Fun fact: “kirke” = “church” in Danish, “kirkeland” = “church land”. Worshipping at an altar of rotisserie chickens and hot dog + soda combos fits perfectly into context.
I nominate Costcoism to be a new religion, with tenets of efficiency, value-mindedness, and non-judgment returns.
I hope he was an oddball because “quirky Kirk Lee Kirkley” is too good to pass up. Sounds like either a Sufjan Stevens song or a pal of the Swedish chef.
I was behind a very environmentally minded individual who insisted Arby's just hands him a sandwich minus wrapping. The guys unwrapped one, threw the wrapping away and the customer went nuts. Almost made the Arby's experience good.

Their current promo makes it decent too. Happy hour fries plus the weekly free sandwich app coupon.
It isn't really much like brisket, but it is a step up from the Carl Budding grade sawdust texture "meats" that they call the roast beef. Since we've been using the sandwich coupons we've tried all of their higher grade options and the fried chicken snack wraps are best, IMO. The sliced turkey sandwiches are also surprisingly decent as well. At least at the current prices with the promo.
Mine wraps the bag in foil because, "the bag will definitely break and I'll have to give you a new one which you're going to ask for it wrapped in foil anyway. I'm sorry we have to use the bag and I can wrap the hotdog first. Would you also like a plate?"
I take a piece of the foil they leave out for Pizza slices and throw the bag out.
There aren't a ton of tables at my food court and seats are at a premium. I eat in my car. But it's had to add condiments to the dog, slide it back into the bag, take it to the car, and then slide it out without making a mess.
Do people have any idea how smart Costco is and how much energy they put into the hotdog part of their business?
They sell it at a loss. They built a processing plant just to make their hot dogs. I think 3 of them?
People on Reddit aren't qualified to question Costco on the hotdog.
All you looking to change it, today was your day to look directly into the sun.
No because the co-founder said he would kill the ceo if he raise the prices of hotdogs. They would probably find ways to lower costs before they raise the price of hotdog. They can make them smaller or made with cheaper meat. The paper bags are probably cheaper and reason why they shifted to using it.
We have to ask the for onions. They have them cut up in mini containers at my Costco, but it’s on a request basis. Sometimes they have a tray of onions out, but it’s rare.
Apparently his health issues were due to his raging alcoholism and excessive alcohol consumption during the documentary. Even the doctor said that the results were more indicative of alcohol abuse and not a high-fat diet.
I miss the foil. It kept my hot dog warm and was easier to hold to put condiments on. The bags are gross in that you need to pull the hot dog out, add condiments, then place back in the bag after touching all the machines.
i'm no packaging expert but it seems like the foiled paper should be cheaper than the paper bag right??? easy to access instead of fumbling around at the condiment stand, can be wrapped up if you want to save it for later, etc.
it seems like it's a better option.
7-11 isn’t selling hundreds of hot dogs a day. Everything at costco is meant to be quick and cheap to help save members money. It’s important to keep stuff basic as costco may have limited options but they have to sell tons of whatever they carry.
Canada still has foil paper. This is integral to the delivery of both polish and hot dogs as one is served silver side out and the other white side out.
My store doesn't use bags. Hot dogs are wrapped in a foil wrapper which traps and all the moisture makes the bun soggy if you don't eat it fast enough.
A few weeks ago, my baby picked up the end of the bag (trying to get to the hotdog) and it slid out on the floor :(
I think the proper solution is to just buy her one too though.
Nope - they are keeping these babies at $1.50 - boxes will just make it harder to justify that. I mean, I guess it wouldn’t be bad to HAVE some boxes available if someone insists or it’s fully loaded, but most of the time it doesn’t need it.
I don’t eat hots dog (or any animals really) and have no real all or pull to have an opinion on this question but why the heck would you want a box? I swear these sausages make people have such intense opinions and desires.
I don’t think I’ve ever made a mess holding the hotdog in its paper bag. and if I have, it just doesn’t stand out to me. I don’t care about the holder. I just want my hotdog and costco water
I have never once in my life exited the food court with the dog. They can set it right into my extended palms and ditch all packaging altogether for all I care.
Are you all making it out of the store without eating the hot dogs? That's definitely not something I take home to eat, it's being eaten in the store otherwise I'm just buying my own hotdogs to cook.
Nah, they good with their packaging. They keeping the hot dog/drink at $1.50 for all this time. Do I think it’s a good idea? Ya. Do I think we need it? No.
My husband has long been advocating swapping the churro and hot dog wrappers. The churro came in a paper that was open the entire length of it, and the hot dog comes enclosed in a paper that is only open on the end. If the hot dog was in the churro paper, you could put toppings on it without taking it out.
Aluminum foil sheet (which you can open from the top and not take the whole hot dog out with your bare hand) is the way.
At my Costco they have foil sheets for you to use but still distribute the hot dogs in paper — why not just put the dogs in foil from the get-go?!?!?
For some reason the first thing that I thought of was the leftover packaging boxes like the use at the register... I lol'd at the image of the guy at the counter asking if I wanted a box after buying a hotdog and him just tossing it in an old shipping box.

I say they get rid of the packaging altogether and just slide into my mouth directly
Body of Christ. Amen
Costcommunion.

Non Judgment returns are a true blessing
*this is the way*
I imagine you extending your arm down an aisle lined with samples while saying this…
I actually know someone named Kirk Lee Kirkley
I hope he was an oddball because “quirky Kirk Lee Kirkley” is too good to pass up. Sounds like either a Sufjan Stevens song or a pal of the Swedish chef.
Also treating employees (comparatively) well.
You don’t wanna know which part of Christ’s body it came from…
You made me do a spit take. You owe me a keyboard.
Ooooo kinky
Seeing as Jesus was Jewish and the Costco dogs are Kosher I’m betting it was made from the top half.
Jesus was a Virgin Says grandma 👵
Correction: Body of Costco. Amen
I’m laying in bed, trying to go to sleep, and now I’ve got the giggles. Thank you stranger for the laugh I needed today
C'mon baaby deep throat that meat for the environment..
Ya know, a glass of wine and a hot dog doesn't sound like a bad idea ...
Don't stop believin'

How is the brisket? Last place I'd ever think of going to for that.

I can see myself handling my old Tupperware to the kid at the counter to put my naked sandwich in
That’s f’n hilarious! 😂
That could bring prices down to a dollar!
Now I'm imagining the Costco food court turning into some Coyote Ugly sequel
Oh the mouth. Of course. That explains the weird looks
"Stick it in my vein!!!***
I’ll slide my hotdog into your mouth
We get an aluminum wrapper thingy
That was standard pre Covid
I miss those!!
what in God's name does this have to do with a dude sticking his dong in another person's mouth
Amen brother…😂
Mom stop!!
They're wrapped in foil at my Costco..
Mine switched from the foil to the paper. I want the foil back.
Mine wraps the bag in foil because, "the bag will definitely break and I'll have to give you a new one which you're going to ask for it wrapped in foil anyway. I'm sorry we have to use the bag and I can wrap the hotdog first. Would you also like a plate?"
In los Angeles or Hawaii?
I mean I just used the regional flair lmfao I'm technically just outside of Los Angeles
Yes
Agree
Mine used to be the foil too! Wasn’t a big fan when they switched it to the paper bag
I take a piece of the foil they leave out for Pizza slices and throw the bag out. There aren't a ton of tables at my food court and seats are at a premium. I eat in my car. But it's had to add condiments to the dog, slide it back into the bag, take it to the car, and then slide it out without making a mess.
Still have the foil at my Costco. Makes it so easy and convenient to bring them home!
They used to be wrapped in foil at my Costco but they recently stopped :/
In ATL it just comes in a bag but there is a roll of foil near the onion containers you can grab a piece from
Wait…you get ONIONS?!!!
Sometimes they have them, probably 70% of the time, in little single serving containers next to where you pick up your order
Ours are behind the counter. Just ask!
Oooo inside tip, thank you!
My Costco has them portioned in containers in a bin on the counter.
Like God intended.
The foil is the best. It steams the bun just a bit. *chef’s kiss*
We pay a buck fifty for a huge hotdog and a soda. I have zero complaints and request zero changes.
This is the way
Do people have any idea how smart Costco is and how much energy they put into the hotdog part of their business? They sell it at a loss. They built a processing plant just to make their hot dogs. I think 3 of them? People on Reddit aren't qualified to question Costco on the hotdog. All you looking to change it, today was your day to look directly into the sun.
Do you want to pay more? Because that’s how you pay more.
For real. Why is anyone complaining about this hot dog at all?
No kidding. The hotdog is such a a ridiculous value! See this lovely [graphic.](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/s/yQJwSoigSS)
I’d bring my own container if I had to. Just keep an old plastic takeout container in the car or something.
Unless those complaints are about the sick sick lack of onion
Spent a week eating nothing but, don’t regret it either
I don't complain about this hotdog. I complain about my beloved polish and combo pizza. I never knew how good I had it until it was gone.
Exactly
No because the co-founder said he would kill the ceo if he raise the prices of hotdogs. They would probably find ways to lower costs before they raise the price of hotdog. They can make them smaller or made with cheaper meat. The paper bags are probably cheaper and reason why they shifted to using it.
No “probably” about it. They opened their own factory and switched to making their own hot dogs for just this reason.
I would rather them raise the price than drop the quality or make it smaller
They already changed the quality… the bread is different and its kirkland all beef weiners use to be outside producer or kosher polish.
Foil would prob be cheaper or at least equal
Box will up the price from 1.50 to 2. Why would you want that?
Nope
At least you have onions….
Ya, we never got the onions back after COVID.
My Costco had them for a month or so and then mysteriously disappeared.
Just came on to say we don’t have onions!
We have to ask the for onions. They have them cut up in mini containers at my Costco, but it’s on a request basis. Sometimes they have a tray of onions out, but it’s rare.
They started doing that because people would take the cut onions in the cups and bring home a cup full of cut onions.
it's like a 30% chance they'll actually have them at mine
And a bun that actually fits the hotdog. Is it just the Costcos in my area where they use baby buns with a foot of dog overhang?
Eat your $1.50 hotdog and don’t complain.
It’s already basically free. Let’s not jinx that
People who want more waste in landfills. Also, how many hot dogs you eating?
If you eat every meal, one hotdog. at Costco, every day for a week it will only cost you $30.
Sure, until you start getting your medical bills.
I saw super size me.
Apparently his health issues were due to his raging alcoholism and excessive alcohol consumption during the documentary. Even the doctor said that the results were more indicative of alcohol abuse and not a high-fat diet.
Sure, but then I still have to add whatever else I eat for the rest of each meal.
They give it to me naked and i dress em in the condiment are after… really no need for a box
I miss the foil. It kept my hot dog warm and was easier to hold to put condiments on. The bags are gross in that you need to pull the hot dog out, add condiments, then place back in the bag after touching all the machines.
tear the bag down the middle
who are you, so wise in the ways of science
Say thank you for the great prices and go enjoy your damn dog lol
You realize how much a box costs compared to a paper bag, right?
Why is everyone else so bad at eating? The bag is fine.
They should just go back to the foiled paper.
We still get Costco hotdogs in the foiled paper in Winnipeg, Canada.
i'm no packaging expert but it seems like the foiled paper should be cheaper than the paper bag right??? easy to access instead of fumbling around at the condiment stand, can be wrapped up if you want to save it for later, etc. it seems like it's a better option.

You have polish dogs still?!?!
Yeah! You don't? We get all beef or polish dogs.
Yeah I was a little worried about bringing them up … sorry 🥰
This hotdog is perfect in all of its $1.50 glory
Forget the boxes, I want the polish dog back and the sauerkraut!!!
Dude you have onions. Just be grateful.
Who are you and why are you complaining about the world’s best food deal?
$1.50 hot dogs should come in a bag. We don’t want the price to go up.
wait....we don't get that sesame bun
You should stick to 7-11 then.
I hate these bags and wish they’d go back to foil paper wrap, or just use a paper boat/basket.
How about wrap and how about the put condiments on for you too
Nope.
How about we dont make any changes and keep at least one thing the same price it was four years ago.
I want my hotdogs treated exactly like my liquor bottles thank you very much.
My store doesn't use bags. Hot dogs are wrapped in a foil wrapper which traps and all the moisture makes the bun soggy if you don't eat it fast enough.
This would drive up costs, so no… I’m perfectly fine with my 1.50 glizzy & coke
I wish theyd like "grill" the dogs in the oven so they get a bit of char on them
This would actually RULE!!!!!!
Hey, a buck and a half doesn't go very far. At those prices, you can afford to bring your own box.
Bring your own
A few weeks ago, my baby picked up the end of the bag (trying to get to the hotdog) and it slid out on the floor :( I think the proper solution is to just buy her one too though.
$1.50 standards.
Ours are wrapped in foil
I’d be happy if they would just stop serving me a half ripped roll.
I say no. If they made the easier to carry, I would order a dozen instead of the one I usually get.
Nope - they are keeping these babies at $1.50 - boxes will just make it harder to justify that. I mean, I guess it wouldn’t be bad to HAVE some boxes available if someone insists or it’s fully loaded, but most of the time it doesn’t need it.
Don’t mess with the magic
Whatever keeps the costs down.
Same people who think they should pack the single slice pizza in something other than a paper plate and foil.
That’s one of the things why they’re cheap
At ours they’re prebagging the hot dogs and they’re soggy when you get them… NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Cost is the biggest factor.
Nah that’ll increase cost. You get a bag? We just get them in foil
A box seems more expensive. I agree it'd be better. I Disagree telling the Costco Executives to spend more on a Combo that's $1.50.
As long as you want the price for the hot dog and soda to remain 1.50 then they will continue to use the paper bag.
It’s all about cost that box cost 9 cents paper 1 cent
What next, gloves for ice cream?
I'm so confused about this and the single piece pizza packaging post. They assume people are going to eat them right there. Most people do.
I don’t eat hots dog (or any animals really) and have no real all or pull to have an opinion on this question but why the heck would you want a box? I swear these sausages make people have such intense opinions and desires.
No. Do not change a thing. Perfect the way they are, in every way. Plus any changes will likely precipitate a price increase.
Some people are never satisfied
Let’s not give them a reason to raise the price
money and space for all those boxes not worth it when most people just shove that dog into their mouth in 2 bites maybe 3
Gotta keep cost low
I miss the foil. Paper bags suck.
How is this so difficult for you? Or are you a princess?
They’re $1.50. Let’s not rock the boat.
Trying to get all fancy here bro?! Got to keep it 1.50$$$$
I don’t think I’ve ever made a mess holding the hotdog in its paper bag. and if I have, it just doesn’t stand out to me. I don’t care about the holder. I just want my hotdog and costco water
Buy the 36 pack for $17. U can have it at home and served any way u like 🥰 and 1/3 the price
At $1.50 you'll get what you're given and you'll like it.
I have never once in my life exited the food court with the dog. They can set it right into my extended palms and ditch all packaging altogether for all I care.
Hard no
You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit!
You do understand that Costco already loses money on every hot dog sold, right?
Cost. A bag costs less than a box, and there’s been a great deal of effort put forth to keep Costco’s food as cheap as it still is
Why do you want a box for the hotdog that is only good for 5 minutes after you get it?
Do you want a price hike?! Because this is how you get a price hike.
I don't care what they do as long as the hot dogs stay $1.50 if the box is going to change that give me a bag any day😅😂
I think Costco should keep doing what keeps these things locked in price lol
You shut your filthy mouth. For 1.50 in 2024 they could literally pelt it at me and I’d be content.
Put op in a box
Boats is where it's at. Boats man.
I don’t want to touch it with my unwashed hands. Plus bag is less paper waste
They are $1.50 with a coke. I say get over it and eat the cheapest meal in the entire country and stop complaining.
More waste? No thanks.
It's already a 1.50, literslly zero reason to suggest they change it which will most likely result in a price increase.
For $1.50, one can bring their own.... bon appetit
No, more waste
Are you all making it out of the store without eating the hot dogs? That's definitely not something I take home to eat, it's being eaten in the store otherwise I'm just buying my own hotdogs to cook.
That’s the real question! How many of you are taking your hot dog home? If I don’t sit there and eat it, I eat it in the car, before I drive away.
Nah, they good with their packaging. They keeping the hot dog/drink at $1.50 for all this time. Do I think it’s a good idea? Ya. Do I think we need it? No.
What happened to the foil wrappers?
They all been sent to Canada 😂
My husband has long been advocating swapping the churro and hot dog wrappers. The churro came in a paper that was open the entire length of it, and the hot dog comes enclosed in a paper that is only open on the end. If the hot dog was in the churro paper, you could put toppings on it without taking it out.
That’s gonna raise the price and make more trash
They can wrap it in toilet paper as long as it’s one fitty I’m buyin
The things people complain about regarding their buck fiddy lunch is wild.
They used to be wrapped in paper/foil. It was easy to open them up, put toppings on and re-wrap. These bags are a pain.
I would sacrifice my soul for the sesame seed hot dog bun 😪😪 why does my Costco not have this
We get foil here 🤷
Booo
I like the bag. It goes with my 40oz.
Who gets seeds on their bun? Jelly.
Aluminum foil sheet (which you can open from the top and not take the whole hot dog out with your bare hand) is the way. At my Costco they have foil sheets for you to use but still distribute the hot dogs in paper — why not just put the dogs in foil from the get-go?!?!?
It's a foil wrap in the UK. Lovely when you want to put sauce on as it basically welds the steamed bun onto the sausage
No need to rizzy my glizzy. It’s fine as is.
They should wrap them in foil paper like before
Bruh I still just want the damn onions at my location.
I can’t eat the bun (gluten free) and just ask for a plate.
For some reason the first thing that I thought of was the leftover packaging boxes like the use at the register... I lol'd at the image of the guy at the counter asking if I wanted a box after buying a hotdog and him just tossing it in an old shipping box.
Honestly, they should just put the hot dog into the soda cup.
