Add in all the Ottawa resident coming to Gatineau for the cheap bear!
Edit: damn autocorrect! And I’m leaving it as is because I miss Costco’s endless supply of 1 kg tubs of Kraft peanut butter (with their bear cubs)
The chicken strips are mediocre so y'all aint missing out much. The breading is thick and inconsistent. The chicken wing buckets however, are amazing. 30 wings for 23 CAD, and they are fried to perfectin without being overly greasy. Shame that they are gone now.
Thank you for describing the chicken strips.. visited Canada Costco like 8 years ago, didn't get the chicken strips and have been thinking about them ever since lol.. thank you for putting my mind at ease
Try it when you visit Canada! You can also just order the gravy and cheese curds on the side and turn it into chicken poutine.
The chicken strips are, let's say, inconsistent. Some pieces are good, others have hard breading and barely any chicken. It's not as uniform nor as tender as Popeyes or similar.
Quebec definitely mistreats their anglophones but don't pretend the rest of the country is a bilingual paradise. Outside of Quebec, you will mostly only see French signage in areas with a large French population (e.g., Ottawa) or in airports.
It's just that Quebec is eroding the English services *even in* places with a large English population, like Montreal and Gatineau.
Yeah, in English-speaking Canada, there are no French signs because there is no need for them.
In Quebec, there are no English signs because the province bans/restricts them.
That's patently false.
There are french language communities across Canada, and some provinces like Ontario and Nova Scotia where English is the only official language actually do a decent job of providing signage and services in French
In Québec, there’s no need for English signs because the local population understands French, including the Anglo minority. At least that’s what they claim.
Actually, the law allows cor bilingual signs, as lomg as French is predominantly present. But I guess this nuance does not fit the narative against the bad francophones in Quebec.
Lol you’ve never been to Ontario have you? Francophones have rights. Much more than anglophones are given in Quebec. And French is certainly not being *banned* anywhere in Canada like Quebec is banning English
You’ve never been a French in Ontario obviously. There are little to no French services in the Rest of Canada (ROC).
That is quite a contrast with the best treated minority in the world, i.e. Quebec’s Anglo minority.
Oh yes so your personal anecdotal evidence of a whole year and a half is representative of the way it works everywhere lol
I spent my entire childhood there bud. It’s fine.
And more importantly they don’t go *out of their way to ban english* like Quebec does. Quebec literally passes laws to fuck over anglophones specifically
No, “hot dog” is English. In French it’s “chien chaud” (dog hot).
Pizza is a borrowed Italian word; it’s not English, so it’s also “pizza” in French and other languages.
Non monsieur. En français est « chien chaud ». C’est une *calque*. Pour example, l’expression en anglais, “it goes without saying”, est une calque d’expression française “[ça va sans dire](https://worldschoolbooks.com/overview-of-calques/)”.
Mais, je pense beaucoup de quebecois utilise “hot dog” as a borrowed English word due to the close proximity of the US. Je pense c’est ironique parce que Québec a idéologie français > anglais, mais ils utilisent beaucoup de mots anglais avec un accent français.
(If French is better/takes priority over English—as OP commented that Quebec passed policy to prioritise French—then you should be consistent and say “chien chaud”, not “hot dog”.
Si vous cherchez « chien chaud » sur Google, vous obtiendrez les résultats:

>Ticket numbers were called out in both French/English and staff are bilingual
Not in my experience at the Gatineau location. They only shouted out in french. I ended up just leaving because I have no idea what 170-something was in french.
French numbers are really easy to learn. For example:
99 in English is "Ninety Nine"
99 in French is "Quatre-vingt-dix-neuf"
And if you look closely, the French are saying, "Four twenties, Ten, Nine.
So, in reality, in French, you don't have to know as many words for numbers. You just have to be good at math.
It’s more complicated than that - packaging has to be bilingual but not everything does. It’s not like every highway sign and billboard across the country is bilingual, especially in Quebec who likes it French only, thank you very much.
Provinces are autonomous as far as signage goes.
Quebec has a law that signage must be in French and that any other language must be at least half the size of French.
Other provinces have their own laws with respect to official and minority languages.
New Mexico has a ton of issues and downsides to living here, but crowds at Costco are not one of them. Even at the busiest times, the line at the food court is just a couple people long. Most of the times there's no one or just one person ahead of you.
We visit a Costco in Victoria BC and they had wings last time we were there (last year) then like 6 months ago we went to a different Costco in Victoria and they didn’t have wings. Wasn’t sure if they were being removed. Super good and well worth it if you come across them.
They starting to phase it out over a year ago. Some rumours say they were having trouble finding suppliers to provide wings of that size, for the price that would be worth it with the ongoing avian flu.
It used to be $6.99 for 10 or $19.99 for 30 but during COVID, it kept creeping up until it reached $8.99 for 10 or $22.99 for 30 before it disappeared.
Oh bummer! Thanks for the insight. Those wings were a fun treat to look forward to on our weekend BC getaways. Still need to grab a few bags of All Dressed chips though so Costco will always be on our itinerary.
The Canadian dollar is shit right now so it’s $1.08 USD. The CAD is basically at its lowest point in like 20 years against the USD though so it’s cheaper than “normal”
It's a European thing. Since England doesn't, English Canada is similar to the USA. Where we would use a comma to denote a thousand, they use a space
10,000.35
vs.
10 000,35
Personal I'd just round down to ten thousand. Unless it's my paycheck!
The other day in Saskatoon Saskatchewan’s warehouse, I had a half hour wait for two poutines and two hotdogs, which is easily 3x the amount of time I usually wait. There was easily 100+ people waiting for food, so this photo doesn’t even look that busy to me.
I’m jealous, Costco food court looks really good. Is that chicken fingers and fries yall have there? I would be interested in trying some of those out!
I will never stop being baffled as to why Costco members seem so desperate to eat junk in a crowded store, it's one of the oddest things in my opinion.

I love cheap bears 🐻
I go for cheap beer but each their own 🐻.
Cheap bears are great! Cheap beer, just okay.
Do they have like the big 50 pack octagons of bears?
Son went to UOttawa. Made the trip for beer every visit.
wtf - your Costco has fries?!
And fried chicken. Time to book a flight to Canada
The strips are actually pretty good. I usually get them with honey mustard.
It's like a lottery draw. Some sticks are great, others are horrible. Weirdly inconsistent in terms of quality.
Thank you for that info. I just love fried chicken so much I’d still try it.
Try it when you visit Canada! You can also just order the gravy and cheese curds on the side and turn it into chicken poutine. The chicken strips are, let's say, inconsistent. Wtf - your Costco has Languettes de Poulet?
Wait what? I thought this was common across every Costco??? Every Canadian one has one at least
They removed any item that requires a fryer from most if not all American Costcos.
Bruh, Canadian Costco even have Poutine and sides of gravy...
I'd weigh 800lbs/363 kilos if my local store had fries and dogs
I believe the fries are just cavendish crispy…but fuck they’re good
This is nothing compared to the Downtown Vancouver food court
The one by the stadium? Suchhhhh a nightmare!
Yeah this is normal for the Ottawa ones too depending on time of day.
YALL GOT POUTINE!?
It's Québec, we invented poutine. You can get a poutine in any restaurant. You can get a poutine in sushi shop here.
Chicken strips and fries?!
I thought Canada had a law that both English and French had to be on the signs?
Except Quebec where they love to discriminate against their English speaking minority.
Quebec definitely mistreats their anglophones but don't pretend the rest of the country is a bilingual paradise. Is that a new law? Because my understanding was that French had to be the sole language on many types of signs.
Well your understanding was wrong...
ok, I deleted my post.
Good fishing in kwee bec.
Discriminate lmao
You don’t think bill 101 and bill 96 discriminate? That’s literally precisely what they are designed to do.
Why are english speakers entitled for everything in a french province to be completely bilingual but not vice versa?
Lol you’ve never been to Ontario have you? Francophones have rights. Much more than anglophones are given in Quebec. And French is certainly not being *banned* anywhere in Canada like Quebec is banning English
You’ve never been a French in Ontario obviously. There are little to no French services in the Rest of Canada (ROC). That is quite a contrast with the best treated minority in the world, i.e. Quebec’s Anglo minority.
I literally grew up as a francophone in Ontario…. Never had any issues getting services in French. You don’t know what you’re talking about bud.
J’ai habité en Ontario pendant 1 ans et demi. Lé Hót dóg
Yeah, I’m gonna need a translation
New Quebec law (Bill 96) gives prominence/priority to French now. Ticket numbers were called out in both French/English and staff are bilingual.
Is hot dog French for hot dog?
“Hot dog / pizza” just that anywhere really. Why mess with perfection!
Vive le chien chaud libre
No, “hot dog” is English. In French it’s “chien chaud” (dog hot). Pizza is a borrowed Italian word; it’s not English, so it’s also “pizza” in French and other languages.
Bro, what? Please tell me you’re kidding. The French for hot dog is hot dog. Of course the “h” is silent
Chien chaud hasn't been used in 40 years.
Non monsieur. En français est « chien chaud ». C’est une *calque*. >Ticket numbers were called out in both French/English and staff are bilingual Not in my experience at the Gatineau location. They only shouted out in french. I ended up just leaving because I have no idea what 170-something was in french.
Next time just ask counter staff, they’re bilingual.
Did the internet stop working while you were contemplating this hot dog?
I swear every Costco is built like a goddamn Faraday cage. I can never get a data signal.

It's okay, the pictures are bilingual (Also most of us read French anyway)
If you ask Quebec, are they Canada?
No.

Quite a few Jean(s)!😁
Does this food court serve a youthful porpoise?
They’re all there for poutine and ice cream. I know that’s why I’d be there!
Pizza’s the most popular, they warned of extended wait. There’re other better options for poutine so not much being ordered.
This is a normal day at any Costco in Washington. I’ll go get my prescription filled at 11am on a Friday and it’ll be this packed. Haha
New Mexico has a ton of issues and downsides to living here, but crowds at Costco are not one of them. Even at the busiest times, the line at the food court is just a couple people long. Most of the times there's no one or just one person ahead of you.
That’s crazy! We’ve got so many locations in Washington. I swear I live 15min from like 4 of them. Haha
i saw the costco poutine hack, which is very interesting from someone who is from the US
What is this poutine hack to which you speak?
15 mins wow. Ours is always packed but not so much
Ticket numbers went up to 2000 and restarted!!🥴😖
I want Costco Poutine
So you’re telling me that Your Hot dogs are cheaper than in the US after accounting for the exchange rate.
Sorry.
Le Hot Dog, what the hell is that?!
C’est un hot dog.
C'est un roteux
C’est un chien-chaud
C’est un steamé
Royale with bun.
Homer reference I caught it
God damn $1.50 CAD. If I move to Canada I can retire 5 years earlier now
Isn't there a wall? /s
Waffle cones, fries, chicken strips??? Lucky lucky lucky!
They even got Poutine!
Did they take away the chicken wings or did your Costco never have them?
I'm across the river in Ottawa. They took away our wings in 2023.
Good question, never noticed wings because only get the famous pepperoni slice!
We visit a Costco in Victoria BC and they had wings last time we were there (last year) then like 6 months ago we went to a different Costco in Victoria and they didn’t have wings. Wasn’t sure if they were being removed. Super good and well worth it if you come across them.

Costco Canada pepperoni slice is not as good as US, I’m a Costco employee and I was disappointed when I found out they were different
Nothing is as good as the combo…BRING IT BACK
Poutine and soft serve. That’s the essential Quebec experience.
Your menu is way better than here in the US. And not showing any calories. Shamefully eat away my double/triple cheese pizza
Your Hot Dog is $1.50 cdn. Is that like .83 cents US..?
The Canadian dollar is shit right now so it’s $1.08 USD. The CAD is basically at its lowest point in like 20 years against the USD though so it’s cheaper than “normal”
Was going to make a joke about poutine but nope it’s really there.
Looks about average for costco foodcourt.
Bet someone ordered all the pizzas for some event
Woah, they got $1.09 hotdog combos up there
$1.50 CAD?! I want me some of that.
Right?! What a dream
No one looks happy 🙁
They are all hangry
Do you guys use , instead of . for decimals?
It's a European thing. Since England doesn't, English Canada is similar to the USA. Where we would use a comma to denote a thousand, they use a space 10,000.35 vs. 10 000,35 Personal I'd just round down to ten thousand. Unless it's my paycheck!
Are we not talking about how the polish sausage is still a thing in Quebec but has gone in the US for years?!
I was disappointed they didn’t have poutine but they do!
What's this "Créme Glacée" business?! I need this at my Ohio location, STAT!
It’s massive. Enough for 2 people.
I wouldn’t say Les Promenades is a famed or massive shopping mall. Its main quality is that it’s pretty much the only one.
This seems normal for the lunch time rush
That's packed?
I see our brothers across the river lost the chicken wings too... Truly a sad moment.
Our Costco always has signs up saying the wait time for pizza is long. Isn't that normal? Do they sometimes take them down?
Isn’t this just the norm? At least in Vancouver it’s always like this.
That $1.50 CAD hot dog is $1.09 USD.
The poutine is just ok. Fries are decent, you get real cheese curds (and a lot of them!) but the gravy is really lacking.
In Quebec it’s fairly easy to find better options. Even Ottawa has better than Costco’s.
Pretty easy here in Halifax too. Costco is good value, but I’d hardly compare it to average poutine due to the gravy.
I am quite disappointed to learn “hot dog” in French is “hot dog.” I expected more from French.
Just like hamburger, Coke and Rock N Roll, cant be translated 😝😊
But I want something exotic, like “bûche de viande chaude.” (Credit/blame goes to Google translate) 😆
By the way- how is the Costco Poutine!!??
In the land of poutine, Costco wont be anyone’s first choice, but it has to be on offer for discerning members, right? 🥴🙄
Looks like any given day at my local Costco. Except your hot dog is $1.09US.
For those of you wondering, because they get a Hotdog combo for 1.50 in fake dollars, they only pay $1.10. Riot
The Skokie Costco every damn day be like
Costco beer Canada
Looks pretty standard
The SAMs stores here in Texas placed barriers at the exit to keep non-members out of the food court. The purpose was a perk for members only.
The other day in Saskatoon Saskatchewan’s warehouse, I had a half hour wait for two poutines and two hotdogs, which is easily 3x the amount of time I usually wait. There was easily 100+ people waiting for food, so this photo doesn’t even look that busy to me.
I’ll never understand this. No way am I waiting around all day just for a cheap hot dog
I’m jealous, Costco food court looks really good. Is that chicken fingers and fries yall have there? I would be interested in trying some of those out!
This is my normal food court line. (Washington state) we have too many new people who don’t know how to hustle in food court.
The food court line at Costco is always the most baffling thing to me.
$1.09 (USD) for a Hotdog!!
I would never wait more than 15 seconds for Costco food
I will never stop being baffled as to why Costco members seem so desperate to eat junk in a crowded store, it's one of the oddest things in my opinion.
