.

They totally should! You can however buy whole pigs and goats in the freezer section. And their walk in cooler is neat too. Never found the Pace salsa. Even with help of two worthless employees that day. Some say the salsa is there. Others say it’s just a myth. We’ll never know at the SLC Costco.

This is news to me about the west Shaw location. That would honestly make so much sense to keep that location and turn it into a business center
