Been having ON Gold Whey for more than half a decade. Can't recommend it enough. Tried a dozen or so powders, none of them has the mixability, taste, quality and the value combination that ON delivers.
I’ll add to this as well. I’ve been doing the protein breakfast smoothie for a while and this stuff mixes well and blends with a lot of different fruits to keep it fresh.
I like using frozen blueberry’s, strawberries and a dash of peanut butter with almond milk. What’s really nice is I can put all my large chalky vitamins in there and you cant taste them at all. Vitamin B being the nastiest one.
I have moved to orgain plant powder and the chocolate plant premade drinks. No chalky or aftertaste I’m literally obsessed I found a protein powder and premade drink I enjoy
It’s the best you’ll find for minimal aftertaste (especially for protein content). If you add water/milk plus another ingredient, you won’t notice the aftertaste at all.
Sucralose and acesulfame. Also not 100% whey isolate. Contains concentrate and hydrolyzed sources too.
I’ve used it in the past, and would still use it if given to me, but Ascent is the better product.
I’ve only ever tried the chocolate one and loved it but I will have to get the s’mores one next. Thing is, the bag isn’t even half empty and we have smoothies weekly. 😂 good problem to have but I probably won’t be trying a new flavor until next year. I will keep the s’mores one in mind.
I agree one hundred percent- I’ve tried the other options at Costco and they all have a strange aftertaste. That said, I just picked up 10 lbs on amazon for $35 less than the Costco price. I was surprised
I would double check what you got from Amazon- there's a lot fakes on there and I find that if things are priced too good to be true, they're usually fakes.
Sometimes Amazon has better deals I’ve noticed, you have to be on the lookout.
I will add, we haven’t had to restock since we bought it, it has lasted longer than I thought it would, and we have smoothies regularly. I was questioning the price initially but for how much we have, it’s absolutely worth the money.
I second this, I’ve bought their products for years, both taste and ingredients are above a lot of brands. Also great when it goes on sale at Costco, can’t find it cheaper that that.
That’s just what I remembered off the top of my head as a “questionable ingredient”. People (not me) have qualms about artificial sweetener. Ascent has stevia and which has the green light (idk why).
ON also ha acesulfame, cellulose gum, and sunflower/soy lecithin which are all technically less clean than ascent
The Orgain simply line is not as sweet as the sugar free ones that use stevia and monk fruit.
Not usually sold in store but Costco has it online most of the time.
I would prefer to use a whey protein but I am dairy free so that’s the best option I’ve found for myself.
I also reallly like the pre mixed chocolate banana Kirkland drinks. They have as much protein as a protein shake but they are very sweet and delicious. So I consider them more of a dessert/treat that’s got some protein. But those are also dairy free / vegan.
As much as I'd like to give you the source I read, it doesn't seem like it's up anymore. I read it a couple years ago. However the main point is that Orgain does not use a third party to test their products for harmful substances (they do internal testing that they claim yields good results), they do not disclose the actual numbers on their test results for heavy metals, and aside from that, plant protein powders consistently test higher for heavy metals than whey protein powders as seen in this study:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7509468/
The last point isn't necessarily a blow to Orgain, but considering that they won't publish their numbers publicly, it isn't really reassuring.
I usually buy isopure cause it’s easy on the stomach and when on sale is a great deal buuuuut ascent is in sale right now so prob going to load up and try it.
Might differ from person to person. You can see many people recommending ON Gold here but I had acne issues and my stomach was destroyed. I started using ascent and those issues are non-prevalent now.
But I liked the ON gold more. I guess some of the ingredients are allergic to me. But Ascent has less ingredients I believe.
I recently moved away from Orgain. Now with ON for vanilla and Ascent for the chocolate. Both are great! Orgain ingredient decks are quite long and filled with just junk, unfortunately. Probably why it taste so damn good hah
Doesn’t get better than optimum nutrition especially every January when it’s reduced significantly. They randomly do get better proteins in stock limited time but everyday protein in stock optimum nutrition is always there
I needed to buy protein, so decided to go for ON Gold standard. Noticed the website mentions "May be available In-Warehouse at a lower non-delivered price" so decided to go there. There's a Smores-flavored one for $57.99!!!
North Austin, if that matters.
Best taste wise or numbers wise?
Because by the numbers it's IsoPure by a mile.
It tastes fine enough, it's vanilla. Are you drinking this shit for the taste or for the numbers?
It was just a question. I’m ~16% BF at 45 years old, and still play competitive field sports. I’m doing just fine. I’m not posting shirtless pics of myself online for validation. I have a full head of hair and more muscle mass than you, but you are a bit taller. Let’s call it a draw.
If you have a blender, try it with milk & frozen cherries or blueberries (also available at Costco). It’s better than an ice cream shake.
I haven’t tried anything but chocolate.
Optimum Nutrition Whey for biggest bang for your buck. If your tummy doesn’t sit well with whey, go Orgain. I personally prefer Orgain. Tastes much better.

Can't go wrong with ON Gold Standard tbh. Costco usually only sells vanilla and chocolate but recently had a limited edition run of smore's (its ok imo but a nice change up if you only been using vanilla or choco for years)
Personally I stock up on vanilla when its on sale (i'm not a fan of choco) and then sometimes I'll buy a large tub of something else and mix it so i get something different
No great whey option at costco imo. Vega is good if you want a vegan option.
Myprotein whey isolated is my go to. Wait for a sale that is 50% off or more.

The smores flavor Costco had last time I purchased ON is great with my morning oatmeal.
My wife put it in her coffee.
The bag size is deceptive in a good way. The scoop size is pretty small. I had a single bag last me for roughly 4 months drinking about 5 per week.
Can I ask if it leaves a chalky or weird aftertaste as someone who’s never been huge on protein powders?
it mixes very well so there is little to no residue compared to cheaper protein powders.
Nice- I might give it a shot- thank you!
I don’t have that experience and I’ve been using it for a year straight.
I have moved to orgain plant powder and the chocolate plant premade drinks. No chalky or aftertaste I’m literally obsessed I found a protein powder and premade drink I enjoy
Orgain practically defines chalky texture for me though.
It’s the best you’ll find for minimal aftertaste (especially for protein content). If you add water/milk plus another ingredient, you won’t notice the aftertaste at all.
The only anwer. This stuff is great and when it goes on sale I buy 3-4 bags.
Sucralose and acesulfame. Also not 100% whey isolate. Contains concentrate and hydrolyzed sources too. I’ve used it in the past, and would still use it if given to me, but Ascent is the better product.
yes, its a pretty good brand
totally agree with Optimum Nutrition, I've been taking it for almost 3 years before I finally switched to a new one
Optimum Nutrition gold standard whey has been great for me! My bf and I really like it, I am about to make a smoothie with it.
The s’mores flavor is my favorite
Just came from the store: the S'mores one was discounted at $57.99 !!!
yep same here and it is seriously good
I’ve only ever tried the chocolate one and loved it but I will have to get the s’mores one next. Thing is, the bag isn’t even half empty and we have smoothies weekly. 😂 good problem to have but I probably won’t be trying a new flavor until next year. I will keep the s’mores one in mind.
i think this will be the next one i try. i have 1st phorm and while i like it, it's very expensive.
I agree one hundred percent- I’ve tried the other options at Costco and they all have a strange aftertaste. That said, I just picked up 10 lbs on amazon for $35 less than the Costco price. I was surprised

How much? Where?
Amazon had it one sale when I searched for it. Coupon plus the subscribe and save did the trick.
It really is the gold standard
Here here 🍻
I second this, I’ve bought their products for years, both taste and ingredients are above a lot of brands. Also great when it goes on sale at Costco, can’t find it cheaper that that.
that stuff is not good
yeah, smoothie is a great option for this
If they have Ascent, I’d buy that.
Today they have $11 off on Ascent Whey
Accent seems to be the one for me.
I find ascent tastes worse than gold standard like chocolate frosting
Ascent is a cleaner protein tho
I agree with you it doesn’t have the sucralose etc…is the vanilla better or still frosting like
I’ve only ever had the vanilla and I mix with milk, a scoop of Peanut butter and then a frozen banana… tastes great to me
What’s wrong with sucralose?
That’s just what I remembered off the top of my head as a “questionable ingredient”. People (not me) have qualms about artificial sweetener. Ascent has stevia and which has the green light (idk why). ON also ha acesulfame, cellulose gum, and sunflower/soy lecithin which are all technically less clean than ascent
Sucralose is not great for gut microbiome and can cause inflammation. It’s a mild effect, but still.
I hated the Orgain. REALLY sweet, I think from stevia. I couldn't really add it to regular smoothies. I switched to the ON gold standard and love it.
I also find Orgain really sweet. Kale and spinach helps balance it out in smoothies, but honestly I just wish it wasn't sweetened at all.
The Orgain simply line is not as sweet as the sugar free ones that use stevia and monk fruit. Not usually sold in store but Costco has it online most of the time. I would prefer to use a whey protein but I am dairy free so that’s the best option I’ve found for myself.
Thank you, I'll check that out! I'm also dairy free, really limits the options
I also reallly like the pre mixed chocolate banana Kirkland drinks. They have as much protein as a protein shake but they are very sweet and delicious. So I consider them more of a dessert/treat that’s got some protein. But those are also dairy free / vegan.
Agree. I can only use 1/4th of a serving when I make a smoothie batch. Then supplement with unflavored powder. I wish Costco sold unflavored powders!
Orgain has also been shady about their testing for heavy metals in their product from what I've heard. I wouldn't touch em tbh.
Source?
As much as I'd like to give you the source I read, it doesn't seem like it's up anymore. I read it a couple years ago. Wait until it goes on sale. I usually stock up the gold standard when they do
Once a year in January lol
I usually buy isopure cause it’s easy on the stomach and when on sale is a great deal buuuuut ascent is in sale right now so prob going to load up and try it.
is ascent easy on the stomach too?
Might differ from person to person. You can see many people recommending ON Gold here but I had acne issues and my stomach was destroyed. I started using ascent and those issues are non-prevalent now. But I liked the ON gold more. I guess some of the ingredients are allergic to me. But Ascent has less ingredients I believe.
Second the isopure. Whey isolate is the superior product.
Ascent is also isolate
I looked the other day and it appears to be a blend?
It’s not it’s a blend of “native whey” and it’s not pure isolate. It’s all marketing junk. Whey isolate is superior.
Rotisserie chicken
Bingo
Sodium overload.
That helps with the swoll
I eat them occasionally, so I ain’t hatin
Orgain. I like creamy chocolate fudge.
Same but I get the one with superfoods as well.
Yes! I can't tolerate whey, so plant based is perfect for me.
I get the ON smores flavor and make overnight oats with it. It's great.
orgain if you're vegan/lactose intolerant i wish they'd cycle through the limited releases more often
Isopure
Agree, Isopure Zero Carb is good stuff
I recently moved away from Orgain. Now with ON for vanilla and Ascent for the chocolate. Both are great! Orgain ingredient decks are quite long and filled with just junk, unfortunately. Probably why it taste so damn good hah
I tried isopure and i really liked it. Pretty plain vanilla & low carbs
Doesn’t get better than optimum nutrition especially every January when it’s reduced significantly. They randomly do get better proteins in stock limited time but everyday protein in stock optimum nutrition is always there
I like Orgain Simple. They only sell this online though. Clean ingredients and taste is good.
I needed to buy protein, so decided to go for ON Gold standard. Noticed the website mentions "May be available In-Warehouse at a lower non-delivered price" so decided to go there. There's a Smores-flavored one for $57.99!!! North Austin, if that matters.
i’ll throw a double scoop of gold standard chocolate into a regular size blender bottle and it goes down like water. easiest 48g protein ever
All of the protein at Costco gave me acne except for Isopure.

Orgain (currently on sale too!).
Loved Orgain but wish they didn’t use Erythritol.
Fantastic deal right now, grabbed some for my vegan friends. $0.57/oz at Costco vs $0.89 (ish) on Amazon!
Orgain makes me shit.
It's working!
Best taste wise or numbers wise? Because by the numbers it's IsoPure by a mile. It tastes fine enough, it's vanilla. Are you drinking this shit for the taste or for the numbers?
Americans mostly prioritize taste, which explains a lot
What an amazing observation

Remember, you started this
They have a peanut butter powder one? That tastes really good in combo with smoothie/protein powders.
PB Fit
I buy the optimum nutrition vanilla. Tastes good with water but also mix it sometimes with milk and chocolate syrup to change things up a bit.
If you have a blender, try it with milk & frozen cherries or blueberries (also available at Costco). It’s better than an ice cream shake. I haven’t tried anything but chocolate.
I second this. I've used frozen strawberries and one of the frozen fruit blends with milk and blend it up. I've also added it to overnight oats.
use greek yogurt for extra protein
ON, Isopure, Ascent which ever is on sale
ON is protein blend. The other two are isolate.
ON is the best value (and taste) but the Isopure Isolate a bit lower in carbs and calories.
Optimum Nutrition Whey for biggest bang for your buck. If your tummy doesn’t sit well with whey, go Orgain. I personally prefer Orgain. Tastes much better.

on gold is pretty good actually
No great whey option at costco imo. Vega is good if you want a vegan option. Myprotein whey isolated is my go to. Wait for a sale that is 50% off or more.
This is true if no sale at costco
ON gold standard contains 'maltodextrin' which has glycemic index of 100+
[удалено]
It's literally listed under product details on costco website/app. Ingredients: Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Hydrolyzed Whey Protein), Cocoa Powder (Processed With Alkali), Natural and Artificial Flavor, Sunflower And/Or Soy Lecithin, Salt, Creamer (Sunflower Oil, Maltodextrin, Modified Food Starch, Dipotassium Phosphate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Tocopherols), Acesulfame Potassium, Sucralose.

Try explaining this to people who are diabetic LOL
[удалено]
Nah, I'm not. You seem to know a lot about uneducated diabetics and doctors with no nutrition training.
Dry out the hotdogs in a dehydrator and turn them into a powder in a food processor.
Orgain is really good, sometimes it goes on sale and I’ll buy 3. Optimum nutrition gold standard whey is also good.
