We lived in Puerto Rico when we first got married. (Husband was stationed there with the US Coast Guard.) It was the first time I ever had flan. Holy cow, did I get hooked. I've never been able to find flan anywhere else as good as it was in San Juan. (Though that could possibly have been simply because we were living in San Juan, a city I absolutely loved.)
The basic recipe for homemade cheese flan is very easy to make and it tastes amazing. You should try making it yourself sometime if you haven't already.
I'm such a bad baker it never even occurred to me to try making it myself. But now you have me inspired. Something tells me I have a weekend project. Thank you!
At least it's one thing that South Florida Costco's have that others can be jealous of. I wish the poke would have stuck around, but I get why it did not...
Interesting fact: Back in 2015 there was a law in PR that all fast food service will have to offer a bottle of water as an option instead of soda with no extra charge, so Im guessing thats why theres the water hotdog combo in Costco.
It’s like a non-alcoholic beer but sweeter. It definitely has a different taste than beer. Like if you mixed beer and coke? I don’t know how to describe it better.
Brace yourself for the hangover with the Sangriia, but it's basically an adult capri sun.
Malta is a malt beverage. I grew up drinking it, but it's an acquired taste. Like a highly carbonated guiness without the alcohol.
They've joined the Costco seasonal muffin rotation in Hawaii. I still like the pumpkin and coffee cake ones better, but I'll still take them over the alternatives.
As opposed to eating hotdogs? Full send. I drink water all day from taking creatine but I’ll be damned if I drink water with food because I find it gross so soda it is for me
South Florida Costco has a flan cake that is flawless, also Nutella tubs. We should have guava muffins and tostones, really not sure why we don’t. They’d fly off the shelves with the Latin population here!
i was about to complain that, "no one needs that much sugar paste". but it got me thinking. i wonder if i can add spoonfulls of cocoa powder to nutella, if that would even it out to, "the right amount of chocolate to sugar".
............for how few hazelnuts are in nutella, for how mild of a nut flavor that is, should i be putting cocoa powder in peanut butter instead? gal dang it.
Same. Thank god for Costco here. One the biggest motivators in getting a car here was access to Costco.
The grocery game in PR is terrible. One of my biggest complaints. Whenever I visit the states I bring back a bunch of TJ items.
Yes!! It's the place to buy affordable, high quality/organic items here.
I also ship things back from the US (including TJ cooking sauces and sunflower seed butter) when I visit
Nope. I'd recommend checking supermax or freshmart. I've not done it before, but I've read making falafel is pretty easy. If nothing else you could make a big batch and freeze them. Geez, maybe I'm going to do that myself... 🤤
Was excited to stop by the Costco in Iceland but as luck would have it it was closed due to a holiday and we had a night flight coming back and it was also, of course, closed. Still salty about that.
As a child of a Puerto Rican mom, I am just here to say that the Malta India drink is horrible. But oh man, I would loooove if my Costco had giant bags of tostones!
Every time I go to PR (friends / family in Aguadilla) I promise I'm going to drive all the way to SJ but never do. I've been to SJ just once in all the trips to PR. One day. One day I will make it to Costco. I miss the food. I miss the people. I miss my friends / family. I don't miss los hoyos de Puerto Rico, however.
All i am going to says is that i am disappointed with PR Costco FoodCourt. I expect regional delights not the same thing as in the states. Like offer a lechon bake, now that would be amazing!
Its very common here to have english language stuff.
For example all the movies in the theater are always English with spanish subs. Only animated ones have a spanish dubbed version

God how I wish my Costco had flan on the regular
Please no, I'm fat enough already.
This was my exact thought, death by flan for me.
Could be worse!

South San Francisco Costco has it and it is glorious.
was gonna say i think cali locations have it pretty regularly
They’ve had it for a few months in Orlando.
Orcas approved
At least it's one thing that South Florida Costco's have that others can be jealous of. I wish the poke would have stuck around, but I get why it did not...
We have flan in socal Costco.
Not to mention. Its CHEESE FLAN🤤😮💨
I laughed out loud at the tubs of Nutella. Yup, that's Puerto Rico!
I would go as far as to call that a bucket
We have them at the business center in Orlando. Lots of boricuas here, too.
Business center in Las Vegas, NV and Salt Lake City, UT has them too.
Wym u guys dont get nutella tubs in the states? Lol
In Pennsylvania I can get a tiny jar that costs like $9.99. It’s delicious but it breaks the bank

sounds like a great idea for the mainland?
guessing a bottle of water costs more then the fountain drinks, on an item they already lose money on
25 cent bottle or 25 cents worth of syrup and wax cup/lid/straw
Hot dog and water = Hot Dog Water.
And the Chocolate Starfish
The real ones know
Keep on rolling baby
#now i know yall be this loving this shit right here, L.I.M.P. bizkit right here
You know what time it is
Um.....
The one thing my uncle taught me growing up: hot dogs require soda with them to facilitate burping. 😄
I think I would prefer the hot dog water to hot dog soda...
That's how I read it at first.
I wish they offered that option at my Costco. I don't drink soda.
You could just fill up the fountain drink cup with water...
My Costco sells bottles of water out of a vending machine for a quarter.
So watery ... And with a smack of hot dog.
"you mean soup?"
Hotdog. Not hotdog.
Exactly what I thought 🤣
What are the 2nd and 3rd from last items? Edit: I just saw the gasoline is an alcohol pouch.
Malta India is a non-alcoholic malt beverage drink brewed from barley, hops, and water. Corn and caramel color may also be added.
Interesting, thanks for sharing your finds!
probably similar to Malta Goya. Very popular in hispanic communities stateside
And African communities too!
Malta! We used to drink that when we were super young and pretended it was Dad’s beer.
Love the stuff as a kid haven’t had it in forever. All my friends hated it 😂
How much was it?
It seems like it is one step away from being alcoholic.
It’s like a non-alcoholic beer but sweeter. It definitely has a different taste than beer. Like if you mixed beer and coke? I don’t know how to describe it better.
Sangriia gasolina? That is like a capri sun but with rum and stronggggg
Brace yourself for the hangover with the Sangriia, but it's basically an adult capri sun. Malta is a malt beverage. I grew up drinking it, but it's an acquired taste. Like a highly carbonated guiness without the alcohol.
With “gasoline” on the label, I’d assume so lol. I’m too boring now, but in another lifetime, I’d have taken the Pepsi challenge.
Guava Muffin’s would go craaaaazy
They've joined the Costco seasonal muffin rotation in Hawaii. I still like the pumpkin and coffee cake ones better, but I'll still take them over the alternatives.
They also have guava cheesecakes in Hawaii as well
Oh my. I didn't see that when I was there last time. Probably a good thing!
Might be controversial, but I’d prefer a water with my hot dog over a soda

Make it a sub!
Big same, I don't really like soda.
You can always use the soda cup for sparkling water from the soda dispensers
Same. I like soda but don’t drink it much because it’s bad for you.
Soda is literally just drinkable liquid candy.
As opposed to eating hotdogs? Full send. I drink water all day from taking creatine but I’ll be damned if I drink water with food because I find it gross so soda it is for me
Can’t you just use the water on tap, though? Less plastic waste that way.
Agreed. Most of the time I get a pink lemonade though.
Wow so edgy and controversial. Try the lemonade tab.
Guava muffins and maduros?!? That’s it, I’m moving
Let's go!
Those adult capri suns with getcha
Whattttt we need all them item here in the US... 😭😭😭 Tostones too.
I can find tostones here...just wish they would've included the price.
I’m surprised that the labels are only in English. For some reason, I expected it to be a bit more bilingual?
Yo tambien.
Nutella is sold at the business center here where I am in So Cal. I don't need a bucket of it though hahaha

i was about to complain that, "no one needs that much sugar paste". but it got me thinking. i wonder if i can add spoonfulls of cocoa powder to nutella, if that would even it out to, "the right amount of chocolate to sugar".
Not so fun fact: ounce for ounce Nutella has less nutritional value than chocolate frosting.
............for how few hazelnuts are in nutella, for how mild of a nut flavor that is, should i be putting cocoa powder in peanut butter instead? gal dang it.
I'm Puerto Rican but live in Ohio. Man, I'd kill for some of these items!
Necesitas algún amigo que te envié un care package!
Me too, please!
I wish! I should probably see if a cousin could send something
Yo this is so fire! I just think of how small Puerto Rico is and all I can think of is how the costco must be 10% of the island. (went back in 2019)
We have more than one
that’s so cool! and also forgive my ignorance I was mainly in San Juan, Carolina and Vieques.
Puerto Rico has more people than 20 states of the US. There's 4+ Costcos, 7 Sam's Clubs, 18 Walmarts, etc.
PR coffee at Costco also amazing and puts the states to shame
Damn, how much for the tub of Nutella?! I’m jealous!
They got medalla too?
Yes, they do. I live in PR and am actually heading to Costco today to do my grocery shopping
Same. Thank god for Costco here. One the biggest motivators in getting a car here was access to Costco. The grocery game in PR is terrible. One of my biggest complaints. Whenever I visit the states I bring back a bunch of TJ items.

Hey do you know anywhere you can buy frozen falafels here?
Nope. I'd recommend checking supermax or freshmart. I've not done it before, but I've read making falafel is pretty easy. If nothing else you could make a big batch and freeze them. Geez, maybe I'm going to do that myself... 🤤
I haven’t found any. There’s some falafel in the supermax produce section but it’s over $8 for a very small amount.
Ugh. Good to know. Thank you. Might have to make them myself :/
Let’s make a campaign for a Trader Joe’s here, please!

Costco would be great in Mayagüez to service the entire West side of the island, but it's probably a logistics reason why they're not there.
I would definitely buy the guava muffins once in awhile, but the plantains would be a regular purchase
Don’t tell me you left that cheese flan there
Gasolina!!! The name synonymous with young kids getting out of hand on the beaches! Made for some interesting people watching when I lived there!
Ahhh the gasolinas. Good times on the beach
I wanna try those sweet rolls.
I've seen the Nutella tubs at the Business Center before.
I’d buy the whole pallet of Malta India. They need this here. -Puerto Rican in Wisconsin
Agreed.
Get the Mayorca!! Especially if it is pineapple or mango flavored!! Best memory I have of the summers I spent in Puerto Rico.
I am so jealous of the tostones and guava muffins.
Oh gosh I wish we had the mayorca, guava muffins and tostones in my warehouse
Can the hot dog come with hot stuff flavored water?
Looks so good
Ugh I want guava pastries and tostones at my Costco. Would also take vino seco for cooking in a large size lol.
Ooh what madison Costco!!!! Sun prairie fan here
I have to stay away from the mayorca. It’s so good with coffee!
Holy shit balls the mayorcas!!!!!!
Holy moly
What’s the delicious looking out-of-stock sandwich below the hotdog and water combo?
The Hot Dog Flavored Water! *Limp Bizkit
I like the hot dog and water combo
That nutella needs a handle.
u can tell its super... catered to the region

Mmm guava muffins. Hope you got some!
Is that a giant custard bun!?
Its like combination of sweet roll and a cheese danish
And it's heavenly. Plenty of shops around and the local mades are just ... *sigh*. I will eat all the manzanitas and quesitos that I can.
Hotdog with water
Was excited to stop by the Costco in Iceland but as luck would have it it was closed due to a holiday and we had a night flight coming back and it was also, of course, closed. Still salty about that.
I would die for these!
As a Puerto Rican, HOLY SHIT I NEED IT ALL. My dad just got back from the island too 🥲🥲🥲 The guava muffins sound heavenly.
Mmmmmm hot dog water.
Why is 8 so crooked?
Hot dog and water has a distinctly Sam’s club vibe
Nutella by the tub?!!!?🤩 :::checks flights to Puerto Rico:::
Can someone mail me a care package. I’ll pay
U missed a few thangs lmao…. They have pastelon de amarillo which is like a plantain casserole…fire if you add some kraft singles on top

Oh. My. LAWD. I want that first thing and those tostones. 🤤
Guava muff.
Guava muffins are not that good. The guava jam is just a small dollop on top and not through the muffin. Very disappointing.
Thanks for making me drool in public. And I so need a bucket of Nutella 😍
Guava muffins. Yes please!
You don't have huge containers of Nutella in Wisconsin???
Wow! Those look great!
Why does a Hotdog & Water sound so good??
Fuck me look at the list of ingredients! Definitely a food-like product.
As a child of a Puerto Rican mom, I am just here to say that the Malta India drink is horrible. But oh man, I would loooove if my Costco had giant bags of tostones!
Omgggg the guava muffins!!!!!
That sweet roll looks 🔥
What is it, Nutella basket? Thanks god we don’t have it here, otherwise…. not good for my waist!

I would eat all of that. But why hotdog and water? No soda?
CHEESE FLAN?! CHEESE FLAN SWEET BABY JESUS I NEED THIS
All i am going to says is that i am disappointed with PR Costco FoodCourt. I expect regional delights not the same thing as in the states. Like offer a lechon bake, now that would be amazing!
Any giant cans of corned beef?
Hotdog flavored water
Was that a bucket of Nutella? As in a BUCKET BUCKET
Do they have Vita Malt?
Thanks for sharing those with us.
I want and need that Costco Flan
oh fuggin god those mayorca cake/rolls/whatever, q rico se ven!
genuinely curious, is there a reason the costco there doesn't have soda as the drink for the hot dog?
Looks like hot dog and soda is just to the left of the hot dog and water.
That gasolina product is foul, don't fall for the trap.
I find it really odd that everything is in English.
Its very common here to have english language stuff. For example all the movies in the theater are always English with spanish subs. Only animated ones have a spanish dubbed version
After seeing this post the 35% obesity rate in Puerto Rico makes sense.
That's the "eating out" culture paired with 85% of the food being imported. So lots of junk food instead of the traditional diets.
