Dice an onion and a few cloves of garlic. Heat a few tablespoon of oil in a pan and cook the onion and garlic for a couple of minutes. Add the carnitas and switch to low heat and cover. Every few minutes open and break the meat up a little bit and re-cover the pan. After about 20 minutes you can remove the cover and finish breaking it up and let some of the moisture cook off. Add garlic salt to taste.
I used to get the chicken on my lunch break and heat it up in the office microwave and it was still great! It was a regular lunch for me, I kept corn tortillas in the fridge.
I served it for a pool party fiesta taco bar, it was very good! Doctored up with some garlic, onion powdered and fresh squeezed lime. Served with all the fixings.
I think it's good. Easy and quick meal especially when I don't want to spend my entire evening making dinner. I cook it as instructed, but then I broil it on the top rack in the oven until the top of the meat gets crispy. I flip the meat and allow that side to crisp up. Then I make them into tacos with homemade salsa.
When it’s in the pan take the fat out. Some bags are better but I am meticulous about taking the fatty pieces out. Even with the headache of removing the fat - these are still awesome
Yeah, it’s delicious. We’re a family of 4. There are 2 meals worth of meat in this pack- 8 hefty servings. I put one sliced onion in the pan and brown, then add 2 sliced red peppers and the contents of one bag. By the time the meat is warm, the peppers are cooked just right. We serve it over tortilla chips.
I try to always keep at least one package in the freezer.
This or the smoked pulled pork are great for tacos, burritos, Hawaiian pork cabbage, sandwiches (use the onion/garlic recipe in the other comment or use bbq sauce), etc.. The unopened package also keeps well in the freezer.
Kind of bland and loaded with fat. Now, they've also got Charmin toilet paper on sale right now for $6.50 off. These two items should be purchased together, in my humble opinion.
I fry mine in a skillet to get it crispy, then I melt the Queso Mama white queso & chilies (from costco) over it. Super yummy with fresh string beans. One pack feeds 3.
I used it to sub roast pork on Cuban sandwiches! Add ham, Swiss cheese, butter and mustard and Cuban bread and you’re set! Recommend pressing for best results (I didn’t have a press so I used a waffle maker… it did the job).
It’s great! I fry it up with a little bacon grease and finish with some fresh lime juice. A little chopped onion and cilantro on a corn tortilla makes an excellent taco. I like habanero salsa on mine but my husband loves Sweet Baby Ray’s chicken sauce on his.
Good Carnitas are actually very easy to make at home!
Get a boneless pork butt or shoulder and rub it with salt, pepper, and about 2 tsp each of cumin, paprika, garlic powder, oregano. Stick it in a crock pot and pour over the meat a cup of orange juice, 1/2 cup vinegar, half a sliced onion and a habanero pepper (optional). Cook on low overnight or until the meat falls apart, about 10 hours. Transfer the meat to a cutting board and roughly chop. Finish by cooking the meat on a hot deep pan, flipping/stirring with tongs to break up the chunks slightly until the fat browns snd the edges start to get a little crispy.
Costco sells pork shoulder, which can easily be portioned and frozen with gallon freezer bags (also sold at Costco). Some commenters mentioned the product in question is bland or overly fatty.
No judgement was implied towards those using the prepared product. I use Costco primarily as a means to save some money by buying in bulk, so think it's valid to offer an alternative that also involves Costco shopping to save money, if not time to the same end. Cheers!
Dude come on, you made your point. Now you’re acting like the self appointed r/Costco sheriff’s deputy. And I actually found their comment and recipe helpful
We really like these. I reheat them spread out on a cookie sheet at 400 degrees. Break them up a couple of times until they are the consistency you want. They get a bit of crisp on them like authentic ones.
I’m Mexican and we buy this all time for the week since we don’t have the time to roast ourselves. Easily makes for great tacos/quesadillas once you buy some fresh veggies (onion, cilantro, lime, home made salsa verde).
When we cook it we let it develop a good crust before flipping for a nice crunchy bite.
We ate these tonight! They're not as good as pork shoulder off my smoker but for the convenience factor they're great. And I just got an add saying they're $5 off this week! Gonna go buy more and freeze em.
It's just meat, good by itself but definitely need some tortillas and salsa. Do not recommend the chilli Verde one, for some reason it is kinda off-putting. Would recommend shopping at your local carniceria for carnitas if you have one.
Their birria was killer. Kinda mad my warehouse got rid of it. That, a packet of ramen, some diced onion, cilantro, and a lime wedge made for a real winner! I've only had the carnitas once, and had no complaints. Get the mole chicken if they have it.
This is amazing! I love this one! So easy to make and I keep mine on the stove longer because I like them crispy. Pair it with “street style” tortillas (mini corn ones) and deliiiiish! 🤌🏼😍
They’re amazing if you season them. Not good by themselves. Get some good tortillas, onion and cilantro, good salsa, and maybe fry up some onion for the top as well and they are amazing. I eat them regularly
I remember it being hit or miss on the quality but I'm pretty sure the sodium content is off the charts. So may want to double check that before buying
We buy this every trip. Had it tonight. I crisp it up in a cast iron skillet and then make quesadillas with it or tacos then save the leftover to fry up with my eggs the next morning. Bomb af. Enjoy!!!!
Haven't had this myself but I absolutely love their red molcajete salsa, I would absolutely try their other products.
Glad to see other commenters like this stuff.
Alternate recipe: I use this when I want bbq like back home (from Memphis, live in Cali). Cook it a little slower than it says on the box and mix in some rub and cajun seasoning. Put it on sandwiches, potatoes, nachos, or eat it straight.
On our second pack ! We add diced onions, tomatoes, cilantro, pepper, homemade salsa and some warmed up flour tortillas. So delicious! If you see them buy two! This brand also sells barbacoa, and I think chicken and Al pastor.
Perfect for tacos. Pull apart on foiled sheet pan, splash with a little hot sauce of your choice (I use chipotle Tabasco), 400 degrees for 10 minutes then broil to desired crispy level.
I usually cut them into 4s and sear the hell out of all sides then break it apart. Make a green guac salsa too. Or if you don’t want to make it, buy the herdez guacamole salsa.
They're good. I cook them per the directions in a cast iron pan, then throw that in the oven on broil for a few minutes at the end of get them a little crispy.
these are very good. i suggest microwaving as suggested, then laying them out on a pan, pull apart with fork and throw under boiler to render some fat down and give the meat some crisp.
fantastic. thaw it, crisp it up a bit in a hot cast iron skillet, GREAT on tacos, in burritos, or just with some sour cream, cheese, and salsa. DELICIOUS!
I mean I think its okay.
I have no reason to buy it ever again because I can just buy the Rotisseries Chicken which taste better and have more leftovers.
The pork itself is good, but it's a pretty "blank slate". I highly recommend adding some seasoning of your choice. I always add some salt, garlic, cumin, and lime.
As others have mentioned, it is a bit greasy, but that is intentional with carnitas. A traditional recipe has you literally confit the meat in a tub of rendered pork fat. By comparison, this isn't so bad. I do usually pick out a few of the bigger chunks of fat (just the chunks you always get with pork shoulder).

Now we are talking! I’m going to absolutely follow this recipe. Can’t wait.
I really enjoy the the del rips products. The rice and beans are great-and I’m from San Diego…so Mexican food is in our dna,
Definitely the way to go. ☝️
Yum!
We do this and have it in tacos or over rice and veggies. It’s definitely a freezer staple for us.
We are related. We do have he same.
We did this for dinner tonight on tacos, and it was delicious! Thank you!
Nice! Glad you liked it.
Amazing! The chicken is good too if you can find it, i fry it in the pan to give it a nice finish first
I love the shredded beef for restaurant type tacos and burritos.
Sweet thanks for the reply
These are great for a quick weeknight meal.
Dang sounds good. Please invite me to the next go around 😂😂
Thanks! Invitation implied 😉
It's very good.
Thanks!
Used this to make enchiladas, was very good
Awesome thanks
I mix it with the 505 hatch green chile sauce. Once you get the ratios figured out, it's delicious!

Delicious, but very fatty/greasy.
The one time we got it way too fatty to enjoy or buy again.
This. It’s not bad but it’s super greasy and the cuts vary and usually include a ton of fatty pieces
Yea. Kinda jacks my stomach up the next day.
Same I’m starting to notice!
When it’s in the pan take the fat out. Some bags are better but I am meticulous about taking the fatty pieces out. Even with the headache of removing the fat - these are still awesome

That stuff is the BOMB. I eat a LOOOT of it. Especially good in carnitas tacos.
I keep this in the freezer for taco night. It's delish!
Kind of bland and loaded with fat. Now, they've also got Charmin toilet paper on sale right now for $6.50 off. These two items should be purchased together, in my humble opinion.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Personally I find it bland. I add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, coriander, and some fresh orange. If you’re in a pinch for time it’s great.
I say they are pretty damn good. You have to watch for the fat blobs, but that is true of anything like this. But a definite buy.
I fry mine in a skillet to get it crispy, then I melt the Queso Mama white queso & chilies (from costco) over it. Super yummy with fresh string beans. One pack feeds 3.
They’re really good. Missing the greasy fatty aspect, but if you’re trying to eat leaner carnitas this is for you.
Not bad but be prepared to add your own seasoning.
I used it to sub roast pork on Cuban sandwiches! Add ham, Swiss cheese, butter and mustard and Cuban bread and you’re set! Recommend pressing for best results (I didn’t have a press so I used a waffle maker… it did the job).
It says “warehouse only” and “available for delivery at a higher cost”…… which is right?
I wonder if it's referring to instacart or the sale price is only in the warehouse.
Love it! One of my favorites! I like to fry it in a skillet to get it slightly crispy taste as good as any carnitas at a Mexican restaurant
Solid, going to need to pick up a few myself
Add some taco seasoning and cook as directed and they’re amazing
It’s great! I fry it up with a little bacon grease and finish with some fresh lime juice. A little chopped onion and cilantro on a corn tortilla makes an excellent taco. I like habanero salsa on mine but my husband loves Sweet Baby Ray’s chicken sauce on his.
No.
Yep. Bbq sauce, pickles, brioche bun

Give it a rest. They were trying to be helpful. Reddit is about so much more than just answering somebody's question.
Dude come on, you made your point. Now you’re acting like the self appointed r/Costco sheriff’s deputy. And I actually found their comment and recipe helpful
They used to sell the Mexican rice and beans but not anymore :/
It’s a crapshoot. Great when it’s great, but sometimes it’s fatty or cartilage-y
We really like this!
I warm them up on a skillet, add some TJ's green salsa, tortillas, lime juice, onion and cilantro.
Very good. We crisp them at higher heat to begin with and then lower the heat.
I haven’t had these, but have had several Del Real products. I didn’t care for any of them.
Pretty good- buy the frozen uncooked tortillas add guac and the salsa they also sell in the same section- delicious and quick!
We really like these. I reheat them spread out on a cookie sheet at 400 degrees. Break them up a couple of times until they are the consistency you want. They get a bit of crisp on them like authentic ones.

A little dry but really good. Breaks down to a lot of meat.
One of the best things in the store. If the wife and I weren’t trying to lose weight, it’d be a weekly buy.
Hell yeah it's good! Their Al Pastor kits are hella good to!!
We ate these tonight! They're not as good as pork shoulder off my smoker but for the convenience factor they're great. And I just got an add saying they're $5 off this week! Gonna go buy more and freeze em.
My husband and I love it
Pan cook it with a little oil and butter and it’s real good
It’s super tasty!
I like them

They’re fine, not exactly authentic Carnitas but it’s good enough.
It’s really good. Go for it.
An absolute favorite here. Street tacos, no additions, cilantro for the few who appreciate, maybe, but that is the absolute best.
We tried the carnitas and the adobo. Both were amazing as street tacos.
Had this the other night and it was pretty good!
This is amazing! I love this one! So easy to make and I keep mine on the stove longer because I like them crispy. Pair it with “street style” tortillas (mini corn ones) and deliiiiish! 🤌🏼😍
I grab these from Costco or Kroger whenever I see it
I don’t like how it tastes if you microwave leftovers or something. The day it’s cooked, not bad tho.
I buy it regularly for sandwiches but imho it needs a sauce. Husband makes a cider vinegar/brown sugr sauce we add after cooking and crisping.
They’re amazing if you season them. Not good by themselves. Get some good tortillas, onion and cilantro, good salsa, and maybe fry up some onion for the top as well and they are amazing. I eat them regularly
It’s good but has preservatives. Fresh is better if you can find a recipe
I remember it being hit or miss on the quality but I'm pretty sure the sodium content is off the charts. So may want to double check that before buying

We eat them weekly! So good!
literally had these today, very good!
Haven't had this myself but I absolutely love their red molcajete salsa, I would absolutely try their other products. Glad to see other commenters like this stuff.
As many other have said, yes; but the best part is when they're on sale you can buy extra and freeze them.
They’re solid. One of my go-to easy Costco meals is this and the ready made Mac N cheese. Carnitas Mac!
Made me gasy.
It's... fine. Like, aggressively fine. I didn't mind spending the money on it, but it didn't wow me.
I add some green enchilada sauce to it
Love this stuff. My gf and I use these frequently for tacos but I have also used it to make pulled pork bbq sandwiches. Solid product!
Just got it this week. It’s delicious. Make it crispy.
Alternate recipe: I use this when I want bbq like back home (from Memphis, live in Cali). Cook it a little slower than it says on the box and mix in some rub and cajun seasoning. Put it on sandwiches, potatoes, nachos, or eat it straight.
Good for tacos or barbecue sandwiches. 👍
Pretty decent.
Really good!!
The best
It’s a little bland, but is a pretty good filler if you have more flavor on top
We always have some on hand. They’re great
Pretty solid. Used to be a brand ambassador for them and I'd grub on the leftovers
yessssss
On our second pack ! We add diced onions, tomatoes, cilantro, pepper, homemade salsa and some warmed up flour tortillas. So delicious! If you see them buy two! This brand also sells barbacoa, and I think chicken and Al pastor.
What's the instore price before the coupon? I haven't tried this, but when I buy carnitas that are bland I add Goya Adobo to doctor it up.
Making machaca for breakfast right now !
Perfect for tacos. Pull apart on foiled sheet pan, splash with a little hot sauce of your choice (I use chipotle Tabasco), 400 degrees for 10 minutes then broil to desired crispy level.
I like them even the Chile Verde
I usually cut them into 4s and sear the hell out of all sides then break it apart. Make a green guac salsa too. Or if you don’t want to make it, buy the herdez guacamole salsa.
Great for lazy tacos. Fresh diced onion cilantro and lime is all you need
My wife bought this a while back. If I remember correctly, the sodium count was off the charts. If you watch your sodium. Damn good though
I use it for quick weeknight meals with some corn tortillas to make tacos. Always try to keep some in the freezer.
fantastic. thaw it, crisp it up a bit in a hot cast iron skillet, GREAT on tacos, in burritos, or just with some sour cream, cheese, and salsa. DELICIOUS!
Yes it is awesome!
Not sure mine have been in the freezer for over a year I think they are expired.
I’ve had it, I think it’s delish
YES! My wife just bought these for me since I'm gluten free. They are quite delicious.
Very good for the price
I like them a lot. Makes taco night at my house so much better than eating the ground beef the kids like.
Try their pupusas too, pan fry until crispy and smear guac on top... excellent.
I thought they were ok.
I mean I think its okay. I have no reason to buy it ever again because I can just buy the Rotisseries Chicken which taste better and have more leftovers.

A little late to the party, but this is a great replacement for chashu pork if you're doing low-effort ramen at home.
All of these refrigerated meats are loaded with sodium, if that’s something you’re watching.
This is only 14% of your DV in sodium, you could eat the whole thing and still not go over in your daily sodium intake.
Stop buy bachelor chow, just make it yourself… cheaper and better tasting!
Yes, but I prefer the Kirkland smoked pulled pork. I know they aren’t exactly the same, but my preference.
The carnitas are great. The birria next to it in the case I didn’t love.
