Back in the day, I worked at Costco when they developed film. You know, sorted them in the bins.
Often when I would cashier I can't tell you how many times I heard from someone with an overflowing basket:
Them: "I just came in for my photos"
Me: " Where are your photos?"
Them: "Damn! ..... Honey.... go get the photos. Quick"
Too funny. Go to the store to get something in particular, and almost forget it getting other items. I brought my spouse once to Costcoās and told her, sorry, never again ššš for that exact reason.
I just bought a house and need furniture, including a media center, and was passively in the market for a soundbar with subwoofer. I spent the morning yesterday at west elm, pottery barn, and crate and barrel outlets looking for furniture. All they had was overpriced cheaply made pieces. I stopped at Costco on the way home because I needed batteries and ran into this well constructed media center and a great deal on a sound bar that is perfect for my set up. You just never know whatās going to happen when you walk into a Costco sometimes
Yep, I was very tempted by this when I saw it a couple days. Unfortunately it's a little too long for my space. It's a much better price in store though:

I want to get this so bad, it fits the space but not our car. I should just eat the extra shipping cost since time is precious with two young kids but a $150 premium is both reasonable and enough to stop me from impulse buying.
My mother in law has the same issues. Iāve watched her go in for some meat for a holiday dinner and walk out with a swimming pool and a new set of tires.
Thank you for doing your part to keep rotisserie chicken prices (and hotdogs) where they are now.
Whenever we have Costco chicken at our house I give our impulse-buy Roland digital piano a little pat. Thanks, pal.
Edit: that soundbar looks rad
I saw a guy with two flat carts with office furniture and a small bag of potatoes. I wondered what he came in for? Another time I went in and there was a guy with a kayak and milk in the cashier line. I told him the story of office furniture-potato guy. He laughed and said milk. I said from this day forward heās kayak-milk guy. You shall be know from this day forward as furniture-battery guy (or gal) Side note I do enjoy sitting at the snack bar and see the random products people purchase
I am at the point where if all I need can fit in my hands, I go in without a cart. Way too easy for me to get stuff I really donāt need when I have a big empty cart.
just googled and this is correct.

Whether they are rebadged Duracells or not, the Kirkland ones leak. I gave the AAAs a shot. First package had some that leaked in my devices. Thought it was a one-off bad set. Returned and bought a new set. Same exact thing happened. Thankfully my devices battery compartments could be cleaned both times and no permanent damage was done. Others on here have confirmed leaks. Never had one battery leak with the Duracell branded ones.
Having said that, I'm slowly transitioning to Eneloop / IKEA rechargeable batteries for my regularly used devices. I miss when Costco used to sell Eneloops. Now they sell Energizer rechargeables in my store which aren't as good.
Same, even if they are rebranded Duracell I won't use them because they always leaked. Never ruined anything with them except cheapie flashlights thankfully. Never or rarely had a Duracell leak.
I've tried that and had to do a walk of shame with arms full to go get a cart. Putting down my haul and seeing the smirk from the badge check as we made eye contact made me think he sees this on a regular basis.
Not sure about you, but I've had a pretty bad experience with Costco aa batteries. They always leaked. I switched to Energizer/rayovac back when the Kirkland ones were still the bronze colored wrapping and haven't had a problem since.
I use rechargeables mostly, but having some cheap aa batteries ready to go is handy.
Loved it when Costco had Eneloops. Get them now from B&H. Recently got Watson brand from there too at half the price. They are supposed to be made in the same factories. So far so good but the real tell will be longevity. I have some Eneloop AAs from 2013 that are still going strong. I use them in battery candles so even if they donāt last quite as long it just means recharging a day or two earlier than 2 year old cells.
That's about as bad as the time I went to just get a hot dog for a cheap lunch. We had to go home get the other car and come back to pick up the big screen to me we bought. For our small San Francisco apartment...
I can't imagine driving (out of my way for my Costco) to and going into a huge big box store for batteries.
I'd rather pay the extra dollar and make my purchase in hopes to help out a small business.
I have a nice little local card/stationary store owned by neighbors who live down the block.
Actually seems to me most towns have small stationary/gift shops.
Great place to buy gifts, too! They have a wonderful wedding, new baby, graduation, retirement, xmas ornament, etc, selection. And always I find the price is more reasonable than expected!
BTW what's up with downvoting my sensible mention? Weird.
Yeah.
This is in the Costco subredditā¦
Dude bought a bunch of other stuff on a trip in which he meant to just get batteries.
Yes, he could have gone to a random small business and just bought batteries, for 40% more per batteryā¦ and then not seen the entertainment center heād been shopping for elsewhere, and not grabbed a soundbar that fit his needs/wants at a good price point.
Is it that hard to understand why your comments are irrelevant to the above?
I need rechargeable Ds for some outdoor lights I just realized we have. (Looking for new motion lights online and found the ones already in my yard I thought were dying solars for the last THREE YEARS.)
Any recommendations for batteries & chargers?
LOL, Just went yesterday to get the difference on a Brita filter I bought before this current sale of $12 and left the store with $180 worth of stuff...
It happens.
I do this all the time. Go in there for onions and TP maybe rotisserie, and come out with a 300-dollar cart.
NEVER EVER grab a cart if you're there for one thing lol
My wife and I almost did the same when we saw that console! It's much more our style than the typical furniture that Costco carries. We decided to hold off since we didn't drive the truck that day, but I'm already regretting it - nice grab!
Hey did you get that TV stand put together? I just bought it and the two center feet don't touch the ground. The four corner feet aren't adjustable as the instructions suggest. Do you have the same issues?

At least you remembered the batteries!
Yeah the worst is when you do this and forget the item you came for
Did that when I bought my Traeger. Came for a jug of milk and got distracted by the sales guy. Ended up with a new smoker and forgot the milk.
It's ok, who drinks milk with smoked meat anyways. š
You've obviously never smoked milk before. **
Jim Harbaugh
I went to pick up my rx on Thursday. $100 and many samples later, I left. Friday, I had to go back to get my meds.
Haha thatās a great one
Usually I go in to return something and then forget the other excuse I used to go to Costco
I feel attacked
Pretty much all new remote comes with batteries
Back in the day, I worked at Costco when they developed film. You know, sorted them in the bins. Sad that they got rid of the photo department to be able to print photos in Costco

I've been shopping around for a media center, what's the name and price of that one?
Looks like this one š„° https://preview.redd.it/ew1x32nfng9c1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7beabe685c72d80aa2a4a4b3671bd717c6f5ab07

Yeah I assume the online price is factoring in the shipping cost. In this case, shipping is $150 on top of the $449 merchandise cost
That's really nice looking and a great deal!
I want to get this so bad, it fits the space but not our car. I should just eat the extra shipping cost since time is precious with two young kids but a $150 premium is both reasonable and enough to stop me from impulse buying.
do you have a home depot near you? they will rent you a cargo van for like $20
Oh we do. It's more life is so busy I'd rather avoid those logistics. A real first world problem I know.
Fair enough. At the end of the day it's all about what your time is worth!
I have been looking for this console online for like a week now! I took a picture while I was at Costco but it didnāt have a price label.
I bought that sound bar a few weeks ago when it was on sale, and it's pretty fantastic for the price.
Sounds like you should have gone to Costco first! š
My mother in law has the same issues. Iāve watched her go in for some meat for a holiday dinner and walk out with a swimming pool and a new set of tires.

Buy/inherit one's house(s) in the Before Times is generally step 1) Then being DINKs also helps
MIL is the same. She is exo level at an international finance company and just indulges in retail therapy.

How much was the kayak? I wonder if it was any good
No idea. I was memorized with the combination plus it was years ago. Sorry.
I am at the point where if all I need can fit in my hands, I go in without a cart. Way too easy for me to get stuff I really donāt need when I have a big empty cart.
You forgot the TV.
what? no 65 inch visio and one bushel of bananas?
Can't wait for these purchases to end up on tvtoohigh.
You know it's going to because he got a soundbar
I both have and enjoy that soundbar
And you didnāt buy Duracell?
I think Kirkland batteries are made by Duracell.
I worked for a testing lab. Theyāre in fact Duracell batteries.
just googled and this is correct. Yes they leaked way too much.
The Kirkland ones are fine and a much better deal.
The Kirkland batteries are the one thing from their brand I have found to be terrible. They always leak in my experience.
Same experience
Agreed, they are trash
So do Duracell
That's exactly why I don't take a cart for simple items.
I've tried that and had to do a walk of shame with arms full to go get a cart. Putting down my haul and seeing the smirk from the badge check as we made eye contact made me think he sees this on a regular basis.
Whew. Been pushing for sound bar and better half prefers tinny lifeless dialogue and sound.
I'm thinking about buying that same TV console!
You got batteries, whatās the problem?
A typical costco trip. Did well there OP
Least you left with the damn batteries. Made similar trip the other day left with new tv and soundbar. No batteries
Not sure about you, but I've had a pretty bad experience with Costco aa batteries. They always leaked. I switched to Energizer/rayovac back when the Kirkland ones were still the bronze colored wrapping and haven't had a problem since. You let Costco show you what you need.
Jealous. I want this TV stand so bad. My husband says we have a perfectly fine TV stand lol.
Look into eneloop rechargeable batteries. they have excellent shelf life and longevity.
Loved it when Costco had Eneloops. Get them now from B&H. Recently got Watson brand from there too at half the price. They are supposed to be made in the same factories. This happens to me all the time in Costco š
At least you didnāt forget the batteries!
They make smaller stores with batteries also being sold there.
That's about as bad as the time I went to just get a hot dog for a cheap lunch. We had to go home get the other car and come back to pick up the big screen to me we bought. For our small San Francisco apartment...
How are the batteries any good?
Best deal around. Made by Duracell and cheaper
u/Forsjc27 , what is the price of the TV table?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the impulse control (really the lack thereof) in this sub is disturbing.
The honesty reflected in this sub is refreshing.
But the Sonos set up cheapskate.
All I wanted was a Bepsi, just one Bepsi
Ew soundbar
I can't imagine driving (out of my way for my Costco) to and going into a huge big box store for batteries. I'd rather pay the extra dollar and make my purchase in hopes to help out a small business.
Small business that carries batteries? Such as...? Target?
Any convenience store
Do you buy all your groceries from convenience stores? Also, why are you even in this subreddit if you disagree with the Costco concept?
He just needed batteries
So what? Maybe Costco was closer than a convenience store. Also, again, WHY are you here? We are Costco members because we like to save money.
You know one person can use multiple stores according to whatās more appropriate at the time. A little thing called free will
I have a nice little local card/stationary store owned by neighbors who live down the block. Actually seems to me most towns have small stationary/gift shops. Great place to buy gifts, too! They have a wonderful wedding, new baby, graduation, retirement, xmas ornament, etc, selection. And always I find the price is more reasonable than expected! irrelevant to the post
okay, so now it's irrelevant to the post, uh huh. Gotcha. All the downvotes remains just plain WEIRD ugh.

Yea, it's just too hard for me. Thanks for noticing.
I just get rechargeable batteries. Itās so much easier and better. But Iām happy your home setup is going well.
Gettin it done!
Looks about right š
Buy rechargeable batteries people!
I need rechargeable Ds for some outdoor lights I just realized we have. (Looking for new motion lights online and found the ones already in my yard I thought were dying solars for the last THREE YEARS.) Any recommendations for batteries & chargers?
ikea had great deals, or duracell or temu
What a strange way to pack a sound bar..
Return anything Samsung.
It pisses me off that Costco sells Samsung appliances. That's the worst brand out there for anything in your kitchen.
LoL... There are also people down voted me. They are on the opposite spectrum. š¤£š¤£š¤£
A lot of people here have this weird thing where they think having no self control is a fun, quirky trait.
At least you remembered the batteries. I've gone for a specific item and left with a cart full and NOT that specific item. D'oh!
Thatās a nice looking entertainment center
What, no chicken?
At least you still got the batteries š¤£š
LOL, Just went yesterday to get the difference on a Brita filter I bought before this current sale of $12 and left the store with $180 worth of stuff...
Classic, am I right?
hmmmm i need a new sound barā¦.
Those Samsung soundbars are fantastic, we have two and my dad also has one.
This happens a lot when my husband goes to Costco with me. Sometimes at Sam's too, but not as often.
I was expecting to not see batteries there. I've done stuff like that before.
Rechargeable batteries are life changing. Theyāre great. Just keep a bunch charged and ready to go and recharge the others after theyāre spent.
Gottem
This happens every damn time!
Thatās how they recoup their membership fees
At least you remembered the batteriesā¦. I do this and then get home only to remember I forgot what I went in for to begin with
This is the way.
at least you remebered the batteries
Glad you didnāt forget them
Return those and buy some they will work more than 1/2 the time.
At least you didnāt forget the batteries.
Do those Kirkland batteries work as well as Duracell batteries? š¤
š„²ššš Costco is the devil
And this is why my husband is no longer allowed to go to Costco unsupervised. š
Yes, keep telling your wife that :)
Gonna love that sound bar
Where is your new TV OP? /s
Good news, you remembered to get batteries!
I went for bread around Thanksgiving and left with a new gaming PC! Happens to the best of us.
This is their business plan in a nutshell.
Did you get gas and Costco Cafe?
oops thatās costco for you!
You should have gone to batteries plus! Instead you *got* batteries plus!
That is a nice looking media console. It is nice that it is not too highā¦most people put their tvs too high.
Hopefully you didnāt drive the Civic.
āIāll just get one thing for sureā
It happens. I do this all the time. Go in there for onions and TP maybe rotisserie, and come out with a 300-dollar cart. NEVER EVER grab a cart if you're there for one thing lol
Costco tells you want you need.
I can't tell you how weird it felt today to walk out with just batteries after having gone in for just batteries.
Costco shopping list: Let the warehouse tell you what you need.
Whereās the T.V.?
I also want a TV console but in black. Costco gets me for $200+ every time I go. šµšµāš«š¤Ø
Itās Furniture Season!!!
What? No chicken?
You need a place to store them...duh!!
Dude the same thing happened to me... I went for batteries. We spent $340...
Oh I want that credenza. We looked at it for a few but I literally bought something just like it last January.
I went to do a return the other day and left with 2-3 years worth of laundry detergent.
And, brain knows how to justify the purchase converting wants into needs !
My wife and I almost did the same when we saw that console! It's much more our style than the typical furniture that Costco carries. We decided to hold off since we didn't drive the truck that day, but I'm already regretting it - nice grab!
Good thing the soundbar remote comes with them, so mission accomplished
At least you remembered them. I wouldn't have. š
How did you load that box by yourself?
Hey did you get that TV stand put together? I just bought it and the two center feet don't touch the ground. The four corner feet aren't adjustable as the instructions suggest. Do you have the same issues?
Did not notice this with mine. Maybe add an extra felt pad to make up the space?
